I loved today’s class, love a heavy lift day! The atmosphere created by Coach Ray was supportive and encouraging. She was able to give precise feedback to help correct our form while we moved through the workout.

Ray always brings great energy and vibes to the 5 a.m. class….we need it!! Definitely enjoy the warm-up and mobility to get ready for the WOD. She keeps you motivated through the workout. And most important, her old skool music playlist is the best!

Lindsay is a very thoughtful coach and will work with any individual limitations an athlete may have so they get the most from the workouts.
She is encouraging and very positive in attitude. Even though you are tired from the workouts you leave her classes happy.

Coach Ray does an amazing job leading class! I love that she starts with mobility to help us warm up. She always explains the movements thoroughly and demonstrates scaling options too. During the WOD she is constantly cheering each of us on by name. Just like all the coaches, she makes CFHR a great place to work out!

I had a great time. It was very challenging given the amount of running and the back to back nature of training like that. I liked it even while I hated it. Ray was encouraging and great at alternative movements when I couldn’t do something due to my litany of injuries.

Lindsay is an empathetic coach…during check-in and stretches, she’ll quickly suggest a pathway through what would be an impossible workout for me…scaling that offers success while remaining personally challenging. And she’s right there with a tip or encouragement right when you need it. Her coaching repertoire is vast and ever-expanding, and she inspires heart and drive in the other coaches on her team at CFHR. I started here around age 60 or so, having never been an athlete, and was overweight to boot. Got a wild hair during one of their free promotional weeks and never looked back. The community at this gym is fabulous. Classes at CFHR are always the best hour of my day.

Lindsay did (and always does) great! Today was kind of challenge for me regarding strength, but Lindsay offered tips and coaching strategies that I thought about through the workout that I think really helped me get through more than I may have. The coaching staff and laid back approaches is a main reason why CFHR is such an awesome gym that I will continue to be a member of!

Danielle is a great coach. I am newer coming back from a long hiatus from crossfit so she spends a lot of time with me making sure my form is correct. I’ve been there “long enough” where I am starting to try to take on more weight, try to challenge myself with the workouts more and she has been great at helping me set limits as I go to make sure I maintain my safety, dont get hurt, and am able to keep coming back so I can eventually handle what I am trying to do. Thanks coach!

CFHR is my health and wellness family. Not only do you work out but you also get help with your nutrition and living a better quality of life. When people hear Crossfit they are automatically intimidated...that is one thing I would like to tell people....get over that fear and come in and work out!! You will see people from all different athletic backgrounds and many with no athletic backgrounds. Everyone does the same WOD but scaled appropriately for their skills and abilities. What makes this CFHR box different is the level of coaching you receive each and every day...the coaches are constantly keeping an eye on all the athletes whether you are just starting out or you know all the movements and named WODS by heart:))

Last summer I decided I was tired of gaining weight and I needed to do something about it. I ran into one of the coaches at a golf course after I had been looking into CrossFit gyms ( called boxes) so I decided to go meet coach Ray to check the place out. I started the next week and it’s been amazing ever since. When I started I was not good at the movement. I had not done much weight lifting but coach Lindsey worked with me. All the coaches and the box community are amazing. They encourage and help motivate to keep pushing. Lindsey does goal setting in the spring each year. I am not normally one to make goals but this year I did. I dialed in my nutrition and have seen huge results. I can lift way more than I could last July, I lost 20lbs and move faster . If you are an athlete looking to stay in great condition or new to CrossFit don’t look any further!

CFHR is more than a gym, it's a community. Our son originally started going to the teens class for off season sport training. He quickly saw improvement with his speed, strength, and agility. Now our entire family attends classes. The kids class is great to keep our daughter active while having fun. The coaches are fantastic and the atmosphere is welcoming. Scaling options are always offered, making this gym a great fit for a skill levels!

I am so glad that I decided to take a leap o faith and walk into the gym with questions about CrossFit. I was welcomed with open arms during my first drop in class. That one class is all it took for me to become a member. Now 5 months later, I have saw so much improvement in my fitness level. All the coaches there are amazing. Just an all around wonderful environment to come workout in.

