After many years “off” yoga, Flydog has provided a welcoming re-entry to my yoga practice. I have yet to experience a below-average instructor, and the studio vibes are always positive. I love the intensity available in the power classes equally as much as I love the gentler classes. My body and mind are starting to crave flydog!

I wouldn’t consider myself a “yoga person,” but I LOVE FlyDog. I’m a runner, and the best way I’ve found to stay injury-free is consistent yoga. Their heated rooms are perfect, not so hot that I feel nauseous, but warm enough to get a really deep, satisfying stretch. FlyDog is a great place for true yogis and for people who are just starting to explore yoga. Highly recommend!!

We had the best time with Eliza! She led a private party yoga session for our bachelorette party. She was so easy to talk to, very communicative & flexible. She wanted to personalize our experience to make it special for us. I highly recommend her!

Flydog is my favorite yoga studio I've ever been to. And I've been to lots, and used to teach a bit myself. I've been going off and on for close to 10 years. Mostly in the winter. I only take heated (if you're into something more chill) and power (if you're in for a challenge) vinyasa, and I've never had a mediocre instructor. Not pretentious, no annoying "woo". Just a great centering cleanse for the mind and body. Nice facilities, clean, showers & towels available, easy parking. I only wish I had more time to be a regular all year.

I am new to yoga but always look forward to classes at FlyDog! The power classes are challenging but also fun and meditative. Eliza and all the other instructors do a great job at creating a welcoming and inclusive community and are always willing to help or provide tips if you ask! Overall, I have really enjoyed my time here and find a way to work a class or two into my schedule each week!

I highly recommend all of Eliza's power Vinyasa classes. The room is heated and the flow is challenging so get ready to sweat! If you have trouble with a pose she will assist you unless you say otherwise. Its ok to sit out on any poses that are too hard but there are not too many super advanced poses in the all levels classes. I have also booked several private sessions with Eliza to help improve my form. Pricing is fair for what you get. They also have affordable mat and towel rentals if you forget to bring your own. Barre/mix is a great option if you don't have a mat or want to rent one. Their class schedule is predictable and easy to fit in at least one weekly class if you have a full time job.

FlyDog has been such a great part of my life since moving to Charlottesville. The community is so welcoming and supportive, and it’s made settling into a new city and finding balance with school so much easier. I appreciate how kind and encouraging everyone is — especially Eliza, whose assists during class are always super helpful and motivating.

I also love the variety of classes offered. Caroline’s barre and sculpt classes are amazing — they’re challenging in the best way and always fun. The energy she brings to class is contagious, and I always leave feeling stronger and happier.

As someone who was pretty new to yoga and group fitness, I was intimidated at first, but the instructors and community made me feel comfortable right away. Highly recommend!

Been coming to Flydog since 2017. The classes are always restorative both physically and spiritually, and the environment is a welcoming space to connect with myself and my community. The classes can be pricey, but it is the value of their offerings, and I love that they regularly offer pay-what-you-can classes on weekends. Awesome small business, would recommend them any day!

FlyDog has everything you could want in a yoga studio. The staff are all so supportive, welcoming, and adept. Their customer service is above and beyond; they're responsive, very reasonable, and super friendly. They offer a wide range of class offerings on the mat, at the barre, and in the air (!) with aerial yoga. I've tried out every type of class and worked with each of the instructors here, and truly they're all great. Modifications are provided and welcomed, and the environment is really positive and nonjudgmental.

At FlyDog, I have found community, physical and mental strength, and so much more growth than I could've imagined. I started off with the 3 week trial and haven't looked back since!

EDIT: In response to owner’s defamatory reply: Nope, that’s not what happened. I am a lifelong yoga practitioner and kind person. I never raised my voice or was aggressive in any way. I was, however, direct. I asked the teacher very directly why she didn’t enforce the boundaries of the studio. If calm (and very legitimate) feedback is perceived as aggressive, just because it’s coming from a tall man, you might have some reflecting to do. Gaslighting for the sake of your business, rather than reflecting on ways to improve, is exactly why I felt called to leave this review in the first place. Yogis - you will find asana here, but you won’t find growth.

