Fraudulent charges and no customer service! It’s a piece of cake to sign up for a membership but impossible to cancel. After I spent months of being charged for a membership I requested to cancel I finally showed up in person to end the bullshit. 3 months after I cancelled I was charged two fees randomly that I did not authorize and were not in the contract. I called and called and called the club at all hours of the day during and outside of business hours. No one ever picked up the phone and there was no option to leave a voicemail. I tried every possible way of contacting them online and through their app but I kept being brought back to the same useless phone number and ignored. I sent an email and received an automated reply telling me to call that same useless number! I will now be forced to block them, cancel my debit card and report fraud to my bank. Unbelievable. Unacceptable. Unlawful.

The kids at the front desk never greeted me at entry or said farewell at exit
There’s a lot of important equipment missing
It gets super cramped in there QUICKLY
Bathroom remained clean

My mother in law came with me this evening for a quick cardio, unfortunately due to user error she took a fall on the treadmill… thank god she’s okay however I want to thank the assistant manager Phoenix for all of her help this evening the ice packs planet fitness had were not getting cold, she went out of her way and went to the dollar general down the lot and bought her a bag of frozen veggies, when I offered payment she responded “please, making people happy and feel better is my job, it’s no biggie” well ma’am it’s a biggie to me, your kindness really showed that there are still wonderful people in this world, phoenix even accompanied my mother in law in the spa while I finished my cardio, if anyone from corporate comes across this please don’t let her kindness go unnoticed!
And Phoenix, thank you for being a good human, and thank your team as well, you were all absolutely amazing.

The best thing about this place is that it's 24 hours. It has been very crowded lately. There seem to be some broken machines that have out of service tags for a while, at least the machines i frequent, such as a leg press & rowers. Sometimes, we have to wait for equipment or just skip the machine totally because you see people just sitting on their phones. The spa is nice, there is never a wait, the staff is nice and there's always someone behind the desk.

If you want a cheap place to work out and are flexible for time, it's probably going to be OK for you. Likewise, if you want to use treadmill or cardio, not too bad.
For strength work, it's very crowded and inefficient. Key machines are always in use and there's almost no space to stretch or do floor work. There are 2 stations for pull-ups, one you can't do real pull-ups because you hit your head on the ceiling, see the cracked tile, the other is so low, even with bent legs, they hit the floor. There is a "yellow room" for circuit training that is always empty and wasted space. Similarly, there are lots of machines in the back room that never get used. Young people there come in groups and monopolize equipment for long periods. Probably half of the users wipe down equipment.
Quite disappointing and it wouldn't take much to make it a very good gym. You can look at Crunch Fitness in S.Burl as an example of how an inexpensive gym could be set up to accommodate cardio and strength activities.

My wife holds the black card - she never goes due to a new permanent injury. They let me in for months. Now I'm turned away so basically no one uses it. My wife is going to cancel- I'm expecting the worst, I hope not. I will update. Why does everything have to be do difficult?

Tried to cancel my membership this past January. An employee told me I could work out until the end of the month. Then afterwords my membership would be terminated. Recently I noticed in my online banking that it was actually never canceled. Pretty frustrated with myself for noticing sooner. Regardless I still feel completely let down by the staff.
Today I talked with the Club Manager, Mike. Hoping there was some sort of evidence that I had attempted to cancel my membership. Maybe security footage of me filling out my cancelation form at the front desk. I came in expecting the worst, and I wasn't surprised that there was nothing he could do. I was surprised how unprofessional he was with me.
Not once said he was sorry, and that he wished he could help me. He even raised his voice towards me aggressively stating, "its your responsibility to make sure your membership is active or not." I understand how contracts work, and I had no problem with him saying that.
I really wished he could articulate that in a relatively nice, and calm way. It was etremely awkward, and I felt uncomfortable as he quickly escalated. I didn't expect a refund or anything, but I do expect to be treated with kindness and respect by a club manager. You guys can keep my money, but I will never say anything good about this planet fitness and it's management.

6:00 am on a weekday and the place was quite empty. It was super easy to put my stuff in a locker, do the 30 minute circuit to work off last night's tacos and beer, and then head back to the showers. Everything worked the way it should - a changing stall, hot water under pressure and enough room to clean and shave properly.
Maybe not the greatest Planet Fitness, but still good.

