Course was fun and in good shape. All the details were off though. Cart girl at 10 am was out of everything, didn’t know anything and took 10 minutes to ring up a snickers, Gatorade and a bloody. Food is served from one kiosk and the guy in there was somehow worse in terms of efficiency and timing; took more than ten minutes to grab two hot dogs a Gatorade and a sandwich. If you doubt that is possible, I promise you he somehow made it that way from not knowing how to open a fridge or find a drink or use the iPad to ring me up. When the Marshalls are hounding you about pace it sucks to have incompetent employees suck even more fun out of your day. I would play these courses again but these experiences stuck out. Green Course is in rougher shape and the golf carts are all on their last legs. Cart paths are in very bad shape.

We stayed at the Griffin and i took advantage of the complimentary golf clinic.
Jeff the instructor was amazing. He helped correct my grip/stance and thus improved my swing. Now am way more confident hitting the links.

Were here August 29, 2025. Beautiful course, challenging love the elevations. Sand traps were like powder. Staff treated us great and were impeccable. Definitely Above Parr 😊⛳
On down side, greens were a little rough considering what we paid. But maybe it was an off week.

Stopped by the grill at Golden Horseshoe golf club while touring Williamsburg. The host was great providing us with a table of seven, four adults and three girls 9-15. Are server Kevin was very accommodating and the other staff kept our drink filled. We had a variety of food all came to the table hot and fresh. The smoke meat offerings were very tasty. The burgers are handmade are were also good. The chicken teriyaki was very flavorful. Overall a great lunchtime dining experience. If you are looking for an option outside the Williamsburg dining experiences l would recommend Golden Horseshoe grill ask for Kevin he is the best. The view of golf course is amazing.

The Gold Course at Golden Horseshoe Golf Club is an amazing public course in colonial Williamsburg that is a must play. The course is among the top courses in the state of Virginia and is perennially ranked among the top 100 public courses in the nation. The conditions were amazing and the staff were extremely friendly and welcoming and made for a great experience. The course is tight and places a premium on accuracy and is among the more challenging layouts I’ve ever played.

My family had the opportunity to have lunch at the upstairs restaurant. To say the staff was amazing would almost do them a disservice. This team worked flawlessly to attend to our every need with a genuine smile and sincere concern that they were helping to make our experience an absolute pleasure. There were 14 of us in all with 5 under the age of 12.

First off, the cart path at this place is like riding a bucking bronco. You’d think a place that charges $200 per round could afford to repair their paths. The carts have obviously seen extreme wear and tear because of these paths, because they are also in nowhere near the shape you’d expect for that price. I would not play this course again for that reason alone.

That said, the fairways, tee boxes and bunkers were all in very good shape. The greens are freshly punched, so hard to tell what shape they’re in. The layout is extremely hilly, and flat fairway lies are few and far between.

The clubhouse was gorgeous and would be a great place for an afternoon cocktail, regardless if you played golf.

It's a really cool lay out, some very signature'esq holes. However the holes are spaced one of the other in man locations and was ducking for cover all day. The greens and tee boxes kinda nicked up and the rough was pretty thread bare. For the middle of may in VA Beach area it could have been more lush. There were a lot of pine cones and pine needles everywhere, loose leaves.... for 171$ for a weekday round and it's #60 rating on best public courses in America on golf digest, I really expected a lot more. Like I said, there were 6 really beautiful holes.... but for 171$ it was not worth the money and the travel. If I lived in close proximity to it, I'd play it a hand full of times a year, however, I would not go out of my way again for the experience.

A group of us played Golden Horseshoe Green course Friday. As always the course was in great shape. However I am very disappointed about what I experienced after the round. We finished about 4:15. I decided to go to the bar for a coke. No one was there. I asked the clerk at the pro shop. He did not apologize but merely shrugged his shoulders and said "she" wasn't selling anything so she left at 3:30....???? I thought...where am I...some low rent public course? No, I'm at a premiere high end golf course in Williamsburg...but no one at the bar to serve customers at the end of their round? Very disappointed to say the least. I'll bring my own refreshments next time.

