I go here for the sauna, tanning, and cheap rate. The gym part is awful. The machine circuit is always overcrowded so it's hard to go through my routine (even switching it up). Many times the machines are taken by people who are just sitting on them reading their phones. I realize they may be resting between sets, but proper etiquette is to get off during a lengthy rest phase so someone else can slip in a set. No employees are walking the floor to help reduce this kind of thing. (Edit: I upgraded this to 3 stars because it's still a good value for about a dollar a day. If you use free weights it's great -- plenty of equipment and room. Classes are also free. However, for a newbie like me who wants to use the machine circuit it's so busy I can't get a full workout in. I wish they would provide some free training with free weights so I could switch.)

I'll start with the bad. It's way too expensive. If you want to bring a guest just forget it because depending on your plan its $20. The 24hrs is cool, lots of equipment and variety, its actually pretty spacious minus some of the machine areas being a little crammed but no biggie. Honestly I love this gym, I came from crunch because I wanted a 24hr gym and more equipment, but since then rates have gone up twice, and I wouldn't be surprised at all if they went up again. It's just too expensive to justify at this point. I'll most likely be going back to crunch soon. Hopefully they can work with us on either the rates or other benefits like free guests again.

I was only in town for 3 months of summer and made a deal with a manager/owner to do $90 for the 3 month period, just as I had done the previous summer. I was instead put on the basic plan and charged a $70 annual fee plus $30 a month for the last 4 months. Realizing this, I called and spoke with the manager on duty but they claimed a 3 month deal doesn’t exist and they don’t know why I was sold one. They did not honor the deal or try to contact the other manager who sold it to me. I was overcharged by $100.

The gym is poorly run and weights are cluttered everywhere, being left in the wrong spots. Additionally, many of the plates have rubber flaking off and there are about 4-5 different brands/styles of plate all mixed together. The bathrooms are relatively dirty.

Lots of the equipment is busted or broken. For example, one of the weighted crunch machines travels its path tilted/offcenter, the standing calf raise squeaks/grinds improperly on each rep, and the hammer strength quad extension was out of order for nearly the whole summer.

This hamstring curl machine is particularly dangerous. I took the pictures mid-summer. The pin slot is worn down badly, with only a few mm of metal holding back before it snaps and causes someone to tear something.

I almost never post reviews like this but feel I that I have been scammed. Stay away from this gym - it’s run terribly anyway.

I don’t usually write reviews. But I felt it was time to write one for Gold’s. I have been a member of this gym for several years. They have really improved a lot over the last few months. The front desk operates very nicely and although I miss Kierra at the front desk, I am absolutely enjoying chatting with Tiffany. She is proactive about being kind to people and making sure people feel welcome.. I also really appreciate my conversations when I come in with Chris. He’s such a pleasant guy! The other thing is….that the equipment seems to be fixed in a timely manner. I mentioned something to the maintenance guy who fixes the equipment a few weeks ago and the next time I hopped on it, it was working great. I know that GYM’s often get bad reviews, but I have to say Gold’s is really doing good job especially in there personnel area!

I’ve been coming to this gym for years and I had a good experience, however today I met their new “manager” Tiffany and she is so rude, horrible first interaction, she seems to go out of her way to tell people she’s the manager because she’s on a weird power trip. She is bothering people while they workout and interrupting their workout to tell you she’s the new manager while she’s off the clock. People bring boomboxes to the gym and they record in the open gym, i was in a dark room alone and she comes to tell me to turn off my phone volume (which was on 40%) such a weirdo. Tiffany if you’re seeing this, pick your battles because you have bigger things on your plate like getting rid of the cockroaches in the sauna than bothering me and interrupting my Taylor swift time!

I used to go to Willow Lawn a few years ago but stopped while I was having some personal health issues. I was gonna try to come back but it doesn’t seem like there’s as much variety in the classes as there used to be. They used to have yoga during the week and way back in the day I think I remember them even having Zumba. I would love to see some more variety come back onto the schedule.

