I think its odd they won't allow for a credit if the fog is so thick you cant see, but do allow if its raining. I think the golf course put themselves at a greater risk for legal action since playing when you cant see is more dangerous than in the rain. We ended up teeing off in the fog, glad no one got hurt!

It is a nice course. However, when you have so many groups of four scheduled together that it takes a group of two to play 18 in 5 1/2hrs there’s a problem. I was getting stiff waiting for the multiple groups ahead of us to play.

They stack people on top of each other too close, and dont enforce any sort of pace of play. At one point there were 4 groups at one hole in my round today. We quit after 5 holes, because we were on pace for a 6 hour round

Incredibly rude staff. We missed our tee time and understandably waited to the side until they could fit us in again. We had some time restraints and requested a refund instead, however we were instead granted rain checks. When I went into the pro shop to claim these rain checks the staff hadn’t noticed I walked in and talked for 3+ minutes while I stood directly at the counter about how generous they were for even giving us rain checks instead of just telling us to go home. Terrible staff, my staff and entire management team will no longer be coming to this course.

Heritage oaks is already subpar compared to other courses in the area and today I was lucky enough to have an interaction with the course marshal. My sister and I were at the greens and we went past the white signs off to the side in the rough (still 30 yards from the putting green) we were in the wrong but it was an honest mistake we thought as long you stayed 30 yards it was okay. He was so rude and degrading. He talked to us like we had never played golf in our lives which I'm assuming is because we are two young women. He was tapping the rules and told us to read it three times as we were sitting in the cart. I was honestly in shock at how hateful and disrespectful he was. On top of that why is he acting like the course doesn't look like this?

Been playing at this course for almost 15 years and ever since JMU or the government(?) bought it it’s gone completely downhill. As others have said the employees couldn’t care less about what they do, there’s no food, and when we mentioned playing a 5 hour round they said there’s nothing they can do since they don’t get any more funding for staff and that since it’s a Sunday I should expect to be waiting 10-15 minutes at every tee box to tee off. Unless you’re a college student getting extreme discounts don’t waste your money here anymore, go to lake view. Two stars only for course conditions that are noticeably deteriorating each time I’ve been.

The staff is very rude and doesn’t care when you leave something and call for help. The general manager wouldn’t even let me get a word in while going on and on about how he completely trusts his employees and would refuse to investigate what was stolen from my boyfriend while he was playing a round. Even though they trust their employees there is clearly lying and manipulation by not trying to assist their customers. Overall terrible experience.

I was one of the last two groups to drop off a cart and I left my medical use marijuana on the golf cart and realized about 3 minutes down the road when I showed up back up the carts were clean and my container that I keep it in was empty and in the trash can the employee Ben and the PGA pro claimed that the container was empty when they found it in the cart which me and them both know was a lie. I had 80-100$ of prescription marijuana that they swore wasn’t there and that they had no idea where it could have been. If they truly threw it away it would have been found cause they helped me dig through the only trash can that was being used and it wasn’t there. Before I even said what was in there Ben said everything that was in the container had gotten thrown away but they both later claimed it was empty when they found it. Very unfortunate that employees would lie to a customers face about not taking something as serious as prescription medicine. Also the general manager when I called to report this said he would not further investigate because they drug test and that he trusts his employees wouldn’t steal something like that. Even though there is a security camera right in the open over the area that the carts are cleaned it would take two minutes and he would have found out his employees stole prescription medicine which is a felony. Adding onto this the manager said if anything that isn’t trash is found in the carts the customer would be called in regards to the item or items they left on the cart I never received a call nor did the other 3 people I was playing with. So even if you leave something very important or not your stuff will either be thrown away or taken and the employees will claim it for them selfs. Overall a very poorly run place that doesn’t try and help their customers out and when they did help me it was only to cover up the lie that they didn’t see or take my prescription.

My wife and I played this course on 7/7/23. The course was in good condition and both friendly and challenging. I would have given 5 stars, except for one very important complaint. We were very disappointed that there was no drinking water available on the course and no one selling drinks. It was a hot and humid day and we brought one cold drink with us. By the end of the round, we were severely dehydrated. I think people should at least be told on a hot day that they need to take drinks with them. So, if you plan to play this course in hot weather, be warned.

While we were teeing off a worker came by in a golf cart and refused to stop. He drove down the middle of the fairway while it was supposedly 90 degrees cart rules. One of our balls landed near him and he threw his hands up and proceeded to drive at us cussing us. Turns out it was the general manager as he threatened to remove us from the course for nearly hitting him. We informed him if he had followed proper golf etiquette and not drove right in front of the tee box while we were teeing off it wouldn’t have happened. Even though we were extremely courteous he continued to verbally attack us. To top it all off the course was in terrible shape, $15 greens at a $55 course. Pass, highly recommend spending your money elsewhere.

