Runners -- THIS is your place!

I joined MAD this summer for a month trial membership and was impressed with the support, technical and individualized coaching, variety of movements, and early results. I was starting marathon training and was initially hesitant about investing in a strength gym with scheduled classes. How could these types of workouts fit into a distance running training plan? MADabolic Arlington showed me.

I cannot speak more highly of Julianne and the coaches at MADabolic Arlington. Julianne provided a clear, 20-week training plan that included MAD workouts, speed/hill workouts, long runs, and rest days. Their team helped me build full-body strength, prevent injuries, build mental discipline and resiliency (5:00 static effort, anyone?!), increase aerobic fitness, improve flexibility and range of motion, relieve stress, find value in rest/active recovery days, improve body composition (including bone density), and feel strong.

I saw the results. The past few months helped me to run more than 40 minutes faster than last year's marathon time, with my fastest splits of the race in my last 5K. Without injuries. MAD class 3 days per week and running 2-3 days per week.

I was a collegiate heptathlete 20 years ago and I am continually amazed what my body and mind are now capable of. I'm back! -- and post-race, I'm making more gains.

Specific aspects I really enjoy:
- the people and instructors are genuine, nice, and chill. It’s not a cult. There’s no pressure to go too hard or act a certain way.
- the instructors have a great balance of expertise, professionalism, kindness, and fun.
- the workouts are HARD. If you go 4x a week like they recommend, you will absolutely notice a difference in your body appearance and fitness level.

I’ve been a member since November and I have to say this gym isn’t like any other around here. The emphasis on form and function really do help out. You’re not just worrying about expending calories here more so you’re learning technique to get stronger and better. It’s awesome 🤩🤩🤩 I was looking for a place to workout more like crossfit style. Madabolic is beginner friendly exactly I was looking for. I wanted to boost my strength and endurance. MAD is the rare group class that feels customized to each person and yields results! The colored plate system helps you scale weighted movements to the appropriate weight, and knowledgeable trainers who focus on technique (unlike other gyms that prioritize mindless cheerleading) help you safely learn new movements and progress heavier. I’ve seen huge gains in both strength and cardio output since joining 1.5 years ago, and would recommend to folks of all fitness levels!

My experience was great! The workout felt quick, the coach was attentive and gave corrections when needed, the staff that checked me in was helpful and explained everything clearly. This is a great for exercise even if you are new to workout classes and weights. If you are going before work and need to shower and get ready, consider doing that at home. It’s a little too difficult to do this at MADabolic because there is no counter space, if one bathroom is taken you may have to wait because they can’t have both bathrooms used at one time

I love MAD. As a previous member of other fitness studios in the area it's difficult to find any studio that cared about me like MAD does. There's no emphasis on weight loss or calories burned, but rather strength and physical improvement. All of the trainers are highly qualified and care about their clients. Feedback is always encouraged and usually acted upon. The company has great ethics and the owner greatly supports his staff. It shows by how happy and passionate they all are about the program.

If I could give MADabolic even more stars, I absolutely would. Today was my 320th class at MAD so I have done my fair share of workouts while at MAD, so believe me when I say it is hands down the best gym in the DMV area. MAD features a strength-based interval training program which focuses on building strength, muscular endurance, and anaerobic capacity. This differs from many of the other group fitness studios in the DMV area who may focus on high-interval intensity training or other training methods. MAD's programming is also intentionally crafted by the founders of the company and is strategically built unlike other gyms which may use algorithms or random workout generation methods. On top of that, MAD is truly a family / group of friends which makes every class so fun. I have been going to the same class during the weekdays for almost 2-years and have a group of friends that pushes me, holds me accountable, and that jokes around during each class. Overall, I believe MAD is one of the best investments you can make in health.

I’ve been going to Madabolic for 6 mo now. I highly recommend it! I was scared to try after having two back to back kids because it looked intimidating to jump into. I really like the format. Every class is different. While each class has five stages, you do different exercises each time. I think it took me two months (going 4-5 times / week) before I saw a repeat. So, it gives you a full-body workout. Oh, and the instructors are awesome too. Going to MADabolic is the single best decision I have ever made for my health and wellness. The trainers are considerably more knowledgeable than any other gym I have visited, and they also have many qualified nutritionists on staff that encourage eating for performance and for fueling yourself. I no longer live in the area and one of the things that I miss most are the classes at Madabolic. Knowledgeable trainers, clear explanation of membership options/cancellation policy, and upfront about gym rules that members are expected to adhere to. I particularly like that they do not allow people to disrupt the class by coming in late. I enjoyed the small class size, which gives you more time with the trainers than other gyms w/ larger classes. Motivating environment and challenging work outs.