As far as I'm concerned, this gym is the only game in town if you are a serious lifter or need a wide variety of equipment. They seem also to offer classes during the day, which a lot of places don't. Those people who leave one star reviews need to be reminded of how reasonably priced membership is here. You simply can't get what this gym offers at double the price in Richmond.

I rejoined after Covid in 2022. I am only there for the classes. I love the instructors and have developed great friendships with fellow classmates. Our cycle class gets together socially. I look forward to brunch with some other classmates.

The gym has gone downhill in 2025. And dues have gone up TWICE already. The general manager listens but is powerless as the owners only care about the bottom line. Staff reductions show in the cleanliness. The fitness director of 13 years tries so hard but it falls on deaf ears. She has lost instructors with the reduction of childcare staff and now it’s closed 3 mornings a week. There are over 150 participants, mostly mothers, in the morning classes!! Oddly the lost hours are daytime only, no evenings have lost hours.
I miss my mom friends who need the childcare!!!
The message is clear, body builders only welcome!

I would not bring my business here! Was looking for a new gym to get a membership at with a friend, this location caught my eye because of its operating hours. After signing up for a guest pass online, the front desk staff first said it’s impossible to sign up for a guest pass online? I had to show where I signed up, aswell as the confirmation e-mail, which is fine, just confusing the staff weren’t even aware of their own guest pass policy. We had a good workout, were respectful with all equipment, and on our way out, were informed our guest pass was terminated and we are no longer welcome on premises. This was extremely confusing, and I was not provided a reason after asking. Disappointing, I ended up going with Crunch on Ridgefield, amazing and kind staff. If you’re still looking for Golds, after exploring the W Broad Location, it seems much nicer. I would not go here!

I have always loved this gym, but that feeling has faded. I only take the fitness classes. The instructors are incredible and provide a wonderful service. Recently the gym has eliminated most of the kids club hours. They were not transparent about this leaving members as well as instructors in the dark. My favorite instructor has two children and now can only teach on Monday. Classes have become much more limited as fees have increased. It's totally fine to be a lifting and machine gym, but be honest. Let the members know. I used to tell all my friends how great Gold's at Willow Lawn was, now, just the opposite. I will be cancelling my membership soon. It was wonderful while it lasted. Stop being so disrespectful especially to your instructors, you do not deserve them.

Difficult cancellation process until an online request form was made available very recently. Not a fan of how helpless the staff is in rectifying customer dissatisfaction.

Give your employees agency to maintain current and future customer relationships. Since they do not have agency to make reasonable judgements in maintaining customer satisfaction, I will likely not return to nor recommend Gold's Gym at Willow Lawn.

Do not be fooled, this place is GROSS. There was a week where only 1 front door worked and they had the rest tapped up with caution tape. The roof leaks all along the turf area and front stretching area when it rains. Things break all the time and it’s always busy and you can barely get on a machine. There were weeks the sauna was broke and it has a healthy collection of roaches and is not cleaned well. It was worth it to me to pay a month to cancel, which is industry standard. Much happier at a new gym, which is too bad because I really wanted to like Gold’s.

I am not one to leave a one star review, but tonights customer service experience has not sold me on keeping my membership. The two associates at the counter seemed very inconvenienced when they had to put their phones down to help me.

When they did, it was to use the massage beds I pay as a member to use expecting them to be clean and available for paying members. He set up the bed on the right and imagine my shock when I walked into the room and there were homeless men sleeping on both of them!!!! One of them got up for me to use it, didn't wipe it down. I decided against it and left.

I expect the gym I pay to use to uphold a standard of hygienic practice. I was disappointed and questioned why am I paying to be a member here if homeless people are allowed to sleep on the equipment we pay to use. I understand hardship and do not mean to be insensitive to their situation, however they were both laying on what is expected to be clean equipment for members to use in filthy clothes. A gym we pay good money to use, should not be the place they go to sleep preventing us from using the tools we pay to use.

It's funny how businesses like this have stopped caring about hygiene policies since the pandemic.

Dear Owner, look at your cameras. I did write to the GM but it seems like a completely normal thing at this location and I'm disappointed. I am now working evenings and work out at night time. If I see it again I'm posting pictures of it here on google so people considering your location as their GYM can know what they're walking into without the surprise I got tonight.

