Love my Gold’s Gym experience! Ana was super helpful and friendly. The equipment is great, but the space could really shine with some fresh paint (white/gray/black) to match the gold signage. Remove that red/burgundy color. It’s not doing them any justice.

Women’s bathroom lighting could also be updated. Their Bailey’s Crossroads location nails the aesthetics - hope this one gets a similar upgrade!

This gym is dirty and in need of repair. Both the facility and equipment. I was a member for years but I left to join another gym a year ago because it was in bad shape and the manager said "we're next on the list for renovations," but couldn't tell me when. I just now went back and it looked the same. The girl at the front desk was far from helpful and said "they're supposed to take measurements..." but there are other gyms in the area too. She said no one was around to talk to me about memberships or the status of repair, and couldn't tell me when they would be, but that I could look online for rates. I asked for a manager to call me and she said there was no one to call me. So I left. Maybe I'll check back in another year or two.

This place is a disgrace. Front Desk Manager is a sorry excuse. I went INSIDE to update my exp date on my card, she didn’t put it in correctly, then declined my card the next day and said I was never there when I called to get the $25 fee removed. Here’s the proof I was there since my husband standing right beside me at the desk was not enough to make her “remember”. Been a member for almost 11 years and I’ve put up with a lot at this sad gym because it’s convenient. But I draw the line at calling me a liar. MEMBERSHIPS CANCELLED.

I love this place.. Sadly i have to leave because management is literally letting it die slowly. All Dumbells have been damaged for over 2 years. Some of the gym-goers act like straight up apes, banging and tossing weights they have no business trying to lift.

I've been lifting for years, I'm a decently strong guy with a 350+ bench, the way I've seen people in this gym behave is nothing like I've ever seen. Ought to have a gym etiquette class for people who don't know how to behave themselves. Two goofballs decided it would be a good idea to start punching each other in the middle of the gym, only after 10 seconds or so did I finally step in and say something. The culture is abysmal, and the power has gone out at least 3 times in 4 weeks, including A/C.

Avoid if you can, bring loud headphones and a rosary if you can't.

Mostly clean facility with well maintained equipment. They've recently put extra effort into fixing most everything in the locker room as well. Reason for only 4-stars is they lose hot water about every 3-4 months, they don't let you know when you enter, and it's usually out for a week which is very inconvenient when you stop at the gym on the way to work.

I just finished my 18 month membership with this gym. I was pretty disappointed all the way around. Many of the weights were in terrible condition. So many of the treadmills were broken on a continual basis. There were front desk employees on their phones and wouldn't even look up at you to say hi when you came in (mainly during the week). The aircon was not working a lot of the time, so it was just humid and hot. Women's locker room was never really clean. The pin loaded machines were not well maintained. I could see damage on the cables of several of the machines due to lack of maintenance.

Great friendly staff but the gym has been neglected for years and no sight of improvement anytime soon. Missing and damaged dumbbells are never replaced and 1960's style equipment is forever to stay. Old machines aren't bad, they just need to be maintained.

Been coming here for over a month now & it’s been great. I go at night, usually from 9pm to 11pm. There’s always cardio machines open at that time and the squat racks are usually open too, which is the main reason I go. Front desk is always attentive, but I don’t see much other staff at that time. Machines are well kept, crowd minds their business, and it’s spacious for whatever fitness journey your on.

This gym is pretty bad. Out of the 4 stairmasters they have, 2 haven't been working since the January of 2025 (writing this review in April 2025). The 'estimated fix date' on them still says January. About 30% of the treadmills don't work. The 20 LB, 25 LB, and 30 LB dumbbells have been rusted/chewed up for over a year and a half, which are arguably the most common dumbbells. Fix the equipment.

Absolutely love this place! I've been going to this gym practically everyday for 19 months now and I go so much that it's like a second home to me. I love the layout and spaciousness of it and they have all the equipment that you'd ever need - without having to jam as much equipment as they can into every square inch of the place (which a lot of golds gym locations do to the point of redundancy). It really has that old school gym charm that I really love. The staff and owner are extremely friendly and help me out with any assistance or requests I may have. I often wonder if they ever get tired of me 😅

Annandale Golds is a great neighborhood gym. The cliental is very diverse in age, ethnicity, weight, and fitness level. You are not intimidated to start working out. It's one of the older gyms of the Gold's system but it's clean and the equipment works well. Start your exercise program today!

