Hi everyone, I joined Gold Gym to get fit and started training with Compel Fitness a month ago. I can already see a difference. My endurance has become incredible, which is essential for performing an Indian classical dance form called Kathak. Especially at the age of 47, I wasn't expecting much from my body since I started taking care of myself later in life. I began learning Kathak only a year ago, but I can see the incredible help I'm receiving from the classes at Compel, and my trainers, especially Darius, are doing a fantastic job with me. Since January 2022, I have been training with Coach Flav. When I started, I was the heaviest I’ve ever been, and now I am 35 pounds lighter. While I lost weight, I also gained a sense of confidence that I had been missing for a long time. Coach Flav was not only a fitness coach for me, he was also a mentor and friend. I definitely recommend Compel at the Mechanicsville Gold’s Gym location.

Compel has been great in building a fitness journey for me. Prior to joining, visiting the gym had not been part of my life for a large number of years. Even within 2022, the program has even improved, the consistency of a team, director, coaches, check-ins. It all has worked out well as the Compel Mechanicsville team has been able to build rapport with us and us with them.
What I would like to see is the company promoting itself better. Where are social media postings? No active sponsored posts to even alert people that this exists within Golds. It's what attracted me when I joined but since then, it seems to have vanished. Also what more is there for advertising, than to provide Compel gear to the existing participants. T-shirts for Compel, maybe something like a lanyard, a mug, where when people ask what that means, we can speak on the company's behalf. It would be great at renewal time, these are things we are given.
My 5 stars reflect the program that's steadily been better in Mechanicsville, however there is some marketing work that needs to be bettered on a corporate level.

My husband and I have been with Compel for 3-4 yrs. Their trainers, for the most part, have designed good workouts that keep us motivated. They are sensitive to people's needs, and work with newcomers to make them feel comfortable. They are also very good at suggesting alternative exercises when needed. We love it when we arrive to find our workout already set up, and the trainer ready to go. While this is the case now, it has not always been the case. In the past, there have been some new trainers who have had less experience and whose workouts were not as challenging as they could have been. As longterm members, we have had to adjust to a multitude of trainers, perhaps 20 or so, many who have left with little or no notice. This can be a very frustrating experience for a paying customer who has developed a good rapport with a trainer who has come to understand our individualized goals. This rapport takes time to develop with each new subsequent trainer. We have always felt like the "step-child" at Gold's Gym. We pay a great deal for Compel over and above our monthly membership with Golds. We expect to have adequate workout space, but have never had it. We are happy to hear however, that this may happen in the near future. We shall see. Although we have just focused on some of our negative experiences with Golds/Compel, our gym experience there has remained overall very good. Flav has been especially attentive to his customers and to his trainers' needs, and this is very apparent. A good sense of humor is also a very helpful asset!πŸ˜„

Nelson is great! He always has everything setup before class begins and thoughtful lesson plans ready to go. I enjoy the workouts because the class is well structured and garners a nice showing of other people that makes it fun. The class starts and ends on time, which makes efficient use of a busy person’s schedule. I simply wouldn’t lift weights or do squats on my own without this kind of structure and environment. The classes are focused on building muscle and good technique. Nelson is encouraging and positive, which is what you want from an exercise coach. I would encourage anyone who needs motivation to try the team training packages, which are totally affordable! This is excellent first step towards getting serious about your exercise routine.

I was very intrigued by these group training classes when I first saw them taking place. They are my favorite style (I used to teach fitness classes and always loved non-choreography routines, free style design and music).
I saw people of all types giving it their best so I decided to join.
I was hooked from day one. The amount of effort and intensity is exactly what I want from a 45-minute class. I love lifting weights but I realize that I wasn’t challenging myself as I do in this bootcamp format: All the way, no excuses. No whining.

I would only suggest to add an stretch segment after each class. Always. Some instructors do so but I believe it to be imperative... Every. Single. Time. The cost of this program is such that I expect to get the full class: Warm-up + Workout + Stretch.

I don’t take advantage of the nutritional advice or personalized workouts because at this time I do not require any help so my review is strictly about the Group Training Classes.

Also, customer service since the new personnel has taken over the business have been impeccable. They take good care of me!

Join. Get a heck of a workout. Go home happy.

Only I would get inspired just before the Thanksgiving Holiday.....Compel "called" and I answered....The Facebook ad caught my attention....and they came through...The support and encouragement was what I needed ....The staff is friendly ...but tough....I thought I was crazy...but I was successful !! 11.4 lbs and 6.5% body fat lost and im ahead of the game....my new lifestyle came before the new year...and I'm ecstatic .....Thank You COMPEL!

The trainers do not answer emails. One is not verbally told all of the information up front. They use pressure tactics to recruit bodies and take your money. Once I signed up there was 0 follow-up. They don't tell you about the 250$ cancellation fee or the measly 3 days you have to cancel for full refund. All that is in the fine print. Read your contracts. They take advantage of those who don't. You are automatically set to recur your billing cycle each year so watch out for that, too. You will not be told that either. 0/10 not helpful at all, no customer service skills. Will not recommend to anyone.

I started in October 2017. I have worked with Monea since then. If you put the work in, you get the results! It's not an overnight process. Monea makes if fun and she know how to get the most out of you. The business office can be somewhat unresponsive and there online system is questionable. I am not sure the credits they give for sessions is always correct and the company itself does not seem transparent about how they manage them, but the trainer I work with is 5 stars. My experience with Compel has been nothing short of fantastic! I had some schedule changes with a new job and they were able to accommodate me so easily. I started working with Don as my original trainer and he was wonderful! We went over my goals and what foods were okay to eat to help with my goals. He gave me a "cheat sheet" to help me figure out what foods were better to eat at what time of the day, which I found so helpful. Don is very personable and has such a loving personality. At the end of my 1 year sessions, I left feeling more motivated, beautiful, and feeling much better about myself. I would definitely recommend Compel Fitness to anyone looking for a little push with their workout routine or anyone who is looking to better themselves. Ask for Don!

Working out is possibly the hardest thing to start doing at any age, however when u are in your mid 50's it is important to stay healthy and active.
Get started by taking a class or getting a trainer.
The Gold's gym at Bell Creek - friendly staff, willing to help, clean equipment .
Compel fitness - works with u on your individual goals. Love working out 2 to 3 days a week! Have gone from a size 20 to a size 12!
Quit many other work out programs and diets, but this program is the one!
My trainer Don is the best! For 30 minutes I cry and whine and turn around and come back for more because it works!

I started May 2017 with Compel and my coach Don. My wife actually signed me up because I was just feeling terrible. I had a gym membership for years, however, just walking on the treadmill wasn’t cutting it. Coach Don interviewed me, found out my goals and he devised a program to get me back into shape. Don made me feel at ease. We started with a core boot camp. He kicked my butt, however it was worth it. After about 3 months of core training, he added in weights. All the while I noticed my clothes were fitting differently and I was feeling much better. I looked forward to going to the gym. Now almost a year after starting, I’m stronger than I have ever been. I feel great. I honestly have never felt this strong in my life! Thanks Compel Fitness and especially Coach Don Ferrette for getting back on track! I can’t recommend them enough!

Warning: I happen to have the best trainer imaginable (Coach Don), so there aren’t enough stars on this rating scale! I started training with him 3 times a week back in August, and within a few months, I was looking in the mirror at new cut lines and bragging about how much I could deadlift! My attitude, health and body image have all been forever changed because of Golds Gym & my personal training sessions with Don!