Update: A year later and still LOVING CFHR! The owner of our gym, Coach Lindsay, keeps making improvements and the gym keeps getting better! I’ve progressed a lot in the past year under the guidance of all of our wonderful coaches. My biggest accomplishments were getting pull-ups during Opens 2022 (because of the encouragement from Coach Amiryah) and starting the path the handstand push-ups (Thanks, Coach Ray!).
Original Review:
If you are thinking about trying CrossFit or are a seasoned athlete, this is the place to go. I started with zero experience in weight-lifting and gymnastic movement and have accomplished more than I thought possible. The coaches are amazing at working with everyone on a scale that is challenging but not overwhelming. Their encouragement has given me the push to try movements I never thought I would get. Coach Josh helped me get over my fear of box jumps, Coach Jess managed to get rope climbs to click in my head (touching the ceiling for the first time was a-mazing!), and Coach Lindsay (the owner of our box!) told me I could definitely get toes-to-bar as I replied, “No, I can’t, see - oh wait I just did!”

As a former athlete and military member, sometimes you need that extra push and drive during a workout. A place for all (kids' and teens' classes offered) to come learn, make friends, and compete. Additional classes and support offered (intro course to crossfit, healthy eating habits, and physical therapists visit on site). Very strict on form, and making sure you're using your body the right way through movements. If you're not a lifter or gymnist, the coaches work to make sure you're still developing and growing too. If you like a hard workout, good people, and becoming a healthier person, this place is for you.

After years of relative inactivity and the relentless effects of the aging process, I have lost a great deal of strength, flexibility, and mobility. My major concern about re-engaging in physical fitness at an advanced age was doing it in a safe and practical manner where I could make progress without injury. One major impression that I have had with CrossFit Hampton Roads has been the high level of coaching that they have provided. For me (and others), they are fully engaged at modifying workouts to try to match the levels of effort needed to my skill level. And, just as importantly as their modifications to exercises, they continually watch, instruct, and modify during work out periods to try to improve my positioning, motions, and exertion levels to get the most performance from me without self-injury. In the four months of attendance so far, I have seen continued improvements in my strength, flexibility, and stamina, without setbacks.
To my knowledge, CrossFit gyms are individually owned and reflect that fact. I would have to say that this one is outstanding, particularly because of the level of coaching that they provide.

CrossFit Hampton Roads is wonderful! I am new to CrossFit and was apprehensive at first, but the owners and staff have gone above and beyond to ensure that I am moving at a comfortable pace, all while still encouraging me to push myself and improve my technique. There are members of all ages with different skill sets and abilities so nobody feels left out. There are class times that can fit just about anyones schedule and the staff and members are some of the best people you could hope to meet.

I have been training here for the last three month now and I can safely say I wouldn't train anywhere else. The gym is fill with a solid group of people all helping each other to push forward and amazing coaches. I started here to improve my fitness on my mountain bike and it has been a tremendous help, especially with the approaching winter season I'll now be able to maintain and gain fitness. The coaches have been a huge help with getting my form back on point since it's been 7 years since I've done this type of training. I really couldn't recommend a better place to train.

Signed up and paid for their Takeoff course back in February for their March class. I fell sick on the first day of the course and asked to be rescheduled for a later course to which they initially agreed. They never rescheduled me. After numerous emails and phone calls went unanswered to try to get me rescheduled, I decided I just wanted my money back. So several months later of emails and phone calls to their owner, I still do not have my money back. They refuse to respond to my emails. They are screening my phone calls because every time I have called, it goes to a Google voicemail. They aren't even using a real phone for their business. They are using a Google voice app. I'm sure they are nice people to exercise with, but on the business side, they are crooked. To this day, I still have not received any refund from them nor any contact. Once they have your money, they do not care whether you show up or not. I tried looking up their refund policy, but it is not listed anywhere on their website nor are you provided a copy of the policy after you've already paid for the course. It has been several months of my trying to get some sort of resolution from them with no response. They respond immediately as soon as I write a negative review about them on the internet. So they can't be that inundated if they are able to take the time to read and respond to an online review. Out of all the emails I sent them, NOT ONE was responded to. They messed up. They should admit they messed up and just return my money to me. My trust in them has already been damaged so their new offer to place me into a future Takeoff class is pointless. Maybe "crooked' is not the right word, but what else do you call it when someone takes your money and doesn't provide you with the service you paid for? It seems pretty unethical to me. Granted, this review reflects my experience with them and does not represent anyone else's.

