I love this gym, fav Golds location in the area. Good vibes & good equipment, BUT please fix the booty builder! Really limited for hip thrusts since the smith machines don't go down all the way, so more options would also be great.

The men’s urinal has been out of order for months. Soaked paper towels sit underneath, reeking. It’s unbelievable that this gym ignores such an obvious issue

These facilities are very clean and has a great design for all the equipment/layout. The staff is very kind and personable. They are serious about making sure weights are racked/put away/respect being maintained in the gym. I left behind one of my AirPods after visiting from another golds gym where I’m a member and they held them for me. This is a great gym.

The gym is great! Totally love the vibe. But please be careful when you sign up for the membership because stopping the membership/getting back your money here is close impossible.
The staff DO NOT know how billing works. It's so misleading. You will ending up spending unnecessary money if you intend to cancel mid cycle. They are not really upfront in explaining the billing cycle/down payment/annual fee or anything at all to you.

Decent gym. Clean.
Equipment a bit old; Joe Gold may have used some of the machines here...
Warm/hot on free weight side of facility; should install ceiling fans.
Water fountains warm, too ;(
The space has potential...could up its game a bit...
IT'S 8 MONTHS LATER AND
WATER FOUNTAINS ARE STILL WARM. CAN MANAGEMENT PLEASE ADVISE IF THEY CARE ENOUGH TO FIX THE CHILLERS??
It's July 3, 2025 now, and the water fountain is as warm as ever, to go with the record heat and humidity outside.
Management doesn't care. They got your money, and thank you for the reminder... who wants non-metallic-tasting water from the fountain anyway??

The best of the 3 golds gyms in the area.
They need another leg curl and leg extension machine and they clearly have space for it.
I also wish they would have a better chest supported row machine. The current one does not have an adjustable foot rest and only supports a small area of the chest. This prevents it from working with every skeleton often requiring a weird bend at the legs to get the full range of motion
The only downside is having to pay $1 for packing. I wish it didn’t require me to get a separate ticket in order for me to validate the parking.

I’ve recently seen many people without proper hygiene walking around: they smell.
I also saw a homeless man in the men’s locker. I hope the management addresses these issues. Otherwise this is a good gym
Edit: air condition is down most of the time. It’s hot and humid here

Could use more squat/power racks (only 3), replace 1 or both of the smith machines IMO.
Fairly well maintained gym, it seemed clean to me, lockers have built-in locks so that's nice.
Staff were friendly but overly assertive about being a local resident for a guest day pass when I was there with a friend, they would only accept a state-issued LOCAL ID...

0 stars if i could for the most insufferable experience I had interacting with whoever was at the front desk, and their poor attempts to acquire a sign up. I made it clear I was only interested in viewing the gym in passing and was friendly in my interaction. When asked for my ID , I complied knowing standard procedure regarding signing waivers for tours was a norm and I only requested that it not be exposed on the counter as I wear hijab, and didn't want others to view it freely (a completely reasonable ask). The man proceeded to make passive aggressive jokes about my request and continued the passive aggressive behavior after I walked around the gym with 2 friends, suggesting that if this gym wasn't to my standard then lifetime might be a better fit. Truly strange behavior and awful customer service considering that hasn't been my experience at other golds gyms locations.

I have contacted this gym in-person, over email, and via the phone multiple times to no avail. THIS GYM IS TAKING MONEY FROM MY ACCOUNT WHEN I WAS TOLD I WOULD BE REFUNDED AND THAT MY MEMBERSHIP WOULD BE CANCELLED. I just had another $40 taken from my account when I was promised that my membership was cancelled……..Firstly, I entered a Gold’s Gym on a Sunday around 5:30pm, knowing it would close at 7 and desiring to quickly work out. I just moved from DC and was trying to use a guest pass but was told by a high-level employee that I could not use a guest pass because I only have a DC license, not a VA license. In reality, I could have paid simply $20 for a one day pass and worked out there. But, I was not told of this $20 day pass. Instead, I was told I needed to sign up for a membership…So, I did, and I worked out there, but this gym did not have the equipment I was accustomed to and the equipment I love. I realized I made a mistake and came back the very next day in-person to cancel the membership. The man working there looked me in my eyes and said the account was cancelled and that I would be refunded the $93…This was on a Monday. That Friday passed, and another $40 was taken from my account as if were still a member. I called, and this gym still had me listed as a member apparently but promised that would change… A week later, I called again and was told my membership was “pending cancellation,” but then another $40 was taken out from my account on November 8th….How is this gym’s computer technology so bad? I emailed their support multiple times and never received a response as well.....I have been dealing with this since October 22nd.…It is November 16th…..Other gyms have better equipment and space and technology that can fix these issues in a more timely manner....