Completely disrespectful staff. Refused my money even though the group I was with already paid for carts and made me walk to hole 15 while I had a disability because the employee wanted to stare out a window and told me she wasn’t going to help me because I wasn’t a customer. Will not ever come back and will sincerely tell others to run from bad service. Last time I checked, offering to pay for something made you a customer. There were over 40 carts and she told me she had none to give me.

Saw the wonderful Virginia weather and drove out from New York to golf. We spent 2/3 day here and had great outings! The staff over the phone and in person were friendly folks. The course is in good shape, challenging layout, more challenging greens. This is a par 70 course you will enjoy. I plan on going back sometime!

Great place to play. We've been there four times now and the two most consistent things are that it's always in great shape and the personnel in the clubhouse is always unfriendly. I give the course 5 stars but the staff 2. I don't know what it is but it doesn't seem to matter who is working they're always rude and unfriendly. Don't let that keep you from playing the course, for a public course and under $50 it's very hard to beat.

The most unpleasant round of golf I’ve ever played! From the moment we walked in the door! Staff was rude; possessed zero customer service skills and personality. Last Christmas I received a gift card for 5 free rounds of golf from a family member, but due to COVID and the course being CLOSED, I was unable to use them. I thought for sure the gift cards would be honored… NOPE! They expired December 31, 2020. ARE YOU KIDDING ME!? The course wasn’t even open, making it ineligible for me to use them! Then I kindly asked if they sold water and their reply was “no and there is also no alcohol permitted.” Definition of profiling, and to me it’s absolutely embarrassing if that is what Harrisonburg’s golf course has to offer!

Course was in fairly good shape other than the fairways and greens recently being aerated. The golf carts are in good shape and really liked the onboard club and ball cleaner. Other than that the people working the pro shop are very rude and not very welcoming. Felt like I was not wanted there and they could care less if we ever came back. Ruined the whole experience after we drove 2 5 hours just to play this course. Would not recommend playing here. Your money would be more appreciated at any of the other fine courses in the area. The nicest person at the course was the gentleman receiving the carts at the end of the round. Will not play here again.

I’ve been playing here for years and every year this course continues to get worse. Horrendous pace of play. Course sends groups out every five minutes regardless of group size and with no control. Unless you enjoy play 6-7 hour rounds I would not recommend this course. Very disappointed with the staffs professionalism and ability to run a half decent course. I would much rather play one of the other quality courses in the area.

Whether your a local golfer or just someone in the area looking to get in a round do yourself a favor and play this course! The fairways and greens were in great condition. The front nine is pretty wide open, and the fairways start to narrow with trees on the back nine. This course is not too long or difficult but can be challenging on the back nine with errant tee shots. Even knowing I wasnt local and may not be back again, David (course pro) and Phil (marshall) treated me like i was a frequent golfer at their course. Very professional and friendly staff all around. The ONE thing negative about this course is it's not near MY house!

Heritage Oaks is a great place to play golf, I have been to a ton of high end golf courses in NOVA and this one keeps level with them.

Things to be aware of
- Price is very good for a round, and the beer isn't pricey at all
- Typically there open tee times, you can typically get a great time even on weekends.
- Greens are 6/10...but for the price you can't go wrong

Beautiful, family-friendly course. Superb course conditions. David Johns, the pro and manager is fabulous. He loves the game and is devoted to helping younger golfers develop a love for the game as well. We had the pleasure of taking family lessons from him and he gives fabulous advice. Always play when I'm visiting the in-laws. A shorter course but the dog legs and the valley wind can cause it to play longer than you'd expect based on the scorecard from the tips (9 and 15 in particular). Narrow lanes on a few tee boxes will also play mind games for some.

Generally in very good shape. Some of the collars can be a little rough but they have been working hard to get them back up to the standard of the rest of the course.

Super friendly staff. They remember me despite the fact that I only make it down there from the DC Metro area once every 2-3 months.

I visited this golf course for the first time last year when visiting my fiance at JMU. I LOVED IT and played the best game I ever had up to that point. I now visit this course almost everytime I go to harrisonburg, or atleast when my woman lets me haha, and I would recommend it to anyone. You cant beat the price to play. I paid $42 bucks last ZTime I went last week to play 18 on a beautiful EXTREMELY well kept course. Im from Virginia Beach and here, you can't find a course like that under $50+ for 18. If your in the Harrisonburg area PLAY THIS COURSE YOU WONT REGRET IT!

I have played Heritage Oaks for years and as the commenter below says it is a terrific course. In my experience over the past 10 years the staff has been friendly, helpful and accommodating not only to me but to others who I have seen them interact with in the clubhouse. The only time I have seen that they can become stern is if someone is not observing the course rules.
