I’ve been utilizing the LAF on Beulah Street in Alexandria for over a year now. I like the managerial team here. But mostly I like my trainer, OwenX. He’s really good at it. He’s got the knowledge & ability to work with my limitations but gradually pushes me towards getting stronger which gives me increased strength & endurance. I think he’s a natural at this. He’s consistent, goal driven towards your goals & really good. Having worked out with trainers for over 14 yrs lets me have some ability to judge. I highly recommend Owen for your trainer consideration. The center is clean and convenient. I do wish the jacuzzi & pool were available.

The GM Eros is very kind, professional and fair. He gave me a tour of the gym before allowing me to try everything out. I’ve been a member of this gym since it first opened, and I’m beyond disappointed. Some of the equipment has been broken for years and still hasn’t been fixed. This is, hands down, the worst-maintained gym I’ve ever joined.

If you’re considering signing up, don’t waste your money here. Pure Fitness is just 5 minutes away and is a much better option. It’s clean, beautifully maintained, and they actually invest in their facility—fixing broken machines promptly and adding new equipment regularly. Unlike this poorly managed, run-down gym, Pure Fitness clearly cares about their members.

This location sucks compared to other locations in the area. There are always broken machines and there are never more than 1 or 2 bikes that work properly. Those of us who are regulars know which bikes work without slipping and knocking on just about every pedal turn. When issues like this are escalated to staff and management, they just pay lip service to the issue and shrug it off. I have been a member of Bally's/LA Fitness for over 20 years and the lack of management attention to these types of issues at this location is very concerning.

This place went down hill fast. With the amount of money that it should be pulling in there is no way that any machine should be broken for longer than a few days. Multiple weight machines had broken cables. The heart rate sensors on elliptical machines do not work. And the pool and hot tub has not been open for months. Starting to think they are too cheap to pay for a lifeguard.

My sister-in-law and I used to come here and sadly she passed away so I cancelled my membership. Almost 3 years have passed now and I decided to come back to this gym. Get back into the life I once loved.

I did the 3-day pass registration and was denied at the front desk — they said I needed to pay $20 for 1-day entry pass.. so confusing and very misleading on whats on the website and staff directions. So unfortunate:(

Pool is not open this entire season.
AC not working in middle of June for 1+ weeks now.
Lots of machine unavailable/broken.
Not resistance bands, jump rope, medicine balls available in the floor (apparently they gets stolen!!!)
Weights are locked on the upstairs studio room. People that carry weights from downstairs often just leave them around.
Patrons are not the most considerate.
All in all, the only reason I’d go there if it’s your option.

This gym was charging us money and giving us hope pool will reopen for months and after three months or so they announced they won't reopen and refuse to refund our fees that we were charged with out getting service. This gym is the cleanest gym that I have ever seen in my life. The staff are friendly, and they make sure you take the most out of your membership. I also recommend to book a complimentary session with a professional trainer, Tiffany Spaeth. She is so kind and professional, and she measures the ratio of your BMI with your body fat. Then determines how much time and work you need in order to reach your favorite shape. she explains everything with details to you, then she gives you 30 minutes of training that you can feel the effects on your muscles instantly. This location is highly recommended.

I have been a member of this facility since it first opened. It has started to take a significant downturn in quality and availability of equipment. The pool has been closed for more than 7 weeks, with no idea of when it will reopen. As of today at least cardio machines are out of order. Other than the pool & basketball court, I see no difference btw them and Planet Fitness.

I recently switched to this LA fitness from Planet Fitness. Other than the classes, there's almost no difference in what's offered. There are more free weights. At LA everything is just spread out more.

There are way more employees at LA Fitness, but most of the equipment is broken in some way, and the bathrooms almost never have soap or paper towels. I was with Planet Fitness for 5 years and never had to ask someone to refill the soap. I was at LA for 1 months and had to ask multiple times.

LA Fitness seems like a place to congregate. In the afternoon it is packed and everyone is talking. Planet Fitness takes car of their equipment and I miss not worrying about if I'll have soap, paper towels, or if a machine will ever get fixed. I just want to work out.

Need to clean the showers. There is trash in the shower areas( paper towels, used shaving blades, bottles). Fix the sauna flooring and secure the wood planks around the unit heater.

Update 03/03/2025: There has been some improvement in the gym. The cleaning process has improved, new floor mats put down, and the wood planks around the heater were repaired.

Had to amend this review. With only 4 suitable elliptical machines in working order it’s hard to keep my routine. Many other cardio machines also out of order for weeks on end. I find the facility to be clean. There is soap in the shower and plenty of hot water. The people at the front desk are polite.

