Please is nice, one of the better Gold’s Gyms in the area. Roslyn is probably the nicest one, with Clarendon as number two and this is number three with Bailey’s as number four.

I take personally training here, it's quite good. Ask for Pablo. The equipment they have too is good. Only reason I am not giving it 5 starts is, because at peak hours it's too crowded.

Beware - Unethical business practices / scam.
The facility is clean and the equipment is nice, but please be aware that the contract they lock you into and their financial branch ABC Fitness Solutions is a predatory scam.
I signed up last year, and went to this gym for a few months. I tried to quit back in May. I have been trying to quit for months, but they just will not let me. They said I have quit, but then they keep adding charges to my account, and will not call me back to explain. I don't even live here anymore.
I refused to pay for a gym I already quit, and next thing I know they sent an exorbitant bill to an aggressive debt collection agency who threatens to go after your credit score / finances if you don't pay up.
I still don't know what the hundreds of dollars I supposedly owe are for. I have called multiple times, and each time they say someone will call me back, but they don't. They will ignore you so long as they can keep charging your card or just send your bill to debt collectors.
My experience is not a one-off anomaly. If you don't believe me, look up their record on Better Business Bureau. Look at the other reviews. Google around, look at Reddit. Golds Gym and ABC Fitness Solutions are a predatory scam, and this location is particularly bad.
There are better honest gyms in the area. Please save yourself from having to endure this.

Clean gym, but handles from the cable area are slowly disappearing and staff have no idea where they are. Also, some broken machines in the leg area for months now. Lastly, could use a good hack squat machine and hip thrust machine.

My favorite location for Golds, great staff and lots of equipment. They have a nice area for squatting and free weights. 5am is the best time to go because it does get crazy packed after work hours.

Gym was good but wouldn’t let me quit when I was moving out of state. I went in and asked to cancel but they said their membership person wasn’t in today. I kept trying for a couple weeks and got the same answer every time. Eventually I got their membership coordinator’s email address and sent an email asking to cancel my membership. I never heard anything back and kept being billed so I had to cancel my credit card on file and in return they sent me to collections. What a joke

This Golds is not worth the membership. The employees are lazy and the place is dirty. Upon cancelling my membership, Gold’s staff claimed there was a malfunction in the system even though they canceled my husband’s membership seconds before mine. Gold’s staff had me email a picture of my membership card and claimed they would cancel my membership by close of business. I later found out they only removed my automatic payment and continued to bill me racking up a claim. After getting collection calls, I contacted the gym and they said they have no record of cancelation. I eventually had to take it through a chain of people and customer support providing the email sent for cancellation to disputed the claim. I do not recommend. I would give zero stars if I could.

This gym is fine if you never plan to quit. From reading the reviews here, my experience is not unique. My account has been inactive throughout most of COVID. It was to go active again in May 2022 and I gave notice on 26 March that I would like to end my month-to-month membership. Management refuses to end my membership without charging me for another month. The only rationale is they "must" and "unfortunately". There is zero good reason for this money-grubbing policy. And it is a completely arbitrary interpretation of the policy that they have in writing! They also charged me a 27% increased fee with zero warning of an increase or opportunity to opt out. Gold’s now uses ABC Fitness as their billing company. ABC doesn’t care if you have every fact documented regarding your membership and cancelation they will continue to bill you and threaten you with collections until Gold’s tells them otherwise. For those having the same issues: Don’t give up!! File BBB complaints with both Gold’s South Arlington and ABC Fitness Solutions. I finally got ABC to close my account. With enough BBB cases Gold’s will eventually have to respond.

This gym is busy, but by far is my fave gold’s gym in the area. It has high ceilings tons of cardio machines, and a great weight selection. Overall, the layout of the gym makes more sense than most other gyms that I’ve been to. The spin room (when they have gym classes) is solid as well.

They will use any reason they can to get more money out of you. They increased my dues from $15 to $20.50 every other week out of nowhere. Yearly that is an increase from $390 to $533, or 36%. I didn't receive any heads up for the increase, and when I went in to speak with the staff at the front desk, they were quite dismissive and were not helpful, simply telling me to "check your spam folder" and stating that it was due to inflation.
Beyond the constant fees and price hikes there always seems to be equipment that is broken, loosely assembled, lights not working, broken water fountains, etc. The equipment selection is pretty standard, it has everything I need. But a 36% increase in dues out of nowhere is unacceptable.