Not a bad facility, but also not the prettiest. Definitely lacking in aesthetics and a number of free weights and equipment look run down but work fine. Lack of bottle filter water fountain is perplexing given it's a must at most gyms. Classes are good though.

I've been a gold class member here for about two months, and thankfully I have been more motivated than in the past. It works for me because they are located on my route to work, so I'm able to hop over here before work. They open at 5am which is very convenient in that regard. I rolled in this morning on this extended holiday weekend, and there was barely a soul in the gym. This isn't usually the case, but I didn't mind. I typically stick with the stair master machine and several of the chest and abdominal workout machines. My body appreciates it! Also, I've never had a wait issue, and 9 times out of 10 I'm able to hop right onto the machine that I need

UPDATE 5/24/24 - Literally zero updates and renovations to this gym in almost 20 years. Unbelievable. You keep hearing about the owners opening new gyms in the area, but they seem to care less about this gym and the members here. I've downgraded my rating to one star. I'll be speaking to the new manager (a good guy btw but obviously can't do anything to improve the gym due to the owners who seem to know little about running a business and customer service), about reducing me and my wife's monthly rate. Again, the only reason I stay here is because of the friends, staff and closeness to my home.

UPDATE 4/17/23 - still no equipment upgrades, no new paint on the walls. Only increased rates. The only reason I still go here is 1) I love the people who work here and workout here, and 2) it's close to my house. If there was a better gym very close to this one with better, upgraded equipment and overall facilities, I would switch to that gym and I'm guessing 80% of the current members would as well.

Do the owners even read these reviews? Do they know what customer service is? unbelievable.

UPDATE 6/15/22 - This gym has gone down hill fast. The facilities are old and run down. Increased rates with nothing to show for it. Insufficient A/C. They haven't painted place in probably 15 years. It seems that the owners take no pride in the gym. Just awful.

I've been going to the Annandale location for over 15 years now. The Manager, Brian, has done a fantastic job in running this gym. Wonderful people working there.

The only downside of this location is the free weight equipment. It's generally old, outdated and very limited.

I have been a member of Golds Annandale for the last 8 months. I work out 4-6 times per week. Frankly I think it is a great facility! The equipment is varied so whether you are a hard core or recreational lifter there is plenty of quality to go around and the equipment is well maintained. The staff is friendly and helpful but I find the most attractive aspect of the facility is its members. I have trained with and around members both young and old and from my point of view my fellow members give the facility a very positive “vibe”. The only downside is that the piped in music that may be very much in vogue but does nothing to motivate. In spite of that single “ wrinkle” I think of Golds Annandale as my “ happy place” as corny as that sounds. Dave M. Annandale

This gym is ATROCIOUS! The sauna has been out of service for 4 months and there seems to be no effort to fix it. Also half of the dumbbells are damaged. It's borderline neglect and corruption. It shouldn't take 4 months to fix a sauna. As stated, the freaking sauna has been broken since October. Members do NOT get a pass because I have been in there several times when they dump water on the electrical unit. This is what screws it up, however this is not the old "Iron Block," there has to be a unit somewhere. Get a new one. Also, why did GOLDS build a new gym on Columbia Pike but NOT put in a sauna? I tried the one over on Gallows Rd too, it is large and does not get that hot. I was in there over 30 minutes before I worked up a sweat. So many other gym options, I wonder why I keep renewing?

Let me begin by saying I had a good experience at this gym when I was regular member here 10 years ago. It was my local gym before I moved out of my parent's house.

That said, my most recent experience as a visitor was/is disappointing and I want to advise other visitors to avoid this gym. I dropped by to ask about my options to use the gym for a week while I am in town and bought a week pass for $60. I wasn't given a tour (perhaps because I came here years ago and that showed up on the screen) and I wasn't told the pass wasn't refundable. Granted, I should've asked more questions myself and I will moving forward. My family decided to take a trip to FL while I am in town so I dropped by today to ask for a refund and pay what I owe for the days I visited. We leave tomorrow morning and won't be back until Wednesday. I fly back to New England early next Friday morning. I was told they couldn't give me a refund and just charge me for the days I visited. I asked if I could have the contact info for management but I was told no. The lady at the desk said she could make a call instead. After she was off the phone, she said the pass wasn't refundable. I was frustrated but thanked her for her time. I guess they are more worried about keeping any money made than their customer service. In this case, they rather charge me for a service I will not be able to use and that speaks volumes about the culture. As mentioned earlier, I should've done better research too but communication and compromise takes two parties and I honestly didn't feel anyone at the gym cared to offer any fair solutions.
I understand some goods and services are not refundable but I also have met and worked with business owners who are more understanding and human first.

