This Y has a great mix of cardio and free weights equipment that suits me well. The staff is very friendly and the location is easily accessible from route 10 and route 1.

I will say that, in terms of the gym itself and their facility, it's a pretty nice place. The pool is always clean, there's usually an adequate amount of available equipment to use, and the staff are generally friendly.
My 2-star review is more specifically related to their youth sports. While my child's experience with their swimming classes has always been stellar (great instructors), our soccer experience was totally different. Coaches are volunteers are typically parents of kids on the team. This past season, we had an issue with the coaches assigning certain kids as substitute players-- meaning that the only play time they got was when another player needed to rest, etc. NOT what a pay-to-play league like the YMCA is supposed to be. All players are supposed to be allowed equal field time. So after several games of seeing my kid and the same other 2 kids sitting in the grass along the sidelines, picking through blades of grass, bored out of their minds, I spoke out for them -- first to the coaches (who wouldn't even respond to me) and then to the youth sports director at this branch. I received a reply back that they would address the issue with the coaches. For the next 2 games that followed, the issue appeared to be resolved. My daughter and the other 2 "substitute" kids were actually given play time. And then the very next game, the coaches were back to their usual method of keeping these same kids out. Mind you, none of these substitute were their own kids. This time I actually took time stamped photos of these kids on the sidelines. It was less than 7 minutes of field time that my daughter spent on the field. I sent yet another message to the YMCA along with these photos. All I received back was a message saying that they were sorry we had this experience and that if we have issues with any coaches in the future, that we should jump in and "assist" them & that they hope we'll register for other leagues in the future. LOL-- complete refusal for even a partial refund (the non-member rate for these leagues is around $120, btw) even though I'd already brought this issue to their attention previously. So, no, YMCA... we will NOT be signing up for any more of your poorly managed leagues. And to make matters worse, they apparently had YMCA reps there at all the games specifically looking out of the very issue we were experiencing -- that did literally absolutely nothing at all to stand up for and look out for those kids.

My children and my entire family have lived in Chester. After about 8 years of attending this gym my children are being harassed and we have recorded an incident in which the police were threatened after asking a question. Discrimination and harassment are definitely a problem with this facility.

Everybody is friendly puts smiles on members faces and its a judge free zone I recommend the YMCA because they make sure everything is clean and they never leave things dirty they also have an indoor pool and a locker room with a sauna so you can heat up instead of being cold they also have many different programs for kids of all ages and very fun classes for adults as well especially ZUMBA every Monday, Thursday, Friday nights and Saturday mornings and they have aqua zumba on Tuesdays as well

I love the water exercise classes and how everyone at all experience levels can join in the fitness fun!
Also thanks for keeping the saunas separate. Us women are comfortable and donβt feel exposed or anything having other women around. Please donβt make Chester YMCA co-ed saunas.

I switched to the YMCA after leaving Gold's Gym. I was tired if GG's facilities never being clean and equipment being broken for weeks on end. GG had a lot more weight lifting options, being that they focus on body building. However, the Y still has enough for me to do what I need to in my own routine for lifting.
While I do prefer how large the locker room at GG is and how spacious the shower stalls are, I appreciate the privacy available in the locker room. The shower water pressure is so much better at the Y, and the sauna is actually quiet. No one is in there blasting their music or whatever video they're watching.
Despite being under construction, the facilities are significantly cleaner than GG. Members don't leave trash around the gym or in the locker rooms. The locker rooms don't have ants or drain flies, which is really nice. The employees AND members actually seem to care that the facilities are kept clean as well. So many more people here follow the etiquette of wiping down machines when they finish using them. I've even seen staff wipe them down in the evenings.
I can't wait to see how the Y looks when construction is over and what great additions/upgrades they make.

The YMCA is an amazing organization!! But of course the Chester Y is a smaller Y and unfortunately right now is under construction, for the next year. :/
.... So the gym and weight room is all in 1 room divided by a partition.... With a track above the gym... And a weight area and pool is upstairs
And I was told the playground shouldn't be used, as it was under construction too... But didn't see signs of that.... Overall the staff seemed nice, and I was pleased to see all ages taking Zumba... It definitely looked fun, and seemed like a family affair : )

So friendly, called to inquire whether an 8 year old could work out with his parents and they were very kind, explaining all the guidelines. The facility itself was undergoing construction, so I believe the pool is closed at the moment. They moved all the equipment to the bottom floor, and they have an awesome space! Very disappointed with how one of the young staff members talked to me. Iβm 50 years old, and his tone was so condescending when he was asking me that I canβt stand on the track upstairs while watching the soccer game downstairs with my son, whose game was next. Instead of maybe saying βSir, if you can please stand behind the wall over there because people are not allowed on the track, thank youβ, he came at me like I was a 10 year old kid telling me βYou canβt stand here, you have to leaveβ in a very bad tone. No manners at all. I know not all staff members are like that, but maybe the young ones need more training on social skills!

