I trained in ITF Taekwondo for 8 years prior to coming to this school and took some time off after I had my kiddos. Once they were old enough to train I found Franklin’s Taekwondo. At first I wasn’t sure of what kind of climate this school had. All I can say is I wish I would have joined this school sooner! It’s good for any kid. Now my 7 year old thinks he is a leader of everything!!! and can be quite impulsive.. Mr Franklin and all of his instructors are simply thebest. Thea are knowledgeable, relatable and pleasant. Mr. Franklin adjusts his teaching style to fit the specific student and their needs. He is always happy to see you, always encouraging yet gives honest constructive feedback. My kids will be better humans because of the time they train with Mr. Franklin. To me it’s not just a school. To me and my kiddos it’s a Taekwondo family!!

Class was very professional, masks required, participants were socially distant, the instructors started the class on time finished on time. The class was well paced, and very instructive. Great activity to get out, get healthy, and burn energy.

My husband recently began taking classes along with my teenage son. I think it’s a great outlet for both of them. Good exercise and some social interaction. Mr Franklin has a good vibe and great energy. Love that my husband’s classes are included in my son’s tuition. I especially love that they can participate in as many classes as they want to every week. Highly recommend!

Our 4 year old daughter attended Franklin’s TKD and absolutely loved it. Although she also did ballet and soccer, TKD soon became her favorite and she would not miss a single class. She is gentle and soft spoken, but TKD gave her confidence and sense of power (she still talks about being able to break a wooden board:-). Mr. Franklin is also terrific with kids—funny but firm when needed. We recently moved out-of-state and are still searching for a TKD place that is as warm and welcoming as Franklin’s.
(For those wondering, we also tried a different TKD place in Blacksburg, but It was quite overcrowded and not nearly as good as Franklin’s).

Bradyn has been attending Franklins Taekwondo for a year now and we are very pleased with their program and staff. The staff are fantastic teachers and relate to the kids in a perfect manner. We couldn’t be more pleased with their establishment. We would and have referred friends to their programs as well.

Mr Franklin has an amazing gift of connecting with kids......he ensures a fun, safe, active, respectful class where all kids learn and enjoy. When my quiet shy uncompetitive daughter asked to take Tae Kwon Do I wasn’t sure how even a trial class would go. Now, 4 belt levels into it she is just as excited as the first day - I contribute a lot of her enthusiasm to Mr Franklin’s endless patience and fun classes.

My daughter loves coming to classes here. She has learned discipline, respect, and confidence in the year we have been coming. Mr Franklin is very patient with the kids and shows them why the moves they are learning matter in real life situations. I especially like the variety of classes, the varied time slots to fit our schedule, and the ability to do unlimited classes for the same fee. We have been very happy coming here and would reccommend to anyone!

I've truly enjoyed my time (2.5 years) training and learning taekwondo with Mr. Franklin and his instructors. Classes are fun for both kids and adults, and taekwondo offers a full workout with cardio, strength, and stretching. Each individual student is encouraged to challenge themselves, while training with the support of knowledgeable, helpful instructors. While respect and discipline are part of taekwondo, they are encouraged in a supportive, community atmosphere. Definitely give taekwondo a try, and Mr. Franklin's school is the right mix of fun, discipline, and fitness!

Mr. Franklin and the rest of the instructors provide a welcoming, family-type atmosphere. Our entire family has been participating at Franklin's for over 3 years and have had nothing but positive experiences. As a parent, and as a Taekwondo student, I have been 100% pleased with Franklin's TKD and encourage anyone interested in learning it to come in and try it out!

My kids have had a great experience at Franklin's Tae Kwon Do - the lead teacher has a great aptitude and attitude towards teaching, and keeps the classes safe, fun, and progressing. He also does a great job with teaching his junior/assistant instructors. My kids have been at it for almost a year, and they have progressed to orange belt, and I can really see they are getting better and stronger.

Mr. Tonete and his staff provide a supportive environment for students of all ages and abilities to thrive. Students learn respect and discipline with each class. My son and I have been attending 2-3 classes a week for about a month and it's been a great experience. The instructors are respectful and knowledgeable. There are students of all ages, race, genders, and sizes, and as far as I can tell, everyone is treated with respect, regardless of their physical characteristics. If you're looking for a martial arts studio in the NRV, give Tonete's a try. I think you'll be happy!

Tonete's Taekwondo is a wonderful school. My son started here last spring and his progress has amazed me at times. The instructors are very encouraging and seem to know just the right amount to "push" the students. Tonete's is organized and good at communicating with parents regarding upcoming events, concerns, etc. I highly recommend giving them a try.

Tonete’s Taekwondo school is a place where once you come, never regret. You will receive more than you expect. Let me explain in details.
1. This is a High quality Taekwondo school ----My 7-year-old boy started his Taekwondo life at age 4. Honestly speaking, he is NOT born to be athletic or competitive at all. That is the reason why we sent him to learn Taekwondo. We hope this sport can remedy the weakness of his personality. We have tried two more other Martial Art schools. Only in Tonete’s Taekwondo, we see high quality instructor team lead by the chief instructor Mr. Tonete. They care about every student; they themselves demonstrate responsibility, hard-working, perseverance, strict with practicing, encouragement, respect with each other and more. Those are exactly what I want my boy to have all through his life. Though I thought it’s ok for my boy to be the worse student in this school due to his personality. To my surprise, he got a Bronze metal in the last tournament he attended, and became one of the 50/52 students from Tonete’s Taekwondo school placed in that Tournament!!
Also, this school is well organized, well communicated, care about everybody’s input, and more trustworthy features.
2. This is a loving, supportive and happy family---you see greetings and sincere smiles from everybody in the school, especially the chief instructor, no matter you are inside the room or outside the window.
Not only your children, but also all your family members are welcome to involve in this family. They offered free class for all family members; free whole month classes for all moms at the month of mother’s day; free whole month classes for all dads at the month of father’s day; free whole week classes for all your children’s buddies once in a while and so on. All my family and friends who tried have enjoyed it.
They provide activities such as “Back to school challenge” that encourages your children to improve themselves in many ways in their life. You are cared and supportive not only inside but also outside the school.
Although my boy is not a Taekwondo star, we will still love to stay in this family. We are getting much more than we expected. We feel so blessed to have such a wonderful Taekwondo school like this in this area.