A lot of these bad reviews are nit-picky. If you enjoy a no-frills workout environment that updates equipment every now and again, then this gym is for you. Sure, certain features may not always be available, but for the most part they take care of broken/outdated equipment in a reasonable timeframe. Plus, they have everything you need to get a good workout in, plus some. If you don’t like crowds, avoid rush hour, it’s that simple. I go around 9:00 PM, it’s rarely busy, and I can get my workout done relatively quickly (hour or less).

If I can offer some constructive criticism, they could definitely improve their communication system when they close for weather or other reasons. They’re always listed as open, even when they’re closed or delayed. Maybe they could add a widget on their website that tracks if and when they’ll be open.

I really wanted to like this place, but unfortunately, it fell short of expectations. First off, it’s *always* packed, especially after 5 PM. If you’re hoping to get a workout done during peak hours, forget about it—there are not enough machines to accommodate everyone.

On top of that, the gym often feels hot and stuffy because they don’t seem to run the AC consistently, which makes working out uncomfortable. And the bathrooms? They’re out of order way too often, which is just frustrating.

The absolute worst part, though, is their outdated and frustrating cancellation policy. Not only do you have to come in-person to cancel your membership (which is incredibly inconvenient in today’s digital age), but they also require you to pay for an additional month after you’ve already decided to leave. It feels like they’re intentionally dragging out the process to squeeze more money out of you. It’s ridiculous and honestly feels like something out of the 20th century.

Overall, I wouldn’t recommend this gym. There are better options out there with modern policies, better facilities, and less hassle. Save yourself the frustration.

They could learn a lesson in service! Got to the gym and signed in. The. I grabbed a preworkout drink from the fridge. I patiently stood by the register to pay for my item while another gym patron signed in and then purchased a drink right in front of me as if I weren’t there. The person behind the counter serviced them without even acknowledging me. Then proceeded to help another customer that she had stopped helping previously so she could wait on the person that skipped me. No way you didn’t see me standing there as big as I am lol. I've been a member of Gold's Gym for a while, but my experience has consistently been below expectations. One of the biggest issues is that the sauna is constantly broken, and it's frustrating that it's rarely addressed or fixed in a timely manner. Additionally, the showers are almost never clean, and two of them have been out of service for months without any sign of repair.

To make matters worse, there is only one water fountain for the entire gym that sometimes works, which is highly inconvenient given the number of people using the facility. On top of all this, the membership rates keep going up. When I first signed up, it was $14.99, and now it's jumped all the way to $21.99, with no improvements in the gym to justify the increase.

Overall, the quality of the facility doesn’t reflect the price hike, and it's disappointing that these issues haven’t been resolved.

Decent gym, would rate it higher but feel scammed by their premium membership. At the time of buying it, it had advertised a perk of the premium membership that I could bring a guest for free with me. But then they took that perk away, requiring the guest to pay. And within six months increased the price of all memberships including the premium. I would understand one or the other, but both within the same year does not feel fair. I can't imagine removing the free guest pass perk was due to inflation.

Main reason I ended up getting a membership was because someone used their free guest pass to bring me along a few times and I liked the place. Guess I won't be bringing anyone I know from this point forward.

Gold's is nice overall but I would not recommend it to people specifically because of this, I'd be willing to bet they will continue this pattern in the future.

Worst policy on canceling a membership that's been paid for in years. I have had a membership here since 2017 and recently moved to Woodbridge, thinking I could call and cancel being the 21st century and all. I decided to get free passes to all of the gyms in the area and experience them all before choosing one to help me recover from a major fall that injured my entire left leg. I fell in love with the Willow Lawn location of Gold's Gym. It started with the hydromassage that warms my injured muscles up nicely preventing them from hurting during the workout. Though they don't have every piece of equipment I would like to use, they come close enough to let me enjoy a nice hour and a half workout. Then I let my injured muscles recover on the hydromassage afterwards. I leave pain free and stronger each time. In just two weeks, I am walking very well again. My physical therapist is very impressed!