This gym is hands down the best box I have ever been too! While I am not a resident of Hampton Roads I am there several times a year and when ever I arrive this box is the first place I seek out. Due to their coaches vast knowledge in their craft my lifts have improved every single time I have visited. While their coaches and facility is second to no other box I have visited, it is the community they foster that has been one of my favourite parts of going; even if i have been gone for over six or seven months, when i walk into the front door of the box I am greeted with smiles, handshakes, and people that I am on a first name basis with.
I hope to be back to to Crossfit Hampton Roads in the near future.

I heart this place. That feeling you get after successfully completing a WOD is a sensational reward and it makes you want to do better next time. And you don't have to be a super athlete to get started, just have the interest to get going. The coaches have all been very supportive, informative, and while they don't want you to get injured they will push you into discomfort. You have to get there if you want to improve. Lately my work hasn't afforded me the time to go and I miss it, but I will most certainly get back there.

I was in the area for 3 months for school and I went to several different Crossfit boxes in the area and I choose to stay with these guys and if you drop in you will know why. They were very welcoming and had great coaches. Having done Crossfit for a while now and attending the Crossfit Level 1 course, I was still learning new things to take back home with me every day. I can't wait to be in the Hampton Roads area again to stop in and hang out and workout with these guys again.

I was in town for a wedding and was welcomed and made to feel a part of the family when I dropped in for thier competition class. Jeremy was great in showing me around the gym and Matt (competition class trainer) kept the class running fast and on time. Its great to know that there are gyms out there that welcome outsiders as if they are one of thier own. I look forward to stopping by the next time I am in the area.

I began Crossfit after seeing successes that other members of my family were having with this gym. After no previous sport background and having two kids, I was starting at the very beginning level and Crossfit Hampton Roads worked with me to help me see improvements in my body and my overall training immediately. Not only did I lose 35 pounds in the first six months at Crossfit, but I have conquered my hatred of running, seen significant improvement in my barbell work, and am able to perform many of the Crossfit movements I would not dare try prior to Crossfit. Crossfit has allowed me a place learn how to exercise correctly, with great coaches to guide and encourage me to reach a greater level of fitness.

I have no sports/athletic background. Coming to this gym or “box” was, at first, intimidating. The intimidation was misplaced. The coaches are very open and helpful; the other members are polite and helpful as well. The work outs are scalable meaning that no matter what your level you can complete the workout by adjusting movement, reps, etc. If you want to a gym that motivates you with helpful coaching along the way look no futher. Best gym on the East Coast!

I've been associated with this CrossFit since November 2011 and so far I could say there is never a day I regret coming to this gym. Before coming here I was enrolled with another gym and I was pretty much paying them for membership and not using it. This wasn't the first time I've ever done it before, I've done it to 3 other gyms. I could tell you this was not the same for this one. I looked forward to attending the classes they have everyday. I usually attended 4pm class after work but if my schedule changed to nights, I would attend the 10am or 11am class. If we have half day I would attend the 6am class. This was another reason I loved this gym, there were many options if you miss a class. I liked how they required new members to attend a two week intro class to assure you do not get injured and teach the basic moves step by step. Don't be afraid to ask any questions because there are different types of CrossFit gyms out there and sometimes there are bad images that gives CrossFit a bad name when this is far from it. I love how people would introduce themselves to you if they noticed you are new or unfamiliar, it'll make you feel welcomed. Any physical disabilities that you may think will prevent you from going? I'm speaking from experience, I was able to workout despite my physical disabilities. But trust me, you'll love the atmosphere. If you are an experience crossfitter, they welcome for temp membership. Thank you CFHR for the encouragement and support.

One word. Community. Anything you do together you do better. Including physical activity. If you look paste the amazing coaching and programing (like scientific stuff people) and you look paste the hundreds of thousands in facilities and equipment you are going to see an amazing community of people working together. This is the only sport/workout facility where you are going to get uplifted for every single achievement you make known. It's like that super bowl commercial a few years ago were the guy wakes up and has his own chorus group singing his name to the beat of "Eye of the Tiger." Only not a cheesy.

I have trained at many crossfit gyms, kettlebell gyms and fitness facilities across the country and CFHR is absolutely top notch! Jeremy, Nicole, and the rest of the coaches are extremely knowledgeable and promote a friendly and safe environment while giving you all you need for you to work towards your fitness goals.
Jeremy's programming has helped me tremendously as a competitive Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu fighter. CFHR's conditioning has helped me not only stay competitive but allow me to perform extremely well against younger and heavier opponents. I would not be anywhere close to the condition I am in without Jeremy and the rest of the amazing athletes at Crossfit Hampton Roads!