The gym’s location is great, but I’ve visited all the gyms in the area, and they all seem to have the same quality equipment. Most of the machines are old, rusty, and have squeaky or noisy parts, or ripped cushions.
Considering how popular this gym is, they should invest in their equipment.
The staff at this location are generally okay, but they’re not very helpful. If they don’t know the answer to a question, they look at you like a deer in headlights.
This makes me hesitant to ask anything, which is disappointing.
Also parking under the building is not 2hrs free as I was led to believe by the staff. It’s discounted with validation.

I'm disappointed in how the St. Jude's fundraiser is being run by this company. The fundraising shirts are affordable, but the shipping of the items adds more than 50% to the price tag. I want to fund cancer charities - not FedEx. If gold's sincerely wants to raise money for St. Jude, they should stock the items in store with the rest of their retail merch, where they're not burdened by the hidden shipping fee.

[3.5/5] Pretty standard gym shenanigans that are pervasive across the industry, so unavoidable but unfortunate nonetheless. E.g., in the year of the Lord two thousand and twenty-four, EFT/automatic bill payment cancellations here still require one month’s notice. There’s no reason—aside from the gym and their billing services provider (ABC Fitness Solutions, LLC) blatantly wringing an extra monthly payment out of their patrons—that a cancellation can’t be immediate and with the final payment prorated to the millisecond…surely we have the technology…
Naturally when you sign up for a month-to-month personal training or club membership this isn’t honestly advertised (if mentioned at all)
Separately, for some reason, a ton of people (sometimes seemingly most) here don’t wipe down their machines after using them. Spend half an hour up on the stairmaster looking down onto the cardio and cable weights area and you’ll see what I mean. So if you are an anti-wipe enthusiast prospective club member, you may find your community here. Cleaning staff does come around every once in a long while to wipe some machines down at least
Can’t complain about the machines or weights, and the location is the best in the area
It beats paying an honestly insulting eight (8) times as much at the L*fetime Fitness 500 feet down the road which doesn’t even get you a lap pool or basketball court

I canceled my membership during COVID-19 and they tried to make me pay for the the time after I cancelled. They even sent it to a debt collector. I can't even get a hold of a person on the phone. A terrible company with no ethics. Don't visit this gym.
Edit: I had to report the debt collection to the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau and they got the debt removed. I can’t emphasize how dishonest the management is. No attempt to reach me and flagrantly lying about my attempts to cancel my membership. Luckily I knew to report their dishonest practices but I’m sure they shakedown a lot of people. The ownership deserves to be in prison.

The gym and price is fine. There is a homeless man who continues to find access into the locker-room at this gym during weeknights. The man can be smelled from 15 feet away. Staff does nothing — I have seen an employee walk in, look at the man, laugh, and walk away. Gross!

Edit: reducing to one star. I wish I could go lower. Apparently I was lied to when I cancelled my account. Gold's is continuing to bill me biweekly and will continue to do so until I MAIL them a check for the privilege of not paying any more. Avoid at all costs.
If you want to join a Gold's, this is a good option. The gym is fine. But at the end of your membership, they convert you to monthly billing at a ridiculous rate. Cancelling your membership is excruciating, and Gold's requires you to pay extra month when you ask to cancel. Slimy experience.

