Kudos to Brittany, my personal trainer at Onelife Fitness. In just two months, I have made significant progress gaining muscle mass, losing weight, and feeling more energized overall. I was hesitant to start weight training because of previous sports injuries, but she made me feel safe and created a careful and attentive plan tailored to my needs. She also incorporated nutrition guidance, cardio, and a warm, welcoming attitude while remaining highly professional. Thank you!

Tricked into 12 months of membership; credit card overcharged

I went here for awhile but for personal reasons had to stop going. I kindly asked to unsubscribe and they let me know I was locked into a 12 month dues contract.

Watch out before you go here. How is it fair to lock people into paying for services they no longer use?

After my request to cancel was denied, they also overcharged my dues by $20 and charged the wrong card.

BEWARE - The associates selling plans will lie to your face. They will verbally tell you the plans are month to month - when really it is a YEARLY contract. They bank on you trusting their word when signing.

Yes I know it is partly my fault - lesson learned, read the contract more thoroughly. But, I was mid doing something (had only quickly called for information purposes) when they kept saying “let’s just sign up now it will only take 5 minutes!” Ended up taking 30+ min and they do this to:
1) Get commission and
2) Apply pressure to sign without having the time to read everything

Onelife Fitness at Ballston is a wonderful gym, and the space continues to grow and add more amenities. There are already plentiful machines and free weights, as well as a welcoming staff, clean locker rooms, towel service and more.
I have been going there for several years now and am always treated with respect and assistance when needed.
I recommend it highly.

I have the best personal trainer that I see five days a week and he has made my transition to gym life easy. I have lost 47lbs since starting my journey at OneLife. I was reluctant thinking I’d waited to late in life to make this change at nearly 60. However, the staff has been extremely supportive and for that I’m grateful. If you’re in the market for top notch specialized training please reach out and schedule a consult with Greg M.

I have been working with Brittany Smith for about six months. She had taken the stretch training from Onelife which she is using on me but she incorporates it with her formal message therapy training that she is receiving in a program at night. She also uses the message gu deep tissue massager at different speeds. All these tricks (talents!!!) of hers work sosososo well on my legs. I am a very serious figure skater/ice dancer and I have MS so my legs take a beating and need special attention, strengthening and care. I love working with Brittany. She has been a life saver! She is so attentive to my daily needs and works on whatever hurts-- needs it the most -- that day. SO TALENTED! Plus, when we talk about what hurts, she always has tips for me to work on gym equipment which can strengthen weak muscles. VERY KNOWLEDGEABLE of anatomy and the human body. PLUS she's fun to talk to. We work in the 'Recover" room which sometimes to too noisy with the waterbeds for what we are doing. We need concentration and communication. Maybe when Onelife expands, stretch tables can have their own room. Love Onelife! Love Brittany!

I’ve been working with Brittany Smith for many years. I am naturally thin and she has worked carefully to develop a strength training regime for me which has helped me gain and retain lean muscle. She adjusts the work to keep a challenging pace and changes it up so that it is always stimulating.

Because she has experience competing, I know she is good at designing workouts for higher levels of body building, as well.

Finally, she has a warm and engaging personality, that makes her great company on the journey to fitness.

I started working with trainer Brittany at Onelife Ballston a couple of months ago, and it has made such a difference in my life! Brittany is a warm and friendly trainer who encourages and pushes me past what I would do on my own. She comes up with different workouts every time I meet with her, so I'm never bored, and I'm getting stronger and losing weight. Brittany also helps me with nutrition and recovery advice, so I'm getting the most out of my exercise. I actually look forward to going to the gym now. I'm so impressed with her knowledge and collaborative approach and highly recommend her for anyone looking to strength train with a professional. Thanks Brittany!

Just finished my first year with One Life Ballston, and it was overall a great decision.

The gym is well-equipped and always clean, which makes working out so much more enjoyable. Unfortunately, because it is so popular, it can get overwhelmingly crowded. Hopefully the second floor will be completed ASAP and this will help with that.

I highly recommend Aileen’s yoga class on Sundays, she is phenomenal and it is no coincidence that it always fills up!

In regard to personal training, you must go with Brittany Smith. Brittany is communicative, encouraging, and incredibly well versed in training and anatomy. Additionally, you will rarely do the same workout twice. She is creative and time efficient. I do 30 min sessions and always leave the gym feeling better (and more sore) then when I walked in. Brittany is a true gem! Her energy and enthusiasm are infectious. She took the time to understand my fitness goals and created a personalized workout plan that kept me engaged and challenged. With her constant support and encouragement, I have successfully lost 15 pounds in just three months!

If you're looking for a great gym experience and a trainer who genuinely cares about your progress, look no further than One Life Gym and Brittany Smith.