Joined for the pool - very disappointed

I've been a fan of LA Fitness for a while and first joined in CA. Mainly joined for the pool to swim laps. Recently joined the Beulah location and have more frustration than pool time.

Hot tub has been broken since I joined and when the pool is down they don't tell you at checkin, or through the app.. you have to check in, get changed, and only then do you discover that the pool is down, AGAIN! Ive used other locations in the area and have been happy with them. Seems this location has a reliability issue. Hoping in the future they atleast do a better job of informing members when a popular feature is going to be unavailable.

I joined this gym last year, in mid-December 2023 on a month to month membership. The equipment is adequate and I work out there nearly everyday. There is a wide variety of different machines that I like. I also signed a 6-month agreement for two 25-minute training sessions a week at a cost of $400/month. The contract I signed had 4-5 pages of fine print and routing boilerplate language. I felt that 6 months of working with a trainer would be enough time for me to learn the nuances of weight training. When I signed the contract, I expressed concern that I did NOT want to continue with the training after my last (6th month). LA Fitness employee assured me that they wouldn’t continue billing me. I was happy with the two trainers Brandon and Marvin I worked with. However, a month before my contract was supposed to end, I reminded one of the managers, Josh, that my training contract was coming to an end and to not bill my card for a 7th month. I was assured that that wouldn’t happen. As I suspected, LA Fitness still billed me despite my reminding them NOT TO BILL FOR A SEVENTH MONTH! I called LA Fitness to complain and nobody seemed very concerned and nobody in the gym took action to reverse the $400 charge! I called LA Fitness corporate and was brushed off saying to read the contract and I would need to file my notice a mo th in advance AND in writing. I explained that nobody in the gym said that was necessary. I referred them to Josh who I notified in May to not bill me a seventh month. He response? SHE HUNG UP THE PHONE! So, I called my credit card company and challenged the charge. The gym got the $400 charge reinstated because they said I didn’t give written notice. My notification to Josh didn’t count! I don’t recommend doing business with companies that behave this way. And will cancel my and my wife’s memberships. There are lots of good gyms out there that we will explore. Avoid this gym.

*UPDATE: In Sept-2024, a manager in LA Fitness Corp HQs finally resolved the billing issues and I decided to keep my membership.

This is not a gym for serious people. Tonight I witnessed a grown man standing with two 45 lb plates stacked on his head.

But you get what you pay for. I only use this gym because it is inexpensive and convenient. If you enjoy a gym where people sit at a station/bench scrolling their phone during the busiest hours, don’t wipe off their sweat or remember deodorant, or where grown adults consistently leave plates and dumbbells laying around, then this is the gym for you. You’ll notice there are no fans, so the hot stagnant smell of sweat and brick weed just sits. If you walk into the bathroom you’ll notice the sinks are clogged , paper towels all over the wet floor, and one or two toilets with urine and curly hairs everywhere, all of this while at least five employee stand around the front desk scrolling their phones. Two stars for the cheap membership and for being the only gym in the neighborhood other than Planet Fitness that isn’t guarded by an HOA.

I wish i can give a 0 star for this location, i came in with my friend and i sent him a 7 day free pass. They told me he had to make an appointment and we did not know and the “General manager” showed me a sign that said that but i never read taht sign because i come in and workout and leave but my friend wanted to join me today but they didnt let him. It doesnt even mention anywhere on the website nor my app that we have to make an appointment, and i went to another location they didnt do the appointments for the guest passes. I picked that plan when i signed up for the gym so him telling me this??? Disappointing Experience at LA Fitness, Alexandria

I recently visited the LA Fitness in Alexandria using a 7-day VIP guest pass, and my experience was far from what I expected. After driving all the way from Tysons Corner, I arrived at the gym only to be told that I needed to make an appointment. This was surprising because there was no mention of this requirement on their website, and there were no clear directions provided anywhere.

To make matters worse, the staff was unhelpful and seemed uninterested in providing any guidance or explanation. Despite being a guest and potential new member, they were not willing to talk or assist in resolving the confusion about the appointment process.

It’s frustrating when a gym offers a guest pass to encourage new members but then fails to provide basic customer service. I hope the management looks into improving the guest experience and communication, both online and in person.

I have been a member of LAFitness for 5 years and have been coming to the Alexandria location for two months. I like to get in early at 5 AM and leave to go to work on time. This place always opens up on time. There are three employees arrive here at 5 AM everyday. I can't say the same for the Woodbridge location who has repeatedly left me and other customers waiting for them to open. Many times I had to leave because no one showed up. The folks here in Alexandria are timely, very nice and helpful. The gym is great, everything you need to workout. I wish it was closer to my home.