Family oriented to a fault. The exercise room is brimming with rugrats playing on the workout equipment with no supervision. I have seen staff teaching children ages 8-12 to use the machines, so this is apparently condoned. Children in this age group should be encouraged to play outside. This is an awful place to get a workout in if you are an adult with no children.

The programs for the kids are very unorganized. The soccer team didn't have a coach last year. Seems my kid never learns anything when I pay for these programs. The swim program didnt send an email or info on the hrs when my child started. The class is only 30 mins. The day care hrs are limited. The hrs between 12:30 till 4:30 theres no day care and that's an inconvenience.

I was fortunate to be in Chester for personal reasons and stayed near the YMCA. So I decided to sign up only for a month to make sure I could get in my workouts. The staff was so friendly and helpful! They made the process super easy. Every day when I went in, they greeted me with smiles. All my questions were answered promptly and thoroughly. What a great team!
The facilities are very nice and there seems to be no shortage of standard gym equipment. The women's locker room was clean and well kept.
I focused my workouts on the H2O Pump Aqua Fitness classes. OMG! That class is AMAZING! Lisa, the instructor, is the BEST! She started and ended on time, had great routines that really worked out every part of my body, and played super music. No two days were alike. Lisa is loved by everyone in that class and I can see why many of them have been attending for months if not years. I know I would! I attended when I was able and genuinely missed it when I couldnβt. Everyone in the class was so friendly and the workouts were fun. Iβm spoiled now and have not found any classes in my area that even come close to Lisaβs. So next time Iβm in town, I want to bring her back to TX with me. π
Thank you Chester Family YMCA!!

I love the YMCA, I have been coming here for some time and feel I can say there needs to be improvement. Either staff more for child zone so that it will not be a break where itβs close and child zone should be available until close honestly. Itβs the child zone existence allows parents to work out at all. One star was deducted for that and the hours that could be later in the night. If the child son isnβt open allow for late hours like most gyms in the area.
Also one star was deducted for pool membership in addition to the annual fee and monthly fee to be a member. I find it absurd that for a family it will cost additional $400.00 for a few months of usage. Also Iβm not sure but people without kids use the family bathroom. Maybe consider a monitor for the family bathroom. One day I was using the pool with my 5 & 6 yr old and was heading to the womanβs bathroom and was told by the lifeguard with my children I couldnβt use the WOMENS bathrooms and I must go in the family bathroom. Well the same rules should apply to men without children using and walking through the family facility. Like I said those are some improvement that are geard toward members with families.

This gym offers a good amount of options as far as the equipment and classes. Quite a bit of the equipment would benefit from being upgraded. This particular location tends to get pretty busy and a lot of stations have a wait. The equipment is placed pretty tightly together. So during busy times, you're right up on one another. I haven't been very impressed with the child care at this location. At others I've always been greeted happily and the kids enjoy their time. Most of the providers here seem not happy to be there and don't say anything when you walk in.
Over all, it offers the equipment I'm looking for and the price is affordable compared to other gyms. I also enjoy the classes that are offered. The instructors are awesome. The childcare services could improve.

I would never allow my child to attend a place like this that do not support people with disabilities . As a disabled person , this has been the First year in 19 years that I have ever been hospitalized so you can see how traumatizing that is for me .I have been hospitalized in and out since December 31st . While going through one of the hardest times in my life , I joined this facility to help my son become more social around others and for me to work on my health with all of the resources and support I THOUGHT YMCA had to offer . I started paying for the membership but was never able to attend due to complications with my health and also different issues with my wheelchair . Still determined ,I signed my child up for summer camp , the first week he was unable to come because he had an allergic reaction , YMCA worked with me and my concerns of my child who has trouble speaking , I requested a meeting with a director and was hospitalized the same day I was suppose to meet .. weeks later I tried to cancel the membership and asked could I request a refund due to my son not being able to attend anything because I had been sick . THE ONLY REASON I AM LEAVING THIS REVIEW is because if you are part of the disabled community or have someone who may get sick YMCA DO NOT SUPPORT PEOPLE WITH DISABILITIES. They compared ME being in the hospital to two kids that could have attended camp the weeks my son couldnβt go . My child is 4 so if his parent canβt take him how do you exspect him to get there !!! Yβall tried to compare two kids who probably have parents that are not dealing with hospital stays and disabilities to a child who does .The YMCA IS A DISGRACE AND DO NOT PRACTICE what there mission stands for . They will never understand what people in wheelchairβs go through on a daily while trying to have a regular life like others . In the end after informing them that I want no parts of this facility they offered me to send in documentation to recieve a refund . I could have but to be honest they can keep there money since December 31st Iβve been in and out of the hospital fighting for my health . I will not go back to these facilities and the hassle of calling doctors office just to prove to somebody the hard times Iβve went through and currently still going through . I broke down in tears crying today because I am just so tired of people not understanding the hardships we go through on a daily . YMCA can keep their money but me and my child will NEVER step foot in a place that do not support people with disabilities AGAIN. Until you roll in my shoes you will never know the mental and emotion damage you have just caused due to the lack of empathy and the lack of care for others like me ! Thanks for adding more stress into our life !