Choosing a personal trainer can be tough, but I couldn't be happier with my decision to work with Brittany. We started working together almost a year ago. From the start, she’s been incredibly flexible, always able to adjust our sessions to fit my ever-changing schedule. It's great that I don't have to miss working out for a week.
Brittany really takes the time to listen and understand my specific goals. She didn't just hand me a generic plan; she crafted a workout routine that's challenging and tailored to what I want to achieve. Her concern goes beyond the gym. We've had great conversations about my nutrition, and she’s offered practical, easy-to-follow advice that’s made a real difference in my progress.
Most importantly, working out with her is genuinely fun. She has a way of making even the toughest exercises doable and our sessions fly by. I always look forward to our time together. If you're looking for a personal trainer who is skilled, flexible, and truly invested in your success, Brittany is an excellent choice.

Last year, I was a refugee from a 'dive' gym about to go through major renovations. I decided to try the One Life Ballston location. My first impression: "Wow! It's so clean." That's how bad my old gym was where a lot of the equipment was not is working order (no chest press machine for weeks). The One Life staff was amazing and so friendly -- I mean like every single person-- it became my home gym on the spot.

Over the first few months, I got to know some of the trainers who were very helpful and gave me good advice about safely executing exercises that I was following on a video.

Shortly after, I decided to take advantage of a promotion and actually hired a trainer (1hr 2x per week). I met with the training manager who conducted a fitness evaluation and who paired me with a great trainer. My trainer has been with the gym for several years. Even in a short 3 months we've been working together, I gained muscle mass which is an important goal of mine. More important, I achieved visible results that are noticed by others. Another important goal of mine. I always feel tired and hungry after ever session. My trainer is proud when I am a little sore the next day and is always checking on me with text messages.

I do like the sweet spot when there's less people in the gym. However. I've also been at 'prime time' and folks are pretty reasonable and polite with one another when it's busy. It's probably the most diverse gym population - with a good gender mix that I've seen and most are serious about working out.

So if you're looking for a gym that is CLEAN, FRIENDLY, where can ACHIEVE RESULTS -- I recommend One Life Ballston.

Normally like this gym but their guest pass has gotten ridiculous. I understand limiting the number of people but it is embarrassing having a friend wanting to try out the gym and moving to the area but was denied even with a “free pass” because he did not have a lease on him and I had to pay $20.

Abd-Allah Kahtan (Kevin) is an excellent personal trainer! He’s very knowledgeable as well as kind and courteous. He shows a willingness and desire to understand one’s goals and help them achieve them and works hard to educate clients in what they are working on. He has you work hard, but safely and praises the good work done and likes to know how you feel during the training. I recommend Onelife Fitness in Ballston as they have great staff and a great facility and to seek out Abd-Allah (Kevin) to achieve your fitness goals and especially for hypertrophy. Awesome Gym!❤️Super clean! Reviews that say the opposite are most likely coming from other nearby gyms….I workout all the time, and have been to the others.
This is by far the best value for your money and time❗️

The equipment is old, disgusting, and a lot of the time broken. The weights area is always overcrowded and it’s difficult to get the machines you want to use. The locker room is usually gross.

I moved and attempted to cancel my membership and they are trying to make me pay the remaining fee. I would highly suggest other gyms in the area, even if they are a bit more expensive.

A decrepit and ramshackle facility staffed by incompetents.

The staff do not consistently open the doors on time. Seemingly, only one person is responsible for opening; when that person sleeps in, the gym does not open and your workout is delayed by ~45 minutes to an hour.

The equipment, mostly bottom-tier from a budget manufacturer, is generally in poor repair and scarce. Complaints from a year ago, made multiple times, are unaddressed. The staff have hung sheets with a QR code for a damaged equipment report; it is smugly labeled "Oops, I went too hard!", as if I had any responsibility for the negligence of the staff.

The trainers do not seem reputable. I have seen them teaching clients incorrect technique.

The facility is unpleasant. The bathrooms are usually unclean and not ventilated. The staff does not arrange the facility after hours, so there is equipment scattered around upon your arrival. The incessant pop music, popularized at extraordinary rendition sites, is loud enough to cut through noise cancelling earbuds. There are holes in the floor under the rubber mats such that there are trip-overable divots in the ground.

This business would not be solvent if there were a minimally capable competitor in a similar location. It is the worst gym I have patronized in ~10 years.

I am writing to express my disappointment regarding a recent experience at OneLife. Before my workout, I noticed I had a blister and approached the staff to request a simple bandage, only to be told that none were available. This was extremely concerning, given that a fitness facility is a place where minor injuries—such as blisters, cuts, and scrapes—are common occurrences.

A gym should always have basic first aid supplies readily accessible to ensure the safety and well-being of its members. The absence of something as essential as a bandage not only increases the risk of worsening an injury but also raises concerns about hygiene and safety. Even a small open wound can become infected, particularly in an environment where equipment is shared, and sweat is prevalent. Additionally, the inability to properly address minor injuries may force members to cut their workouts short, which is both frustrating and inconvenient.

