The prenatal classes here are excellent and helped get me through pregnancy without pain and prepare for childbirth. I've taken classes with Jessie, Meghan, and Caroline and all were great

LOVE Mind the Mat! I started with their prenatal yoga and have move onto the mommy and me classes as well as some regular yoga classes (plus some of their special offerings like vision boarding and medication). The staff is friendly and accommodating, the studio is clean and conveniently located in Del Rey.

I randomly walked into this studio after having a poor experience with a different local gym. Going to Mind The Mat has restored my motivation to exercise frequently, and I couldn’t be happier.
My favorite classes are Pilates Bootcamp, and Hot Yoga flow. I’ve also heard great things about their barre classes, specialty, and prenatal workshops.
Megan, the owner is one of The Pilates Bootcamp instructors. A doctor of Physical Therapy, Pilates expert and enthusiast with at least 20 years of practice and experience.
The entire staff is friendly, but given my schedule I mostly attend Tayo’s and Stephanie’s class. They are both excellent.
The classes are upbeat and challenging, but enjoyable. Conveniently they have two additional studios in Arlington.
Selfishly I hope they open studios in McLean, Reston and Fairfax. Given my work schedule it would make it easy for me to hop into one of those locations for a class after work.
I highly recommend Mind The Mat! Go check it out.

Been going to classes for the last week and love it! The instructors are all so nice and there’s a wide array of classes at a plethora of time options to meet almost all schedules. My personal favorites are any of the hot/hawt classes - the heat just melts your muscles and makes everything move so nicely. Also - not culty at all!

Hands down the best pre-natal and post-natal classes in the area. As a yoga teacher myself, I can appreciate how experienced the teachers at Mind the Mat are, and so I love that they know how to challenge and prepare the pregnant body for labor in a safe way, and then after delivery, they also know how to safely challenge and help the body recover. Also, it is so fun to be able to move with other mamas and babies in the strange world that is the fourth trimester. Caroline, Sarah and Megan are amazing teachers and I’m so grateful to have had mommy and me classes for all three of my births!

The class itself was a good workout; however, in other barre and Pilates studios, typically I am asked if I’m okay with hands on corrections prior to the class. I did not appreciate my head, hips and legs being positioned without my consent. When I voiced my discomfort with the instructor, she apologized, but undermined it a bit by saying “Well have you been to a Mind the Mat Class before?” Given that there are other studios closer to me, I personally would not return to Mind the Mat. However, I wouldn’t discourage others from going. Rather, I would encourage Mind the Mat instructors to obtain consent for hands on corrections at the beginning of class.

Started back at MTM to help overcome some heavy life things. My body was in pain, stiff, stressed, tired, weak. I was also medically diagnosed with “dead butt syndrome” 🤦♀️ After one month of consistent pilates and yoga, I am already starting to feel more like myself again. Yes, the classes are challenging. But more importantly, they are relentlessly focused on building functional bodies. Happy to report my butt is back!

I have just started mom and baby yoga classes here and have had such a good experience! The classes are legitimately difficult, but the instructors and other moms keep it fun. So far, it been such a gentle and lovely community to be part of during the postpartum season. Wish I had discovered it sooner!

1230pm class at Mind the Mat Del Ray on Fridays is SO GOOD. Shruti is the teacher. Super creative flow. Not too intense. Helps you get out of your head. Not only is the flow creative; the build up (opening and strengthening) is very obviously intentional leading up to the peak pose.

I love it here! I've tried a couple of different studios, but something was always off about them. Either the schedule wasn't consistent, or I didn't feel welcome, or the people weren't the kindest, but once I tried my first class at Mind the Mat in Del Ray I knew I loved it. I've been going since December and I look forward to it every single week. My instructor is so sweet, the people are great, and I couldn't ask for anything better. Thank you guys for being so amazing!

Lots of fun in the HAWT Pilates and Pilates Barre Express classes. Clean space, great energy from the instructors, fulfilling workout. You need to street park so get there a bit early to guarantee finding a spot!

Went to the Alexandria location for Hot Yoga Christmas morning. This was my first ever yoga class. 🧘♀️
I thoroughly enjoyed the challenge and environment Mind the Mat brought. While it was hard, I felt very renewed after and will be back for more as I bought the Lite membership.

This is a much needed staple in my weekly routine. When I first moved to Alexandria, my wife and I went to another yoga studio. We loved the instructor, but we were not happy with the studio. Enter Mind the Mat. The same instructor also teaches here and the studio is great. The hot studio is set up in an efficient and thoughtful manner with a separate changing room. The class package expiration policy is reasonable and one of the best in the area. Furthermore, the class offerings surpasses most studios in the area. My wife switched from the hot power flow yoga to prenatal without missing a week of yoga. I prefer the hot power flow yoga to complement my function fitness and running regime and it has improved my finesses overall. This class is in high demand because of the great instructor (again, we followed her from the previous studio). There were times when some students where using the cancellation policy to their advantage by scheduling and not attending or coming late to this high demand class thereby preventing others from attending. The owners addressed this situation by updating the cancellation policy and it seems to have resolved the issues.

As a longtime family friend I chose to take Megan Lipera's Barre Pilates class on Saturday and did not leave disappointed. I'd been doing Barre3 for the last four years but most of the time I did it from an on-line app at home for 30 minutes. Saturday's 1-hour class had students of all ages and abilities and Megan who gave clear instructions also took the time to give us modifications, adjust our stance or explain what muscle groups we were working. But trust me she takes no prisoners despite the fact her sister and I were taking her class. I left drenched, drained but energized. And I was reminded about the muscle groups I worked into the next day. Needless to say she broke a few of my plateaus. Great class Megan!

Last night I went to Debora Jackson's class and was disturbed at the beginning of class when she suggested everyone sit in Sukhasana and press their heel into their perineum as they do Seated Pelvic Circles. It was a bit sexual and odd to me. I've taken yoga for 16 years and never had an instructor mention the perineum and describe what it's between.
She also spoke about the election and got political before class started which i felt was inappropriate. She invited everyone to go to the National Mall Saturday night saying they were going to burn an effigy - I assume of President-Elect Donald Trump. I come to yoga to exercise - not to be invited to a protest/riot about our new President.

I joined MtM over a year ago and I love it. I've belonged to other yoga studios back home in NY and none compare to Mind the Mat. We moved from Arlington to Alexandria, mainly because, if we had to move, I was set on staying close to MY pilates studio. Classes are always challenging and effective, and their schedule offers almost an impossible number of classes. The teachers are amazing and are always inventing new ways to get dormant muscles working (and sore). They are also friendly, funny, welcoming and accommodating for injuries or discomfort.
Not only has MtM helped change my body (I have a pilates butt now, never had a butt before), but it has brought my level of fitness up to one I never expected to reach with such simply targrted, mat-based movements.
This studio SHOULD get 5 stars from everyone, but nothing is perfect and the couple of bad reviews are from people who had one, rare "bad" experience or were expecting a different experience all together. I have been a client for over a year, I go 3-6x a week and I have yet to have a bad experience.
I <3 MtM

Excellent instructors and a welcoming space! The instructors know what they're doing. Classes are challenging yet safe, lots of cues and adjustments throughout. One of the few studios with hot pilates classes daily.