Actual equipment review-
The gym and equipment looks worse than it did when I was a member here 10 years ago. The weights are outdated as is a lot of the equipment (benches and other machines).
The paint on all the walls is old and and the gym doesn't seem to have been swept in a while. I was trying to workout and kept finding dust bunnies near the weights I wanted to use or on stuck on my sneakers. I am surprised the weekly pass was $60 given the state of the facilities and the gym. I am not a fan of Planet Fitness but I have to admit management there seems to care more about the appearance and cleanliness of their gym.

Bottom line -
I don't normally leave reviews but I hope I can help others avoid this gym and make a better investment when it comes to their health/fitness.
If you are looking for a gym to visit or join long term, I would strongly suggest to keep looking. There are other gyms that are cleaner and not as outdated or at least more fair for the price you pay. I, myself, wish I had read the recent reviews before I walked in.

Worst Gym culture ever. I switch between multiple gyms and go to this gym almost everyday few days or so. I get approached by people EVERY SINGLE TIME. It started with the personal trainer who wouldn’t leave me alone until I agreed to sign up for a session then he wouldn’t stop texting me even after I said I was all set with training. This gym cultivates a toxic gym environment where any guy feels like they have the audacity to go up to any female. There’s one or two great workers here but other than that it’s been frustrating when I try to workout and get approached EVERYTIME. I go to multiple gyms and this has not happened anywhere else.

Have come here on and off throughout the years, stretching back almost a decade.

While I did not re-join this go round, I am considering it because I will need to be in the area about 10 days a month to assist my parents.

The place is still fully equipped, with high ceilings and lots of hardware, a huge studio and even a boxing studio which has one of the best hung and free swinging heavy bag I've ever hit.

However, it's also clearly in need of some love from top to bottom. Everything higher than about 6ft is absolutely covered in dust and the standard "film" that tends to build up in nightclubs, gyms, retail spaces and basically anywhere with a lot of humidity. (Its most visible from the row elevated cardio machines to left upon entering the facility )

Anyways, I'm sure it's due for an update and deep clean very soon.

I am pleased to say that the prices are still better than other major gym franchises in the area, and that this particular location has hung onto some of their best staff, including the lovely and knowledgeable SAIMA. She has been there for years and years, and I'm glad to see her doing well....and this is why I'm giving it 5 stars.

Update to my posting: This is a good gym and hope the owners will invest in updating it some more. Also need some consistency with staff because it’s become a revolving door but it is good to see a familiar face like Jonanthan who still understands customer service. He always greets the members and also keeps the gym tidy like he owns the place. Like my previous post states this gym has a good layout and plenty of machines and benches. I will give it 5 stars when it gets updated some. New mats and paint job,etc.

There’s other gyms that are closer to where I live but this gym has a good layout and plenty of options. Also another reason I continue to be a member of this gym is because of the staff . Jonanthan, Mansoor and Brian are not your typical sale reps as they are always willing to help. Most sale reps never remember your name after they sign you up . This staff assisted me with workout suggestions, helped find my keys, listened to my concerns and suggestions. With the current labor issues and what feels like a revolving door with staff at other places its good to see familiar faces at golds gyms . This gym has a good staff and is very spacious.

This is a review of Gold’s Financial department, not Gold’s gym per se, who raised my membership charge without warning, and charged me during a period of time my membership was supposed to be suspended due to the high risk of Covid in an enclosed space that does not require masks and exposes members to infection . Golds also took it upon itself to charge me a $90 renewal fee without ever asking me, even though I told them I had been there once last year and wanted to cancel. Dealing with mangt led nowhere I was dispairing, until I heard of Logan in the financial magt. as the last resort. He promptly cleared all the mess, in the most professional, efficient manner one could wish. Logan is the only reason why I have not left Golds for Planet Fitness.

Here's an idea, maybe put a lock on your coil springs on the roof so people stop "Stealing" them and then we have to wait a whole year for your ownership to cough up a few hundred to replace the AC part and leaving members with a heat stroke. We were DYING last summer.

Can you guys also expand the sauna in the men's room? We really do NOT have that many people back there but always have 3-8 people cramped up in the sauna which is not cool.