The down side is that a place this awesome is packed. I solve this one by coming at times when they aren't so packed. Keep up the good work Gold's Gym.

Before joining, beware of the difficulty in cancelling your membership. Came in person on two occasions to cancel (during normal business hours) but was told I needed to return when the billing manager was present. The only other way to cancel is by certified mail. Tbh I stopped being enthusiastic about this gym after a guy came up to me and commented that I should keep working on the rower to "help get rid of my belly." I was 25 weeks pregnant, already self-conscious due to my new baby bump (never HAD a "belly" before), and unfortunately that shut me down for the day. :'( Pregnant or not, it was a rude comment to make. I've taken a couple of the yoga classes there though which were good and even pregnant the instructor was kind and helpful with alternate positions for me :)

Lots of equipment, but also...lots of people. My boyfriend gets asked "how many sets do you have left on that machine" basically every time he goes because so many people need/want to use specific machines. Makes him feel kinda pressured. But I think in general the culture of this gym is just not for us. It's definitely seems to be more focused on the aesthetics of fitness (most everyone there is in tight/revealing clothes, which can be inspiring but also can be very distracting!!!) ... I'd call it kinda "bro" lol That said, it was nice to feel comfortable wearing my own cute tops there (before I was pregnant) to celebrate my hardwork with everyone else. But, definitely at other gyms there is more an emphasis on BEING healthy, on going to the gym no matter how you look, and respecting eachother's space/journey. Definitely don't feel that here.

Main reason for low stars though is how difficult it was to cancel - there were specific hours we had to go in because there's a specific person you have to talk to. We had to take off work in order to go cancel it (has to be in person). That said, price was good, sign up was easy, no contract was required which was AWESOME and I'm thankful for. We were members for about 6 months. I'd say we definitely got our money's worth, and who knows? We might be back one day, but for now we're checking out other gyms that might be more up our alley. :)

Have tried stopping in and reaching out multiple times and cannot get my membership cancelled. After being a regular customer for 2 years between VCU and Willow Lawn I have been relocated very quickly to Miami. I stopped in at the front desk three separate times trying to cancel and each time they couldn’t because the person was off that day for one reason or another. I tried calling and they refuse to cancel without a certified letter. I told them I wouldn’t send them a certified letter. It’s an absurd hurdle and It’s just horrendous customer service. This is a basic function of the business. I’m not in a contract. I’ve paid on time every month for years. Peoples circumstances change. I offered to send them a PDF with a signature which legally is the same exact thing. It’s absurd when every other gym that’s not even a franchise can do this at their discretion with a click of a mouse that this is the hill they decide to die on living up to Gold’s slimy scammy reputation they’ve managed to harness for themselves over the years. If the manager was ever at work and I could speak to them directly and not the front desk who seems to have no authority maybe I could sort it out. At the end of the day I don’t believe customer is always right but you ARE a business and I’m just asking for a completely reasonable and common request that is just a part of doing business in your industry. Can you treat me like the loyal paying customer I’ve been for years and not like a dollar and cent. Do you not realize sometimes people sometimes move back and if you treated them like a human maybe they’d sign up with you again.

Loved the gym when I was going but giving it one star because of the way they handled it when I canceled my membership. My card on file was deactivated so charges couldn’t go through and I received a call from a lady who informed me. At that time, I decided to just cancel my membership and she told me all was good. Periodically throughout the month I kept receiving random calls about my billing so I called and called and could never get an answer. I went back and a worker informed me that my account was not canceled and I would have to come in before 6pm when a manger was in office in order to cancel. So I went during my lunch break to the local Golds Gym and was told I had to cancel my membership at the same location that I signed up at. I was finally able to explain the situation to a manager who still made me pay for two months even though I was originally told over the phone that I was fine. If I was told this information originally, I would have took off a couple hours of work to cancel my membership but I was not. Big miscommunication issues.

