I've been working with Nathan at Overcome for almost a year now, and going to my workouts has become highlights of my week. Nathan was able to accommodate a time that works great for me, and I show up enthusiastic and ready to work.
The Overcome gym is incredibly welcoming to its members. The mood is light and friendly, and welcoming to everyone. Nathan himself is a huge bodybuilding nerd, which is exactly what I need. He can discourse on music, video games, cooking, nutrition, philosophy, and proper form for a Romanian deadlift, usually all within a single session. He's relentlessly encouraging, and also very very attuned to proper form for exercises. He does not pile on weights until he's satisfied that I can manipulate them properly. Nathan changes up the routine every six weeks or so, so going to the gym always feels fresh, and I leave each workout energized and excited for the day to come.
A great thing about going to Overcome is the accountability. It helps me a lot to know I have an appointment with a specific person who has allocated an hour of his day for me. This makes it very hard to find an excuse not to go to the gym if I'm just feeling a little tired, and in fact I've never missed a workout due to feeling like I had too much on my schedule or was just "not feeling it." And the regular attendance is paying off! I don't feel like the two hours a week I spend at Overcome deprive me of time to do other things-- to the contrary, the focus and energy I get from my morning workouts help me manage more things during the day.
In December, an old shoulder injury flared up. Nathan got in touch with my physical therapist, and now my workouts complement the PT exercises I have. My shoulder pain is rapidly fading, and my workouts are designed to help heal the injury, not exacerbate it. Nathan is always interested in understanding the whole client and working to meet them where they are.
I currently go to Nathan 2 days a week, but am strongly considering pushing it to 3. Heck, I'd go every day if I had the opportunity-- it's really a pleasure to work out at Overcome, and I have brought in a few friends over the months who have joined as well, so I'm not the only one who is so pro-Nathan and pro-Overcome Fitness!

Nathan is an invaluable resource for not only nutrition and fitness, but general motivation achieving goals. I leave every conversation with him feeling energized and motivated. I started from absolute zero, and 3 months later, I am eating healthier, exercising, and on my own personal physical and mental wellness journey with Nathan's help. I highly recommend his coaching; he's like a personal trainer, nutrition coach, and therapist in one package. Thank you Nathan, I truly appreciate you!

I've been working out with Nathan for 3 months. I've never seriously worked out in a gym before, but Nathan has actually made it kinda fun. And even in only 3 months, it's crazy the progress I've made in strength and flexibility. Can't wait to see where I am in a year.

Nathan is top notch. Worked closely with me and gave great feedback. We focused on nutrition, but Nathan is so much more than that. He takes a holistic approach understanding your habits and working within those to create a plan that can work for you. I highly recommend signing up with him. The whole thing is an incredible value!

Training with Nathan has been one of the best life decisions I've made to date. My goal with Nathan was to build back muscle and achieve a healthy weight, both of which I had lost during the pandemic. Prior to the pandemic, I saw two different trainers and had gained a modest 10-12 lbs of healthy weight over the course of 1 year. By the time I (barely) built up the motivation to seek a new trainer and start over from scratch, I was weak, skinny, unconfident, and generally anxious. I couldn't motivate myself to go to the gym, and I would get down on myself for having lost all of what I had built prior to the pandemic.
I checked out about three different trainers in the area and was immediately blown away by Nathan'a approach. He was responsive, inquisitive, empathetic, realistic, and optimistic. We sat down 1:1 for our first intake session, and Nathan was incredibly approachable, asked great questions, and made clear his vision for how we'd work together -- all completely tailored to my body and my goals.
Only six months into my sessions with Nathan, I gained 20 lbs of healthy weight (exceeding my goal of gaining back 10-12 lbs), have broken (and blown out of the water) personal records in every weightlifting exercise I'd ever done with the other two trainers (who were also great, btw), and am generally much stronger, more mentally stable, and more confident than I have ever been. I've even had to buy new pants and shorts because my legs and glutes are so strong now. It's only the second time in my life I have been actually confident enough to be seen in a bathing suit.
Nathan has the unique ability to balance kindness and empathy with discipline and encouragement. He is always checking in with me when I am training with him -- when I arrive, between sets, and when I leave. He has an excellent read on my body's performance and knows when to push me and when to back off. He is a stickler for proper form, which I love, because good habits are the foundation of future success. My path has not been linear, however, and Nathan is realistic about balancing the demands of training and proper nutrition with the unpredictability of life.
Nathan also goes above and beyond my expectations. I train five days per week but only train with Nathan three days per week. Taking a wholistic approach to my training, Nathan constructed exercise plans for my solo days, and we track progress for those sessions as pieces of the whole puzzle. He also gives me general nutrition tips to help me achieve my goals and checks in with me periodically on my nutrition intake and sleep.
Oh, and he has a great sense of humor and diverse taste in music, which makes going to the gym in the early morning all the more tolerable -- and enjoyable. This guy clearly loves what he does, and it shows in his enthusiasm, even at the crack of dawn...as long as he has coffee in his system. :)

Deciding to work with Nathan as my personal trainer was a game-changer for me. When I started I was out of shape, awkward in the gym, and barely able to complete more than a push-up or two. Nathan was incredibly kind and encouraging while consistently pushing me to reach my goals, even if I may have felt like giving up at the time. He always explained the purpose behind each exercise, and why maintaining the correct posture was so important. So not only was I getting in shape, I also felt like I was getting an education.
Now, I no longer feel like a lost puppy when I enter the gym. I’m able to do multiple rounds of push-ups off the floor. I can hustle heavy luggage through the airport without breaking a sweat. I have muscle definition. I am actually looking forward to swimsuit season… The list goes on. Getting in shape improved my life in so many ways, large and small, it’s almost hard to quantify; and I couldn’t have done that without Nathan’s help or consistency.
If you’re considering starting your personal fitness journey, I don’t think you could be in better hands.
