I compete in the sport of Olympic Weightlifting and since that requires a women's weightlifting bar (25mm vs 28mm grip), I travel with my own bar and take it in with me to the Crunch Fitness locations in cities we travel through. I prefer Crunch Fitness because they are one of only a few chains where I'll find a weightlifting platform 99% of time.
I walked into this location in Roanoke and an older lady (no name badge and I'm guessing manager) rushed over... not to say hello or welcome us to her gym but to say, "you aren't bringing that bar in with you. we don't allow it. we have kids that come in here." I explained I travel with my own bar and she relented that she would permit it this one time. I assured her I would make sure to never stop in Roanoke again. And, I won't.
I don't mind common sense policies or even having a discussion about how my bar differs from what they have in the gym... but she was rude and unwelcoming. I'm not even sure what the comment about "kids" meant.
The space overall was good - 3 platforms, good machines, HIIT space and a 2nd level with training rooms. The gym was clean.

I saw the last review and have to wonder if he has the wrong gym? I go to Crunch Roanoke almost every day and have never seen broken mirrors. I love the staff… I have gone to multiple gyms and it’s by far the cleanest gym with the friendliest people.

I’ve been a member of Crunch Fitness for a few weeks, and so far I am very happy. The initial tour and sign up were great, I wish I could remember the woman’s name who showed us around. She thoroughly explained the different membership options and took us through the entire gym. I’ve worked out there about a half a dozen times since signing up, and I really enjoyed it. The equipment is all modern and in great working condition, and there is plenty of it. I generally go in the mid morning and never have to wait for a machine or a piece of equipment. The locker room facilities look nice as well.

The turn around time to repair equipment is becoming an issue. It is understood that equipment will break however a plan to get it repaired quickly should be equally understood.

You need to invest in larger trash cans throughout the gym as well as increasing the number of paper towel dispensers you provide. 2 or 3 small waste cans and two paper towel dispensers throughout the gym isn't enough causing many not to bother wiping down the equipment when they are finished.

I have belonged to Crunch Fitness for quite some time now. I just wanted to say how great this gym is. The Front Desk and Managment are amazing. They are so welcoming and friendly. The memberships are very affordable and are such a great price for everything you get! The memberships were clearly explained and signing up was easy! I love how they have a year contract as well as a month-to-month option. The gym is clean and there is a ton of space and tons of equipment to work out on. I can't not recommend this gym enough

I’m very disappointed with the way I was treated by the management at this gym. After canceling my membership, I was still charged — even though I followed the correct process. When I tried to resolve it, the manager was rude and dismissive, acting more like she owned the place than someone who should be helping customers.

This kind of attitude is unacceptable, especially when there are so many better gym options around. I do not recommend this location based on my experience with their unprofessional customer service and billing practices. Be cautious

I joined with high hopes however it quickly changed. I should have seen the red flags when I had to file a complaint just to get my free trainer session just to show me the equipment so I would be comfortable using. Then he rushed through it like it was a problem. What made me leave was this horrible loud timer that a trainer in the cycling class uses. It echoes through the entire gym. Can even hear outside the building. My ear phones would not drown it out. I spoke to management twice and was told it's not loud and she would continue to use it. It should only be heard in the classroom not entire gym. I couldn't take it. Then when I canceled they had ordacity to tell me one more payment would be charged. I was only 3 days into current monthly charge and they think I'm gonna pay them a month later! Good riddins to them. I am much happier with Planet Fitness.

Ok so we signed up for the gym paid the sign up fee and which is $75 and got billed the monthly fee which is $16.99 great…. then second month I’m hit with another $60. So I’m like why $60? Apparently the annual fee that very other gym charges at the end of the year, gets billed on the second month. So 2 months in your at $170. Now granted we did this online so I’m sure they would have explained that this temporary membership with zero commitment is going to cost me, but online it’s SUPER misleading. If your doing a summer thing or unsure be aware annual means right now. The gym is nice and clean though

I was in town recently for the week visiting family and needed a place to work out so I bought a week pass at Crunch Roanoke. Crunch had everything I needed and I loved how clean and organized everything was. I went to the 5:30 AM HIIT class and I am so happy I did! Nate was amazing and the people in the class made it a great experience. Next time I’m back in town, I’ll be coming back to crunch and attending more of Nate’s classes!

Squat racks are taken for 30 minutes at a time, muscleheads are slamming their deadlifts and disrupting others bc they think it looks/sounds cool.

Of you can lift it up but can't control it on the way down can you really handle it?

