I arrived at 6:55 AM, checked the website, and it showed the pro shop as open. I walked in, said “good morning,” and the older white man inside immediately started yelling at me to get out because they “weren’t open.” No explanation — just instant hostility.
The way he spoke to me was flat-out racist. His tone, his attitude, and the disrespect were directed at me in a way that I do not believe for one second he would use toward a white golfer. It was clear who he thought didn’t belong there.
I only got the monthly membership to play with my friends, but after experiencing blatant racism on my first morning, I will not be renewing. This course needs to address the behavior they allow from their staff — because this is unacceptable.

What a wonderful course, especially considering it’s a public course with an enormous amount of play.
Right now, mid-October, the course is in the best shape I’ve ever seen it. Since the fairways are Bermuda grass, they do thin out in the winter and grow back in the spring, but they’re still playable, and by the middle of June they’re usually excellent. The greens are always exceptional, and they’ve re-done a number of tees with a different type of grass, and from what I’m told they will redo all of the tees.
There are no houses on the course, and once you tee off, you begin to wind your way back into the woods (especially on the back nine) and it’s a really nice round of golf.

I had the best golf experience today at the course on August 11, 2025. The greens were in mint condition, the fairways looked like they were also greens and bunkers works perfectly. I read some negative comments, but I highly recommend visiting the course again to see the difference. Congratulations to the staff who maintain the course.

Well maintained course and the staff were friendly and helpful. It is a pretty challenging course with mostly uneven, rolling fairways, lots of elevation changes within holes, and a decent amount of blind shots. I hit a ton of shots with the ball above or below my feet.

I don’t see how anyone can complain about the conditions of this track. Fairways were all in pretty good shape aside from one that was under repair. There are some potholes in the cart path but big deal. Only thing I didn’t like were the range mats aren’t very nice. Very hilly so a lot of fun elevation changes. Challenging course but plays fair. Quality of the course is well above the greens fee.

The tee times cost $95 for two 9‑hole rounds. As soon as I paid, I spotted the identical tee times available on GolfNow for just $60. Feeling a bit peeved, I asked for a refund to match the online rate. I know they say they usually do refunds...
But when I asked, the lady at the desk said she’d check with the manager. A few minutes later she came back wearing the smuggest smile, clearly enjoying this little transaction as she relayed: “No, the manager said we can’t refund you.”
💡 Why? Who knows. Literally nothing changed between paying and spotting the cheaper rate—except that now I look like a sucker.
Overall Paid $35 more than necessary, got refused a simple refund with a smirk, and bagged zero goodwill. The course wasn’t terrible in terms of greens or layout, but the entire experience was ruined by how they treated paying customers. Do yourself a favor: book through a discount site, or skip this place altogether—unless you’re a fan of feeling nickel-and-dimed with a smile.

Forest Greens Golf Club (Triangle, VA)
Played: Early morning weekend tee time. Located off I-95, just south of Woodbridge.
1. Course Layout: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ (4/5)
The layout offers a fun and interesting mix, especially on the back nine, which is noticeably more challenging than the front. There are elevation changes, blind tee shots, and creative hole designs—not championship level, but definitely engaging for a budget-friendly course.
2. Course Condition: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ (4/5)
For a course consistently under $100, the conditions are impressive. Fairways and greens are well-maintained, even during the winter months. One of the better-kept budget-friendly public courses in the region.
3. Value for Money: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ (5/5)
Excellent value. Forest Greens continues to be one of the top picks for affordability combined with quality. Great bang for your buck.
4. Clubhouse & Service: ⭐️⭐️⭐️✨ (3.5/5)
The clubhouse is older and service is basic—not bad, just average. Nothing stands out, but it meets expectations for a course in this price range.
5. Pace of Play: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ (4/5)
Weekend rounds can vary, but generally the pace is smooth. Slight delays may happen, but it's usually well managed and not frustrating.
6. Practice Facility: ⭐️⭐️⭐️✨ (3.5/5)
Driving range and putting green are available and decent. No dedicated chipping area, which limits short game practice slightly. Still, a solid offering for a public course.
7. Scenery & Atmosphere: ⭐️⭐️⭐️✨ (3.5/5)
Set among wooded hills, the course has a natural and peaceful vibe. Nothing jaw-dropping, but it’s quiet and pleasant for a relaxing round.
Overall Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ (4.1/5)
Forest Greens Golf Club is a go-to for Northern Virginia golfers looking for a fun layout, reliable course conditions, and unbeatable value. While the clubhouse and facilities are modest, the course itself provides a satisfying and challenging round—especially on the back nine. It’s a consistent performer in the budget-friendly category.

Played 6/19/25. The course installed the "billy bunker" system in their traps so they're very nice now. The fairways are coming in nicely with the warm weather and rain we've had. Greens and tee boxes are always good so good course to play now

Nice course, well maintained. Great service from the staff too. Only recommendation would be to put water coolers throughout the course (at least 1 or 2 per 9 holes). I’ve played almost all courses in DMV and pretty much all of them have coolers out there for their golfers. Hope to be back here playing soon!

Sadly, I have to say that this course is trash at the moment. The day started with a starter to busy chipping and putting to really help groups. The tee boxes look decent, but the fairways and rough are garbage. The bunkers are also decent. The greens are slow and pretty bouncy. The bar is undergoing renovations, so they ask that you bring your own ice. I would say the value right now is about $6 not $60. I love the track and it used to be one of the best courses in "northern VA". Very sad.