It's clean, it's decent, being in the heart of Clarendon. Decent turf area, weight section is okay lacking some machines, dumbbells only go to 95 lb, only one squat rack with deadlift platform. Curious how crowded it gets during peak hours seeing the size... Decent selection of cardio equipment unfortunately at least for me little to no internet access in the cardio section for someone who'd rather watch a video instead of listen to music. Parking is non-existent as it's in the heart of Clarendon, otherwise if you're in walking distance or ride a motorcycle you should be fine

Great new facility with nice refurbishment and a friendly staff as always. I do have two pet peeves which I wish management would address. Machine weight workout area has become somewhat of a cyber lounge with members occupying machines while playing with their iPhones while others are waiting to use the machines. Somewhat of a Starbucks atmosphere versus fitness gym. Also, the cardio machines have video screens with little to no selection of channels and with virtually no news channels available. I mentioned to staff twice and was told they restrict channel selection to avoid offending anyone who might disagree with certain news channels. So I’m stuck watching Joy Behar during my cardio workout. I hate to think that Golds has gone Woke.

Fantastic, affordable gym in a superb location. Spacious, clean, and recently remodeled. Most of the equipment is either new or recently refurbished. Front desk staff is friendly and helpful. Christian, personal trainer I worked with, is excellent, quite approachable, and put time outside our sessions into putting together a sustainable routine. Physical therapy team on staff. Even the cleaning staff is friendly and does a great job. Can be crowded during the 5–7pm timeframe, but otherwise there’s usually no wait for equipment. Everything is wheelchair accessible. Highly recommended.

The free 7 day pass is a joke. You have to have it activated when a manager comes. 20 dollars a day if not. Manager doesn't arrive until after 9am. No fine print of these and other terms listed on the countless nurturing emails they sent before I even arrived.
As far as the gym goes, it's smaller than most Golds I've been to, but has reasonable selection of machines, and free weights. Large selection of cardio.

I highly recommend exercising at the Clarendon location. I have been coming here for a couple of years and the team members have always created a welcoming, comfortable and clean environment to exercise in. This gym is probably one of the best in the area. Huge functional strength area. There are not enough benches or heavy enough dumbbells given the ratio of beachbods. Worse place ever.
Weekend staff (s) are rude and has no training on how to greet or welcome new customers. Went there for a trial two consecutive days with an active gym member and was not allowed to work out just because the guy didn’t want to help and said this: I cannot allow a guest or 7-day pass to work out “because the manager is not here and cannot help.” And he didn’t bother to call anyone and I respectfully left.

I'd been a Gold's gym member for 7-8 years and always felt at home, sadly that is not longer the case. The manager (Anthony) was incredible rude when i tried to bring a guest, claiming they charge a fee for guests when that's never been the case. I was running at full speed on the threadmill and he resumes to stop my machine and charge my account a guest fee without my authorization. I've been working out there everyday for YEARS, and all the staff and trainers know me and see me walk in day in and out. I constantly purchase their gear and refer people to their gym (through the FREE guest pass) including my BF who is also currently taking on personal training lessons (he will be cancelling at the end of his sessions). For this guy to treat me like some second class citizen and basically kick me out of the gym like a dog just shows they don't care about keeping their loyal members happy and are just on a power trip to make their gym more profitable in a super saturated market. So disappointed in what I always considered a cool and safe place to work out.

Note, original review was meant for Gold's Gym in Ballston and has been redacted. I have been to the Gold's Gym at Clarendon as well as the new Rosslyn and Bailey's Crossroads locations. The Clarendon location is smaller with mainly treadmills, machines, cables and a small free weight section. If you are looking for a place with some free weights (<=100lbs) and mainly machines you will find Clarendon to be satisfactory. Of the four locations I have been to I would rank this one in 4th place or last place.

I have been a member of this location for over a year, enjoyed it very much until I brought the guest. We were communicated that it’s 20$ Charge while we were discussing should we get a membership. In the meantime, our card got a charged for 20$ and GM showed up. He was trying to convince me that no gym issues guest pass. As I visited recent locations who did I rubbed it on his face and he called me “mean”. After that, I didn’t even react because it’s pointless to deal with such an amount of unprofessionalism and it was uncalled for since we were gonna get membership. He also added that my current membership will change with kind a hostile voice. Extremely disappointed!!!!!

Probably the best in the area for budget gyms, definitely better than the ymca as far as equipment. The main cons are how difficult it is to cancel and their new anti noise campaign they started pushing hard at the beginning of the year. I got interrupted in the middle of my workout and was told to use crash pads even though I was doing very light bent over rows quietly.
I understand that they need to respect other tenants in the building but let's be honest, bumper plates and extra floor padding would go a lot further than individually bothering people.