Wow! My first time at crunch and I was so impressed! The makeover from the previous Golds gym is amazing! I loved the sauna and the ladies bathrooms and showers were very clean. The staff was very friendly and the gym was well equipped with a separate part for woman only. This is my new gym! 😊🏋🏻♥️

I love Crunch gym... they offer a lot of different classes for those who like structure as well as an amazing assortment of machines when you want to do your own thing. Long hours .. tanning beds... and accommodate a wide range of age groups... plenty of different prices for different programs ...there is even a Silver Sneakers program which gives seniors a break and an elevator in case stairs are a challenge.
And for the ladies... you can use the machines on the main floor OR go upstairs and use the Ladies Gym for a little more privacy.
It's easy to find Crunch... it's at the top of the hill next to El Rodeo at Cave Spring Corners.

By far one of the WORST gyms in roanoke.

Me and my husband signed up on Feb 23rd. Due to our schedules conflicting we have only been able to go maybe 3 times. We haven’t even made our first months payment.

I call and ask what we need to do to cancel, she said just bring in a LETTER or mail a LETTER date & sign it. We bring two letters in date and signed to cancel, she takes my KEY TAG and says after the payment comes out on the 23rd it will cancel and she will have billing contact us.

When we signed up she never told us the policy for 1 year contract- apparently you can’t cancel no matter what!!! They never told us this, Jenifer and a new guy GUS signed us up, and when we walked in she asked him if he wanted to give us a tour- he rolled his eyes and said sure. By far the worst customer service at a gym, apparently Jenifer is “her best employee and has been there for 10 + years “ well clearly she doesn’t know the rules because she told us we could cancel and now they’re saying we can’t cancel and that there is no record we brought our letters in and that they don’t have my KEY TAG- saying she will pull the cameras- basically calling me a LIAR. I am very very very dissatisfied and disappointed!!!!!! WORST GYM AND WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE AND THE OWNERS SUCK.
Not to mention- it’s always so busy there isn’t enough equipment and you have to wait forever to workout!!! Save your money and time and don’t go here!!!!!!

This is a great gym. Good hours, fun classes, pretty clean for a place with so much traffic. Shane and Patsy are awesome, the rest of the staff is friendly. LOVE. I cannot express how much I love the women’s only section of the gym. I feel so comfortable working out now and the equipment is great. They have equipment for anything you could imagine, I mean seriously, just walking into this place was mesmerizing. The staff is also so energizing and helpful, I love it. The group classes they offer are also amazing and inviting; I can push myself as much as I can, but I also feel comfortable enough to leave when my body has had enough. They don’t pressure you or intimidate you, but they’ll give you the little push you need to better yourself! The locker room and showers are also kept so clean, and the sauna I love as well. The man I spoke to was a little nicer but she is just so rigid. Lighten up. It’s a nice gym but very loud upstairs if just want to tread in peace while the classes are going on with irritating music. Also a little taken aback that she told me I could drop my nephew at 14 and just leave for the day, I guess she’s assuming I’m neglectful, who knows, my nephew is not being dropped at any gym where they hardly crack a smile. This is one of my favorite gyms ever. You need help...they got it! Prices are fair and they have lots of services too. Lots of free weights, plenty of racks, clean and doesn't smell like a locker room either. Got my body scanned and it was crazy all of the stuff i learned about my own body just from one scan!! - no neutral grip bars at all for cables. Literally none
-consistantly uncomfortably hot inside
- cable machines are uneven, some pull harder some are more slack
-the pullies drag so any smooth motion is difficult
-the bars and handles are cheap and have no grip
-leg press machine is awkwardly small and cramped
- there are not enough handles for the cables, there is constantly one cable machine without a handle
- the music is old

Came back after moving away for a couple years on a job, looks like they reevaluated the financial situation with the contract and let bygones be bygones. I have membership at 2 other local gyms and Crunch is by far my favorite. Even when the volume of members is high, it doesn't feel as crowded as the other gyms because of the square footage. This gym offers alot for a very reasonable rate. I recommend the highest tier, it's well worth it. The only thing I wish was different are the hours, I work long nights and by time I'm up on Saturday they're closing. Would be great to have 24/7 access . The staff are extremely helpful and friendly. Happy to be back. :)

Signed up for a 7 day pass with my fiancé and received email confirmation. My fiancé was denied access on the 6th day. I called to inquire as to why he was denied since we were both planning on coming in the 7th day. The woman who answered the phone immediately became argumentative. I was told to call again in the morning to talk to the GM because "she just walked in and didn't know what was going on". She was very aggressive and didn't even try to find a solution, even though she said she was the manager. I told her I didn't understand why she was being so aggressive. She hung up. Clearly the staff is not willing to help customers. My fiancé really liked the weights/equipment and wanted to signup, but at this point not worth the poor customer service.