It is the responsibility of a fitness facility to provide a safe environment for its members. Ensuring access to basic first aid items, such as bandages, antiseptic wipes, and ice packs, should be a priority. I strongly urge you to address this issue and ensure that essential medical supplies are consistently stocked.

The management does not care to fix and upgrade broken equipment and features and provide average service.

1. They charge double monthly fees in December to fix/upgrade equipment but they don't fix anything on time.
One year dues = 13 months!

2. The steam room has been broken for over a month since 12/10/2024. Photo is attached

3. The stretching mats are always missing or beat up. They won't replace them.

4. They will increase your monthly dues without any notice

5. The water fountain was broken for 2 months. The front desk is not bothered to pass the issue to management and get it fixed!

I switched from Gold's to Onelife this year, and I'm super happy with my choice! The facilities are clean, comfortable, and equipment is in great shape. Everyone working there is super friendly and helpful--special shout outs to James for the intro tour and helping get me signed up, and Kevin Kahtan who I've been training with since joining. I’m not new to strength training, but I felt like I was in a rut and plateauing after months of just working out on my own. Kevin listened to my fitness history and goals to design a program to help me get stronger, safely, which was important to me since I was also doing Physical Therapy for a running injury. In our first session, he told me that he’d have me maxing out on most of the machines, and by the 3rd or 4th session, that was true! He does a fantastic job of challenging and motivating me to reach my goals. He’s been communicative, patient, and a wonderful resource—I’ve learned a lot from him in a short time period. He’s also flexible and understanding, modifying workouts when I’ve been more sore/tired than usual. I highly recommend working with him at Onelife if you’re looking for a serious coach to train with.

I've been a member of One Life Fitness for quite some time and have visited several locations, but I can confidently say that the Ballston location stands out as more than just a gym—it's a true community that makes you feel like family. From the moment I walked in, I was greeted warmly by both the staff and other members. Joana, D, and JJ always bring high energy and motivation, getting my gym partner and me excited for our workouts. They're honestly the main reason I felt inspired to write this review. Every time we walk in, we're met with smiles and are eager to see them. They really are the heart and soul of the gym and deserve recognition. Seeing them is like a natural pre-workout. On top of that, the atmosphere is consistently positive, with a strong sense of camaraderie that makes every visit enjoyable. It's so welcoming that we often prefer this location over our home gym.

The trainers here are exceptional— and i’ve never taken a session with any of them. They are super nice and seem very knowledgeable and have even offered us their personal equipment when we couldn’t find something. But what really made me mentions the trainers was every interaction I’ve had with Chris. He is by far the kindest, most genuine dude on the floor. He truly makes our day every time we see him.

I’m truly grateful for the supportive, family-like culture they’ve built at this location, and I look forward to continuing my fitness journey with them by my side.

After a two-year break from OneLife Fitness to focus on running, I decided to return because I wanted to focus on strength. The gym offered a free assessment and a session with a personal trainer, which is how I met Kevin.

Since working with him, I’ve seen great progress in both fat loss and muscle gain. I feel stronger, more stable, and my posture has improved—a big relief for my back. Kevin also encouraged me to join his Saturday core and mobility classes, which have become one of my favorite parts of the week. These sessions complement my strength work and have made a noticeable difference in how I feel day-to-day.

What really stands out about Kevin is how detailed and thoughtful he is. He explains each exercise clearly, shows me how to do it, and ensures my form is always correct. This focus on technique has helped me avoid injuries and get the most out of every workout.

Kevin has also been a great resource for nutrition advice, offering simple, practical tips that fit with my lifestyle. I’m really happy with the progress I’ve made so far and grateful for Kevin’s guidance and encouragement along the way.

DO NOT SIGN UP! This is an update to a review I made 10 months ago and nothing has changed about the terrible sauna temperature that the owner refuses to change. To add insult to injury, the times it shows that they’re open for on the app is actually wrong. They close even earlier. Do they not realize that people work all week and would like to be able to go to gym at later hours on the weekends, after we’ve rested and took care of all of our errands? This place is so disappointing to get into a contract with. Everyone I speak to agrees on both of these issues.

What an amazing experience here. I had to evacuate from Georgia due to Hurricane Helene, and I stayed with family that lives in the NOVA area. I called this OneLife, explained my situation and that I used to be a OneLife member before moving. They were able to give me a week pass for my wife and I for free, and they were so welcoming and understanding of our situation! Absolutely great staff! On top of that, the gym is just so clean and gives an incredibly professional aroma. 10/10 great OneLife, thank you all so much for helping us out!

When I came into Onelife looking to meet with a trainer to help me lose a chunk of weight, I expected to get a package of sessions and workout with them once or twice a month and workout on my own between sessions. Meeting Kevin I learned he had experience with significant personal weight loss, and our personalities seemed to mesh well. I decided to commit to three sessions a week at least to start and after working with Kevin for about a month that the investment has absolutely been worth it.

