We are a locally owned community driven gym specializing in personal training and small group classes as well as being a supportive facility for those in the music industry based on owner Lya Wodraska's experience in that field.
Our trainers are adept in physical rehabilitation, training athletes for specific sports and guiding those who want to have a healthier lifestyle. We have open access options daily from 5 a.m.- 9 p.m., so you can work out on your own time too and daily drop in rates for guests. (After 5 p.m. non-members should contact us first via phone or text for access.) We also have massage therapists and Reiki practitioners on hand. Whether you are resident of SLC or visiting in an official capacity, we can help you!

It’s embarrassing and intimidating to walk into a gym after being inactive for almost 20 years of your life. But Lya and my trainer Joshua have been so welcoming and accommodating. Backline has been absolutely wonderful and I’m genuinely excited about my fitness journey.

Love The Backline. Its the perfect amount of busy. There's usually a couple friendly people in the gym doing their thing but its rarely ever crowded. I've never had to wait for a machine or a dumbbell. They have all of the fun workout machines and gadgets so you can get creative with your workouts! They also have free apples and bananas if you need a little pre-workout snack which is so nice.

It is the perfect community gym. Backline has great trainers (shoutout to Monica!) and a wide array of classes all in a super convenient location. It is especially great if you live in the Liberty Wells area but parking is easy and plentiful if you come from further away.

Awesome community gym. I really like everyone there and my trainer Monica has really helped me with basic life mobility and feeling better day to day. Also everything is clean, they have really big bathrooms, and plenty of parking.

This is the best gym. I love the circuit class with Lya and the kettlebell class with Justin. It has an incredible community and the trainers are amazing. I wish I could take the spin class with Bobbie! (Stupid work). This gym will make your life better in more ways than one.

This is the best gym!! Equipment is new and very well maintained. Management is friendly and accommodating. And all the trainers are more than willing to help you understand an exercise or spot your heavy bench press.
Trainers are, i guess, independent contractors so they’re paid directly by you, that’s not part of your membership. I have hired a trainer through this gym and have seen incredible gains in my overall strength since joining in late September. Not to brag but my butt and thighs are getting WAY bigger and I’m in need of bigger underwear because of it.
So, join this gym. Find a trainer you like. Do the work. Be prepared to buy new clothes.

I love the Backline! The space is clean, organized, and offers a wide range of equipment. Lya’s 9 am circuit class is so much fun and she carefully chooses effective workouts that strengthen the full body. Bobbie’s Cycle and Core class is fun and challenging and helps build strength and endurance. I couldn’t recommend the Backline more!

I’m 77 years old and concerned about maintaining bone density. After several months of working with Lya, I’m walking better, I have better balance and I can lift heavy weights I only dreamed of doing before. It is amazing the flexibility I’ve developed getting up and down, leaning over to pick things up, and the shear upper body strength I have now. Lya’s knowledge is impressive and her encouragement and kindness help me get through the more difficult challenges. She’s remarkable!

I was in town for an athletic competition and needed a place for a little maintenance. The Backline was simple to drop into, do my thing, and break from. I was worried about the size of the space but there's all the necessary equipment without being cramped like some corporate gym. Would get a pump there again.

If I could create my perfect gym, it would look A LOT like Backline. This place has all my favorite equipment, especially the functional stuff I just can't find at most gyms. I love the community too. It actually feels like a community. Everyone has been friendly and polite. It's worth driving a little farther to come to Backline.

Lya Wodraska has opened a gem of a personal training/ workout studio. I love my workouts on Wednesday’s. Back Line has everything I need for a good cardio and strength workout, and is located in a beautiful building on 800 So. 200 E. Check it out!

Best gym ever!!!!! My husband and I have been going to Lya for over 10 years ,two times a week and I have to say it’s very very seldom that we have ever done any exercise twice. Lya a treasure chest of knowledge . How are you She has helped us both with her dynamic exercises to reach our mid 70s with tremendous strength and abilities to still enjoy all of our very active lives. We cannot recommend this gym more. Now that she has a gym to call her own. She is flourishing to great heights, creating an environment that is unlike anything else. It is the best, the friendliest the most welcoming and fun place to be. We look forward to every workout 💜

I stumbled across this gym on Google whilst looking for a quiet gym to use during my time working over here in SLC (from Australia).
I was welcomed in and made to feel at home straight away by Lya, and all of her clients whilst I used their space. She knows her stuff and is obviously very experienced.

I was in from out of town on business and wanted to get some barbell work in. This is a great tiny gym with all new equipment that has everything you need. It was a little challenging to get a hold on the phone and the door to the building was locked (after 5pm) when I arrived, but luckily Lya called me back and I got a great workout in. I was the only person working out for most of my session. Lya the owner was super nice and if I'm ever back in SLC I'll go there again. If you live close I'd highly suggest checking out a membership, especially if you're into barbells, dumbbells and functional work.

Backline SLC is an absolutely awesome fitness center. The owner is one of the city's best personal trainers (Lya Wodraska) and she has assembled a good group of trainers, yoga instructors, etc. The gym itself is beautiful, with new equipment and floor to ceiling windows. And it is in a great location with ample free parking. Five stars!

I can't say enough good things about this new gym. While the gym is new, the trainers have collective years of experience. The vibe is very open & inviting with huge windows on nearly every wall. I took advantage of a free 1hr circuit workout class (led by Lya Wodraska, the owner) followed by a free 1hr stretching class (led by Jode Page) and enjoyed them both. I've also had a massage from therapist, Cassandra Francis, and got some kinks worked out.
