Parents, please do your research on these child centers and their violations, especially when their licensed by the state. My child was inappropriately touch by another five-year-old and another group of children also showing their private area. I was lied to buy one of the associates there that they were aware of the situation in. They conducted disciplinary actions and had meetings with higher supervisors and it was a total complete lie. .

I was treated very unfairly when it came to me complaining I reached out to the state licensing board and child protective services. Both are being investigated. Please do not bring your children to the sensor. Could you imagine your five year-old coming home telling you that she was forced to kiss another child and also that child showed her private area the counselor at the time there said it's a lot of things going on at that YMCA that should not be happening, which is the same person that lied to me and told me that her and her too supervisors above her had a meeting about the inappropriate touching that happened inside of the YMCA once was there never no incident report reported to the state license and board.

The YMCA does not have the kid zone open on Saturday. It closed at 12 noon and should stay open until 5pm. Also it would be nice if they cleaned the bathrooms you can smell urine in the main lobby. The people at the desk acted like they couldn’t smell it but everyone else could. It was so bad I put on my disposable mask. The custodial needs to really clean the bathroom and do checks often. It was bout 2pm and the managerial staff needs to do better

This location is TERRIBLE for swim classes. If I could give 0 stars I would. Signed our son up for classes here and the first class was canceled. Second class went ok. Then the third class was ALSO canceled. On the fourth class they stuck our son in a higher class that he wasn’t even supposed to be in. Why, I have no idea! He couldn’t do anything that the other kids were doing and the teacher was being so rude to our son (bigger male with short curly hair) for not knowing how to do these things when he wasn’t even supposed to be in that class! A real good way to make a kid scared of water. Do not go to this location for swim classes. We should have just been refunded for that class instead of them putting him in a higher up class for who knows what reason and not even discussing it with us. Very unprofessional

* I LOVE THE YMCA MOST OF THE TIME & I AM VERY APPRECIATIVE OF THIS ORGANIZATION BECAUSE OF THE BEAUTIFUL FACILITIES, THE FAMILY ORIENTED ATHMOSPHERE, THE CARING STAFF, & THE JUDEO-CHRISTIAN BIBLICAL VALUES OF SPIRIT-MIND-& BODY!
HOWEVER, I HAVE A BIG COMPLAIN ABOUT THE INDOOR SWIMMING POOL SCHEDULE CLOSURE FROM 1 PM TO 3 PM ON WEEKDAYS. IN ADDITION THE GREENBRIER YMCA CLOSES THE POOL FOR AN ADDITIONAL HOUR ON MONDAYS & WEDNESDAYS. FROM 12 NOON TO 1 PM I WAS TOLD BY THE FRONT DESK THAT THEY ARE HELPNG ANOTHER YMCA BECAUSE THEY DON'T HAVE ENOUGH LIFEGUARDS. THE PROBLEM IS THAT BY CLOSING THE INDOOR SWIMMING POOL, THE GREEBRIER YMCA IS NOT TAKING CARE OF US MEMBERS WHO USE THE POOL EVEN THOUGH WE ARE PAYING A MONTHLY MEMBERSHIP! THE DIRECTORS OF THE GREENBRIER YMCA ARE NEGLETING THE MEMBERS OF THE YMCA IN ORDER TO TAKE CARE OF ANOTHER YMCA WHO APARENTLY DOES NOT HAVE ENOUGH LIFEGUARDS (AS I WAS INFORMED). THE PROBLEM IS THAT THE Y MEMBERS ARE BEING LEFT OUT OF THE SWIMMING POOL AVAILABILITY.
* THIS IS NOT ACCEPTABLE IN MY OPINION, SPECIALLY SINCE WE ARE PAYING FOR A YMCA MEMBERSHIP. MAYBE, THE YMCA SHOULD GIVE US A REFUND TO COMPENSATE THE INDOOR SWIMMING POOL DAILY CLOSURES & THE ADDITIONAL CLOSURES ON MONDAYS & WEDNESDAYS. I AM SURE THE MCA WOULD NOT APPRECIATE IF WE DIDN'T PAY THE FULL PRICE OF THE YMCA MEMBERSHIP.
* THE GREENBRIER YMCA NEEDS TO FIND A DIFFERENT WAY TO ASSIST OTHER YMCA'S WITH THE SHORTAGE OF LIFEGUARDS BECAUSE THEIR PRIORITY SHOULD BE TO TAKE CARE OF THE MEMBERS USE OF THE INDOOR SWIMMING POOL. MAYBE THE AQUATIC DIRECTORS OF THE GREENBRIER Y AND THE Y THAT NEEDS ASSISTANCE COULD LIFEGUARD FOR AN HOUR BETWEEN 12 PM & 1 PM ON MONDAYS & WEDNESDAYS AND ENSURE THAT THE MEMBERS OF BOTH YMCA'S ARE TAKEN CARE OF CONSISTENTLY.
* WE DO NOT KNOW ALL THE DETAILS FOR THIS INDOOR POOL CLOSURES. BUT FROM OUR PERSPECTIVE AS MEMBERS WE SHOULD HAVE THE INDOOR SWIMMING POOL AVAILABLE & OPEN EVERY DAY INCLUDING FROM 12 PM TO 1 PM. AND FROM 1 PM TO 3 PM ON WEEK DAYS.
* THANK YOU FOR YOUR ATTENTION TO THIS MATTER!
!? !? !?