Gold’s gym continued to charge me a full year after my contract ended during the pandemic. When I contacted them they not only would not give me a refund but insisted that I pay two more payments because I needed to give them 30 days notice. If I could give this place 0 stars, I would. The equipment is always broken, if you get the month to month contract you’ll have to give a 30 day notice which means you still have to pay within those 30 days. They truly enjoy giving out fees upon fees and do not give people the courtesy to waive them. Be careful what you sign up for so that you don’t end up paying more than what you received. Read through the policies and ask questions—don’t be like me!!!
Also—they don’t have strong enough WiFi to stream videos so say goodbye to watching any workout videos on your phone. For a gym so expensive you’d think they would at least have quality WiFi, but turns out they just want to make more money.

I’ve been a customer for about 5 years. I pay $30 a month to have the membership that allows access to all surrounding golds locations. But I guess 20 miles isn’t considered ‘surrounding’. It’s got the same name on the building right? But only works for 3 gyms, when there’s many more in my area. Don’t care about loyal customers just money I guess.

Really great and spacious facility, abundant machines, and friendly staff. Nice location too! But I have to address an odd/uncomfortable situation with the cleaning staff. Was there on a saturday morning/afternoon, used the locker room shower after my workout, and after getting out of the shower the cleaning WOMAN silently entered the male's locker room to clean without any seeming acknowledgement that she was surrounded by males in various states of undress. I had to go to a different part of the locker room to change out of her line of vision. There was no signage outside the locker room or announcement that the cleaning lady would need to clean it at a set time (unlike the former golds gym location at van dorn that had clear signage when cleaning would occur and would block off the locker room at cleaning time). Just a very off putting incident and one that I hope is addressed in the future.

Would not recommend. Signed up for a membership and was actively going for one year. After one year I noticed my membership went up in price without me being notified. The gym also charged a Covid -19 fee which is fine if we members could have actually seen where they had made any changes in the gym due to covid 19. During the pandemic the gym looked the same. There were the same amout of disfencting spray bottles before Covid, and some members did not wipe down their machines. There was no supervision or reinforcement of the wiping down of machines.
I contacted Lauren one of the managers 4 times to end my membership due to my military move and she ignored all emails and did not reply nor answer the phone. I also paid for a training pack and was never able to use it and they refused to refund me any of the money.

Been going here sense I’ve been stationed in Washington DC way better then the gyms on our base. Always friendly always clean. Follows guidelines extremely well. I’ve never had a problem here. Even when it’s very busy I can always find something to do. Plenty of gyms everywhere I highly suggest checking it out. It is a contract sign in so just be very determined you want to be fit. Plenty of resources to get you where you want to be.

I like the variety of exercise available at Gold's South Arlington, including exercise classes, individual exercise, and exercise with the help of a personal trainer. Each person has a different balance and there's enough variety to be satisfied here.
I am very happy with my personal trainer, Charles, and thoroughly enjoy morning exercise way more as a result. I wanted to give kudos also to Arleen and Shannon, who are two of the best front desk people who work here: if you have any questions or concerns ever, definitely reach out to them for help and they'll help you as best as possible. Please note that if you are doing step aerobics, there is a fit for your level here as all three regular instructors (Aline, Kate, and Chris) each have a different variety and do different levels of the same exercise for how athletic one is.
Please note now that the GGX squares are gone, I hope that they keep the exercise classes to no more than 20 when it comes time (they just increased it to 18 as of a few days ago) so that people who want to have space to themselves can feel safe doing so.

A truly excellent Gold's Gym location. Their facilities are vast and clean - they have plenty of all kinds of equipment, machines, and weights you could hope for in a fitness facility and rest/wash rooms that are clean and spacious. Their front desk area has a large shop with drinks and supplies and their staff is always friendly and numerous. Compared to other gyms or even other Gold's Gym locations I've been impressed - it's a standout primarily in terms of its offerings and service. The only thing to watch out for is the limited parking right in front! Given it's in a busy strip mall you'll likely have to park somewhere along it and then walk to the facility.

