Hands down the best gym in the Richmond area. The variety of equipment they have is unmatched and thoughtfully laid out. Friendly staff and always clean. For reference I have been to almost every gym in the Rva area and none come close for overall experience. If you go to the gym to ACTUALLY workout, this place is for you.

Overall, it is a nice gym, but the consistency and quality of the staff leaves something to be desired in a big way. They change over early morning staff almost every couple of months, and there have been multiple occasions that no one showed up to open the gym in the morning with multiple members simply waiting in their cars in the parking lot. I suggest avoiding hiring teenagers for a job that many adults depend on each morning. Additionally, Many of the staff hardly acknowledge your presence when you walk in, even when you greet them.

My wife and I joined a little over a year ago under what we believed was a 12-month agreement. When we tried to cancel, we were told it was actually 15-18 months (canβt remember which). Iβm certain we would have remembered agreeing to that. Frustrating, but fine. We decided to proceed with canceling anyway.
Thatβs when the real nightmare began. The staff here are unprofessional, unhelpful, and downright rude. I called to get the correct cancellation email, the first one they gave me was wrong. I called again, and the second time I was given yet another incorrect email. Only after being transferred to a manager did I finally get the right address, but that conversation was met with condescension and attitude.
When we first joined, we were excited, but it didnβt take long to notice the gymβs poor upkeep. Machines are often neglected, the place is dirty, and basic things like towels to wipe down equipment are rarely available. Even the windows are constantly covered in fingerprints (A small detail that speaks volumes about the lack of care here).
At the end of the day, the facilities are mediocre, but the staffβs lack of professionalism is what has permanently ruined Goldβs Gym for me. I will never return, and Iβd strongly recommend you take your money elsewhere.

UPDATE: the gym has opened up on time for the last several months. Having the βbackupβ people opening has resolved this issue.
I really love this gym however there have been several times where the employees never show up at 4:00am. Itβs frustrating when this is the only time you can workout during the day!!!

Added this on Yelp a while back, but I felt like it needed to be on here as well so everyone is informed.
Currently looking for a gym as I moved to a new home. From a first time visitor POV:
Pros:
- Doesn't look like a crowded gym. Pool was empty, machines were available, sauna wasn't too crowded.
- Pricing - $37 a month is what I was told during the time of my visit.
- If you keep to yourself and don't care about quality in the gym, this might be a good spot.
Cons:
- Giving this two stars due to this. Would give it less, but the girl at the front counter was actually very nice. However, I came in as a potential future member and waited over 20 minutes before I could come in. Asked for Greg, who looks to "run" this place, but was told he was playing basketball and should be out in a moment. Silly that I would think someone on the clock would be able to help me out. After waiting for Greg, sure enough he comes out from the courts covered in sweat and not the friendliest of people. He gave me a tour, but throughout all of it, I was just wishing it would end and he would go back to playing basketball. Not sure if he could see I was not happy already, but he brought this WAY down. If he did notice, he did nothing about it. If he didn't, that's part of the issue too.
- Pool didn't look super clean (neither did the rest of the gym)
- Machines look old.
- Basketball court is half court.
- Nothing here seemed to stand out.
Been a member of a few Golds gyms in my lifetime and this is by far the worst one I've visited. Shout out to the girl behind the counter avoiding this being a 1-star review.

Cancelling my membership.
I have numerous complaints.
1. You guys raised the price of my membership without letting me know through email, text, or anything
2. You guys charged me a yearly fee of like $50 without AGAIN letting me know through email, text, or anything
3. I was told by a front desk employee at the Westchester location that I could use the tanning beds whenever I wanted. I specifically asked twice if I needed to add anything onto my membership or anything first to use them and I was told no. I asked very clearly about using them and was given very clear answers. However, I went to try the tanning beds out and was kicked out rather rudely from using them and was told it was an additional fee to my membership to be able to use them and that I needed to sign a waiver.
Highly disappointed. Everyone Iβve ever known who has gone here always complains about mostly billing, or something further. Itβs ridiculous. Never changes.
I wouldnβt mind being refunded that yearly fee I didnβt agree to! Or for this months membership since Iβm not using it and havenβt been since last being charged my updated price I wasnβt informed about! Itβs the least that could be done for the inconveniences. But since itβs all about the money here β I wouldnβt be surprised if you guys just took it and ran.