Location is awesome, close to many things. The golf at the Green and Gold courses is excellent, with Gold getting the win by a nose. But the real hidden gem is the food at the Gold course clubhouse. Barbecue done on sight using an actual smoker and a very talented master griller!! Best barbeque I even had, don't miss the opportunity to eat here. Cheers

If you have the opportunity, this is a must-play course in Virginia. For me, this was the VSGA’s ‘24 season opener, and it didn’t disappoint. I’ll definitely be back when the conditions are ideal, but despite the understandable “cart path only” conditions, the course was very playable, and in great shape. The two refreshment stations were very timely, the carts with GPS and the contours of the greens were great, and everyone from the check-in team to the on-course folks, to the pro shop were all very welcoming and proud of the wonderful course experience they’ve been a part of creating. Again, this is a must-play course, and I look forward to enjoying it again soon!

The course was immaculate. The staff was fantastic with ONE exception. The marshall on duty was rude and wrong. He told us that we needed to speed up play because "everyone is complaining". I looked back several occasions and there was no one behind us. After he spoke to us we were then held up on multiple tee boxes.

Two observations: 1. Assuming he was correct in that we were backing up the course (again, which was not the situation) there is a good way and a bad way to speak to people. He chase the bad way. He needs a few lessons in courtesy. 2. Get your facts straight prior to inaccurate accusations.

Unfortunately, his interactions created a serious negative vib on today's outing.

Perhaps he is new or is under a tremendous amount of pressure. This is an opportunity to "right the ship".

Made the trip down from NY and I am certainly glad I did. Played the green course in the morning and the gold in the afternoon. Green course is much easier but very fun to play. The gold course is friggin amazing! I had heard people say its the closest thing you can get to a public Augusta and I totally agree. From the conditions to the look and feel, it reminds me of the Masters track so much. You will be hard pressed to find a better set of par 3's. I can't wait to come back!!

Ranked high on Golf Digest's top public courses and for good reason. Facilities were immaculate with free range balls, perfect practice green, and a classy locker room and Proshop. The balance between challenge and fun at this course is appropriate. Frankly put, I am not the best at golf, but I was still able to get the ball close to the green within two or three shots every hole. The par 3's here are the real hallmark but the par 4's are fun with slight doglegs and shapes; however, a few of the par 4's feel like they're the same. The staff was fantastic! A bunch of old guys that could hype up the place for hours. Furthermore, the whole Colonial Williamsburg vibe was great, and the course incorporated it well. Only downside was that the holes are very close together so you have to be on alert at times as I had to yell Fore a few times out there.

Beware, there are issues with stealing at the course so protect your valuables. My wallet was stolen right out of my valuables pocket on the driving range and cars have been broken into during the middle of the day. Apparently, this is a known issue at the course, but the pro shop did not let me know until I came back to them with a police report.

The gold course was in decent shape for it being the middle of January. 16 and 17 are two of the coolest holes that I have played, but probably not worth $100 for an off-season round.

Golf course is impeccable. Greens are some of the best I've played. Wonderful layout. No morning food so eat first. No coffee either. Only at the 3rd hole bungalow. Good hot dog terrible coffee when you finally get to it. The course record is 67 and held by Jack Nicklaus. From the tips it's not as long on paper as it is played do to the hills. Those same hills allow the course to play quite short from the blue or white tees.

Great golf, but a pricey outing. Beware there are no cart girls. Plan to stop before and during your round for any liquid refreshment. The course is challenging at every level. Played the gold course. It was honestly as close to a private/professional course feel as I could hope to experience. Something that any golf enthusiast should experience at least once. The course is kept in immaculate condition and the staff and practice facilities are great. My only semi complaint would be that the driving range is a bit short (250 max) so I was a bit stiff when it came time to pull the driver out on the course.

