Building is nice inside & out. I love that they have a steam room AND a sauna. The not so good - The weekend hours, are my only complaint. Closing at 6pm on Saturday & closing ot 4pm on Sunday is a bit odd & rather early for a place of fitness. Staff are nice, but sometimes I feel that the customer service is a bit lacking (not rude or unprofessional) I just expect a little more 'upbeat & a 'super nice' demeanor when entering the YMCA. Sometimes when making inquiries about something in the gym, responses can be summed up as 'dismissive, quick & just plain Jane'. For example if I ask about why the coffee is out, the response may be "its just out, we only fill it up once" I feel a better response would be something more like "Hi there, I apologize for that, currently we only service the coffee station once, every morning, but we'll keep that in mind, thank you!" Not a big deal at all, its just when you've traveled to other gyms, you immediately notice minor things like that. Essentially, happy etiquette can be lacking. It is Petersburg though

I love everything about the y but how they don’t keep it clean. The bathrooms, lockers, and showers are always nasty. It doesn’t matter who’s the manager or how much you report it it’s still dirty! I’ve been a member for about 18 years and the last 5 years it’s been dirty! And many people saying it’s clean.. maybe to them! Visit AMFAM and you’d easily see the difference.

When it comes to YMCA’s this is the absolute bottom of the barrel. So many things could be mentioned about this horrific YMCA. Their sauna and steam room is shut down twice a month, they never have lifeguards (if they actually paid them even close to a decent wage I’m sure they would). It’s just such a bad establishment to carry the YMCA name.

I am just beginning my health journey. I am disabled and can barely walk, in fact I bought a wheelchair so my aid can push me to the pool because it's just too far away for me to walk. So far I have been coming to the YMCA every other day or close to it and I am just walking in the water back and forth and I am so pleased with my performance! I am able to walk for 45 minutes at a time! Outside of the water I can only walk about 30 feet!

Everyone at this facility is so kind but I specifically want to shout out the incredible people in the child watch area. Not only do they make me feel so comfortable leaving my child with them but they also engage with them and genuinely care. Love this facility; they have the best teachers for workout classes. Shirron and Arlene’s classes are a must try! The facility is always clean and welcoming. Highly recommend Arlene’s Aqua Zumba class and Shirron’s Les Mills Body Pump. These ladies rock! The director Marco is very responsive and will give support/guidance to members, however needed. Thankful for the team at the Petersburg Y!

I pay for what to limit on my days off of work to come to this facility and have a time limit it has to go back to regular procedures games tournaments in the gym should not start early in the morning some people still has to work adult time is the first part of the day and youths the second part of the day can you please stop making my time and other people that pay a very short time to exercise because thats what basketball is thank you it will be much appreciated thank you 12 pm should be the cut time for basketball

I love this facility so much! I have recently gotten a membership, and so far I have had nothing but a great experience with reconditioning my body and playing basketball. This is a newly built facility, the staff are really courteous of taking the time to assist new members. The equipment is top of the line and there is always not to much of a crowd in this YMCA. I highly recommend this Y for anyone that wants to work out with some of the best equipment, share good vibes with others, and to be in a spacious, and modern fitness environment that is relatively peaceful.

Very nice family friendly YMCA. Jimmy helped me get started and was super cool. I haven't tried the others yet to compare but I do enjoy here already. I've been to a couple of cycling classes with Eva and she's been great! Really pushes you to your limit.

I can only suggest to

1. Update your child watch hours online so they reflect the correct information of 5-8pm, M-f.

2. Have flexible child watch hours.

Online the hours state 3:45-7:15pm M-f . I also would love the opportunity to use other classes if even once a week during the day time so it'd be nice to have those hours as an option. Like I said, once a week at minimum. 🙏🏾

The hours I seen upon sign up were a deciding factor for me also only to find the difference after paying the fee, so please update the information for others. Even the customer service line for the area stated the same hours that are online and once again, they are not correct.

Update: 3 years later. I still enjoy the classes and the instructors.

The pool area is very misleading and unorganized. They often say they have a lane open and idk if this is for higher management but they will close it for practice. Okay understandable. However don't waste people's time...update the app. Period.

The swimming instructor for children is very nice and patient. The pool seemed very clean even though his instruction was after 6 pm. Everyone seems friendly and helpful .I haven't looked around to see everything they have to offer yet, but so far, I like Petersburg YMCA.

Love the kids swimming classes, shout out to Mr. Pete, Coach Karen along with all the swimming coaches, they’re awesome!! I really appreciate their hard work, motivation and dedication to all the swimming kids, my daughter was a none swimmer to now she had so much confidence in the water and swam in different ways! I love this location but it is packed when I go, even at 5:30am some mornings. I wish they had more of the same equipment which is why I took away a star but the facility isn’t as large as those chain gyms. Some people don’t clean the equipment like they’re supposed to, used paper towels and water bottles being left behind. People need to clean up after themselves!!

Bright, clean, and new facility with friendly staff. The friendliest and most helpful I've been so far is Karla who teaches classes and is also is a floor trainer. I've brought my senior mom many times with me and Karla always stops to help my mom with the equipment and chat with her, making her feel super welcome and at ease. For me, I love that it's oy ever a few folks there during the morning when I work out, that the equipment is clean and new, and that the free weight area is big enough that I feel like I have enough room to strength train without being on top of anyone else. I've been a Y member for 23 years now all over the US and I have to say this is one of my favorite locations. I always look forward to going to workout there, which keeps me motivated.

The staff and membership is extremely friendly, to the point they’ll talk your ears off. 🤣 The environment is clean, and well organized. There’s a lack of weight training equipment if you’re an advanced trainer, but that is easily overcome. My kids enjoy most of the programs, as well. They’ve really improved the member-staff interactions. If you have a bad experience here, it is EXTREMELY rare.

Our family loves our local Y - it's the best!!!! We've been members for years and our kids have really benefitted from the youth sports programs. Markus and Trey are fantastic with the kids and definitely know how to make them feel more comfortable with a sport they haven't done before. Most floor staff are pleasant. I understand being human but the new people entering the building are not the ones who wronged you so please don't take your attitude out on them. Tour not offered during first visit so i had to figure things out on my own. However facilities stay clean and well upkept.

This YMCA is very nice. It doesn't the to be overcrowded past everyone there to play basketball. I have seen enough people to run 4 teams during Freeplay time and it's great! I don't play but I can appreciate a lot if people coming in to play teams sports together. Equipment is in great condition, staff is very helpful and I love taking an extra long shower to loosen up my muscles after. They locker rooms/showers/dressing areas are nice. If you are the parent of young children there's a family locker area with showers as well! If you are low income they had income based programs to make the gym and activities affordable! Overall a great experience for anyone and everyone!