I give this a 2 star only due to front desk service. Came into town for business. Woke up for a early workout at this Golds Gym. Walked in the front door and literally there was no sort of friendly greeting. This young girl looked me and my fiancé up and down and was just overall stuck up, standoffish, no help as if she was a intern not fully trained to manage a front desk obviously. I was emailed a guess pass and showed it to her. She looked at it and said basically they don't accept passes here without management. I told her it was on there golds gym website. She had no clue was I talking about. Again poor management at the front desk. To much confusion for something so simple. Me being new here.. I accidentally half way walked into the guys locker room because I didn’t see the sign. It was a common mistake. Immediately I turned around and she walked up to me and said I wasn’t suppose to be in the mens locker room. Smh.. I’m like lol umm.. I know that it was a mistake.. Not “ Hi Miss do you need help with finding the ladies restroom” she was just off the gate said YOUR NOT SUPPOSE TO BE IN THE MENS RESTROOM. I felt like I was being stalked! Her attitude was just rude, standoffish and just gave me bad vibes. I will not be coming back for sure. Front desk needs to work on professionalism and perhaps getting someone more friendly that greets people at the front desk! That has some kind of customer service skills. Overall the gym was a nice well equipped gym.

Came by to maybe get a tour and join but there was no one to really help me except the guy at the front counter who was just interested in locking me in to a contract but didn’t offer to take me on a tour or anything else. People setting up tripods to film in workout areas isn’t ok and it’s especially annoying when you bring it to the attention of the front desk and nothing happens. What’s the point of having rules on the wall like ‘no gym bags in workout areas’ or ‘no cell phone use while exercising’ if the staff is unable or unwilling to enforce them? As a member it shouldn’t be my job to enforce basic gym safety guidelines.

This gym has ONE water fountain. ONE. and the water has been HOT. BATH WATER HOT for roughly 8 months. The fountain alone has been “under construction” multiple times and nothing has gotten better. The rates have gone up for NO REASON with NO CONTRACT. After they upped the prices they also cancelled free guests for anyone with the gold pass. The reason most people get the gold pass in the first place. In January we were told that new equipment was going to be added, one machine every month for the first 6 months. NOTHING HAS BEEN ADDED. The General Manager told me today that it’s out of his control and it is the OWNERS fault! He also told me the plumbing has been installed wrong and that’s why it’s not cold consistently. Keep in mind this has been going on for roughly 8 months. The GM said that they can’t get ANYBODY to fix the plumbing. The gym is going downhill fast and it’s not looking like it’s getting any better. Only one star because I can’t put zero!

I just moved to Richmond Va. And was traveling from Fredericksburg, Va. To see which gym I wanted to use. This gym is not friendly at all. I would not recommend anyone go to this gym based off of what I am about to say. I was stopped by a Paul Wiggin the General Manager. This guy followed me into the step class and told me that I didnt sign in. Harrasment. These are choice words harrasment but I choose to use them because I was followed into my stepclass after signing properly into the kiosk. I was instructed by the manager under the General Manager Paul Wiggins to sign in on the tablet ( customer kiosk ) everytime I come in. The manager was initially going to charge me a 20 membership knowing I could use a travel pass. When instructed to call my home gym the manager under the General Manager refused to call and instructed me to use the kiosk from now on. No fee necessary. After all I am a member of Golds Gym, just another location. I was doing the right thing and he still stopped me. It was embarrassing to be followed into the step class ultimately being asked to leave without an adequate level of understanding. It was inappropriate. This private gym needs training in customer service. Even the people at the front counter are taught to be rude.

Again I was doing the right thing but this happened today. Inappropriate and unfortunately has to be reported.

I would never pay this gym a membership fee. In fact would rather pay more somewhere else. They don't deserve it. The General Manager extended my travel.pass out until June 30 22. I assume this was because of his behavior. Sometimes losing the customer is the best response. I don't want your pass. There's nothing you can do or say to reverse what happened. SHAME ON YOU.

There is also mold on the water fountain by the cardio machine. The overall cleanliness of this gym is substandard.