Nice facility, lots of equipment. Very clean. I would give 5 stars but some of the machines are in need of repair and have been for a long time. Also too much cell phone use on the exercise floor. Machines tied up while the person who is suppose to be using it is scrolling or texting on their phone. Equipment should be used for training not relaxing on . Go home and lay on the couch if you just want to be on your phone.

Horrible customer service - The guy I spoke to was really rude (I think maybe his name was Tony) and had nothing but an attitude the entire conversation. The GM was friendly when I spoke to him, but that is about the only positive I have to say. I do not recommend Gold's as a whole, but specifically this location. If you're going to spend the money, spend it somewhere where you aren't lied to upon entering a ridiculous (and non cancellable/ non transferrable) contract. Worst customer service from them and Taft Services I have experienced in a long time.

Always an enjoyable time at Goldβs in Midlothian, VA. Great staff who always welcoming and supportive from the moment when I arrive. Great cadre of trainers! Having the Physical Therapy group is most helpful as well. For sure, all the folks who are pumping, pressing, lifting, training in general are terrific folks as well. Great place where just one hour of workout flys by!

The gym needs to put towels out at the spray bottles for wiping off machines, like we had before Covid. The gym also needs to improve Wi-Fi service. It drops out constantly while listening to music during a workout.
Also, some of the equipment, especially upstairs, is in need of maintenance. Lockers in the menβs locker room are in need of maintenance. I donβt know what to do about this but too many member sit on machines looking at their cell phones instead of working out. This ties up equipment unnecessarily.
I still like this gym but age is beginning to show itself.

I am not a member of Golds. My friend Meg, a yoga instructor at this gym invited me to her class as her plus 1. This was also so that I could get a feel for the gym. I arrived a few minutes before class started with my yoga mat in hand, ready to unwind! I explained why I was there. The front desk asked me to sign a waiver on the iPad. Cool. Understandable. The General Manager Greg Smith then asked for my ID. I asked why wasnβt me signing the waiver enough. It asked personal contact information. He was persistent that I needed my physical ID. I expressed that I left it in my car and I parked all the way in the back. I had no idea this would be necessary for a yoga class. At this point the class had already started. I tried to reason with Greg asking can I bring the ID after the class or if he could walk me to the class hisself so he can see that I know the instructor. But no. He was adamant. I ended up turning around and walking out the gym. This is upsetting because I was a potential member. For me to be turned away was not showing good judgement on a General Managers end.

My family and I have been members of this gym for years. It has consistently scored a 2-star in my opinion. The reason being, it's not customer centric. It runs its own operation based on what they think makes sense without considering feedback from their customers. These are some examples, it still can't figure out how to go back to a 24/7 schedule, though that's what it used to advertise. Initially it was the pandemic but now there's no excuse, just convenience on their end to do one thing versus the other. The daycare hours suck. The window time is 4:30-7:00 pm Mon-Frid and 9:00am to noon on the weekends. Once I submitted some feedback about this issue, as it's definitely not considering parents whose kids get out of school around 4:30-5pm, and it's difficult to make that timeframe and still have a good workout. On the weekends, it makes way more sense to have afternoon hours in addition to morning hours, but I guess they don't want to pay for that service. Lastly, they switched to an odd system to how you wipe out the equipment. Instead of offering wet/disposable wipes, they have towels that they wash and dry daily. Well, this is good if it's always available. Many times, especially during very busy hours, these are not available and you're given a piece of paper to clean up your equipment, only accessible at front desk.. it's such a bad customer experience. Lastly, again, looking at their own gains while downgrading customer experience, they switched to a whole bunch of product on the smoothie bar that are less natural and definitely unhealthy compared to the selection they had in the past (real fruits, grains, organic powder, different types of milks, etc). Lastly, they take FOREVER fix their broken equipment. I noticed that the same treadmills have been broken on the second floor for over 7 months.
Also, the cleaning service is really bad. I always use the same locker and it has had the same cup stain for over a month now. Pretty gross.
So all in all, aside from having equipment to work with in a nice place of town, it is not worth the money. American Family Fitness seems to be better from what our friends say and we may choose to switch to this center.

