I was member of this gym for about 4 years. Yes it's often filthy and there always seems to be busted equipment. But I tolerated all of that because it was a convenient location.

Unfortunately, they make it intentionally difficult to cancel your membership and this is how this is done.

1. Members have to email the manager. The website says you can stop in and cancel but when I got there today I was told that it must be done by email. There is no link to the necessary email on the website or member log-in page. It's easy to join but not as easy to leave.
2. The manager requires that you give a reason why your canceling. Why would anyone have to give an explanation to cancel a membership? I'm moving and I don't feel like I have to explain my personal life or reasons to anyone.
3. They require a 30 day notice to cancel and so you will have to pay the next months membership fee after you leave because of course unless you canceled on the first day of a 31 day month....they will extract that final payment. They should offer a way to pay and go, not this 30 days gotya clause.

I can only imagine how many extra months of membership fees they extract from folks who have to figure out how to leave. In my case I tried to cancel online and when I finally figured out there was no way to cancel online I had to call and or stop in and write an email. In that sense it feels a bit like the Hotel California easy to join hard to leave.

Super friendly Crunch Fitness location. Mario was extremely helpful and knowledgeable, going above and beyond to answer all of my questions. Clean and chill environment here. Plenty of parking close to the building. Sadly, despite what older reviews say, there is NO POOL at this location any longer.

Utterly filthy, grimy gym with busted equipment. They focus entirely too much on training when they really should focus on equipment maintenance and overall cleanliness. Clearly there aren’t enough plates to go around, either, since they’re always scattered about. I only go here because Planet Fitness doesn’t have heavy enough free weights.

Edit 1: I’m making this one star because I’m sick of half-broken or outright broken machines, plus they apparently allow vaping inside the gym. Seriously, get control of your patrons.

Edit 2: I’m going to just keep adding to this review because this gym really just gets worse and worse. Tell me why there’s dried protein shake on the floor going on two weeks (see picture)? Why are several of the paper towel dispensers are frequently empty, meaning probably no one is wiping the equipment down after they sweat all over? Why are weights still scattered everywhere so you have to go hunting them down? Can you call the health department on a gym? I’ll be canceling my membership.

They charged my account without my knowledge or permission, and when I asked about it, the staff gave me no clear explanation and didn’t resolve the issue. This is not acceptable. The new management I'm guessing the gm(Terrell) has poor customer service. There's been a new thing where they make you download the app or no entry so if you leave your phone at home or it dies you can't enter even if you pay for a top tier membership like myself or if your an older person and are not tech savvy you can't enter without the app even put up a sign saying so . A lot of ppl who have been coming here are not happy about how he handles stuff .. it def will affect the family(members who have been here for years or at least long before he came. This and the increase in price might have me going elsewhere . This is not my home gym but I decided this to be my main gym because of the vibe n customer service which those employees have left due to mistreatment. I’ve been a member here since American Family opened it. Been thru numerous club owners and names. This by far has to be the worst facilty that I’ve had the displeasure of writing a review for. I’m not blaming the front line people because I know their jobs are difficult dealing with the public but here goes. 1st I can’t get anyone’s number higher then Barry’s . Just a email I’m assuming because the guy above him would have calls non stop. Secondly the person who cleans does a tremendous job on what he has to work with. Now let’s address the main issues: 1- broken lockers(been like this for years)/ doors very few seats and horrible disgusting filthy showers. 2- broken equipment/ lack of attachments and gym bags on the floor for people to trip over. Clogged drains and broken faucets. On top of all this they raise our membership fees and absolute nothing is done for repairs. Now I’m forced after being here at this facility for over 20 yrs to now go to another fitness club with the same fees but a fitness center that’s taken care of.

Generally a nice gym. Finding attachments and clips for the cables can be frustrating. The locker room could use a little bit of work. There has been a door broken in half with a lock on it for several weeks now.

Equipment is frequently broken. Staff is not helpful at all. Kid's area and lobby are always dirty and gross. The property is disgusting, unkempt, and full of trash. Manager does not care about keeping the property clean and functional at all. None of the other Crunch locations in the RVA have any of these issues.

I had the worst experience with Crunch last night. I attended Ms Day Zumba class for the first time after her inviting me in kids club and I absolutely loved it but when I went to go pick up my kid from kids club there was about 8 kids unattended and as I stood there for at least 5 minutes watching them I asked the front desk where the team member was that was watching the kids but they expressed to me that they were only supposed to watch the kids from 6-7pm which was not expressed to anyone.The team member was found with Ms day who was finishing up with her class and the first thing the team member said to me was that my kid was bad. I listened to what they had to say and corrected my kids actions at home but l immediately asked who was supposed to be watching the kids while they went to go find Ms. Day then they proceeded to tell me they "weren't going to argue with me" this was my first time interacting with the team member as they appeared to be new to the team. But the level of unprofessionalism was insane! Thankfully Ms day stepped in and helped defuse the situation. But to think that there were at least 8 kids unattended that anyone could've snatched is insane to me. Now idk if I even want to continue my membership because I go there for the child care and Ms day is amazing with the kids and continues to be positive with her "there's no bad kids" mentality and having fun games for the kids but to stretch one person out from Zumba to child care is overwhelming.
I would love to attend more Zumba classes but I don't trust this crunch with my child unless it's Ms day or a properly trained person with child care experience.

A good gym for the price point- not crowded, modern, friendly staff. 4/5 stars because the water fountains need updating (minimal pressure so hard to use, please get a fill station for personal use drink containers). Would love a simple coat rack/storage area to put my coat. Music is too loud and I dislike the genre usually playing- most people wear headphones anyhow, but I can hear through mine. Could cut it back.

Overall a pretty good gym, and most staff are nice. They’ve spent some money lately on upgrades, and desk staff are friendly. However under no circumstances should you leave your children here. I have been told the lights are annoying to the Kids Club staff, and cursed at to leave them off (in front of my child). Kids club staff wears headphones while working and pays zero attention to your kids’ safety. Not a bad place if you’re solo, but definitely avoid if you’ve got little ones.

I absolutely love this location. Ive been here three times now and truly enjoy it. Keith does a phenomenal job of keeping the place clean. He works around the guests as needed and is friendly while doing so. Eric, is an amazing employee as well. If you’re looking to train I highly recommend. I can not say enough good things about this gym. I was hesitant to join a gym but needed something for myself as a stay at home mom of a 3 year old. While I have made a connection with all the day time staff and love every single one of them so much, Camryn will always be number one! She got me in there and out of my comfort zone and I now go Monday- Friday. I truly would have never made the leap if she didn’t give me the push. My son absolutely loves going to kids crunch and even asks me if I can work out longer sometimes because he doesn’t want to leave. I know my son is well cared for which gives me the time to focus on myself and push myself more and more every day.