Bring back your techs, for example nelson so Brian can put tickets in and service your equipment.

Lastly, if you're going to remove any employees can you actually sit down and DISCUSS & MEET with them rather than using a third person conduit to handle your request? I am lowkey really happy I don't work here anymore because of the unfair corporate system that refuses to TALK to their employees.

Brian goes above and beyond to ensure members are met with a friendly kind face. Make sure you are fair to him because your constant turnover of employees makes it look like you guys are literally the problem. Not the staff.

When are you going to remodel this location? you have been talking about it since 1990 and decided to remodel baileys instead. I hate to tell you but minority Annandale is starting to get wealthier and there are BETTER gyms in the area people can go to. Step up!!

They have everything I need for pursuing strength, the gym itself is decent and there's no complaints on lack. However... I tend to try to avoid the busy hours but I don't mind waiting too much... I do however absolutely hate their early weekend hours of closing at 7pm, I'm going to be switching to a 24 hour place so I don't have to race the clock on weekends due to my schedule not allowing me enough time. I was just about to head out the door and had been trying to finish up early enough to allow time for the gym but then I looked at the clock and I know it'd just be a huge time cramp and I don't want to just squish all of my heavy deadlifts and squats in so close together so I'll wait til tomorrow.

Will it kill me to wait a day? No. But when I'm already mentally prepared and in the zone... I'm not too happy about their early closing hours. Not a place for you if you're more of an evening/night time training style.

They are also upping their membership from $32 to $43 starting January. Most 24 hour places are about $50 and so long as they've got racks, bars, and plates I'll be making the switch.

If I worked out midday, then gold's would be the place I'd continue on at, but because I train at night, I'm tired of not getting in Saturday/Sunday half the times because of their 7pm closing time.

It was ok but too expensive. Not updated. Not affiliated with the Gold's in Lorton or Woodbridge so would have required two different memberships doubling the price. Then there is a yearly maintenance fee on top of the membership for new equipment. What? Locker rooms were old.

Last month I revoked membership for my wife, and I have Gold Gym’s rating email (attached) confirming the cancellation. Since they had our card information saved with them, charged my card amount of $49. I called them today to ask why. They can’t confirm what is the charge about. This seems a sneaky financial transaction that I need to figure out, and is an absolute waste of time for me! Please monitor your card transactions if you are a member as I don’t find them trust worthy.

Cold, Cold Freezing cold Shower again! It's awful when you've just had a good Bodypump class and some machines and am sweaty and dirty but need to rush off to my work. But alas even though I ran the shower for a few minutes it never even got to room temp. I had to quickly and painfully immerse parts of my body with a tiny dab of soap and quickly rinse until I was somewhat respectable. Over the past few years this has happened to me several times at this particular gym. Why doesn't management check on this and put up a sign if it's not working?
I had warned the manager that this sometimes happens days before and he was in disbelief but I told him again when it happened. Although many things are good about this gym such as the classes I have noticed other problems such as noisy and disorderly clients, faulty sanitary equipment, poor equipment etc. much more than the other Gold's locations. Therefore three stars. Cold shower in a gym is like a bad oven in a restaurant or bad projector in a movie theatre. Why????

By far the best golds gym in Northern Virginia! It may not be the biggest box in the area or the newest however when it comes to the layout of the facility and the excellent customer service from bottom to top this is the number one club!!! The current general manager always takes time to talk to me and listen to my ideas as busy as he is. His front desk staff is Phenomenal. I also see the personal trainers and sales reps take time to really qualify and build rapport with their new customer and current clients to take them to the next level!!!! By the way only golds gym in the area that still has a heavy bag a.k.a. punching bag and it’s facility!! The heavy bag is a great work out and I don’t understand why other gyms don’t have this piece of equipment !!! They keep it all old school with a little bit of new school like I said all around one the best facilities in regards to fitness centers in Northern Virginia hands-down the best!!! I drive about 20 to 30 minutes just to get my work out in. Keep up the great work guys!!!

I have bad experience with this gym. So disappointed with the stuff. They have a bad customer service that I ever seen.they hiring cheap people who they don't know how to interact and respect the members.if you are a Male then they give u a long face but if u are a female then they will have the time to help u with smile on their faces.They always charging ur credit card with late fees even if they get paid in time.The great thing they charge ur credit card even after cancelling your membership. Interesting gym and interesting stuff. My recommendation is changing the whole stuff including the general manager in that location. So disappointed in Goldsgym.