Beware: phones in class are welcomed and condoned, despite a sign on the studio door to the contrary. I asked the teacher to address it before class (3 students texting and on social media, just in the vicinity of my mat). She said she would address it, she didn’t, and when I asked her after class why she didn’t address it, noting that it is her responsibility as a space holder to enforce the boundaries and rules of the studio. I was immediately ganged up on by her, the owner and other members of the studio, getting such responses as, “some people are on call and need their phones” (BS, the guy next to me had phone lighting up all class and didn’t seem concerned to check it), and even “ some people need them for their trauma activation” (WHAT. These screens are a cause of our trauma, not the damn solution), As well as noting that I was from out of town and I “just don’t understand how things work here.” Apparently not.

We booked FlyDog Yoga to come to our AirBnB to do a class for a bachelorette, and it was AWESOME! Our instructor, Lyndsey, adapted the class to match our abilities and energy level. She was willing to do the class outside despite some rain. It was a really memorable experience, and we are so happy we booked our private class with FlyDog!

Buyer beware of their predatory company policies. On top of the amount that you pay for membership and/or class, if you forget to cancel your reservation for a class that you have signed up for, they charge you an additional $15. If you can only cancel within 4 hours of the class start time, they still charge you $10. This is the entire reason I will never be back.

Just completed a 10 pass membership to Fly Dog in Cville. The range of teaching styles, classes, community feel and connection is exceptional. There are good options for class times, easy parking and always a friendly face at the door. I have tried other hot yogas/yoga classes in town and though some were good, Fly Dog classes always leave me with a lasting message and full body feeling that floats me for days. Classes are as challenging as you make them and always detoxifying!

This place not only has a great variety of classes you can take (and keep learning in each time!) but also a great community built within it. I caveat this with the following: I have never tried yoga before and certainly looked awkward while following along. However, I found Fly Dog Yoga to be quite a positive experience. I bought the introductory unlimited month special but only made it a few times due to work travels. In just a few sessions, I realized the value of hot yoga. Eliza has a great personality and really brings more to the experience than just calling out poses. There's a great energy and positive message that she incorporates that really adds something extra in my opinion. I don't think I have sweat that much in years, but I felt fantastic afterwards and feel like everyone should give it a try. Good stuff!

This is an unsolicited review of an amazing place that most definitely does not need my positive review, judging by its steadfast popularity, but I can't help myself. I recently moved to Charlottesville and stumbled upon Flydog after googling power yoga places. The owners, Brad and Eliza, were amazing from day 1 and actually provided childcare for my 3 year old daughter (before we had moved into our house and had childcare arranged) while I practiced yoga. I am relatively new to yoga following a hamstring injury which has curtailed my running habit; however, I am now a convert. For me, there is no better workout for mind and body than their power vinyasa classes. The endorphin release rivals that of any hard cardio workout and is much more sustainable for the body. I am grateful to Flydog for helping me with so many transitions; for me, it has truly been life-changing.

Amy and I have been practicing here for one year and we love this place!

- Great teaching. Eliza and MaryAnn are fantastic teachers. Motivating and funny, they have a great mix of fundamental cues to stave off bad habits while offering more advanced variations for experienced yogis . They have a deep bench of experienced teachers. Questions are encouraged after class with quick demos and asana requests are usually taken.

- Great community. People are friendly and encouraging with a more gender and age diversity than your average yoga studio (even classes for kids, teens, and veterans). Due to it's proximity to UVA it becomes more student heavy during the school year. Partnerships with outside organizations like the Africa Yoga Project keep things fresh and growing.

- Great space. The main room holds up to 48 and has a padded floor that makes falling out of inversions less intimidating and increases the challenge of balance poses. The space is usually heated for Power classes (~85 degrees) and pleasantly warm for others. An additional smaller room is used for arial, acro, and barre options. The sound system is great and the music is more diverse with everything from rock to more meditative.

It's been voted the best yoga studio in Charlottesville for about a million years in a row, so there's obviously lots of people who love this place. The owner, Lizzie, loves what she does, and she seems to genuinely love each and every single customer, too. The people and the vibe is super positive without being annoyingly fake-spiritual and I like that each of the teachers has a slightly different style - it keeps things interesting. Trying a new yoga place (or anything new for that matter) can be intimidating, but you'll arrive feeling welcome and leave feeling refreshed and fantastic (sometimes sore and exhausted, but always fantastic!).