Tonete's Taekwondo America is a superior martial arts school in the New River Valley. The school's owner and Chief Instructor, Mr. Frederico Tonete, a Fourth Degree Black Belt, is a natural-born teacher. His style of explanation is clear and concise, and his manner is at once friendly and professional. He is a student-centered instructor who embodies the values expressed in the tenets of TKD. The school offers classes for all ages and abilities, and the atmosphere is welcoming and challenging at the same time.
Our son, 11, has been practicing Taekwondo for 6 years, and has earned his Second Degree Black Belt under Mr. Tonete, and recently with Mr. Tonete's encouragement, became a Certified Level One Instructor. Our son has gained confidence, skill, and poise through the practice of Taekwondo.
If your family has been considering martial arts, do yourself a favor and stop in to check out Tonete's Taekwondo America!

My seven-year-old son has been taking taekwondo at Tonete's for about 10 months, and he loves it. I'd had no previous experience with martial arts, and was unsure whether this was a good idea for my son--mostly because of my own ignorance. I was concerned that giving him an outlet for physical fighting would make him more prone to hurting other kids at school, etc., because he tends to be a pretty physical kid in the base case. What has actually happened, though, is the opposite! I've watched him blossom under the leadership of the instructors at Tonete's, from a child who couldn't do a push-up a year ago, to one who not only does better push-ups than me, but is also learning discipline, self-confidence, and respect in a structured environment that keeps him motivated. He's still a physical kid outside of taekwondo, but I've noticed that he has better self-control than he had a year ago, and is much more careful than he used to be to not hurt other kids. The instructors (Mr. Tonete especially) are excellent teachers, and maintain a positive atmosphere without compromising (i.e., lowering) their expectations of the students. Overall, this has been an incredibly positive, rewarding experience for my son, and I'd highly recommend this school to anyone who's considering taekwondo for themselves or their family.

As an adult that has never done martial arts, I was nervous about my ability to learn, develop, and keep up in taekwondo. However, I have had a wonderful experience and have found that the instructors cater to my learning style, skill and pace. The classes are great motivators for exercising as they provide excellent structure as well as attainable goals (belts, tournaments, personal health, meeting new people, etc.). The various class times are also conducive to my hectic schedule. Lastly, but not least, I feel more confident in my ability to protect/defend myself as a female---something that I think all women should be able to say.

My two sons and I joined Tonete's Taekwondo right when it started and we have loved it ever since. The classes, the physical training, the technique, the forms, the sparring, all come together in the most intense, energetic, and professional way, and not to mention the friendly environment that we live in the class. Mr. Tonete has really brought Taekwondo in the region to a hole new level. We're so pleased and excited about being part of this organization. Thank you.

I have 3 children that began Tonete's Taekwondo about a year ago. The children include a daughter age 11, and boy/girl 7 year old twins. They all love Mr Tonete's classes because they are challenging as well as fun! The Taekwondo program is goal driven (students are challenged to progress through a series of belt colors) and this provides students an incentive to continually work for the next belt level. Taekwondo provides my children with structure, discipline and mutual respect. I am always amazed at how Mr. Tonete can bring out the best in each of my children!

My sons, ages 7 and 9, have attended Tonete's Taekwondo, for almost a year now and its been a pleasure to see how each have progressed under the guidance of Mr. Tonete and his staff. The classes have helped both boys to focus on their body movement and athletic coordination. The classes offer a healthy mixture of fun and discipline. As each child has progressed, I know they are proud to see and know how far they really have come.

Tonete's Taekwondo is an excellent taekwondo school that focuses on building up confidence from the inside out. The chief instructor is patient and caring and yet expects excellence from his students. The best part about that is that the students want to give their all for him. They respect their instructor and the school. Tonete's Taekwondo is part of Taekwondo America. Having a set of standards that are followed across so many schools helps in consistency and learning within the organization. This also provides the opportunity for tournaments where students can compete with other schools across the country.
I love that this school is focused on respecting others. The students and instructors alike are kind to each other and caring. Finding a school with these quality traits was important to our family. We now have 3 black belts who have been a part of Taekwondo America since starting as white belts and have been with Mr. Tonete since he opened this school in Blacksburg. I can't imagine them going anywhere else. They love their school and the students whom they refer to as close friends. It is an inviting atmosphere for all.

Tonete's Taekwondo has been an excellent opportunity for both my son (12) and daughter (7) to learn in a caring environment while being encouraged to discover their own determination and develop new skills. Mr. Tonete cares about each student as evidenced by his willingness to give individual attention to each one throughout the class periods. His instructors care just as much and he is actively developing new instructors from the ranks of his most accomplished students.