I am a new member at the Chester Family YMCA. I recently moved to Chester and was looking for a place to exercise and take a class. I stopped in the YMCA to get some information. Everyone was very helpful and I got a nice tour. I've only been a member for 9 days and have taken several Zumba classes and a line dance class. All of the instructors are great. The exercise room is the best I've ever been in. It's big with a lot of fans and a great sound system. I intend on using some of the equipment and pool as well. So far I'm extremely happy and impressed with the facility.

CAMP RED FEATHER
The KID counselors are unorganized. Where are the ADULTS! They keep the lost and found items in an unsanitary manner. Wet towels, swimsuits, and undergarments all thrown into a bin with kids lunch boxes and water bottles. YUCK!!. When you would try to look through the lost and found you had to sort through and touch the nastiness and most of the time it was just all over the floor from the last person. The no peanut allergen mandate is unnecessary cause even though they put it in place they don't understand or follow it. They said sunbutter was ok but then asked my kid to sit alone because he had an sunbutter and jelly sandwich cause some kids are allergic to sunflower seeds. If that's the case then they need to do what the schools do and have a special table for kids with food allergies. Also they make the kids use Porta John's and thats not ok. Very disgusting. Overall I'm not satisfied for paying $200+ /wk and won't send him back at the conclusion of summer school.

Very disappointed. I CANCELLED while enrolling. Didn't join while onsite 2 Sundays ago 12:45ish @ Chester due to AMANDA's "mean girl" act (the Indian? lady). She treated me like i didn't belong. Looked at me like I was scum - mind you i'm over 40 & was dressed extra covered (t-shirt/pants) workout gear and was smiling and enjoying my informative convo with the Asian guy (EXCELLNT customer service btw) who explained the elements of membership. We had begun the membership process (data entry) but after her glares, gave a furtive look to another female employee, then she completely ignored me when i asked what was wrong. I asked twice with her standing 3 ft away at 2nd coutner. i CANCELLED right there on the spot. A Y member was in the lobby & witnessed the event & I could tell she was also displeased with Amanda's snotty attitude. If pleasant, college-educated, Christian black women are no longer welcome at this location, YMCA Chester, then pls hang a sign out front stating as such. It would've saved me the embarrassment.

The facility is nice and clean but if you plan on using the child watch program that they offer please be very cautious with them. On April 22,2023 lost my child and was out of their care of the two workers that were watching the room at the time. My son was gone for 2-3 minutes and not one worker realized he was gone. When I realized the workers didnβt know he was gone from the room I went and said something to them and they admitted they didnβt know he left but then the older worker Ginny told me βI canβt hold him(referencing my baby) and watch him (referencing my toddler) same time.β To me her saying that is veryworrisome because they had almost 15 kids in there at the time and she was telling me she canβt even handle two. When I addressed this with management the only person that seemed like the semi cared was Eboni when I addressed the situation with Mike the membership director the only thing he could say is that will talk about the situation in a team meeting and continue training staff. When I went in on Monday April 24,2023 to cancel my membership Ginny was right back in the room βwatchingβchildren like nothing had happened on Saturday. Please be mindful and watchful if you are sending your children to this child watch program

I really enjoy the Just My Speed swim class by Dolly. She cares for each of us and goes above and beyond to assure we are doing the movements in the water correctly. I would recommend this class (and do) to anyone needing a weightless workout in the water. It for sure has helped my pain and circulation in my legs. Also, I now have a group of ladies that are regulars like myself to chat up, which make the day more social and enjoyable.

ITS WAY TO HOT IN HERE ! They never put enough air conditioning. The heat is too high in the winter. Most people can get a better workout in a cool environment. Otherwise, its a nice gym. The staff are great people. I NEVER use the pool but I pay for it anyway. There are only 3 treadmills near a fan. I see fans located near equipment that is used 1/3 of the time. We need a fan in front of every treadmill for people who choose to use it. This overly warm exercise environment is unhealthy especially when itβs crowded, which seems to be pretty often. Sorry but I have to be honest !

I was there today and Darlene said everyone has 5 minutes a minute later sheβs cuts the lights off and yells at everyone to get out when we have about 3 minutes left to work out. So we keep working out because we have time and she continues to yell at people. Something needs to be said to her or fire her.