-however the fact the owner opts out of allowing family sharing plans is super frustrating. Other plant fitnesses allow black card gusts to access the gym without the main account holder. It’s greedy that you can’t do that here. My husband and I have been playing for memberships for YEARS and go to the gym multiple times a week. I should be aloud to go in without him if he’s busy. I wanted to go today but theirs no way I’ll pay $22 for a day pass???? Previously I’ve brought someone on a white card membership and they had to pay $10. How is it now double that?

Worst Gym in the World. You couldn't pay me Enough to go to this Gym at any of their locations. I have never gone to a gym and witnessed as much disrespect towards Woman and children of members than I have with these facilities. The threats that they make towards members and their guests are absolutely unacceptable and Totally unimaginable and shouldn't be happening anywhere. And by looking at other reviews, I'm not the only one that has gotten treated this way... These Facilities Need to be shut down immediately and refund everyone everything they ever spent at these facilities and a formal apology would be a great place to start... I am a Black Card Member just for the tanning bed use. So My review is based solely on that. PF being as big of a company as it is I was expecting better tanning results. I think new bulbs are a good idea. I have a home tanning bed unfortunately due to moving it is in storage. My older home tanning bed is amazing because I have top of the line bulbs even though there's only 16 total still works better!

A couple around my age spoke to the young staff member before me and left.
I thought it was kind of unfriendly there.
I went in to ask about insurance because I'm on an advantage plan and have gym memberships included.
They abruptly said that they don't take those. That they were a franchise not a corporate gym. It used to be that planet fitness was $10 a month.
I actually asked how many people they could handle at one time they said 240. There are Maybe 8 when I was there.All young
I don't know what it is now because they never gave me a clue. You never gave me any information to take with me and never gave me any options didn't give me a tour. Nothing. I didn't even get to speak to the trainer who was spoke to the other couple.

This is a GREAT Planet Fitness! I joined the Planet in March of 2022 at the South Burlington location. After moving to Essex, this location was more convenient. Staff at the desk is accommodating and if supplies are needed, they quickly will refill. The ladies restroom and the area overall is always very clean. Members do sanitize the equipment after use. The parking lot got repaved last year and it's in a very convenient location. I use the massage chairs and they are clean and comfortable. Nice range of newer cardio and weight equipment. Watch the times as busiest, of course, is during the week between 3-6:30 p.m. Hats off to the management of this Planet and their staff.

I signed up for a Planet fitness membership in December. I canceled it within the first month, because I was no longer going to be living in the area. To my surprise, when I called to cancel my membership I was treated with absolute disrespect by the manager Mike. I went in completely uncomfortable and canceled my membership on December 23rd. Once you cancel a membership especially in person you assume you won’t be charged again right? Wrong. I have been changed 6 times since, 3 in January and 3 in February from this establishment.
25$ charges to 53$ charges you name it I was getting it taken out of my hard earned money almost every week.
Simply confused, I call again to explain this is unacceptable. This time, a woman who would not tell me her name, tells me she is a manager and they do not see any charges on their end. She then says I have to bring proof to their location in order for them to believe what I am saying. Ok…. Because 234$ later I would love to be refunded and have this company do the right thing as a first time customer of theirs I would have never expected what was to come next,
The girl with no name then proceeds to call me back 10 minutes later saying no, it’s not enough to bring in proof of them charging my bank account months after canceling my membership. Because they will not be “giving me anything”. Very taken aback, I ask why? And can I speak to her manager or someone higher up than her? She proceeds to interrupt me and say “I’m not sure why you’re still talking, I told you you’re not getting anything from us so everything you are saying is irrelevant and wrong we have not charged you so therefore we won’t be refunding you anything.” And hangs up the phone on me. I have never dealt with such terrible service or been spoken to in that way by anyone who calls themself a manager. At a loss, I decide to go the corporate route and stop contacting this branch.
Then Mike calls me, and proceeds to yell at me on the phone, stating if I continue to ask for my money back and harass his employees he will call the police on me.
All because you guys can’t give people the money you are wrongfully taking from them back? Sounds like this is something that occurs more than it should and they have a whole process to continue to steal our money.
What a way to treat your customers!! Totally unnecessary and sad I will be reaching out to corporate and getting my money as well as making formal complaints on the both of them!

