Stopped in from out of town with my son’s baseball team while in the area for baseball. We don’t have a Gold’s near our home but he wanted to check out one of the “Meccas” … and of course, get an iconic tank. The staffer at the desk, Zack was rocking a great mustache and was super friendly. He made a great shake for my son and they chatted a bit about pumping iron. Seemed like a great facility … staff is definitely welcoming. Well done!

Joins this gym a few months ago and did NOT sign a contract I couldn’t cancel. My contract states that the enhancement fee (once a year fee for) is $39 but they billed me $49 and blatantly told me it was an error but they will not be refunding my money!! Yes, I have the chain of emails and I have my contract. I went twice and stopped; I didn’t like a few things and decided another gym was more fit for me. I don’t like the idea having to use the same microfiber cloth to clean machines over and over by multiple people. I was also having to unrack multiple heavy weights (100 lbs) to then rack my own to exercise and I was very annoyed by that. The women’s private area in the back didn’t have ac or a ceiling fan so it was hot and some of the machines had cushions where I could feel the metal underneath. I should have cancelled from the very beginning but I procrastinated and was billed for 3 months however I should NOT have to go back and forth about an overcharge. I will get my money back for sure but the audacity for a company to do such a thing is beyond me.

I belonged to a couple different Gold's decades back and they were great. Not this one. We tried to cancel or pause our family membership during covid and they made it as difficult as possible and we had to pay extra months. Not a good experience. Maybe they have improved since then.

Absolutely one of the worst gym memberships I have ever had. During Covid they would NOT let you out of the contract for any reason. As many of us, I had no job during that time and they just kept taking my money after I asked multiple times for a way out. The gym itself is dirty, you can tell the machines don’t get cleaned. Plus you never see anyone cleaning the machines, whether it’s members or staff. American family fitness and golds have the EXACT same “protein” shakes which are more sugar and carbs than protein, and cost way too much for the small amount of ingredients. The “women’s area” is a sad excuse for a private area away from the gym bros. Barely any equipment or room and definitely not paid attention to by staff.
This is a sad and disgusting excuse for a gym.

I had a nightmare with the finances of this gym. I left my card on automatic debit and they charged me abusive amounts without control. Then I canceled the card and preferred to pay in person. Then they charged me more than once a month for the installment. The last time I went through a terrible embarrassment. I showed them the receipt that I had made the payment and even so they said that the system did not prove it. So I canceled my account at this gym. The personal trainer who helped me was rude and impolite and did not care to help me.

So, my low rating may be a bit deceptive. I don’t mean this is criticism but as a suggestion.
I was one of the first members and I love Mike and his staff.
Due to traveling, and some health reasons, I haven’t been going consistently for the past three years. However, I have started back in earnest.
But I am finding some of the equipment, especially the cable equipment in the middle of the gym is starting to get a little old in the tooth! Other than that the staff is still great. The fellow patrons all seem great. It’s just time to upgrade this little gym a bit more.

I came in to join this gym and the GM had no type of patience with me figuring out which membership I wanted, I almost had to force a walk around the gym after signing up, attitude was horrible. I got the child care included in my membership and for the first time as a FIRST TIME MOTHER trusted this gym to watch my child. Workers in the child care at this specific location (West broad) were way too comfortable to the point they brought my 8 month old baby outside the day care in the area where people work out at. I noticed it, confronted the worker about why my child is outside the child care where he can get injured at and the worker went back inside. I immediately left and the next day called to talk to the GM, well he had no remorse towards it, also asked me “well was he injured” trying to be sarcastic. Then proceeded to say well it’s no policy set in stone saying that the workers had to stay in the child care with your child. which is where I leave my child to be safe and you can just take my child outside of there. Didn’t like his attitude and all he said was “well I’ll let her know you don’t want your child outside the child care”. Let me remind you he’s only 8 months!! We went back and forth on the phone and he still showed no remorse or didn’t care about the safety of my child. I wanted to cancel my membership but the WONDERFUL GM at the Gayton location let me know my son was safe to come there and that he would love for me to continue to come to there gym which is the gym I like anyways because the hospitality and equipment is great there. The safety at this gym is not a concern at all and I will definitely be taking legal action about my son could’ve potentially gotten injured because there is no rule set in stone. GM IS TRASH HERE ! DO NOT GO ESPECIALLY IF YOU HAVE KIDS!! the child care is full of employees that are CHILDREN there selves. Also he literally wouldn’t give me owners information and stated that he doesn’t have that information and the owner doesn’t allow his information to go out.