* TODAY AGUST 17, 2025
THERE WAS ONLY ONE LIFEGUARD ON DUTY: MIRANDA!
THIS YOUNG LADY SHOULD BE COMMENDED FOR HER OUTSTANDING JOB AT THE GREENBRIER YMCA SWIMMING POOL! SHE ACTED AS THE AQUATICS DIRECTOR, LIFEGUARD COORDINATOR & LIFEGUARD ON DUTY! SHE DID IT ALL BY HERSELF! I GIVE 5 STARS TO MIRANDA AND 1 STAR TO THE GREENBRIER YMCA! NO AQUATICS DIRECTOR AVAILABLE & NO YMCA GENERAL DIRECTOR EITHER! NO ONE CAME TO ASSIST HER AT ALL! I AM VERY THANKFUL FOR MIRANDA AND AT THE SAME TIME I AM VERY DISAPPOINTED OF THE AQUATICS DIRECTOR AND THE OVERALL GENERAL DIRECTOR! :( WHERE WERE THEY WHEN MIRANDA REQUESTED HELP!? MAYBE THE DIRECTORS SHOULD BE REPLACED AND MIRANDA SHOULD BE PROMOTED FOR HER OUTSTANDING JOB & DEMEANOR! CUDOS TO MIRANDA AND THUMBS DOWN TO THE GREENBRIER YMCA DIRECTORS! :(

I overall love the gym and the staff until today. A staff member was very rude. First staff I have ran into that was anything but amazing. I wanted mainly to bring this up as I know having a welcoming environment is crucial to a successful business. And I hope the environment won't slowly change because I truly love our gym.

I take my son here for summer camp and I wouldn’t recommend it. I didn’t receive an email or any information regarding what they would be doing and drop off times. I dropped off his change of clothes and the teacher said she would give them to my son, and he never received them. Definitely had better expectations and was highly disappointed. He will not be returning.

Worst YMCA ever. Kiddie pool is never open. Super restrictive pool rules for no reason. If kids can touch in a pool it shouldn’t be required for a parent to be in arms reach. I’m a mom with 6 kids and they make it impossible for me to bring my kids to the pool by myself. Super disappointing and incredible frustrating.

Would rate this particular Ymca a negative 0!! First of all the lady Denise at the front desk is very rude! A child was making loud noise and she acted as if she couldn’t concentrate with all the noise! Then we get in the pool and the lifeguards are being raci Quintin and another one of them told my kids to get from a certain section but let a white lady and her daughter swim in the same section he told my kids to get out! Would never attend this ymca again!

This is now the third week in a row that posted open swim hours have not been honored. I even texted this morning to confirm, and when we got to the pool, the open swim lanes were closed for private lessons. When I tried to make a complaint at the front desk, I was told that I need to speak to someone, but I wasn't given *any* phone numbers to call. For the record, membership costs around $100 per month, and because they close open swim for private lessons without any notice, we've now been unable to use our membership for three of the four paid weeks. Will be cancelling and not ever returning.