In this relatively short time, I have achieved measurable increases not only in the weight I can lift during sessions, but in body composition as well. Kevin has done an excellent job of putting together a program that meets me where I am but is also full of compound movements that help with everyday strength and mobility. In particular, he has done a good job of getting my maximum effort from me even on days where I may be struggling and doing so with a positive, supportive brand of motivation. In addition, he has also held me back just a bit when it comes to days I am doing great or with muscle groups that are stronger than others ensuring I don’t get out of balance or injure myself.

I highly recommend Kevin to anyone looking for a dedicated and effective personal trainer.

On personal training - I have just begun my personal training sessions with Kevin and look forward to what I can achieve led by his expertise. Based on new medical diagnoses, my regular workout routine was no longer benefitting me. I looked for a helper in maintaining and improving my strength, that helper is Kevin. During our initial time together, he listened to understand my experience and capability. He then designed workouts that challenge me and have me leaving each session feeling accomplished. During each session he encourages me with his ‘can do’ attitude and conversational nature that keeps me focused to complete the repetitions and motivated to finish my workout. In a few short weeks, the amount of weight I thought I could not lift, I lifted with ease, thanks to Kevin’s technique. I feel that if you are new to working out or an athlete interested in working on technique, training with Kevin will provide you with the results you desire.

I want to take a moment to share my experience with Abdullah (Kevin) as my personal trainer. After years of occasional cardio workouts that yielded minimal results, I became bored with my routine. One day, I decided to add weights but ended up injuring my neck due to improper use.

That’s when I asked for help at the front desk, and Kevin was brought in. I was immediately impressed by his professionalism, knowledge, and energy. I signed up for sessions within a couple of days. Since then, Kevin has taught me proper stretching techniques and introduced me to new weightlifting exercises. Each session is a fun and challenging full-body workout, pushing me to my limits while ensuring I use the correct form and breathing techniques.

I also began working with Kevin to address my neck and hip pain. His deep understanding of anatomy allowed him to quickly identify my strengths and weaknesses. With his guidance, I’ve built strength and stamina while feeling safe during workouts. Kevin always ensures my technique is correct, significantly reducing my risk of injury. Thanks to his support, I’ve lost weight and inches off my waist and body fat. I now have more stamina and feel stronger than ever. His positive energy and diverse workouts keep me motivated, even on challenging days.

I truly appreciate Kevin's dedication and personalized approach, which have made a significant difference in my fitness journey. I wholeheartedly recommend him to anyone looking for a knowledgeable and inspiring trainer.

Nice gym and great trainers - specifically Kevin who is phenomenal! After not having been to the gym in months due to a broken wrist, it was difficult for me to return back to my old routine. After just two sessions with him, he helped me with my motivation and get me back to looking forward to entering the gym. From the start, he has helped me figure out my goals and has given me a customized program to work through and view my progress.

While the one-hour full body sessions are intense, he has pushed me and shown me what I am truly capable of doing. This is supplemented with his great insight and knowledge on proper form, techniques, and mindset. In particular, he has taken great care in making sure I can be healthy and improve my performance through ways outside of the gym with nutrition and lifestyle advice. I went from barely making it 30 minutes into a session to pushing my limits through the entire hour.

As someone who has frequently gone to the gym over the past couple of years, it has truly been a breath of fresh air to work with Kevin. By returning to basics and building a solid foundation of form and mindset, it has taken me just a month to break through plateaus that I had been stuck on for almost a year. If you are looking to build your physical fitness, find motivation, and build a strong mentality, you have to work with Kevin.

Signed up and got a couple free sessions of personal training. Coach Kevin is great—highly recommend if you're motivated and want to see results quickly. Overall, the gym is clean and well kept. It's in Ballston Quarter, so very accessible by metro but also if you drive, there's a parking garage attached to the mall and OneLife is right next to the entrance on the fourth floor. The membership pricing at this location is pretty competitive with other gyms in the area ($43/53 per month for basic/premier) so combined with the location and general vibe of the gym, you're getting the bang for your buck.

One month ago, I joined OneLife Fitness as a new member & received two complimentary personal training sessions. Several years ago, I had a helpful, informative experience with a personal trainer who offered a weightlifting regimen to compliment my existing cardio routines. I figured "Why not use these sessions?"

I had the pleasure of being assigned to work with Abdulla Khatan (known as Kevin). Within these two complimentary hours, I realized personal training could be a great deal more than my past experience. Kevin did an extensive assessment, observation, and detailed initial workout. He modified exercises whenever indicated and offered encouragement at every step. I learned so much about proper posture, hand & foot placement and positioning on equipment. Again, these learnings were from the first two sessions.