I have no problem with this Gold's gym, and I like everyone there, but the "new manager", Anthony, is the worst gym receptionist ever. I walk in with my friend (after getting a free online pass for her), he starts asking for ID. I asked him what do you need the ID for, because my friend left her ID at the office, he said this is the policy, and I explained to him this is not the first time I have friends with free passes coming in, and no one ever asked for that, and this was my lunch break, and it's already 20 minutes in. He said this is the policy, and I'm just following the rules, and then he started suggesting a "Paid Guest" pass, and I guess that was also part of the "Policy", but he insisted on showing some ID, I told him we will have the ID next time, and all he insisted not to let us in. I had to leave, because I couldn't waste 20 extra minutes to go back get the ID. Gold's gym is one of the greatest gyms around here, and it's one of the best places, without people like "Anthony". If he's a manager, please demote him immediately. I would expect a manager to say just bring it next time, instead of just letting us walk out like that.

Short story- I had been trying to cancel my membership for MONTHS, and the GM hadn't responded to at least 7 attempts of me calling, stopping by, and emailing him, but continued to bill my husband for my membership (which he had no authorization to do). The gym frequently does not open on time (my husband has stood outside for an hour waiting on it to open), equipment is often broken.
Long story- I signed up for a membership in December 2017, and was told immediately after that the membership did not go through and I needed to come back in for it. Following this my upcoming body scan appointment was cancelled (with no explanation, just an auto-generated email that the appointment was cancelled), my card was never charged, and I began receiving emails asking me to come into the gym and join. Hence, I was under the impression that my membership did not go through.
Then in March, 3 months later, my husband’s credit card was charged $20. It was charged again, $59 in June. I’ve been trying to get in touch with the general manager, Keith Marder, for months to get this sorted out. I’ve tried on at least 7 different occasions, via email, in person, and phone. My husband is in the gym 5 days a week and has spoken with staff just about every week about this- the front desk staff confirmed with him that they did indeed relay the message to Keith, but we still never heard from him.
Keith finally got back to me last week on the 16th, conveniently one day after the new billing cycle started. He was rude and unapologetic. When I asked for contact information for customer service, he refused to give it to me, and told me we could schedule a time to call customer service together. I explained that I wasn’t comfortable with that, since it had taken him MONTHS to get back to me the first time. He rudely responded, “Well ma’am, I’m on the phone with you right now, and I’m telling you that is what we can do.” When I told him they were never authorized to charge my husband’s card (I had given them my credit card initially), he told me that because it was an add on and my husband was the primary account holder, that he assumes responsibility for the payments and they could legally charge his card. My husband never signed any paperwork authorizing an add on to his membership. I don’t see how he can be financially responsible for something there is no documentation of him ever authorizing.
Keith finally cancelled my membership, and I received notice that we will be billed again on 8/15. It seems very convenient that he returned my call one day after the new billing cycle, so that there would be one more payment in August.
There are plenty of other things to complain about with this gym. On at least 12 occasions over the past year it hasn’t opened on time, and my husband along with many other members have stood outside, on some occasions for over an hour, waiting to be let in. It is actually a joke with the morning gym goers- if they go a month without an incident they are shocked.

Gold's sure has changed since the last time I was there, it's not filled with meatheads, and size 0 models pretending to workout. Now there are regular people just trying to get into shape.

This gym is ok when they decide to actually open on time in the morning. However it is so annoying and frustrating when I show up at 5AM sharp and I am forced to wait 30minutes or more for people to unlock the door. The staff is young, dumb, and irresponsible. Besides that, the equipment is just decent.

This gym represents the clarendon area, being overpriced and uppity. I got the feeling that the staff and customer crowd were conceded, and the bathrooms smell horrible.

I dont go as often as I want to anymore because it is always too crowded in normal hours.,,unless you go when it's really early or very late. Equipment wise, they have good amount.
Wish they upgrade their group exercise rooms, it looks too outdated. and I wish there's a rowing machine too!

The place is always so clean, and the staff helpful. I love the windows and view of the street. I can't stand working out where I feel trapped underground, or in a cave. I recommend this gym to everyone!