This gym is in desperate need of some upgrades. It just feels very old inside, with poor lighting and out-dated equipment. I mostly went for the Les Mills classes, but the Tuesday body pump class was always very poorly attended (less than 10 people), and when I tried other classes, the instructor failed to show up, on multiple occasions. The group fitness studio was also unorganized, with piles of things scattered around the edge of the room, and the equipment was very old and worn out. The small parking lot didn't make it easy to get in and out either.

Needs better equipment and also maintaining it. Adjustable benches are always loose and not secure which could lead to an injury. I feel like there should be more options for equipmet, now dont get me wrong there is a lot but the equipment is cheap and given what Golds name is all about it is just too commercialized. No longer is Golds for the hardcore and people looking to get into top shape. If it were then they would have the necessary equipment to help you achieve your fitness goals. Its amazing how corporate golds and franchise golds differ so much in equipment and operations. Seems like two different companies. I could write forever but golds wont last forever around the DMV once better options become more appealing amd priced right for what you get.

It’s overall a nice gym with newer equipment, but there are just some things that don’t make it great. Most gyms nowadays have a water refill station but golds only has one set of water fountains that give out lukewarm water. I don’t know about you, but I’d like cold water when I’m sweating and working out. The bathrooms are clean most of the time. I’ve definitely seen people working out here in jeans and/or dangley earrings squatting with horrible form and taking up the nice racks, so that kind sucks, especially when you just need to get your sets done. That’s not necessarily golds fault though. I don’t know, I’ll continue going here for convenience and because there’s no better options in the area. Long story short gets the job done at a good price.

I highly recommend this gym. Let me start off by saying that the staff is great and that they really care about the safety of their members. I was pretty new to lifting when I first joined, so I was not to familiar with a lot of the equipment. I attempted to use the flat bench press. I put about 14.5 plates on one side of the bar and about 4 plates on the other. I thought that this imbalance in weight would help account for the sheer muscular strength of my one arm due to daily vigorous self pleasure. I was mistaken. As I attempted to lift the bar a staff member stopped me immediately and asked, "what in the world are you doing?" and I responded saying, "I am trying to work my pound arm off. Got a problem with that bud?". To my ignorance I was unaware that the 14.5 plates were going to be on the non-pound arm because I have no sense of direction. Thankfully the staff member pointed it out and switched the weights, so no that the 14.5 plates were on the side with my pound arm and the 4 plates were on the other. The staff member said, "That's more like it. Now do that pound arm justice". Thank you GoldsGym

Greed Exposed.
I have been a member for 3 + Years. I recently went with my girlfriend to go to the gym and we wanted to use a 3-day pass for her. She had a valid ID, but not a Virginia ID.
The gym only had a handful of people in there and the staff refused to let her use the 3-day pass because she did not have a state ID. Given she lives in the area.
They wanted to see my girlfriend's lease agreement to prove she actually lived there. Then they made a big deal about her living in Alexandria and not Arlington.
Nevertheless, he didn't let her in and we didn't want to pay 15 dollars because this was her first time.
I will be cancelling my membership this month.
You lost a customer due to your greedy policy. That's countless years of membership profit lost because you wanted 15 dollars for a day pass.
Also, towards the end, He said "Do you want me to contact the manager"... Dude I just want to lift with my girlfriend.

Manager and fat out of shape salesman have started to make this place unfriendly. Harassing people for their bags, but picking and choosing when and who to enforce their “no bag” rules. Unfriendly trainers also get in your face about “dropping” weights when deadlifting saying you’re going to “break the floor...” insisting that you put 405lbs down gently like a feather. Also have complained about broken equipment that goes unfixed for weeks. Then there’s the dirty locker rooms and toilets. You’d be lucky to find soap or Paper towels, and the one functioning drinking fountain spews Luke warm water at best. Bring back powerhouse.