This YMCA has the worst customer service EVER! From the managers to the stay and play staff. You can’t possibly expect someone to trust these people with their children. Just horrible all around. I waited over 30 minutes to talk to a manager and still left with my concerns unheard while the front desk staff treated me like I was trash. After years, I think I’ll be cutting ties with the YMCA.

The Greenbrier Family YMCA is one of my favorite places to work out! It's affordable, which is a win because I feel like many gyms charge ridiculous prices these days. But here, you get so much for what you pay! They have tons of classes at a variety of times. My go-to's are kettlebells and Tabata--they're such killer workouts but in the best way.

One of the things I love most is that the instructors actually do the workouts with you, which is so motivating. Plus, they're super helpful if you need modifications--they just want you to feel good and do your best. And even though this is one of the smaller YMCAs, the vibe is always friendly and welcoming. Just a heads-up, though--weekend classes can get pretty packed, so I recommend showing up early if you want to grab a good spot!

I look forward to my workouts here, and it's such a great community. Whether you're a total fitness newbie or a gym rat, there's something here for everyone.

This place allows for racism and they didn’t take me seriously on the old staff member who made clearly loud racial remarks, coordinator pretending to write about my concerns on a post it note. YMCA is supposed to be family friendly, but they allow for this behavior that I bring my kids to.
Here they go today again, around me.

Second photo is my report a few months ago with specific time bc I know they have cameras in the wellness center. But I had to post this today because they didn’t take my report seriously.

The outdoor pool area needs work! Grass growing in cement cracks, leaves and gum balls all over concrete and the pool has leaves in it. The splash is dirty. I've been to several outdoor pools at other ymcas and this is the most unkept.

If I could give 0 stars I would do it because the DIRECTOR OF THE HAY POOL by the name of MARY ESCOBAR... unpleasant. And she was rude with a terrible attitude, yelling at minors and those with autism, absolutely everything bothered her in which we couldn't touch anything since she was screaming.
The truth is, if you come to have a good time, it's not the right place... they should change that type of person who doesn't know how to deal with people, much less children. She doesn't measure up badly

Phone number was blocked by the staff while trying to speak with my son during afterschool daycare on the phone. This was after I had authorization today from the director Sean Collins who said it was alright to speak with him over the phone. Had to contact my lawyers office shortly after so they could review my custody order. It’s one thing to ask for further clarification which I would have provided no problem. The fact that my number was blocked by the staff is not ok. I am allowed to speak with my son while he is at daycare or with a babysitter. This whole thing was blown out of proportion and now the director is not returning my phone call either. The reason for the call was so my son could speak with his grandma before going under anesthesia for a cancer treatment. She is very sick and just wanted to talk with my son through a three way call. hopefully they return my call so we can clarify the custody order.

Great family atmosphere. Staff is friendly and always helpful. My favorite thing here is the sauna. The Princess Anne and Granby locations don’t have a sauna so I try to go to this one so I can get the extra sweat when I get off of work late. Sometimes the cleaning crew tries to kick you out before they close at 9pm which would be my only complaint. Other than that, awesome place to workout.

It’s our first time on this location and we are disappointed because all the bathrooms/toilets are super dirty specially the outdoor bathrooms for the outdoor pool. Underwear s are left inside the toilet hanger, toilets are very nasty 🤢. The guy on the entrance was super nice and helpful. Staffs are very accommodating. I will give 5 stars if all the bathrooms are clean.

Refuses to offer a refund for a sport my child can not play due to circumstances outside of my control. I do not want a credit as there is nothing he can do that works in our schedule (all practices and games seem to fall on time he is court ordered to visit his father). The alternatuve would've been karate but thats in a location far from us and at a time hes with his father.. He was in tball and basketball and we did not have a schedule till the week before the first practice. I'm baffled as to how they are with cancelation policies when things come up that are out of your control and there aren't a lot of programs to even choose from. I want a refund not credit.