My husband and I’s experience at Crunch was just...okay. The facility has a decent amount of equipment, but not enough space for people during peak hours. The gym opens at 4pm on weekdays (which was odd) but I believe this is due to Covid-19.

Speaking of Covid-19, the employees wear masks and take temperatures however, NONE of the members wear masks. When you are working out on the main floor it is easy to feel cramped and isn’t the best scenario in a pandemic.

We were looking for a less expensive route, but depending on what plan you get you can end up paying a lot in the enrollment fees. We decided to cancel after 2 weeks of being there. It just wasn’t the right fit for us. One of our memberships was a contract. We figured we would be given some grace sense it was LESS than a month. When we spoke to management they told us you had to cancel within 72 hours of joining. They did not tell us this whenever we had initially joined. It seemed like they made it up on the spot.

This to me is unacceptable. How is anyone going to know if a gym is the right fit for them in just 3 days!?

I absolutely was not made aware of a 1 year contract when I signed up. I specifically asked (I think her name is Judy) if there was a contract, because I wasnt sure if I would be staying in the area and it may be temporary. She told me on multiple occasions there was no contract. So now I have to move and I call to cancel and they tell me I'm in a contract for a year. I'm so beyond upset. The contract was the reason I didnt just go with planet fitness and I especially told her this information. I cannot stand dishonest business practices. UNLESS there is a partner location in just about EVERY city I do not feel a gym should be able to not have a cancellation policy. With this location you just have to pay the remaining months- which is ridiculous for a membership you will not use. Other than that you choose this gym for the classes and the childcare option is nice. Cleanliness could use improvement, but daytime staff is good, nighttime not so much.

I went to train here for a day after being years since i have trained here. Back then it was Golds Gym and i must admit i was sad to see the name change but i will be honest this gym does have very nice equipment very clean and friendly staff. from a lifting prospective the bench press is very nice and straight the machines are nice blue shiny look the grips on them are a little thick but overall very effective. I did not see any free wight shoulder presses that i like to see but plenty of stuff to get those shoulders going i suppose. Lots of great squat racks and nice wood dead lifting platforms. As i myself focus mostly on power lifting movements this gym has what i need. It also has crossfit/Olympic weightlifting area as well. I do use chalk when i lift but i only trained for one day so i can not say if staff would have bothered me on that or not. The bathrooms are very nice or should i say locker rooms very nice and clean a very higher class gym. Membership prices range but are very reasonable for such a nice gym almost like a lifetime fitness feel with the massage chairs and overall cleanliness. Great beautiful gym to train in a beautiful area of the valley.

Love it Nice equipment, Nice staff, equals a great workout. The cross fit area is 💯 and you don’t have to do it you can mix up your routine there. Depending on timing you can access all the machines you need without someone hogging it up. It ain’t all that talking going on folk grind in there 💪🏿💪🏿 Lots of cardio machines a Ab room and even the showers are nice

I like how they recently renovated the entire gym, new equipment and everything. Staffing is not up to par like it should be. Front desk attendants are usually really nice but one in particular does not even stand at the front desk. She sits on the couch on her phone every time I see her. Having to wait for her to actually look up when I want to tan. I signed up with the cheapest membership (with a contract) but wanted to upgrade for tanning which was done (with another contract). I started working at another facility that allowed me to tan for free so I ended up not needing the upgrade but refused to downgrade me saying it was in the contract I couldn’t downgrade. How is it fair I can upgrade but not downgrade even though I want to keep my membership and will give them business for a full year? I’ve asked repeatedly but they said they’ll let me know to get me to stop asking. They said it was in the contract which I can understand they’re following policy but that’s kind of robbery seeing that they never mentioned I was not allowed to downgrade like any other gym. After working at another gym, I realize how dirty everything really is there. The machines have dust and sweat stuck where there shouldn’t be. I pick my phone off the floor with dust and dirt all over it. The water fountains are caked in build up. It’s a decent gym minus cleanliness and customer service.

The location is great, it has a huge parking lot and is pretty close everything in town. The equipment is well maintained, and the locker room is nice and clean.

.I like coming to work out but yesterday, I went to the women's section and the previous equipment has been removed and replaced with old equipment from down stairs. I am so disappointed and frustrated. They need to put the previous equipment back.