They are the most vile, petty, impatient and disrespectful humans in customer service I have ever met in my life I will most likely be creating Gmail accounts just so I can bring their score down to zero. From the new guy to the manager and most likely the owner if you could ever reach them. They won’t listen to your requests for a manager and they play games (you can hear them in the background) saying they’re not there when they’re clearly heard audibly saying so, like a little kid. Im a young woman btw. I come here maybe once or twice a month. No biggie. I have the black membership card. Yesterday it was insanely cold out so I decided to sign in and wait in a massage chair in the black club member area.
Okay when I first came in the guy at the front desk flashed an angry face as me (glasses and bowl cut). Not sure why. Don't recognize him, and I don't look homeless or anything. I sign in, go sit, and like 20 min he comes to me in a high pitched condescending tone asking if im waiting on someone. I told him I was waiting on the bus. Nevertheless I pay $25/month and only come like once a month. It's not like I'm an ongoing problem here.
It was just uncomfortable because I felt watched and criticized. I wasn't bothering anyone, nobody could see me except the camera. Nobody else was back there. Is it that atrocious that I went in to wait for the bus for a couple minutes? If it was an hour I'd understand, I don't know it was just weird. I felt judged since I walked in the door. I've never caused any issues so idk why they were watching me like that.

If you use your membership you'll get the benefit, if you don't you won't simple as that. Good machines decent dumbbell selection, only goes up to 75lbers but it does the trick and the place is pretty clean and not too busy.

I am trying to get in touch with the owners or somebody, anybody who can help me resolve an issue, but that seems to be more difficult than contacting the president. My daughter had her membership cancelled today by one the managers after I asked him his name and/or the name of the owners. He literally hung up on me. I hope they record the calls as well as have video surveillance of the club. I am blown away at how this person treated me on the phone, and how he treated my daughter. If this were my franchise, I'd certainly want to know how my employees were treating customers and potential customers. My daughter has had her membership for about a week, I'll be expecting an apology, an explanation and a reinstatement of her membership or a complete refund without any cancellation fees, otherwise this seems very much like a form of a scam.

I only give 2 stars bc the equipment is pretty decent as well as the selection of machines, however, as a brand new member, that stepped FOOT into this chain for the first time EVER, the older man at the counter was so rude and very blunt. If there was a zero star option I would pick that. This PF is one of the rudest and most disrespectful places in Essex. My husband had a black card membership that let's me go with him occasionally. Due to the covid restrictions they told him that I could not go in, which is perfectly understandable,however, we were waiting to figure out a new plan in the lobby for maybe 5 minutes when the front desk guy came over and rudely told us to leave. He assumed that we were going to argue. When in reality we were walking out the front door right as he made that comment. To that affect all of the employees look very unwilling to help and do not give off a constructive attitude.

My wife and I have had a nice experience to this point - we are new members. We have been members in the past, prior to the Covid outbreak.
We had read some of the reviews, many negative of recent - this placed us in pause, but then we signed up, deciding to have our own experience.
We have yet to have a negative experience.
Allow me to share... we are aware there can be employees (at all establishments) that are not providing quality customer care - this is an issue in present times...
Lets put things into perspective though...
For what you pay, this is an amazing deal.
We found the Gyms cleanliness to be good overall - yes, more dusting on the equipment would be a positive - just a bit more attention to cleaning would be appreciated - I like a really clean house.
Employees have been friendly enough.
Keep this in mind... Employees, at times, are treated harshly by members (this too is an issue in present times) I was at the front counter for several minutes, and in that time, 2 members displayed what I found to be entitled/ill behaviors toward the women working there - now think about how many of these encounters they deal with in a day.
I am not dismissing the feelings of those who left negative reviews - just offering another viewpoint.

I have a bigger chest (which is COMPLETELY out of my control) and I wore a popular lululemon tank top (that I see many others wearing) to the gym. I was stopped at the front and told by an older employee (who was a WOMAN) that I needed a T-shirt because I was “showing excessive cleavage.” Mind you, the only thing you could see was that my chest was large because the tank top was slim fitting. Everything that needed to be covered was covered. She told me I was lucky that it was the holidays or I wouldn’t be able to work out in my outfit. Also mentioned that she “wished she had a chest like mine but it is just too excessive to be wearing a tight shirt.” I go over to the ab machine and there is a woman next to me wearing the exact same shirt… I just find it funny how PF is advertised as “no judgement” yet if you don’t fit a certain body type you are in fact judged very harshly. I understand not wanting women in sports bras walking around (actually I don’t but for the sake of this review I guess I understand a little bit) but I was covered and following the dress code. Kind of ridiculous in my opinion.

