GSMA has excellent, high quality karate training as well as a strong community. Sensei Doss also chooses a different character trait each month for the students to learn and model. He spends time after class explaining and exhorting the students to apply this to their own life. The instructors and staff are incredibly kind and outgoing, from the moment I walked in on my first day I felt warmly welcomed. They offer classes for adults as well as kids. Anyone from any level will feel challenged in class. Joining GSMA is one of the best decisions I made for myself this year.

Grand Slam Martial Arts creates the most encouraging environment. My son struggles with social anxiety, atypical aspergers, and amixed receptive expressive disorder. Yet, while there, he is reserved but never uncomfortable. Sensei Doss is an all conclusive instructor who focuses on essential life skills such as accountability, goals, positivity, confidence, education, moral, initiative, etc. Grand Slam is very person centered and Doss takes the time to send students personalized recordings on their progress while still positively encouraging them to work on skills that need improvement. Grand Slam also does a fantastic job with keeping adults updated on schedule changes and events that are happening outside of instructional days.

I can't say enough good things about Grand Slam and Sensei Doss. He is one of the best in the world at what he does. My daughter is 6 and she has gained so much confidence, self control, and respect. Sensi Doss works with them on becoming leaders and the qualities that that entails (loyalty, kindness, encouragement, etc). Grand Slam is an amazing Martial arts program. Jeff Doss is an amazing sensei who takes the time to learn your child and to coach your child into becoming more than just good at Martial arts, but incorporates life lessons to help your child grow mentally. Our daughter has been a member of Grand Slam for a little over 2 years now and I have been amazed at her development. She has faced fears, worked through them, and learned to overcome them and still is today. Sensei Doss is patient and understanding with the students, especially the young ones; she was only 5 when she started. The older students and higher belts are also very supportive and helpful, which is the environment Sensei seems to have created in the dojo. She feels like a part of the team and is now competing in tournaments in front of hundreds of people, remembering and performing stuff I cannot believe she can do at only 7 years old. I recommend Grand Slam Martial Arts to anyone young or old for the supportive environment that pushes the students to grow beyond what they think their ability may be but at their own pace.

My daughter (aged 7, DXed ADHD and possible ASD) has been attending classes at Grand Slam Martial Arts since early December 2020, and not only loves going but has shown tremendous growth in her focus, discipline and confidence. Sensei Doss and his team teach the students respect, discipline, focus, and they lead by example.

My favorite part is watching her growth in character and in skill. One of my favorite things they do each class is the dojo talks, where Sensei teaches them about concepts such as loyalty, courtesy, respect (just to name a few) and discusses how they can apply these concepts in everyday life. I was on the fence initially- but it truly has done wonders for my ADHD kiddo, not only in class but also in her academics and at home.

My wife and I decided to enroll our 3 kids in Grand Slam Martial Arts. We were looking for something to help motivate them as well as re-affirm qualities we were trying to teach suck as dedication, determination, and discipline. We found that with Sensei Doss as he truly combines the teaching of character as well as the martial arts . He asks how they are feeling or how their day was. Grand Slam has gone above and beyond ...especially during Covid times....and reached out to our community offering daytime classes to help with schoolwork as well as offering multiple classes and camps during the day as well as evenings. Thry even over online classes to help with those in quarentine or simply just cant make it that week. The environment is professional and ciurtious and I couldnt ask for a more valuable quality to teach my kids and take them to. They look forward to their lessons and this has become something they look forward to attending multiple times a week. A+ rating. I am writing because I highly recommend Glam Slam. My nephew has been a student for three years and he looks forward to class, belt challenge test and special events hosted by their company. I am proud to see a program support young people in the community and teach them to give back and/or support local efforts themselves. The program not only teaches respect for authority, discipline and protective skills, but teaches valuable life skills that will stay with them for years to come. The program fosters encouragement, teaches self-worth and not be satisfied or complacent, but strive toward daily improvement. The instructors develop a rapport with the class members and not only work with them in the classroom setting, but long to personally know the students and help utilize their best learning style. I would recommend Glam Slam for all ages. They offer in person classes, individual sessions, virtual learning, and after school/fun day programs. They also have perfected the cleaning processes and wear mouth coverings to offer a safe, sterile environment regarding COVID and social distancing.

Grand Slam in Rustburg, Va is one of the best decisions we’ve made for our girls. The owners and staff are absolutely amazing! They are kind, patient, but stern. Very helpful to the students when they see one struggling. I love watching our girls learn different techniques as to what their bodies are capable of. They are ages seven and three and love it, even through their mood swings lol. Most importantly to me, they are learning self defense and discipline but in a fun way with a group! The kids and parents are spaced out, following covid guidelines. It’s definitely a must-try!

Our son has been a student at Grand Slam for 3 years and I am continually impressed with the program and the instructors. My 7 year old son started at Grand Slam in the fall. He struggles with ADHD, Oppositional Defiance, and Impulsivity. The discipline he has learned from karate has been a game charger for him. Each week we see him become more controlled both inside the Dojo and at home.

We love Grand Slam. We got started through our homeschool co-op, and over the summer we are making the trek to come out and visit his studio. It is worth the drive.