Had a great round today with some buddies, however our 3 some and a couple other groups weren’t allowed to finish the 18 holes we paid for and were told to leave even though we paid for 18. Our tee time was at 3:50 and we played the front 9 in 1 hour and 45 minutes. The back 9 took us over 2 hours and when we called the pro shop to ask them to help keep pace of play, no one answered both of the call and left me on voice mail. The course was in great condition and we had a great time but it was very unfortunate to have the starter come out when we were waiting to tee off on 18 and tell us we need to leave and not giving us any refund or reimbursement for our round. When we were driving past 18s green we noticed that there was a group of 6 putting out the round, keeping us from finishing ours. Will definitely be playing this course again but disappointed to say the least.

I have played this course several times and enjoy its layout. Fun holes and lots of hills. The 3 star rating is because yesterday (2/21) the back nine holes were closed. I saw no mention of this on their website nor was there any reduction in cost. If you're going to limit golfers to nine holes twice, you should significantly reduce rates and this should be known in advance of driving (an hour in my case) to the course.

REALLY REALLY nice course! Challenging, Fair, and good distance from the back tees for the Northern Virginia area. This part of Virginia tends to have short-ish courses.
The Clubhouse is small but nice enough. The driving range and putting green are both small but nice enough. I'm personally ok with modest clubhouses and golf carts if that helps keep the greens fees affordable. If you're looking for a country club vibe, this isn't the place...but they don't pretend to be either.
The course was in immaculate shape. If you leave the field of play - you lost your ball. If you try to hit Driver on every hole - you better be accurate or you'll land in a bunker.
The best part was that every hole was memorable. There were no holes that seemed to be leftover land that they threw a flagstick in the middle of. The designers put real effort into this one.
Pace of play was good. We ran into a super slow group at one point (a very odd on-course playing lesson with The Pro, a guy that swung like a 40+ handicap, and a guy that swung like a +2 handicap 🤔). In any event, after 3 holes of watching that freak show, they waived us through.
I will definitely be back! I'm shocked that I haven't heard about this course from more people.

Staff here are phenomenal and always welcoming and are one of the big drivers of coming down from DC to play here.

Played Sunday 5/22... I know these are the going rates these days, but if your course looks like this you can NOT charge $79. Every shot out of the fairway had to be rolled into a usable piece of crabgrass to play off of. What is the greens fee money going into? It most certainly isn't the course.

The most challenging but fair golf course in the Northern Virginia area—beating out Laurel Hills and the Army Navy golf courses! This Billy Casper designed golf course is everything a low handicapper can handle from the Blue or Black tees! You will need a golf cart—and you will see no houses on the course but with some hills quite a challenge to walk; and the greens are already in mid season form! You will need to shape your drives—fades and draws in order to take advantage of the sculpted holes! Love playing this course! And ask about the Modern Membership—the most unbeatable deal in the area; hands down!

It’s a great course... but with two issues. The major one that is always an issue is their carts.. they always die. If you go out after 12 or 1pm there is a 75% your cart will die on you. The second one is the price. 70$ Before 1pm? They are insane. Potomac shores, which is a Jack Nicolas course is 3 miles away and charges the exact same and is 100x nicer. 50$ should be their MAX during prime time here. Idk who chose that 70$ price but I’m sorry the course isn’t worth 70$ to play, it just isn’t. Especially when I can almost guarantee my cart is gonna die. Go spend the same amount of money at Potomac shores and play a course that’s so well kept it looks like a PGA course and is worth the money they’re charging now.

Im going to give them the benefit of the doubt because it rained the night before and its April, but there were a few too many muddy/bare spots for me. Some of the tee boxes were sand heavy. Hoping when i come back (maybe this summer) its in better shape. The course itself/design is pretty nice. Long par 5s and short par 3s. Big fairways. A lot of bunkers around the greens but its not too much.

The course and cart path were in very poor condition with potholes that were flat out dangerous for golf carts. We were just finishing the 17th hole when Tony, the manager, came out and told us we needed to finish and couldn’t play the last hole because of an 8pm cut off time. We were never told about this curfew and when we politely asked if we could just play the last hole, he rudely said that the 4 of us in our group should have been able to finish in 3.5 hours, and he forced us to skip the last hole. The sun was still out and it was only 8:05pm. One of us was playing his best round ever. We paid for 18 holes, were never told about this curfew, and were completely insulted by Tony’s demeanor and attitude.

The course was in great shape. The staff is awesome. Robert took the time to explain why the sand traps were the way they were. Hoping Prince William County puts some money into the budget this spring. This was the only negative for me. Aeration on the front nine.no sand to cover the Greens so it was so bumpy and no sand in the bunkers. Wont be coming back for a long time .

Great course only course I've been to that you hit from the ground to practice your drives and anything else to get a real feeling of playing on the course.

This is a nice course in Prince William County. It is a good price for a course in northern Virginia. The only downfall is that a lot of the fairways are very hard and like hitting off concrete. They often just have crabgrass on them and it is better to hit off the ruff than the fairways.

I like the layout. The Bermuda grass couldn't thrive this year because of the unusual rainy summer.

My wife plays this course regularly, I rarely play golf (2-3 times a year) but I really like this course. It is a good mix of challenging and easier holes. You'll be driving from above and below greens, into forgiving fairways. Fun Par 3s, too.
And sand traps. And water hazards. And bunkers. I spend a lot time in these.
The staff are honestly friendly, on top of being polite and professional.