A lot of the equipment needs some time, love, & care. Very limited rack space, and no space for Olympic lifts. The bikes are old. They still have outlets for an iPod touch. As a gym it has everything you need. It's priced very well, the zoomba classes are a hit. No hot water in the showers and no cold water in the fountains. It's all just lukewarm.

Overall it is a good facility with good equipment.

However, La Fitness does not fix its equipment. There are 5 stair masters and 4 of them have been broken since I joined as a member with no plans to replace or fix them.

They also need to update the floor with a functional fitness section.

But still a good gym.

Update January 2024: The rating has been downgraded to a 2.5 due to no hot water in the locker rooms and specifically the showers. 2.5 stars. Showers are very important for guys that need to work out then go to work or whatever.

3.5 stars. One of the nicer of the L.A. Fitness NOVA locations. This location has better parking, and is generally cleaner. Plenty of equipment, plenty of cardio equipment on the second floor. The cardio floor does lack air circulation. In the past I have noticed that groups of younger men are let in at one time without showing a pass. One night the police were called when lockers were broken into and car keys 🔑 (and cars) stolen. The Beulah location is part of my multi Nova location membership and well worth it.

Update*** I am highly disappointed by this location. Today is the third day I’ve come to find my daughter sitting in feces without getting a phone call. All under the care of the same employee. The second time the same employee allowed my daughter to sit in poo so long, she started to itch and spread her feces across the entire kids club with 7+ other children in it. The employee didn’t notice until it was a disastrous amount.
The location is convenient but I HATE the service given to my innocent child. I’m calling corporate at this point. I want out of my contract.

When I arrived I immediately smelled poop when my daughter ran up to me. I checked & could tell it was not “fresh poop”. She was oblivious to my daughter needing changed & and was on her computer when I arrived & left. There were only two children under her care. Why wasn’t she performing wellness checks on my 2 year old? Unacceptable!!

I drive 12 miles to swim there. And the pool is always down. Now the heater is broke and the water is 72 degrees. I try to call to see if it is fixed before I drive there, and nobody answers the phone.

Don’t leave your belongings in the changing room. People steal simple things even sweatshirts. No wipes anywhere to find, hand sanitizers are always empty and equipment is dated and many things are broken.

Absolutely terrible customer service. I called end of October to cancel my membership and no problem. They said they cancelled it. Then I notice I was still charged and then also charged an annual fee. When I called back, they tried to refuse to cancel my membership unless I came in and then they refused to give me a refund because they couldn't prove I cancelled the first go round! Find another gym! They don't care about their customers. Just taking your money!!!

I don’t usually write a review, but today I decided to take my time and write a review for the disrespect I received from one of The Trainer here named Josh , After working out with the machines, I decided to go in the training area and work out , When this rude trainer Josh pointed at me like a dog and telling me to leave the area , without telling me this in nicer way , I respect the rules and policy of the gym But he could’ve say it in a nicer way , instead of pointing at me and telling me to leave in a rude way , I never had this issue with any other trainers. They’re all nice ! And I’m not The only person complaining ,there is other people complaining about him too

During the Pandemic and after, this gym supplied spray bottles with a sanitizer and paper towels to wipe the equipment with the sanitizer. Then, very recently the bottles disappeared but one could take a paper towel and squirt a sanitizer from a small machine - seemingly for use on hands.

Today, 8/22/23, the paper towel dispensers have been taken away and their is some sort of wet towels coming out of a dispenser, looking like a baby wipe dispenser. There is no information about these large wipes. The liquid doesn't disappear when used so it appears there is no alcohol. There is no posted information about what the wetness is and no paper towels to wipe the wet wipes off the equipment. So, clean a seat and then sit on a wet surface.

Moreover, the pool is closing in September 2023. LA Fitness looks like a good business but the Headquarters folks apparently are at the beach. Are they planning on bankruptcy? One has to wonder.

It is now 1/2/23. The pool is open although closed now for repair. When the pool is available there will not be a lifeguard.

There are no paper towels to assist cleaning machines and the wipes provided are wet with something that evaporates really fast, after entering your skin if you hold them in your hand.

Tonight I arrived at 7:40 PM to ride the bike. The doors were locked and people were present inside. A man was trying to enter right before I walked up and he found the doors locked. He left. I shook the doors and no one responded so I knocked on the window. Finally, a patron got up and asked the staff person if he could let me in. The staff person came to the door and explained that they lock the door 20 minutes before closing. This is not in the contract and just goes along with the laziness of this place. This fellow did tell me I could close my membership. He finally let me in and I rode the bike for 10 minutes and left before the facility closed. I am so sad to see Americans act this way at work - showing that they do not intend to work but just to sit and look at a cellphone. It also appears that there is no training for people who do not know how to work.