I wanted to cancel my membership as I joined a gym with class hours that better fit my schedule. I went in at the end of August, as you have to do so in person, knowing that I would be going back into the office and unable to come in between 10-6 on weekdays. Their system was down but the manager gave me his card and said to send him an email and he would get it done. After emailing twice, he told me it was cancelled in Sept. I expected to be charged in October, due to the 30 day notice requirement, but I was charged again in Nov. I emailed the manager twice and then emailed the general mailbox when I did not hear from him. I last emailed them almost a month ago and still have not gotten an answer. It should not be this difficult to end a gym membership and this experience has definitely made me not trust Gold's Gym.

I signed up for the Willow Lawn Golds Gym in July 2021 to participate in some personal training.
I noticed how unclean the facility was and always expressed how I felt about it. When the gym sent out a survey I also expressed how I wish they would clean and wipe down more due to the pandemic.

I stopped going because I saw first hand how they deal with employees that have Covid-19 and didn’t agree with that either. (Coming back to work before 14 days after a positive test)

When I called in August to cancel I was offered extended months in my free trail. What they neglected to tell me is 1. You have to come in to cancel and 2) I would be charged $50 for the annual fee.

Of course I can’t get a refund and now I have to pay an annual fee for being at the gym for 2 months.

If you don’t care about cleanliness or your health in pandemic. Have at it!

I was told this was due to COVID which I get they were impacted hard I imagine but it has been over a year for them to realign and not mislead their customers.
Additionally, I was told I could sign up for membership and cancel without penalty within 3 days. No mention of the annual facility or upfront fee mentioned online.

Do not give these people your banking information. Any issue that arises you will not be able to speak to management, the lady caitlyn who does the financial stuff is always at a meeting and lunch. Been weeks and between emails and calls etc the only people I have spoke to are 17 year olds kids who work the front desk. Also be mindful when you join that they will try trick you into thinking you are meeting with a golds gym nutrition and Excercise specialist when in reality it’s a third party who has no affiliation with golds who will try to pressure and manipulate you to give your debit card for biweekly training payments of minimum 120 every other week. Golds actually gives your personal information to these people And they lie and pretend they work there. I worked out for 8 minutes for a *free session* with this person and hurt my back badly. Missed work and had to go to urgent care. Here we are now not even a month later after cancelling and golds still is trying to steal money from my account (about 5 times differing in amounts) and won’t return my calls.

Do yourself a favor and join any other gym so you don’t have to deal with these vile people. Also no Covid restrictions are enforced.

Gold's Gym is like the Mafia. Once you join you can only leave through death I guess. Even then they would probably come after my family. Just check out all of the reviews about how difficult it is to cancel. This is one of the only businesses in the world where you can't easily quit online. This is done on purpose. One star only because I can't choose 0. They have the worst policies to loot people of their money. I moved out of Richmond and called them many times to cancel my membership. They said I have to come in person before 6 pm. I went in person, but on a Saturday and requested them to cancel my membership. Apparently their policy won't let them to process cancellation on weekends and I have to mail them via usps ( email won't work) innorder to request cancellation. In this day and age, it is absurd to have such policies. They didn't have any problem with me signing up on a Saturday and they let people sign up online. I wish they come up with at least some better ways to rob people's money. Not going to a Gold's gym again until they change these ludicrous policies. Worst people who aren't customer friendly at all.

This gym is typically clean and the staff are friendly, although there can be a stinky bathroom every so often. There is a good variety of machines and free weights which can provide a decent workout during most higher capacity times. However, I would have given a five star rating if my monthly fee had not magically changed from $9.99 to $12.99 a month. (The $9.99 monthly rate is still available, but they might treat you as they have done with me.) Aside from the shady price increase after a few months into my membership, all is well and I have not been bamboozled further.

I'd also recommend that you make sure to photograph the contract you sign, and I'd recommend that you do not offer a signature on the digital keypad entry at the front desk. They have the capacity to use a standard, ink-written signature in a paper contract, and you might want to pursue that choice. Once again, photograph the paper contract that you sign. Ask to not use the digital equipment up front.

It is still a viable gym option in Richmond aside from negative comments and low ratings online. It is also possible to choose to block direct debit charges as Gold's Gym does not require a routing number with your bank- which Crunch Fitness requires. I'd first explain this to the bank and eventually have them cancel Gold's opportunity to charge further right after getting the monthly fee. It is in Gold's Gym's contracts to charge for the rest of the month upon cancellation, so be prepared to uphold your end of that stipulation with your gym membership agreement.