This Planet Fitness has one of the rudest manager you would see. Tone and attitude toward customer was very unprofessional. Have been there to workout and was unable to allow a 17 years old to workout by himself (As a guest), asked me to leave immediately, and also threatened me that they would call the cops if I don’t. They assumed that I would not leave, when I am about the grab my item. The manager in the front also canceled the membership without my permission, he just took the pen and sign it himself. He also tries to retaliate by threatening me second time, that he was going to call the cops ( I have recorded his behavior and discrimination towards me, and was very unacceptable. In Vermont, it is legal to record as a first party.). I ask him multiple time if I can contact someone to make a complaint and he acts like he owns the place ( that I can’t make a complaint). Many people are starting to get surprised on how their service, have declined during these years. The place was rundown, bathroom was very unsanitary (Have seen hair stuck to the drain and was never cleaned for entire week), and as you would’ve imagined, it may have been caused by bad management. I used to come to the Planet fitness when I was younger, when it was located down maple street. Even then I was allowed inside alone working out, after my parents left. The ratings have decreased and have seen people disappointed of the new manager. There is a lot of improvement your gym should make to increase the customer satisfaction. Should be grateful that I didn’t post any attached picture here.

I've been PF member for past 8years. I met so many managers , so many different staff members, but I must admit, current manager at Essex PF is by far the worst. This location is only few years old and already trashed and worn down. Restrooms are as filthy as it can get, always missing toilet papers, showers so dirty, you got to be afraid if getting some bacteria/virus in there. Equipment constantly broken and out of service...list can go on and on. I tried sharing my concerns with manager few times, each time I get 'I don't care - this is what you get for your money' attitude. Very rude, unprofessional manager that made many good staff members quit as they told me and I quote ' I have to quit as he doesn't care about us or anything.'
I travel a lot. VT PF locations were one of the cleanest in NE, now cause of the Essex PF, are one of the filthiest.
Very disappointed member.

The belts on most of the treadmills are dangerously loose, its like running on ice. Careful which one you choose, this is a lawsuit waiting to happen.

This Planet Fitness, like the one in South Burlington, is not run professionally and communication is poor. I've filed a complaint against both gyms (both owned by the same person) with the Attorney General of Vermont. Staff and managers are incapable of enforcing their own rules and agreements with customers.

After months of working out, deadlifting and wearing comfortable clothing, I was informed that crop tops were not allowed, and then the next day in the middle of a set I was told that deadlifts were not allowed. This was news to me, since for the last 10 months I have been using progressive overload deadlifts. If you want to support fitness goals, you have to support all goals, not just people who fit your ideals. Power lifting isn’t the enemy, but shaming people for their choice in clothing and workouts isn’t conducive to positive body image and return clientele.

Speaking with one of the staff members at planet fitness was a horrible experience. I was literally cut off and spoken to with unnecessary attitude all because I was trying to explain my conversation with another staff person about canceling service. I was very polite, and he was not professional at all. Maybe they figure since you’re canceling anyway that they can take out their aggression on you. You get what you pay for with this place. I will certainly never go there again.
Kindness is a must on both ends of the conversation. I sincerely hope that this person at planet fitness in Essex Junction realizes that speaking that way to people and cutting them off is not nice and one of the first things you learn in preschool. Spread the love.♥️

I went in to cancel my membership as the pandemic has afforded my the opportunity to aquire enough of my own exercise equipment. Staff was very helpful and understanding, and not pushy at all. I appreciated that greatly, so thank you. Though I should also mention how I did miss the old location where the cardio equipment was separate from weights area. The new Essex location layout kinda feels like the weights equipment is on display to everyone on cardio equipment

Very embarrassing gym to go to. They shame people by taking legal action, and stop their "valued customers" from coming to the gym ever again, all because of their PERSONAL views, (not business views) on wearing shorts that are "too short" when they cover everything needed. They also have had employees blatantly steal from peoples lockers, and say they're "checking their bags as a routine bag check" as an excuse. This place needs to be shut down, IMMEDIETLY! Planet Fitness froze all accounts at the beginning of the pandemic. It is fair to think that they would contact their customers when the gym was re-opening. I called today and apparently they have been open for a month and so now they are going to charge me for a month when I had no idea they were open. I asked the associate why I never received an email that they were back open, because if i had, i would have cancelled my membership.
EDIT: planet fitness responded about the annual fee, my review is not about the annual fee, it's about the monthly fee.

Left my stuff in the locker room like EVERYONE else and got my stuff taken hidden behind the front desk. Front desk worker claims he’s been checking the locker room constantly for stuff but, when I checked there was plenty of other belongings that weren’t taken to the front desk. Me and friends got our names written down and I don’t see how this is fair compared to the other gym workers.