This is a really terrific fun course. The only reason I'm not giving it 5 stars is because the course was soaking wet from - apparently - a long run of rainy weather. But even with that, the greens remain in excellent condition and the course layout and a few signature-like holes make it a must play if you're in the area. I'd love to play it when it's dry. The challenge must be even more fun. By the way, the staff were all uniformly friendly and helpful! Highly recommended. 👍👍

We golfed at the green course today (first time at course). First off I would like to say the carts were dirty and not clean. Second, the condition of the course compared with the price was totally redicious. Third, food at the 13th hole on course snack bar was extremely high prices and horrible. And last other golfers on the course were very rude, if I go golf there again and run into rude golfers i will shoot my tee shot at them. I will not be attending that place again.

Course was in phenomenal shape after a dry week. Incredible piece of property. However the pace of play was atrocious. Tee’d off at 2:10 and didn’t get done until 6:45. Waiting on the tee for the last 12 holes for about 5-10 minutes a piece. I will be coming back in the summer when it’s plush and all green.

We visited this course recently for a golf outing. Upon arrival, the staff waiting outside was friendly; however, the golf desk was unfriendly and unhelpful. Proceeding to the course, the layout was very confusing and very wet making play very difficult and laborious. Finally, after playing in steady rain from the 5th hole on, we had to stop at the 13th hole due to a torrential downpour. When asked for a potential 9 hole range check, the golf desk simply said no and was once again, extremely unhelpful. We would not recommend the golf course and will not be returning.

Absolutely a wonderful pair of golf courses, and the par 3 track is underrated. The main clubhouse is right in the middle of town and you will here some cannon fire from Colonial Williamsburg every now and then on the Gold and Spotswood Courses. The clubhouse is on the small side but has been updated recently.

The Gold Course is the absolute gem, one of the best courses in Virginia. Tough off the tee but so much fun throughout. Designed by Robert Trent Jones, Sr. and very recently renovated by Rees Jones. The par 3s really stand out, each one could easily be one of the best par 3s on any world class track, but I haven't experience a better set of par 3s in the world. My fifth favorite hole is the par 5 2nd. It can be a two shot hole, but water surrounds the green. And the view after you hit your drive is spectacular. Otherwise I think every hole is memorable and tough. It's definitely tight off the tee on the Gold Course. The renovation has really improved everything. I definitely understand some complaints, especially early in 2019 when the new turf had not settled and taken yet. But the greens and fairways were perfect and I played in late November. The course also drains pretty well too.

The Green Course is a little underrated in my opinion. I played here several years ago and really enjoyed it. Solid course all around in good condition and a great driving range. It's also not as busy as the Gold Course so it was easy for me to get around for a couple of loops. The Spotswood Course is a small, par 3 track that is tough at times but a lot of fun. Usually it's included in any stay and play package.

Played the Gold and Green courses and every hole is a challenge. The greens are well-maintained and the courses are beautiful. I always enjoy playing #16 on the Gold Course. The par 3 down to the island is picturesque. Spotswood is a great course to practice your medium to short range game but the greens and bunkers usually need a little TLC. Such a wonderful layout but the condition of the course is terrible. Greens look like a patchwork quilt and almost impossible to putt. I have wanted to play this course for years but felt cheated with having to pay well over $100 to play a course in the condition of a muni.

First-rate facilities and a picturesque course that’s always challenging but not ridiculously difficult. Friendly and helpful staff gave us a warm welcome even though we’re not members. A little pricey for us but worth it once in a while. We saw lots of wild turkeys and woodchucks.

This course is absolutely stunning. Everyone there is extremely nice and accommodating. The course Marshall runs the course well and keeps things moving. I despise slow play and he is TOP NOTCH. Other than the guy on the first tee asking for a registered handicap when I told him I was playing from the back(maybe he was kidding). I'll be back

If playing the Spotswood Course, you better be an expert navigator because the thing is barely marked. Course itself is OK if you can find your way to the next hole.
