We have been dancing here since pre-Covid years. There was always a stressful and negative feeling when we entered the door that we couldn’t understand. The front desk people don’t greet you and don’t say goodbye either, especially the director: Jessica, like you don’t exist. When you ask them something they make you feel small and unappreciated, like you’re not enough. Although you’re there to learn and dance to have fun, these are not important for this studio. It fails to make family, to make dancers feel good about themselves and happy to dance. This AAD dance school tries to present itself as a serious and prosperous, professional studio. Unfortunately it’s far from it. The dancers who go there almost every day don’t prosper and don’t get good placements at competitions. At least they matter somewhat for the management, because they are part of the studio’s dance companies and pay big bucks for it. Those who are recreational dancers don’t matter to the management and the front desk people; recreational dancers are treated as outsiders and they don’t learn much in the weekly classes. The recreational students were even left out of the recital program book, publishing only the “company “ kids with photos. The two owners are nice people and dancers (although some actual awards would have been great for graduates and 10, 15 years of dancing there) just made bad choices with employees. In ballet being in Ms Alexandra’s class is a torture of boredom and unprofessionalism; the classes and teaching are unorganized, childish in addition to lack of basic communication skills. Unfortunately she multiples the front desk people’s lack of communication skills, poor interpersonal skills, intentionally mean-spirited behavior when interacting with students or their parents. Overall the studio is sliding down after about 24 years of operation.

I wish there could be two opportunities for review. First, the studio and instructors are incredible. No question. However, the front office (AKA Jessica) is the absolute Best person to have any interaction with people. The prevalence of her extreme supportive and helpful behavior is certifiably fantastic. She sometimes puts on the charm (when parents are present) but... treats the kids like they are valued individuals, each an all-star, with a bright future ahead of them! It is a fortunate thing that such young, impressionable people are exposed to a personality like hers. They understand that she supports and cares about each of them. And this helps build their confidence.
I can absolutely guarantee if the owners would conduct an anonymous survey of the kids, parents, and, yes, instructors, the results would be in accordance with my review. I am just glad my kids are being exposed to such a positive person. :)
Thank you AAD. Your academy has done wonders for my daughter's self confidence. And big thank you to Jessica for your tireless (okay... they probably are tiring :D) efforts and constant positivity and love you pour into your work.

I have been taking adult dance classes at AAD since they first started the adult program back in 2018/2019. I think it is a wonderful studio with a family-like atmosphere. Many of the studios in the area have grown quite large and you can feel quite lost in a sea of people. AAD is the perfect size studio and has an amazing faculty and staff. Jose Soto is a phenomenal instructor! He really prepares the students for today's dance world and performing both on stage and for a camera. I couldn't ask for a better place to foster my love of dance!

This studio has been such a great find for our little dancer and we couldn’t be more pleased. Like any business, everything starts from the moment we step into the building. We are always greeted and our little dancer looks forward to her front desk hugs before classes start.
Each instructor is absolutely amazing. The owners and company directors are exquisite. Since our dancer started here, they have given her a confidence that she didn’t even know she had…all while providing her with a safe space to explore what she loves.
The teacher’s assistants are the sweetest. Always greeting and hugging all the itty bitty dancers in the lobby never gets old to see. They have been and continue to be outstanding role models to our younger dancers.
Speaking of dancers, the dancers of all levels (from littles to adults) at this studio are extremely kind, sweet, and supportive of each other. And with kind dancers comes kind parents, giving this studio a beautifully close team environment.
The studio’s organization and communication are also great, which makes preparation for performance and performance time an enjoyable experience.
We couldn’t be happier with this studio as a whole. Within our past few years here, our girl has already grown so much as a dancer and as a person. Thank you, AAD <3 We are so grateful and look forward to having our little continue her dance journey with you.

My daughter has been dancing at this studio since she was 7 and it's a fantastic group. They offer various types of dance which provides a well-rounded experience for any dancer and encourage high school dancers to participate as Teacher Assistants giving them leadership opportunities outside of school. My daughter has grown the most with Mr. Jose in Broadway Dance. He pushes the kids to go a little further each time and excel to be the dancer they really are.
Front of house/Admin is handled by Jessica who has really had an amazing impact on the studio with further growth. Just being a studio is one thing but Jessica offers an educational perspective from her own professional experience which shows. The kids and staff LOVE HER! When my daughter is having an off day she knows she can get encouragement from Miss Jessica.

Ashburn Academy of Dance is such a special place!! All three of our girls dance here and it is their happy place. We tried another studio when we first moved to the area about 6 years ago and were so disappointed, not only in the lack of quality but more so, in the lack of care for the younger girls.
While AAD is a dance studio first, what makes it truly unique is the community within it. The teachers are so committed to not only making young dancers but also connecting with the girls, no matter their age or skill-level. This is especially true with my oldest who before starting at AAD dealt with a lot of anxiety and confidence issues. Over the last few years I have watched her confidence soar and her love of dance and the people who instill that in her (the teachers, the TAs, the administration) are all to thank for that. It is such a positive and loving environment where the older girls and younger girls interact on a regular basis and greet each other with hugs upon seeing each other. The older girls are tremendous role models for the younger girls.
The administration - Jessica, Amanda and Keisha, know every child by name. They all are current or former educators and their love and respect for the kids is apparent. On top of creating a nurturing and loving environment for the kids, they also stay on top of everything from communications to fundraisers and organizing volunteers.
My husband and I are so grateful to the owners, Katie and Anne Marie for providing a such a special place for our girls. Having your kids find their passion and confidence is cool to witness, but watching the community within that place cheer them on every step of the way is that much better!