The gym has good equipment, and the gyms around it are worse. That's about all it has going for it, as the LA fitness down the road only has those useless polygonal plates and the Sport and Health in Crystal City is double the cost.
Gold's Gym was once a proud establishment that introduced weight training to the masses. Now, half the gym's floor space is taken up by cardio equipment with TVs so people never have to look away from a screen, even while working out. Seems like a pretty good step towards WALL-E to me.
Oh, and don't plan on doing anything heavy here. They don't allow chalk, so good luck gripping your deadlifts. And no keeping your bag with you, so if you're a lifter who uses a belt, straps, and wraps, well, you're apparently no longer the clientele Gold's is after. Maybe they're worried you'll intimidate people, and this is just part of the Planet Fitness-ization of the gym industry. Maybe they're worried that, now that half their equipment has televisions attached, they can't trust the membership to look away from their screens long enough to avoid tripping over a bag. I don't know.
What I do know is this part of town desperately needs a gym friendly to strength training, and this ain't it.

Not sure about all these negative reviews. You should be going to a gym for the equipment and atmosphere, not white glove service. This isn't the Ritz-Carlton lol. Anyways, this Golds is hands down superior to the one on Wilson Blvd... much newer equipment, cleaner facilities, more laid back vibes, although still pretty test at times haha. All in all, I'd say it's the best Golds in the area so I'm happy with my membership, considering it's only like $34/month. 👍

Although this Gold's Gym location has recently replaced equipment I continue to find the management style of the staff to be lackadaisical - including a general lack of attention to cleanliness in the locker room, especially shower stalls (e.g. tufts of hair and various pieces of trash around the lockers and in the stalls). A number of weightlifters come in, put on headsets, and repeatedly drop the weights with a loud thud, which appears to be totally acceptable. Although this location is most convenient for me I am shopping around for a better managed gym.

I’m from out of town, I’m a Golds member and told them that and that I understand my pass wouldn’t work for this location. I was told I would have to pay to get a one day pass. What I was asked to pay for 1 day is over 50% of what I pay for a month so I declined. I went online and signed up for the free 7 day pass through Golds corporate which works for all locations I’ve been told. When I went back inside a male staff member jumped over and was very rude and told me I couldn’t use that pass “because”. I thanked the female staff (who was very friendly) I was working with and left.

0 stars.
I am writing this review after trying to contact the staff and headquarters for almost 4 months. I froze my membership due to a medical injury and as per the gym policy, presented in-person with a doctor's note. I signed all the necessary paperwork and still was being charged for 3 months of full membership. I called my credit card company and blocked Gold's Gym from taking out any additional money. I have been calling and emailing everyone and anyone to provide a refund for the membership charges. No one has gotten back to me, not even corporate headquarters.
Last time Monique Perry from the gym called me, she stated they had LOST my note from my doctor's office and no one had filed the Freeze paperwork. She has not responded to my emails since January 17.
If you are fraudulently being charged from this gym, I suggest you block them from taking out any additional money from your credit card company, because they'll keep taking money out if you don't. This company takes advantage of its members and will ACTIVELY STEAL money from you, even if you follow their policies and procedures. This is not only a branch issue, but a company wide issue.

Would give ZERO stars if I was able to. Nonexistent customer service in this location. Communication severely lacking and management barely available to answer any questions. No one goes out of their way to make members feel the way they should. Would never recommend.

I was a longtime member, but I will not return to any Gold's Gym in the future. I've made eight documented phone calls and have spoken with 5 separate associates (Including manager Robert who's name also appears on the website) since March 3rd attempting to cancel a membership that was no longer under contract. I continued to receive billings from Gold's gym after multiple assurances that my account had been closed and after being told that I would be refunded for several months of charges after my initial cancellation request in March. Each time I speak with them now, I'm told I will be refunded and that I will receive and e-mail or call confirming it, but no further communication ever happens.
I originally planned to cancel my membership for a short time then return to Gold's, but this experience has turned me off to Gold's Gyms permanently and I would not recommend them to others. Even without a contract obligation, they seem unable or unwilling to handle very basic billing processes. It has been 5 months since my first cancellation request.
I made yet another call today and was told again that the manager would call me this afternoon on my cell. I waited a while longer to see if this might be resolved, but once again it appears there will be no call back to me. I'm now beginning the dispute process with through my credit card company.

The gym isn't bad, but the AC doesn't work on the weight floor right now, making working out here pretty miserable. It's very warm and humid. I'll give stars back if they fix it, but it's been a couple weeks so far and there's been no improvement. I definitely wouldn't join at this time.
Edit: AC working; gym decent again.