Based on this initial experience, I inquired about continuing to meet based on my variable schedule. There was no sales pressure, and we agreed upon a series of appointments to enhance my strength, confidence, and learning. Kevin has utilized coaching, repetition, reinforcement & feedback to make each session build on the last. My exercises are clearly displayed in a tracking tool to remind me of individual exercise details and document progress over time. After a month, I feel much more capable to maintain & build muscle while enjoying a clear, manageable workout routine. Kevin has made a big difference in my routine– he's a gifted, upbeat coach who is always monitoring my engagement and safety. He carefully reviews new learnings & routinely seeks feedback and questions. I would recommend Kevin to anyone looking for a talented personal training professional.

My Testimonial for Coach Abdulla Khahtan “Kevin”

I want to express my deepest gratitude to my coach, Abdulla Khahtan, who I know as Kevin. Since I came to the United States, I had never considered working with a trainer before, as I’ve always gone to the gym on my own. Back in my home country and here as well, I trained alone for years but never saw the results I was hoping for. I’d lift some weights, feel a slight pump, and go home, only to feel like nothing had changed after a few days.

I lacked discipline, organization, and proper training methods. My workouts were inconsistent, with long breaks between sessions, and I never felt like I was making real progress. So when I joined One Life Fitness, I decided it was time to try something different. I asked the staff to recommend a trainer, and they suggested Kevin. Little did I know that this decision would be one of the biggest blessings in my life.

From the very first day, I realized I had never experienced this level of focus, discipline, and expertise in my training. Kevin crafted a personalized, tailor-made program that perfectly suited my body’s needs. He took the time to understand my posture issues and the areas where I needed the most work. His attention to detail and understanding of my body’s strengths and weaknesses set him apart. His ability to know exactly what exercises would bring me progress was incredible.

Now, after almost two months of training with Kevin, I can confidently say that I see and feel real transformation. It’s like I’ve never truly exercised before. My body is changing in ways I never thought possible, and every session leaves me feeling satisfied and accomplished. Kevin is disciplined, focused, and fully dedicated to helping me achieve my goals. When I look in the mirror, I finally see progress – something I’d been missing for years.

Kevin is truly a rare find, and I feel incredibly fortunate to be training with him. This is the truth, believe me.

I’ve been going to this gym for over a year now and have gotten my Inbody Scan results reviewed by various trainers. I’ve never felt the need to get a personal trainer until I met Abdulla Kahtan (Kevin). He went straight to business, set tangible goals to achieve and gave me a customized program to follow that would expedite my progress. A month later I happened to get my results reviewed by him again and he was pleased to see my reductions in body fat % while preserving muscle mass and convinced me to do a session with him.

The 1 hour full body workout was the most intense session I’d ever undertaken and it was humbling. Abdulla showed me what was humanely possible and got every ounce of effort out of me while maintaining proper form & breathing techniques. His attention to detail when it came to assessing my muscular imbalances, adjusting the machines to ensure proper leverage, focusing on my posture and mindset prior to initiating an exercise is second to none.

His foundational approach ensures every aspect of the kinetic chain both anterior & posterior is working in sync and the sheer amount of knowledge he dispenses casually is pure gold for any fitness enthusiast. His sessions made me realize that I could achieve 6 to 9 months of progress within 12 weeks with him and I immediately inquired about his availability and signed up to train under him.

As always, every student is looking for the right teacher and Abdulla has been a great friend, instructor, mentor, and motivator all in one. I’m excited for my journey in these next couple months with him to become a better athlete and would reccomend him to anyone who is looking to make a serious effort in improving their physical fitness and their mentality towards becoming the best version of themselves. You the man Mr. Kahtan!

Best,

I am writing to express my profound disappointment and frustration with Onelife Fitness in Arlington. I signed up for a personal training program with a clear understanding that my contract was strictly for three months. This was explicitly stated in bold at the top of the contract. There was no clear mention of an automatic renewal policy, nor was this ever communicated to me verbally—before signing, during, or after the contract period ended.
Only later I discovered that a clause regarding automatic renewal was hidden at the bottom of the contract in fine print. This critical detail was not highlighted or explained, and as someone whose first language is not English, I found it incredibly misleading and unfair. Not once was I offered a translation or a clear explanation of these terms, which is a basic courtesy and legal expectation when dealing with non-native speakers.
Furthermore, the quality of the training sessions was poor and did not meet my expectations. I would never have agreed to continue beyond the initial three months based on my experience.
Upon completing my three-month contract, the gym continued to charge me $340 per month without my knowledge or consent for extra 4 months!!!, resulting in $1,360 paid for services I did not request, use, or agree to receive. Even more disturbing is that Onelife Fitness began scheduling fake training sessions in my name—appointments I never made and never attended—clearly to justify these unauthorized charges. This conduct is not only unethical but borders on fraudulent behavior, raising serious questions about the integrity of your business practices.
When I brought these issues to the general manager Darian, I expected accountability and a swift resolution. Instead, I was met with evasive answers, misleading information, and no action to resolve the ongoing unauthorized charges. Despite knowing that I was not using the services and seeing continued, unwarranted billing, the management failed to take any meaningful steps to correct the situation.
I am left with no choice but to escalate this matter beyond the local management, as it is clear that my concerns are being ignored and that there is a deliberate effort to obscure the truth.
I hope that upper management at Onelife Fitness will take these issues seriously and intervene to correct this injustice. It is my firm belief that only through direct involvement from the highest levels of leadership will this matter be resolved fairly. My trust in your organization has been severely damaged.
Onelife Fitness needs to prioritize honesty, transparency, and respect for its customers. Until then, I strongly advise others to avoid this gym if they value their rights as consumers.