Honestly. Staff is nice and all. But machines are ALWAYS broken forever. We’re down a bench, and we have been for a couple of months now. Other machines are broken for just as long if not longer. We’ve got like half of the seated bikes are broken, and have been for a while. Also I will add that there is no deadlift area. It is annoying to have no place to do leg exercises. I hope this gym can expand some because it’s way too small for the crowd it gets. And I also hope they get better about machine repairs.

Decent LA fitness, on the smaller side but no issues finding available equipment on a Sunday. Everything was in working order and clean in the main area. It does have what looks like a 3 lane pool. Some wear and tear showing on some pull down machine rope attachments.

Great gym but they are horrible with keeping up with their maintenance. If a machine breaks, that means it will be out for 6+months. Their front door was once broken for over 13-months. Cleaning staff are great and so are the front desk staff.

It's a solid gym. There are ample amounts of equipment and racks. You have 3 benches, a power rack, two kinda hybrid power racks (so essentially 3 places one could do squats or deadlift), and maybe 6 or 7 free weight benches. There are a few sets of free weights so you usually don't have to wait to use a the barbell size you want.

There are plenty of other machines, with 2 or 3 of each of the more popular machines. The place is kept clean and everyone is friendly.

There is a smaller sized basketball court and pool, and all the cardio equipment is upstairs. There's probably 15 of each cardio machine so plenty there too.

Decent gym my only issue is when machines and other amenities are down, there is no rush for repair. This is an issue because it’s a small gym with limited number of machines. 3 out of 5 stair masters have been out of service for 1-2 months. The men’s sauna has been out of service for 2 (going on 3) months. Management does not rush to resolve issues.

Do not fall for their personal trainer gig - there's 1 trainer here who seems to be truly motivated and eager to work with his clients, but in the year I've been going for personal training I've had to get used to nearly a dozen different personal trainers due to a lack of availability and the managements inability to keep their staff.

Equipment is broken, unsanitary and scheduled for maintenance for months on end. The gym has become a teenage hangout spot in the evenings with 0 sense of urgency as they will hog machines, making it impossible to commit to a full workout.

The pool closing has been the final straw, canceled membership with nearly 50 personal training sessions now wasted after being unable to get a single trainer to establish a training schedule. That works for me (available all day).

Only reason for 2 stars is because Marquees (PT) was a great trainer while I had him.

Both my trainer, Brandon and the trainers’ supervisor, Josh deserve the highest praise at the Alexandria Beulah St LA Fitness!

When I train for an hour with Brandon I burn so many more calories, sweat & drink so much more water than I do when working out on my own for 2 & 1/2 hrs. I have gained so much more strength & muscle definition since I began training with him. He’s also still wiping down & replacing all weights used during all training sessions as soon as his clients are done with them as a courtesy to others.
Supervisor, Josh always makes himself available to answer either any health/fitness questions or about the gym in a knowledgeable & courteous manner. I’ve also observed him (mornings & evenings) cleaning, tidying up & replacing exercise items left behind by patrons.

The kids workimg here do not care about the job. its annoying. Ive been here for awhile, but since the summer started they have been lazy with the cleanliness and hygienic standards are horrible. Very lazy im refilling bottles to the point they are little to none available. They do not know anything when asking a question.. they’ll look at me with a blank face. The process is like dealing with sleazy car salesmen. I emailed first to ask a simple question about a membership. and of course the robo email says we can't find any membership online, please call.
So I make the dreaded call. What's my name and number (just in case we get disconnected) then they transfer you to some salesperson who want you to come in to see all the options breakdowns. All I wanted to know if I can pay in advance and not monthly payments. I don't need a breakdown and explanation. I just want to pay for six months to a year upfront and be done. But they have to go through some pitch straight out of a car salesman book. No thank you. Know your audience, I'm an older veteran who just wants to get in better shape.

Lack of any other place to workout - You may be forced to accept this place. Cannot provide photos as against the rules to take photos inside. Trash cans are often allowed to overflow. Even though they have ample space, they lack sufficient water fountains. They only have two in the entire facility—one by the basketball court and one at the pool. Staff lacks any sense of customer service once you join.

A lot of the vinyl is already all cracked, some serious tapestry work needs to be done on the location, and some of the equipment stays Out of Service for a long time. Most of the staff still very nice, with a couple of exceptions.
Update 2023. For the love of God, fix the equipment! I lost track of how many machines are broken and stay broken for months.

The gym is good but I go because of the kid club they have. Those who care for the children are super nice. I drop my kid knowing that the girls who work there are going to take care of him. Great job LA fitness !!!