Lots of teenagers who likes to chat and pretend they’re doing their job in the outdoor pool. But some of them are disrespectful. It is so funny that when there’s a lot of people in the outdoor pool, they don’t pay attention to the kids/people in the outdoor pool. Which they should because that’s when accidents happen (when there’s a lot of people). But when there’s only couple of people in the pool, that’s when they show off and pretend they’re working and be like “hey I’m watching you!”.🤦‍♀️

Update from review below:
As change is evolving, constant activism for Christian and loving values grows. The manager of this Y have approached me and is perceptive of the review below. But I am a new concept of integration, so I keep my vigilance as my claim may be forgotten. Oh, well, but numbers do speak. So I'll let it simmer until diversity is a part of the the Greenbrier Y's foundation.

Previous review:
I've endured 10 years of membership for health reasons.  It is clean, but the staff may be from a bygone era.  They are hard and distant to new settlers. Where back then brown people may succumb to subordination.  Some new residents grew up with money, so the front and office staff can't place them well.  They come across unfriendly and condescending. This shows the staff's limited travel overseas for leisure. Or even lack of education beyond K12 US history .  Times have changed if you want to progress G Ymca (This addresses to white reception staff and all offices in charge of screening new hires minus part time men on Saturday morning).  Do not continue the status quo.  Kindness has beneficial effects on your health.  Do you stand for health in your platform?

Brought my 17yr old son here today 8/7/2020 @430pm, he was meeting up with friends to play basketball, signed the COVID paper, he comes out and says he can't go in unless someone 18 and over stays with him the whole time, unfortunately this y is 25 minutes from our house and I had the baby with me, his friends said that it was going to take awhile to get there so we went back home, only to find out another friend who is 17 and doesn't have a membership either got in with no problem and he didn't have to have an 18yr old with him...the rules need to be the same all the way across the board...

The teen room seems to never be open. I've asked multiple times and get different answers each time. Sometimes they will open it, others tell me I need to have someone over 18 with me but the rules say 17 and under can be in there. So I don't know what to believe or what do. They also say it closes at 6 but there hours say 6:30 which I think is a bad time because most teens are just getting off of school or sports

It's convenient location and friendly staff help offset the small size of the gym. They have reorganized the workout area, which has helped a little bit. Depending on what time of day you go, you may have to wait for a cardio machine or weights. And childcare may or may not be available. During the summer, because of camp, they basketball gym is closed pretty much all day. The growth of the Greenbrier area is surpassing the size of this Y.

The gym was awesome initially, and they recently did a renovation. I thought they would add more machines and add another smith machine. However, they actually removed a lot of the good equipment and replaced the smith machine with 3 squat racks. I loved this gym and thought they would be adding more equipment & fix the damaged ones, but unfortunately they made it worse. Hopefully they can bring back the smith machine and add a few other good machines.

I love this place. I can walk there and do 6 times a week as part of my daily routine for 2 years now. They have every piece of exercise equipment one could ever imagine. They even have a big indoor pool, one or two outdoor pools and basically a water park outside. All of the staff are top notch and very friendly. A wide mix of people doing their own thing...non judgmental. I love it and recommend it.

Swim lessons are a waste of time and money. Kids wasted more time sitting and playing on the sidelines than doing actual lessons with the instructors. We lost a day of swim lessons because one of the kids had a nose bleed so all swim lessons for that day were canceled. Instead of having a make up day during the current lesson, we were given a vouchers for money off future swim lessons. The kids were tested on swimming the length of the pool and then treading water. By the way, NONE of the lessons included treading water. So if the kids can't tread water for a certain amount of time... they will FAIL the swim test. So disappointed in the whole process. Don't waste your time and money.

My 10 y/o son was kicked out the pool today. When we signed up for membership we were told he could be in the pool in the roped off shallow end as long as there was supervision close by. He hasn't passed the swim test but is in swim lessons at this facility. I was sitting in a lounge chair poolside watching him. Today I was told I had to actually be in the pool with him. He's been in the pool all week as I watched him from a lounge chair. I felt I had no other choice but to cancel my membership. This was heartbreaking for him because all he wants to do after camp at this Y is swim.