Stellar Gym

Clean. Both the restrooms, locker room, gym floor are always clean. You always see a member of the gym cleaning up. And the members always wipe down there equipment and re-rack their weights.

Good equipment

It has everything you need. There's no piece of equipment I can think of that's not present. Ample benches, squat racks, and machines, both plate loaded and cable.

Everything is sectioned in a way that works

Squat racks are in one area, benches in another, machines and cable sec in another. The floor plan works really well.

It's reasonably priced. No hidden gotcha fees. Everything is up front and above board. Jane helped me when I signed up and she was phenomenal. All the staff are really nice.

The Onelife fitness gym in Ballston is conveniently located on I think the 4th floor of a mall. You have to pay for parking here (some other Onelife locations around Fairfax and elsewhere have free parking). The inside was remodeled a few years ago, so it’s less stinky than the other locations, except the women’s restroom always smells unsanitary. I can’t speak to the condition of the men’s room.

I used the gym a few times, mainly for the classes, but in my experience the classes were too crowded. When I attended Barre class I couldn’t always actually get a spot on the bar, and the people who were on the bar were too close to do the movements in good form. Props to the instructors though, the three I had were really good.

If you decide to sign up for membership here, you’ll find the sign up process super easy. If you want to quit your membership, they’ll tell you to put it in writing and give 30 days notice. This is where my issues began.

I tried to remove my teen from our family membership back in April, emailing all the required info to drop my teen from our family plan. I showed the person at the membership desk the email, to make sure it was all I needed to do. They told me (in person at the membership desk) that it was all the info they needed. A few days later I got an email (which I missed, since they email me multiple times a week) asking for additional information (like how I wanted to handle the membership, did I want to become the primary member, etc.). I didn’t reply fast enough, so they just kept billing me monthly for both of us. Turns out I needed to let them know that I would take over as primary member, but since I didn’t tell them they just kept billing me with both of us still on the plan.

I called again today and spoke to Joanna the assistant manager of membership. She can’t make decisions about things like refunding me the past month when I clearly wanted someone removed (80 days ago), so she had me talk to Darian, the highest manager of membership. He also will not refund the past month or even July’s membership charge coming up (we’re starting the clock over on the 30 day notice here at June 29 again with today’s email I just sent). My gym access will go thru early August. So 3-1/2 months to quit the place.

Not that this applies to my situation, but I also learned today that you have to buy your way out of your membership if you want to cancel in less than a year, unless you start out month-to-month. I have no idea or recollection if I knew that when we joined, but just be aware.

If you want a nice gym, you’ll probably need to go to the gym next door called VIDA. It’s less crowded with nicer amenities (and it doesn’t smell), but costs more. You’ll have the same membership extraction challenges there, so just be prepared. My friends say you also have to pay to park there as well.

If money is a big factor, I think Gold’s gym and the Purple 24 hour gyms are more affordable, and both of these have free parking. 🅿️

It's not their fault they're located in Ballston mall but because they are there are consistent issues with false fire alarms going off and the power going out. The mall also controls the temperature, not the gym, so it's set too hot in the winter and too cold in the summer.

I’ve been a member at OneLife for about three years. I’ve tried three locations since living in the area and the Ballston location is great. It certainly brings in a younger crowd (mostly 20-35 y/o) which may taint the experience for someone outside of that age range. However, it’s a tight community and many of the members socialize and build relationships there because of the camaraderie it creates. In terms of space, it’s not a large gym, and can get really crowded after work hours, but is wonderful midday/off hours. The staff there are always kind and friendly, the trainers will provide quick advice as needed and the custodial staff does a great job keeping it clean. For what you’re paying in the area, you’re getting a great deal for the machines, locker room space, sauna and steam rooms. Highly recommend OneLife Ballston ◡̈

Love the gym (they could use a few more benches though) and the staff. However, I changed bank accounts. I gave the club my new debit card and went in the app and changed my account info. They billed my old account causing an overdraft fee. I went to the club, they gave me an email address to reach out to. After several emails back and forth, they told me they were not going to credit me the $35 overdraft fee that they caused by billing my old account. I replied that it was their prerogative, but it was also my prerogative to explore finding another gym. So silly for them to lose a member (and get a bad review) over $35, but that is their call.