We absolutely love AAD! Finding a studio that values technique and has amazing staff has been a gift. My daughter has made the absolute best of friends at AAD. As a parent, it was important for me to find a studio that keeps company/competition costumes age appropriate, and AAD does that.

Ashburn Academy of Dance is an amazing studio. This is not a"dance mom" studio. The studio has created an atmosphere of acceptance and excellence for who ever walks through their doors.
From the beginner tiny tots to adult students who find a artistic release in a weekly class all are welcome. This studio strives to create dancers who love the art of dance and teach the fundamentals and essentials to be a safe and creative dancer.
The classes are varying everyday except Fridays and Sunday. There is competition teams, pre-professional ballet classes, tap, lyrical, acro, contemporary, hip hop and Broadway classes.
The dancers shine each year for Nutcracker, Spring recital, opportunities to perform in a spring ballet and a fundraising gala for their program called Darby's Dancers
What makes this school a stand out is the employees, teachers and owners. Everyone knows the students names. They will engage with these kids about everything not just dance. Most of the students take multiple classes and parents have to drag them away from the studio at the end of the class.
The level this studio gives back to the community is amazing. One of the ways they do this is with a program called Darby's Dancers. They are the only studio in Loudoun County that has the nationwide program that allows children ages 5 and up to experience the joy of performing. They meet the partipants where they are and let them flourish as any other student would in the studio.
Would not go to any other studio in LoCo ( and we drive 20 mins each for every class)

We started at AAD when my daughter was 4. After a lot of research and trials at other studios, we took a chance and registered for preschool ballet in 2018. We are part of the studio classes and my daughter is also a member of the Ballet Theater of Ashburn (2nd year) and the Edge Company (1st year). She is in her 6th year of dance and my son is in his 2nd year of hip hop. The directors, teachers and staff are top notch. Their classes are taught by experienced adult teachers and they have teenage TAs who are amazing. Not only do my children learn from amazing teachers, they have made lifelong friendships. As a parent, I also found a wonderful Dance Village. My village keeps an eye on my kids when I can’t, has an extra rubber band or snack and can carpool in a pinch. I trust the staff (especially Jessica and Amanda) will keep my children safe if I’m running late or if I have to drop off early. The lobby is lively with parents who have formed friendships (but you can still sit there and get work done if needed). You can watch the classes on the TVs and sometimes get invited in at the end of a class to watch. The dance studios and lobby are clean. They support the community and Darby’s Dancers. They put on beautiful performances of The Nutcracker each year and the June recitals show off all of their hard work from the year. Their calendar is set early so I can plan out the family schedule for the school year. They launched an app this year which helps me report absences and schedule makeups easily. My kids love taking class and we love watching them grow as dancers and kids. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

My daughter has been dancing with Ashburn Academy of Dance since the age of 2. Now 8 years later she is more in love with dance, her dance teachers, the operating team, TAs, and fellow dancers then ever before. My daughter has tried every form of dance available and been cheered on by the entire team of AAD.
In choosing a studio I knew we wanted one where the focus was not only on technique but most importantly creating a full dancer and human. The studios focus on body positivity, learning technique and not just dancing to compete were positive qualities. Most importantly the art of giving back to your community. Watching the dancers support programs like Darbys Dancers or collecting costumes to donate to other dancers in need are just some of the ways you can see the community focus.
Each staff member is positive and uplifting with the dancers. This every can be felt and seen in the lobby, in class, and on stage.

I wish there could be two opportunities for review. First, the studio and instructors are incredible. No question. However, the front office (AKA Jessica) is the absolute worst person to have any interaction with people. The prevalence of her extreme passive-aggressive behavior is certifiable. She sometimes puts on the charm (when parents are presence) but treats the kids like $):\. It is a shame that such young, impressionable people must be exposed to a personality like hers. They don't understand that she is the problem and not them.
I can absolutely guarantee if the owners would conduct an anonymous survey of the kids, parents, and, yes, instructors, the results would be in accordance with my review. I have heard from several instructors of their dismay with dealing with Jessica. So sad. I am just glad my kids are no longer being exposed to such a toxic person.

This is absolutely one of the best dance studios I have enrolled my daughter in. They provide structure and guidance for students of every skill level. The inclusive environment is one that makes me and my family feel welcomed and part of their dance family. They are aware of the fact that all their dancers have varying cultural and ethnic backgrounds and strive to make everyone feel included. The staff is open to questions and suggestions and I feel like this is the perfect studio for my daughter to grow in.