EDIT: Their canned response below does not represent how they actually feel. It was made abundantly clear that I didn't feel comfortable coming in-person to have to cancel in such trying times, their response was that they wouldn't budge. They just want to make it as difficult as possible for people, even when it's most irresponsible to do so--Just to make a few extra bucks. The sad thing is, if they had only charged people who had actually been using the facilities since lockdown, I would have stayed a loyal member. Instead they charge me an additional month when I'm forced to go in to cancel because 'they need 30 days notice'.

Unfortunately no one from management or membership came to speak to me upon my first visit. Very dirty, equipment disorganized, locker room had broken sinks and showers with water everywhere, and trash all over the gym floor. There were ZERO precautions in place during the COVID-19 pandemic, maybe 1% of people wearing masks. The only redeeming factor is the weight lifting equipment was superb for serious weight lifting; Hammer Strength, Iron Grip, etc – very nice. Apart from that, there is nothing this gym offers that a similarly priced and located gym could offer.

not a bad gym but they make it impossible to cancel your membership. Back in late February when I tried to cancel my membership, the staff told me only managers can process cancellations and they only do so between 10am-7pm Mon-Fri. I have been back three times within that time range but the manager is always "unavailable" for some reason. I then requested the email of the manager and was given a business card. I emailed, no response. A week later I emailed again, no response. After getting no response I call and ask for Courtney (the manager whose name is printed on the business card) only to be told that person stopped working there about a month ago and of course the current manager is "unavailable". So apparently they like to hand out business cards of past employees. I have yet to have someone actually help me with my cancellation so think twice before joining this gym.

If I could give this gym zero stars, I would. They will not let you cancel your membership and if you stop paying they said eventually they will send you to collections. I went in THREE separate times (before moving out of state) to cancel my membership. The first time was on a Saturday and they only let you cancel on “business hours” (9-5 not the gyms hours). So if you work regular hours- make sure you can take a sick day to be able to cancel your membership. The second time I went in during these said hours, there was “no one there at the time” who could cancel my membership, so I’d have to come back later. Finally, the last time I went in they told me I’d have to get a certified letter and mail it to them to cancel my membership. So I have to get my own notary to cancel my membership because I no longer live in the state. So of course, I stopped their payments on my card and the next month got a call that if I don’t continue paying for a membership I tried to cancel three separate times, they said I would get sent to collections. Essentially, they will steal your money and make you take time off work and go through leaps and bounds to cancel your membership. Stay away from this scam job!!

We joined this gym while staying short term in Richmond on a job. We got a month to month deal and the man who signed us up was as charming and helpful as you can be. Told us we could cancel anytime we needed to once we had a firm exit date from Richmond.
Two months later, we knew we would be terminating our membership and returning to California. Tried to cancel the membership at the front desk in person and was told by the front desk attendant r the person in charge of that was not avail and to come back and was super unhelpful to the point of being rude. The manager on duty stepped in and told us he took it. Cut to two months later our credit card was still being charged when we were back in California. Called the branch and was treated as rude as you can possibly imagine. Courtney the business manager took NO time to understand or listen to the circumstances and blamed us for not cancelling properly despite the fact her employee handled the transaction. Do not join here unless you like unprofessional people who sign you up in a hurry and then become u helpful and rude to you when you try to cancel! Who needs that kind of treatment??? Not one apology or refund for the mistake either. Spend your money on somewhere that takes care of their clients!

WARNING! GYM WILL MAKE CANCELING A MEMBERSHIP DIFFICULT. UNPROFESSIONAL BUSINESS MANAGER.
Membership reps( to aid in cancelation in person) are unavailable to speak to after 6:30pm - prime use of gym.
Misinformed Front Desk
Poor Customer service Business Manager - Dismissive attitude. Hung up on me.