Their minimum age requirement is 11-year-old. I would’ve gladly paid multiple day passes to show my nephew how to use this gym, but because they could make a profit off of trying to sell him sports training protocol they wouldn’t let me take my family member and show him how to use equipment.

I joined OneLife Fitness at Ballston almost 6 months ago, and I am so happy I did! I felt immediately welcomed and "at home." I scouted out several other nearby facilities but I just did not like the vibe as much at the others. The gym is exceptionally spacious and clean and bright, the staff are always pleasant and down to earth, and the price is right. Unlike at some other gyms, I have never had to wait in line for cardio or weight machines or free weights or other equipment, even when the gym is busy. The locker room is huge with tons of space and the shower area has been spotless since I've been a member. I found the contract terms and fee disclosures in both the membership sign up process and the personal training sign up process to be fully straightforward. My personal trainer has helped me regain so much of my strength in a relatively short period of time that I am amazed! OneLife is truly great value for the cost. Oh, and tons of parking is available in the Ballston parking garage directly accessible to the gym. 3 hours for $1 - a great bargain!

I will start by saying I joined this gym with great intentions because I wanted more equipment options compared to my apartment gym and amenities, which I got. I did not want to be locked into a contract. Most gym are very transparent about whether you are entering a contract or not. Well not this one. PLEASE READ THE FINE PRINT. I went through the process of trying out the gym, and I signed up online and I looked out for the words that say 12 month contract only to miss it in a dropdown menu in smaller print. There is no way to get out of it unless you are relocating. I feel like they purposely do this and it's unethical of them. I will be canceling my membership at the end of the 12 agreement if I do not relocate before then. The attached photos show how easy it was to miss the fact that you're signing up for a contract. I'm sure I wasn't the only one. The photos are from the skyline site, but they are all the same with terms.

Surprisingly good (not amazing) gym for oly lifters. Better than Golds. They have TWO 15kg barbells which are in good condition. Everything is lbs so get ready with your calculator. I’ve never had an issue waiting for a platform. Occasional waits for squat racks. People reviewing this place have ridiculous expectations given the low price point and location. Yes, it will be busy. So will any gym under $200 in NOVA, let alone one this close to a university.

I've had a good experience at Onelife Ballston so far. Joanna signed me up and she was clear about the 12-month commitment, annual membership fee, and monthly dues. There's a signup fee, a separate annual membership fee, and a monthly due, but if you catch a sale then it's great value.

The basic membership tier gives you access to all the machines, unlimited classes, and use of the showers/steam rooms/bathrooms. Gyms in Ballston are all pricey and OneLife is middle of the pack. I love that all the classes are included in the base fee and you don't have to commit to going at the same time every week, just sign up in the app the day before you wanna go.

The facilities are clean and machines have always been working when I go. The class instructors are good at their jobs and create a positive environment, you're actively encouraged to adapt the routines to your ability level and there's no shame if you can't do every part of the workout or need a break midway. This has made it very accessible to me as a beginner.

I can corroborate that the women's sauna has been broken since January 2024 at least, so if that's a selling point for you then be aware. I wish they'd fix it...

I've been in Ballston location only couple of times, my experience was good until yesterday. I took my sisters first time to try Onelife, and we were treated very rudely and unfriendly by manager Joanna. I was very disappointed the way she talked with us. We didn't expect to receive such bad service. Will not be recommending this location for sure.

This is a gym with wonderful staff and very good equipment. They are very crowded starting around 4:30pm until about 7pm. Mornings aren’t much better. And it’s not just January. Luckily I have access to a gym at work so now I’m back in the office I can still work out.

Coming from the Reston Onelife (which I would give a 5 star review on), my experience has been mixed but overall negative:

Pro's:
- very nice location
- great views from the cardio room
- staff are mostly friendly
- Locker rooms are spacious and clean
- Large calisthenics area
- 5-6 power lifting stations with bumper plates.

Con's:
- Organization. I put 80% of this on the members but the plates are never organized - you'll often find a 25 lb plate in front of a 5 lb plate in front of a 45 lb plate. Again, I put this mostly on the members but it would be nice if there were more notices telling members it's proper etiquette to put the plates back in the right spots along with periodic organization by the staff. There's also a limited number of plates. I've often had to walk across the gym to find a set of 5 lb or 10 lb plates. Posted picture shows disorganized weights around 5 am, right after the gym opens.
- Overcrowding. If you go between 5 and 7 pm on a weekday, good luck using any of the equipment. Before 7 am and probably after 7 pm are really the only useable times of day. Not a huge issue for me being an early bird but I'd still like to have more flexibility.
- Consistent operating hours. There's been a few occasions now where the gym doesn't open until 5 or more minutes past the operating hours. As I right this review, it's 725 am on a Saturday and no one is even inside the building.
- Parking. I typically go right at 5 am when the gym opens. I can usually find street parking which is free before 8 am and on weekends but if I go later in the day or if there's no street parking it's $1.35 ($1 plus a $0.35 "service charge"), even if it's less than an hour. Not a huge deal but if you're going later in the day and plan to get there by car, you're effectively adding $27 a month to the membership assuming you go 5 days a week.
- Equipment. There's a wide variety of machines but some equipment is noticeably absent. For example, the Hammerstrength machines aren't a full set. It's understandable though with the limited space they have to work with

My time at Onelife has been very disappointing. The sauna is always out of order. This was the main reason I joined the gym and I haven't been able to use it at all. The overcrowding at the gym has become a significant problem. The hygiene in the steam room is another notable concern. Clumps of hair in the steam room are not only unappetizing but also raise questions about the cleanliness and maintenance standards of the facility.