My 8 year old daughter started this fall at AAD and she loves it. She went to a dance studio in Tyson before AAD and didn't get much out of it because there was no structure and the kids really just played during class. We love AAD much better because of the teachers and their passion. The teachers focus on discipline while kepting it exciting and fun for the kids. The teachers at this academy has sparked my daughter's passion for dance and singing from the very first lesson.

My daughter has been dancing with AAD since preschool, they have become family! My daughter looks forward to dancing with her peers and adores her Dance instructors. Even the adult classes are welcoming, definitely not intimidating and meant for all levels. From the moment you walk through the door, you know you are the right spot.

My daughter has been dancing at AAD for 6 years and we have loved every minute of it! When it was time to “graduate” to a big girl studio after many happy years doing baby ballet, I researched several local dance studios. What I loved so much about AAD is their commitment to not only developing her technique and performance as a dancer, but also building great character. AAD promotes and participates in many fantastic organizations like Darby’s Dancers, Traveling Tutus, and Dance Hope Cure.
My daughter is beginning her third year with the studio’s competition team and it’s been such a wonderful experience. The mandatory ballet classes have given her a strong technique foundation that she has expanded on with her other classes. The staff and community are so supportive and encouraging with none of the dance mom drama that one might be worried about. If you’re looking for a true home for your dancer, this is the place! 💜

I couldn't be more pleased with my family's experience at Ashburn Academy of Dance. My daughter has been able to thrive, even through a COVID year, thanks to their attention to detail and safety procedures. She has not only grown as a dancer, but she has also grown as a person and has gained leadership and communication skills in addition to dance technique. As an adult dancer, I have been able to start training again after many years away from the studio and was welcomed with open arms. If you are looking for a studio with a focus on technique and the whole child, look no further!

If you are an adult looking for classes that are actually Challenging and worth your money this is the place!!! I absolutely loved my time here. It felt like I was back seriously dancing again instead of just taking jazzercise or something. Jose's adult contemporary class is a mix of every type of style, you learn real choreography and the class is challenging every week but modifiable for all types of levels! 100% recommend. Especially if you are someone who used to dance all the time and now you struggle finding a hobby as an adult. That was me and this is such a blessing! The ballet class was great too but I only tried it a few times. They also offer adult tap! Check this place out!!!

When I moved to Ashburn a couple years ago, my little one (at that time about to be 3 years old) were getting interested in dancing and music. I looked for a place where my girl can enjoy the learning without too much pressure. She is 4 now and it has been great! She is always looking forward to her Saturday ballet classes! Ms. Dara has been wonderful and patient with her even when my girl had down days. Other instructors and staff are also very friendly and personable once you get to know them. I typically take longer time to get to know people. 😉 In addition, I think their Darby’s Dancers program is contributing a lot to the community. And the star leadership program is very structured and it really teaches the life lessons to our young generation especially in terms of compassion! I will def keep taking her to this studio as long as my little one wants to. I cannot wait to enroll my youngest daughter when she turns 3!

Very pricey for only 45 mins of instruction per week. Recital fees outrageous. And class overbooked. I can't judge about the quality of instructions but I do not really understand how you could correct kids with only 2 instructors for such an amount of kids. Improvement can certainly be made.

AAD is such a great school! I started ballet there when I was 8 years old and loved it ever since. After a couple years of ballet some of my teachers encouraged me to take other styles of dance as well and I ended up taking jazz which eventually led to taking almost everything and I absolutely loved it! AAD helped me find my love for dance and I’m so grateful for the school.

My family has been at this studio for 14 years, and as the Ashburn community has grown over the years, so have the choices in dance studios. Despite having options to move to a different dance studio, we are more than happy with the Ashburn Academy of Dance for its teachers, training, choreography and community outreach programs. This studio is the package deal!

When selecting a dance studio for our daughter, I did my research. As a former dancer, I wanted to ensure that technique and passion were the focus. we were not comfortable with many options in the Ashburn area. We certainly did not want our daughter dancing around in booty shorts and a bra top! We found our perfect match at AAD. Now that she is a teenager, she has been afforded opportunities to give back to the community with outreach performances in senior communities and also work as a teacher's assistant in their unique special needs dance classes. This studio provides a total growth experience and is WAY more than just great dancing.

As with any activity, there are always a number of options about where to enroll your children. However, I know of no other dance studio in the surrounding area that makes service to others such a huge part of their program. Whether it's performing at retirement communities and nursing homes; raising money for causes like MS and pediatric brain cancer; or involving dancers in a free program for children and teens with special needs, this studio really stands out for its desire and willingness to give back. My daughters have grown not just as dancers (experiencing classical ballet training as well as dozens of contemporary performing opportunities) but also as young women of solid character, generosity, and compassion due to this studio's mission to make an impact in the community.

I absolutely love the Ashburn Academy of Dance! I trained at this wonderful studio starting at age 11 and feel so blessed to have been a part of such an awesome place. The directors, Ms. Katie and Ms. Anne Marie, and all the teachers care deeply about their students not only as dancers but, more importantly, as people! Some of my very fondest memories and friendships came because of my amazing experience at Ashburn Academy of Dance. I recommend all aspiring dancers to train at the Ashburn Academy of Dance!