The staff here have been wonderful, but Gold's policies around charges and cancellations have been a nightmare. I have been overcharged several times, totaling hundreds of dollars. The staff have assisted me to ensure I am refunded, but the predatory contracts and policies make over charging easy, and make it hard for the staff to help. Ran by a terrible GM who allows Mothers to be harassed and confronted in their gym by other gym members. After the Mother already having permission to bring her child, a beligerante member confronted her. The GM offered no sense of remorse because of close personal ties to the awful man. I used to go to this gym, once I lost my debit card and when I went to make the change so I could continue going they did it immediately at the counter without problems. Now I want to cancel my membership because I haven't been going for a couple of months and I don't plan to go again. I went to cancel my subscription and the guy at the counter informed me of the process (he was very kind) and he explained to me that I have to make the request via email, it will take them 5 to 7 days to respond to that email and that my request will only be a “30 day notice” which means that they will charge me an extra month even though they just charged me and I have approximately 4 months without using my membership. I don't understand why I have to pay for something I don't want and why they put these obstacles in place for canceling the subscription but for collections they can help you immediately.

Being a 5:30am gym-goer, how you’re greeted in the morning makes a huge difference in not only your workout, but your whole day. I’m disabled so having room to move around is important. The plate loaded machines are too close together. As are the other machines. It would also be nice if the plate loaded machines could have two 45 plates available for each side. Sometimes it is hard to find the weight I need for the exercise I use the machine for, it becomes time consuming and frustrating.

I came to this gym today bc it was close to my hotel. I signed up for a fitness pass through my job, which stated they partner with this gym. I was told that they do not participate, which is ok. The issue was the manager! He was super condescending and dismissive. He even told me to go to the gym in Willowlawn, which made me feel like he didn't want me there. I was trying to find other options bc I'm unfamiliar with the area & it was getting late. I left, called customer service & they advised me to get a guest pass for the day. I returned and was met with an extremely helpful young employee; he was pleasant, honed in on the interests I expressed through conversation, & sold me on another visit by informing on some exclusive amenities a other location had. I was finally feeling welcomed until the manager returned while I was signing up on the computers, and with a smug tone, asked if we needed help (the left monitor only has 1 purpose) so I was confused when he clearly seen the young man helping us. His attitude came from the fact that the young employee was actually talking to me & we began exchanging smiles. Then when we were leaving, he gave us back our IDs while avoiding eye contact & never responded to my "thank you, have a great night". He gave me a side eye, looking down at me, & continued laughing and smiling with the white guest. I felt so hurt, small, insecure bc Idk what was done to make him want to make me feel like this.

I will never go back & currently not sure if I'd ever go back. My co workers had the same experience and tried to warn me about him, but I never take another's word for it.

Demote him & promote the young male employee.

This is my favorite gym in Richmond. The facility is well maintained, managed and equipped.

I love training in this facility because the equipment is top notch. This morning I trained legs. I used equipment that you won’t find in most gyms ie: vertical leg press, V Squat and pendulum press.

Luke(at the front desk) is one of the best gym employees I've ever engaged with. He is sooooo kind and considerate and ALWAYS speaks to me no matter how busy he is!!! I don't think I've ever seen him have a bad day and he's even memorized my name and frequent water purchases lol.