OneLife Fitness also enforces a strict 12-month binding contract. The refusal to allow members out of their contracts, unless they move 25 miles away from a OneLife facility, seems excessively restrictive. Life circumstances change, and members should have reasonable options to adjust their commitments accordingly, especially for a gym that is not living up to their end of the contract.

All of the staff at the Ballston location have been wonderful so far. Joanna was nice enough to explain the membership options to me and was kind enough to answer all my questions. But the main reason why I am writing this email is to express how grateful I am to have worked with Elizabeth this afternoon. She is professional , respectful, wise and personable. I’ve been to many gyms and worked with multiple personal trainers but this experience was different. She took the time to thoroughly explain my body scan, my goals and the four steps of health. I felt like she “heard” me when I told her my concerns about my health. The other trainers I’ve worked with made it seem like they were reading from a script but Elizabeth was genuine with everything she said. I am excited to work with her on achieving my goals for this upcoming year. She is fantastic at what she does and has the energy to match it. #beboppinginasize10

I had some rough time here with one of the personal trainer but working with Leah here was just amazing. She really understood me and helped me with my personal training. I also appreciate how Darian handled overall situation with my charges. The gym is great place where I love to attend yoga classes, go to sauna and have hydro massage after my weight training.

I was a member of this gym for many years before moving to FL. On my many trips back to Arlington I workout at this gym as a guest former member. The young man at the front desk by the name of Habib who checked me in on a Saturday morning deserves recognition for being friendly, professional and welcoming, qualities that are rare these days. Great hire OneLife!

Excellent fitness center located centrally in Ballston, equipped with all the essential machines and tools. However, be prepared for some wait time to use the equipment during busy hours from Monday to Friday, 5-7 pm. Apart from this minor inconvenience, it offers superb value for money.

Used to go to golds and gave this place a shot, really clean and nice facility. Joana was the sales rep that gave me the tour, she went on about how she used to work at golds and how she didn’t agree with what their members had to go through in order to cancel memberships. Six months into my membership here. I told Joana that I have moved due to working out in Loudoun, I mentioned to her you probably haven’t seen me in a month due to my job being 45 min away. Because of the lack of convince I would need to cancel.

Her reply was well you committed to 12 months, i replied well you told me if I moved I would no longer be responsible for a cancelation fee. That’s when she notified me it had to be more than 25 miles away. If I were to cancel it would cost me three times a monthly fee. The irony is it was Joana who told me about golds making it difficult to cancel, by the way golds allowed me to terminate my membership no questions asked no cancellation fee in order to come to one life

Lastly the steam room and sauna are always out of service.

Always a great place for a workout. The class instructors are so encouraging and really makes you want to come to class and workout. The gym is definitely very packed, to the point of having to wait for machines or free weights at times 5:30-7-7:30pm daily, but it bearable. A swimming pool and jacuzzi would be a great addition.

My overall experience with OneLife is good--good infrastructure and decent open hours. The problems start as soon as you need their intervention. For instance, it takes forever to fix gym machines when they break (often several weeks); the same applies to the sauna, which has been closed a few times since I joined, taking a few months to be operational again. Furthermore, they recently messed up my registration and seem unable to fix it. I used their towel service since joining almost two years ago. However, since last month, I've been unable to use the towel machine, which requests me to subscribe to a service I already pay for. I've talked to staff and the manager, who reassures me I'm already subscribed to the towel service. I've been told they are looking into the issue to get it fixed; however, it has already been a month without any updates.

Cancellation is super frustrating. It shouldn't be as hard as it is. I tried to cancel three months in advance and still have to pull teeth just to get them to cancel a membership.

Lots of dedicated space for different purposes: Yoga room, spinning class area, aerobics area, cardio machines, weight machines, massage room, etc. Super friendly staff, amazing trainers, and easy parking. Yes, at peak hours there are bros hogging machines while looking at their phones, but otherwise it is a great gym!

For such a small gym in a mall, it has managed to be one of the best gyms ive ever been too. When I go in I feel like I’m a part of a whole community and the staff and managers definitely play a big part in that. Service is super friendly and the management will have your back too if other members step out of line with you. It’s got a lot of good equipment and free classes and I hope this place never closes down!