Giving this gym a 5 star rating is the easiest decision I think I have ever made (outside of asking my wife to marry me). For the guy who gave this a one star because he doesn't know how to read, I have my kids ABC books ready for pick up. Outside of getting in the best shape of my life, fitting in to a birthday suit, and creating a new generation of dad bods, the culture is amazing and lifelong friends are built. My only suggestion would be to never challenge the owner on any cardio exercise......ever....or prepare to puke.

I had a positive experience with MADabolic turned into a negative one. The trainers are active and engaging and the workouts well designed.

Unfortunately at the time of when I purchased my month to month membership I specifically asked if I could cancel at any time with no fee. This was greeted with a yes. I started my membership on the 14th of a month. On Jan 23rd I tried to cancel and they told me I needed a 30 day notice to cancel the month to month membership. The reason I went for the more expensive month to month option was because I wanted the flexibility to cancel at any time. I told them that the staff assured me that I could cancel with no fee. They still charged me on the 14th of February.

I hope the staff will rectify this situation so I can take this review down...

Love the coaches and the workouts. Even on the hardest day I leave there with a smile on my face. It seemed very intimidating to me at first, so I wasn’t sure about giving it a try, but every person works out at their own level and encourage each other to keep going. Update: after 6 months of being at this gym, all I can is I wish I found it sooner! Being able to create and work towards goals with a trainer has been the push I didn’t know I needed! Getting that 1 on 1 support in a group atmosphere has been worth every penny!

I can’t say enough amazing things about this gym! I needed a place last fall to get back in shape after having two babies. I gave their 5 days for $5 deal a try and was hooked after 2 classes! What I didn’t expect when joining was to find a place with trainers that truly cared about your goals and helped you work towards them each step of the way. Another thing that is amazing about this gym is it truly meets you where you are and any person can jump into any class and have it fits their needs! I am so glad I found this space and trainers!

I used to never last more than a few classes at any gym. MAD has changed that! I have just hit my 100 class milestone and can’t wait to get to 200. The workouts change everyday, allowing for different muscle groups to rest and workout on any given day. Best gym ever! I’ve been going four days a week since September and have been able to move from the white plate (their lightest weights) to the teal plate which is next level of weights. Update: I have been going to MADabolic for almost a year now so you could tell I love it! It’s challenging, it pushes me, and there is always so much room for growth in this program! The program, facility and equipment are all top notch. The hidden asset is the staff. Great personalities, teachers and motivators, who also jump into the classes with us (i.e., become one of us). That also brings my fellow members together. I've done a lot of different HIIT programs, and I think MAD has the best balance between strength, cardio & core. I like the feel of struggling with the heavy kettles, dumbells, and medicine balls, through compound,. full-body movements, that surprisingly doesn't feel like traditionally weight lifting, yet it produces visible results. It focuses more on my building core, balance, lactic threshold, and functional body strength. Ironically, these classes are both exhausting (during) but emerging afterwards. Runner's highly, with stress-free, clear thinking, without needing caffeine for the rest of the day.

MAD is tough AND fun, and I really feel like I get a full-body workout that will actually tone my body. A year after into COVID without setting foot inside a gym or an office, I knew it was time to take my fitness goals to the next level. My daily walks were not cutting it anymore. While doing my research and talking to my friends, I liked MAD's approach to cleanliness and mask wearing rules since I was hesitant to be around large groups of individuals in an enclosed environment. After reading their procedures, it made me feel comfortable enough to try a few classes and get back to the gym.
After their 10 day trial, I was starting to feel great and seeing initial results, signing up was a no-brainer!

I'm new to the area so I've been shopping around for gym's closest to me and this place came up. I was hesitant to go at first, but I'm glad I did. So far, this place has given me the best workout I've experienced in 7+ years. I took advantage of their introductory offer "10 for $10" and have not been disappointed. I'm fairly routine with my workout schedule, using traditional name brand gyms for years, but this has given me a whole new style and approach to fitness. The coaches are great, very welcoming, super knowledgeable, and work with you on more advanced maneuvers. I personally have never been a fan of group workouts, but they definitely set a different tone that resonates more with how I like to workout. If your considering gyms in this area I would certainly take advantage of their introductory offer and see if it works for you. I am strongly considering not getting a membership anywhere else, that's how much I like it.