Not sure if they are reading these comments. I signed up online on August 31, couldn't go until yesterday September 12. The front office couldn't find me in the system, but let me work out only for once, they guy was nice within his limited authority. I couldn't find time to talk to the member service, went again today, had the authorization and transaction codes I received during the online sign up, but the front office wasn't able to find me in the system; so he turned me away. So far, they have withdrawn twice from my account, but I am not in their system to let me work out. Is this a system? I will talk to the member service today and cancel my membership.
So I went to cancel my membership; the sales person convinced me to stay with them by crediting the next bi-weekly fee to my account which was due on September 23rd. I wanted to give it another try, but it didn't work, they withdrew from my account. I called the general manager who has responded to my first review here, guess what, he had no clue and he couldn't find any notes on such an agreement in the system, and the sales person wasn't working that day either. The general manager promised to leave a message for the sales person who would be on duty on Sunday ( Sep 25) to call me to discuss. I didn't get any calls till 2 pm, I myself called, the sales person said he didn't have any messages from the manager, he also said that he was very busy and would call me back in a couple of minutes, guess what, he never called back. I went to the gym my self, but he had already left.
I also found out that to cancel membership, you need to call the customer care; the gym itself cannot cancel it, and that cancellation is very complicated. I am still under the 30 day money back guarantee, I will call them tomorrow and see what a story is this membership cancelation through the customer care and how this 30 day money back guarantee works.
Meanwhile I wish reviews had minus star rating. I will be back soon with the ending paragraph.
So, the "30 day money back guarantee" is another scam; there is no money back. I am happy it is over; I hope so.
Advice for you; stay away from this place!

Planet Fitness with a squat rack.
I signed up for their "VIP pass" for a free week trial while I was visiting the area. I even bought a golds gym stringer to give back. On the last day there I made the mistake of mentioning I was l headed home and the guy up front made me pay $15 for a "day pass". I pay $10 for a MONTH at my gym ABC fitness in Latham, NY. The guy was completely rude and uninviting. I will never get a membership at golds.

As a new member the sales team is not pushy, which is so important to me! Most gyms in the area attack you with some forced walk around of their gym, like somehow a walk will better allow you to understand what a locker room is.
The gym allowed me to work out a few times, pressure free. The tanning beds, boxing area, sauna, locker rooms, showers, lockers (bring your own lock/not overnight), front desk staff, manager were all deciding factors when choosing this gym.
There is only one lifting platform with plates necessary for PRs and olympic weight lifting. The wait for one of the four squat racks can get pretty lengthy (>20 minutes). Unlike other "meathead" Gold's there are members who do arm curls in the squat racks and even do some form of burpees, squats, and jumping routines in the squat racks, take that as a positive or negative. To me- it's unbelievably frustrating. But other than changing the environment of the gym these members will always feel welcome at a diverse gym, which is a positive.
This gym offers a small functional area, offering medicine balls of all weight ranges, box jumps, battle ropes, kettlebells, free weights, jump ropes, bands, and more I'm sure I haven't used yet. This area is not around any mirrors and is directly in front of personal training offices. It is big enough for 3 workouts to be done consecutively, not without feeling like you may be in someones way.
The cardio room always seems to have a packed class- which to me would indicate good instructors and awesome classes offered. There's a cycling studio and movie theater.
I am happy with my switch from another Gold's location to this one!

I am going to disagree with others. While I like the gym itself -- including cardio machines, showers, free weights -- even the cardio cinema (nice touch!), the staff is unbelievably rude. They act like adolescent meat heads. I feel like I have to be "cool" to generate any respect from them. Dare I act enthusiastic or positive, and they are dismissive and if I ignore them and just brush them off for their rudeness, they are pleasant and nice. What they exhibit is a high school mentality. Several times after swiping my card they have aggressively shoved my keys/card back into my hand. Reception rarely makes eye contact or says good bye. I am so tired of the arrogant, ignorant, "I'm too cool for school" attitude at the front desk, that I just ignore those bratty kids....and then they are polite, since they think I'm acting too cool for them and they want to be acknowledged...Acknowledge them back and act normally friendly and you get the attitude again. Horrendous. Be consistenly friendly, staff, and grow up! Act mature.

Good gym. Good equipment and not much of a wait. Lousy parking but it's Arlington, after all. Great staff and it seems like most folks are there for the classes so the floor isn't too packed.
