The course itself is wonderful, but unfortunately the experience is ruined by impatient, rude Marshalls who have no issues harassing and being generally rude toward anyone they decide isnβt playing up to their liking. Certainly wonβt be coming back anytime soon.

The course itself is one of the best in the Roanoke area. The 3 star review reflects on the clubhouse staff.
I arrive without a tee time to play and while the course has some other players, they are not overly busy. I go into pay saying that I wanted to play as a single so I can work on a few things to prepare for a tournament at the end of September and not hold up the rest of the group. The clubhouse attendant says he can put me in with the group of 3. I reinstate that I want to play as a single and was met with "Thats not possible." I asked why and was met with " If you want to play as a single, I can schedule you about an hour and a half later and you have to pay for all 4 spots ($50 per spot btw). Blue Hills is nice but not $200 nice and no other course in the area has this policy (Not Copper Cove or Hanging Rock) AND its not stated anywhere in the clubhouse or on the website.
I reluctantly join the group about to tee off and hang back to hit a few shots off the tee. During my second shot in my backswing I hear over the loudspeaker "Only one ball off the tee." Excuse me?! There is no rule in Golf stating that and there's no signage stating that.
The staff behavior didn't sit right with me the entire round. As much as I like Blue Hills to play on, I think due to the outdated policies and rude staff, I'll find a different course to play for a while.

Great golf course. Probably one of the best in the valley. The staff isnβt always very friendly. There have been times I have walked in there and wasnβt even greeted or acknowledged. Way too expensive

Blue hills is a well maintained and scenic golf course. The only issue I found was it is not handicap accessible. I have limited walking ability and with the steps up to many of the tees not having hand rails it created fall risks.

Tee Boxes, fairways and greens are all decent. Course layout is good, lots of tee boxes so you can play from the proper distances. Clubhouse is decent, pro shop guys were good, the Manager there is awesome, treated us and everyone else very well.

First off the course is great, greens are always beautiful honestly idk how they keep them up so well. My son had lessons with John (Golf Pro) and he was excellent very comfortable situation. The Staff other than one or two employees are great men and women. Wild life always in abundance. Deer turkey Ground hogs squirrels rabbits Baby coyote stumbled upon us on hole 10 pretty awesome experience and to top it all off in the video I posted Someoneβs pet bird landed at my feet today on hole 2 and let me pick him up. He played until hole 6 with us before flying away to the pond. Great experience honestly I feel blessed to have such a great location to attend. Love walking in and everyone knows my name.

Came into town to visit family and decided to play this course. Very very happy that I did so. The course was in really really great shape the putting greens the driving range the clubhouse customer service was fantastic. Most of the holes are very golfer friendly and very enjoyable and the greens were absolutely immaculate like a sponge and just beautifully maintained.
I plan to come play every time we visit family in Roanoke and this is a must for those of you who are in from out of town give this golf course a chance and I think you will be very happy

The Course is in the best condition of all the public golf courses in Roanoke. They have been upgrading everything from new smooth asphalt cart paths to GPS on the carts that tell you everything you need to know and listen to your favorite radio station at the same time. You can even check out the local up to date weather. The Restaurant food and staff are incredible. You've got to try the Pro's grilled smoked meat specials when available, 5 star flavor! The pro shop has everything any golfer would need or want from rental clubs to the latest gear available and the counter employees are not only friendly, professional and accommodating but they can and will help you with all your golfing needs. I have found though that it's best to call ahead for a tee time as they apparently fill up quickly. Lastly, I found out the head greens keeper doesn't allow fishing in the pond, Believe me, don't do that. π€· Otherwise, Enjoy the course and hit em' well.

I was in Roanoke for a business conference and wanted to play a round of golf. The course was very n great condition. The greens were recently aerated but were still very playable. This is a gem of a golf course. I will definitely continue me back when in the area!! Great staff too. They even announced your name one the first tee box.

This course is a nice surprise and a good value. Some challenging holes but you wonβt get discouraged due to its open layout. Grip and rip is fine for many holes since the under brush is well trimmed. Greens were well maintained with predictable speeds. Start of Fall so I had some challenge with leaves. Pro shop representative was a good face for the course and was a clear communicator about course expectations and rules. Iβll definitely come back when we are in the area again. Sorry picts for this review.