I joined this gym while on a job working temporary in Richmond- figured it would be a great place for people coming for short term work. IF YOU ARE LOOKING FOR A SHORT MONTH TO MONTH MEMBERSHIP with easy ability to cancel- I recommend you DO NOT JOIN THIS GYM. I had difficulty speaking with a membership rep at 6:30pm as I was told by the front desk rep that the membership reps were no longer there for today and I should come back tomorrow. Nobody to handle canceling but plenty to sign you up!!

Canceling-
I explained I leaving the state next week and this was my only chance to cancel. The front desk rep was no help. Then a manager overheard my situation and he attempted to help. It was already a bad sign that the front desk was unable to see anyway to help my situation yet a manager had to overhear to get involved.

I attempted to cancel all the accounts on my card- As I was told upon initial sign up that I could use my card for myself and for my friend who would be joining as well that day. So upon canceling I let the manger know I needed to cancel all accounts under my card. He told me that he couldn’t even find my friends name anywhere. He assured me that no other names are coming up under my card or linked to my account so there wouldn’t be any billing to my card and that the other account didn’t even exist upon entering in the system. I found this odd-( maybe a fluke in the sign- up? ) but I trusted him and paid the remaining annual fees and left thinking my accounts were terminated.

2 months later I notice I’ve been billed each month 29.99. I call the gym and am told by a front desk rep that I need to speak with the business manager and that I need to email her my issue and she will get back to me even though she currently was at the gym . Finally she took my call and immediately was met with a cold unwillingness to believe anything I said went down how I explained in the initial exchange of improper cancelation. Instead of being understanding with what happened she was firm in her tone that what happened was a lack of me asking correctly to cancel the accounts back in September. I simply wanted to rectify the proper cancelation at this point and have some acknowledgment that there was error on their end of the cancelation. This was met with more dismissive attitude and an inability to have any consideration of the frustrations this whole dilemma has caused me. My final question how was this all possible that I was never able to see my card linked to both accounts when I initially tried to cancel at the gym and she explained it was for security purpose... security from me the cardholder??? She Hung up on me.

I was put on hold for 12 minutes after this exchange and finally had a manager assist me. I received no refund or even an apology from Golds Gym. Not worth the headache to join this branch .

PASS.

They are a month to month CONTRACT fitness center. Do not fall for the lies of no contract!
I only increased my rating because of the General Manager Charles, he solved my prior issue and I appreciate the resolution

I went to Golds Gym 3 times before I signed up to make sure I could easily get out of this membership if need be, I was told every time it was no problem, it was a no obligation month to month membership and I could cancel anytime, they told me to just submit a letter of cancellation, I was suspicious as to why they wanted my credit card account number to use for the membership when they said there was no obligation and I addressed my concern regarding. I submitted a letter of cancellation at the willow lawn location in Richmond Virginia the rep at the front desk said there was no management there to comeback tomorrow, so and handed me the letter of cancellation back. I came back the next day and the guy at the front desk said managers were in a meeting one would be with me shortly, I waited 15 to 20 minutes and finally ask again wherer the manager was as I wanted to end the membership do to health reasons, he went to check and came back with a cancellation form, I signed it and left, 5 months later I am getting a collection letter and phone call from an Indian collection agency in India for not only the monthly fee but also the yearly fee. This company totally misrepresents there membership guidelines and they refuse to cancel, I've already spoken to Charles Davis the General Manager and he said without the paperwork showing cancellation there was nothing he could do. They told me it was too late that the yearly fee was in process, I cancelled my credit card to stop payment 5 months ago before just speaking to the General Manager. He did nothing to accommodate my issue and gave me the number to ABC billing, called them and the rep said she couldn't help with that, they only collect the money. I called the collection agency and gave a verbal and will be submitting a written dispute of misrepresentation of Golds Gym Willow Lawn Drive in Richmond Virgina. There is no need for Golds Gym to reply to my comments like you did others as you have no intention for resolution. You are not sorry PERIOD.

Front desk is completely useless. Missed a class because they sent me to the wrong room more than once. The yoga equipment feels dirty and the floors are NEVER clean which is the last thing you want when doing yoga. It should be the instructors job to swifter the floor after every class. This seems to be how it is in the fan too.