Joined for 12 months. At the end of that year Golds continued to debit my account. After speaking with them β¦I was informed Golds extended me to a money saving 18 months (lol). Now 19 months in they are still stealing from me! Help someone! Beware of giving them your account information as they will not stop taking your money. I am 65 year old veteran and my insurance would have paid. I will never be a member here again!

I noticed the TVs on the wall never work. It would be nice to have sports and news up on the TVs while doing cardio. Been a member since 2018 and really like this gym but some equipment seems to be aging and cleanliness is not the greatest. Just my opinion since there is a lot of competition in the area.

Rules of the gym are rarely enforced, creating an atmosphere of mis management. Iβm tired of removing weights from equipment that Iβm about to use . People using their cell phones while working out frustrates me . Some of the equipment is in need of repair and not fixed. When broken , it takes too long to be repaired. I have been a member for several years, never have I seen anyone of authority enforce any of the rules posted through out the gym. I can go on and on but donβt think any improvements will be ever be made.

Great gym! Clean, well lit, with a nice mix of equipment. Plenty of room to get a great workout. The staff is professional and courteous and the trainers are knowledgeable, accessible, and eager to help if you need them.

GOLDβ GYM IS A RIP OFF!!!!
If there was any lower rating I would give it to them!
They continued to bill me through discover card even though I told them over 6 months ago that I would not be a member anymore.
When I went to the gym to speak directly to the manager and I expressed my concerns he promptly got up and walked off!
This month they sent a bill of $138 to my discovery card even though my membership is supposed to be $20 a month! Discovery card personal apparently will bill me even though I am no longer a member so be ware if you are tempted to join Goldβs gym based on my experience.

I love the mind body group fitness studio here. It smells like essential oils and has huge windows, which makes the space more open and inviting than other studios. It seems fairly quiet and peaceful. It's easy to hear the music and teachers without a mic. There isn't a lot of noise from the rest of the gym.

Ran out of towels again. Not sure why you cannot buy more yellow towels. No towels mean people cannot wipe down the equipment and things are dirty. Buy some more towels there cheap.

Some machines have been down for weeks, i.e. two eliptical machines. Towels arenβt readily available. Womenβs gym is lacking stackable platforms and fixed barbell rack.

The gym is great! Has at least 6 power racks with multiple specialty bars such as a duffalo bar, safety squat bars, camber bars, and etc. Has 2 westside competition bench press racks. Staff is young but friendly none the less. One kid handed me my smelling salts I left behind once. Greg I believe is the owner and is a stand up guy. I owe him a lunch for letting my kids hang out in the kid zone on a holiday. Just missing a hot tub and my kids think they can add a few more things in the kidzone for fun. Overall a great experience for novice to experience lifters of all types. Price is also fair but I do hope they add a hot tub later on, just saying.

I worked out my issue with their customer service. Just be careful with the terms you sign and that your debt is handled by a third party (Taft) who often does not handle customer service well.

With a slightly friendlier and more helpful staff and better maintenance of equipment, Iβd give them 5-stars. The locker rooms are clean which is important to me. The layout of the gym is well thought out.
Only about half the bikes in the cycle room work properly. UPDATE: Only about half the bikes function correctly, so make sure you get to class early. Also, the air conditioner in some parts of the building has been out for 3 weeks.
The instructors are all amazing.

The worst experience I have ever had. GREG a guy who works there came and got me and my kids 2 minutes after I walked in and told me I had to pay for a day pass when I have been a member at this gym for over 5 years. I told him I would pay for my kids who are (under 13) on my way out ; who usually go to the day care but daycare being closed and said no I would have to pay immediately. I can pay for a drink through my account but me being a member and not having to pay for my kids who are part of my plan to begin with? I will be canceling my membership and I donβt recommend anyone coming to this location! I walked out and I wonβt be returning with this behavior. Raising his voice and walking up to me and my kids like we committed a crime. I donβt know who hired him or thinks this type of behavior is appropriate. Not to mention I am pretty sure he had his own children with him as wellβ¦ if I could give 0 starts I would. I will gladly pay more at a gym where people are actually FRIENDLY or maybe even pretendβ¦