Hit medium bucket of balls. Nice day sun was shining.
Beautiful morning to hit a bucket of balls.
Finding tees at the range this morning. Top Racer is really good, especially when you figure out how to use it.
Update 10/4/24 using the driving range again. Prefer nature grass to the mats, but I guess they're letting the grass dry out from all the rain. The Topracer ball tracer has been spotty last few times. Picking up some of the balls hit but missing more.

Blue Hills is one of the best publicly accessible golf courses in the Roanoke area. The course is always in amazing condition and the staff are very welcoming and professional. Iβve always enjoyed playing here and consider this course to be my favorite public course in the area.

Really great condition for what you're paying for. I paid $35 on golfnow. Much better then expected, but I would be dissappointed at anything above $40.
Been years since I played fescue rough. I forgotten how much cleaner hit you get in that and sailed it 10 yards over the green.
Great staff. Ok carts...not a fan of gps devices, especially in gas carts.
Boring layout with very little scenery. Mountain in the background but no real landscaping features like planted bushes, meandering creeks, bridges..nothing but just the one mountain in the background.
Course conditions were great though. As good as any semi private place. Just not the extra plants and other landscape features to make you think it's outstanding.
For $35 though I'd easily play again if I'm in the area.

3 stars only because you guys stack people on top of each other.. Then yall drive through and tell us to hurry up when you can only go certain areas with your golf cart.. Ashley Plantation is 5 stars.
Quit stacking people right on top of each other

I played Blue Hills last week. Mid March fees were around $42 which was quite reasonable. The staff was super friendly and the course was in phenomenal shape- especially considering the time of year. The driving range utilizes toptracer was was an awesome surprise. I canβt wait to return.

Course is in immaculate condition as always but that isnβt the reason for 1 star. Unfortunately, the service and food quality in the restaurant has went downhill drastically in the last 3-6 months or so. Not sure what they are up to but it has not worked well. Hopefully theyβll get someone new up there to straighten it out.

Great layout and conditions. Terrible computer controlled carts. I'm local and am looking for a regular place to play. However the carts ruined what otherwise would have been a great experience. Two annoying issues: 1) The carts continually lock up and freeze if you enter an unapproved zone. Once it locked up while on the hill between the tee and the fairway on 10 after my buddy hit his shot. It wouldn't unlock no matter how long we waited. We had to get out and push the cart to get it rolling down the hill to get it unlocked. Not very safe. Another time it locked up while actually on the cart path on 12 after I returned from putting. Forces you to wait 15 seconds to unlock every time to let you drive again. 2) If you are not right on the heels of the group in front of you, it displays a pop-up message on the GPS display warning you that you are too far behind. The pop-up annoyingly occurs about every 5 minutes. To see the GPS map you have to dismiss the pop-up every time. The overall experience is you must play speed golf and be very careful where you drive, so you can't really enjoy the otherwise lovely golf course. Maybe I'll go back next year to see if they've resolved these issues. Technology can be helpful but also be horribly implemented.

This is the most well maintained course with public access in the area by far. Great layout, multiple tee options for different abilities, and a nice practice area with TopTracer Range. I play about 25 rounds a year and probably close to 20 of those are right here at Blue Hills.

This has been my "home" course for 20+ years. I just moved back to Virginia and was a little unsettled with the experience we had today. Expect to pay more than advertised without being told if you call the pro shop to make a tee time, or a $3 convenience fee if book online for the "advertised" $32.65. It costs the pro shop an additional $9 to pencil in a time? We couldn't drive on the fairways with sun and 75Β° temps because of overseeding? I can't imagine what they will do once they aerate as well. I'll just write this course off until next May. That will give them time to finish maintenance considering the seven groups they put off per hour. The owner will give excuses and can call me if they want to discuss any of the above.

The course is fantastic. The superintendent and grounds crew are amazing. They do a great job. The staff are amazing with the exception of one individual and a few patrons. My friend who has never golfed before received a few rude comments from some people who I assume are regulars there. Golf should be fun for everyone. I shouldn't have to explain to him he did nothing wrong. I plan on taking a break from Blue Hills and playing elsewhere

This golf course is, hands down, the nicest public course you're going to play in the Roanoke Valley and it's better-priced than most of the surrounding courses! The driving range has multiple tee boxes so you're never hitting from a dirt box and if the grass boxes are closed the mats they make you hit from aren't the type that you have to scrape off of your clubs later. They have 2 putting greens that are in great shape and they are indicative of the greens on the course as well whereas most courses have nice putting greens but their course greens aren't nearly as good. They have course rangers that patrol regularly to keep everyone moving, which is good as their tee times are usually within 9 minutes of each other. The golf shop and restrooms are clean and the staff is professional and polite. I can't speak to the restaurant as I never have time to stop in there and eat but have always heard good things about it. If there was one thing I would complain about, it's the snack shack never being open when I play there, which is always Friday mornings.

Played here yesterday in a group of 4 and course is in great shape. We played 18 in 4.5 hrs including stop at snack bar. But apparently thatβs not fast enough here as we received an less than friendly visit from the course Marshall on the 13Th par 5. Claiming that everything was backed up behind us. We stopped at snack bar for few min and that created a gap between us and the two guys in front of us. I understand pace of play is important but he could have been little friendlier and more respectful... especially after price gualging is for another $10 each for taking separate carts in order to βsocial distanceβ. I canβt say anything bad about the course itself, itβs awesome. Fairways are great, greens are great, and up until yesterday I loved playing here. But, for me Iβd much rather spend my money to play somewhere that I feel welcome and appreciates my business.

Very rude staff literally one hole behind the people in front of us and we were told we were playing to slow and needed to skip the next hole. My money is as good as the people that paid behind us. The really should rethink how they schedule tee times. Not our fault they donβt have enough carts. Very disappointed for my first and last visit here. Very very disappointed shame on you.

I play this course regularly. This weekend I was with a group of friends who dont play as much and was harrassed by the Marshall 4 times. First time ever! After we finished the Marshall told one in my group that he should never play the course again. My opinion is this was more than unprofessional. I will think twice before I spend my money to play this course again with this type of experience

4 hours for 13 holes today. The course would not speed up play with the large groups they booked to close together. Then said they don't have gaps between players which was not true. 3 foursomes per hole. Complete nightmare. The fairways were in terrible condition. They said these were the best in Roanoke. I think not. I've never given one star to anyplace ever to my memory. Wish there was a half star. See pictures for detail on several of the fairways.

Beautiful scenery but the golf course was in rough condition. Greens were actually pretty good, so for that reason I would possibly play it again (?!). But the fairways were terrible. I don't know if it was because of a drought, maintenance issues, or just your typical mountain course struggles. They were all punched and bare as could be - for the price they charge I expected better condition. The layout is ok, not a whole lot of design to the golf course and everything is bunched into a small property but they make the best use of the surroundings with the mountains in the backdrop.

I am an avid golfer and have been all over the states on golf courses. This is poorly managed to say the least. You are not allowed to bring the carts to your vehicle to get your golf bag (first timer I have EVER seen this). I had a tee time of 2:10...I arrived 30 minutes before and couldn't get on the tee till 2:45 (hour after I arrived) due to numerous parties lined up on the first hole like cattle. I paid for 18 holes but had to leave after 9 because of other golfers running up on u. Heck, we had a the group behind us come up on the tee box with us while we teed off. No, Blue Hills Golf Club can not control other golfers, but they should have been spaced out at the beginning. I haven't tried the other golf courses in the area but not sure they could be managed any worse. Cart path was horrible. The front 9 holes is for beginners (not sure about back 9)...Greens were in ok shape...Would NOT recommend this course (Even for the beginners...which it is geared towards)

I don't know where some of these people have been playing, but that place is a dog track. They must be dire need of money because the Pro was running around outside searching bags an coolers for drinks that weren't purchased in the Clubhouse.(Rather lame) The greens weren't bad, but even the local cows an goats would rather stay in their pasture than try an find grass in the fairway. We had 2, out of town, groups playing 4 different courses in the Roanoke area an this one BY FAR was the worse.
