The front desk staff is the BEST here Kris and Selah are absolutely amazing. Their attention to detail, customers and the machines are unmatched. I've been a regular for almost 2 years and I've never really been disappointed. The machines and locker room are kept clean and the staff is very helpful and friendly (shoutouts to Sam, Ty, and Kris ✌️). The recent addition of the squat racks and free weights is really great to see too. For the price you really can't beat it!

Most goers keep to themselves, which I get it for many that's just another plus, but sometimes I can't help but miss that camaraderie and culture of my old gym where you'd hear "hey bro want a spot?" and "2 more reps, come on!" all the time.

I noticed how clean this PF was as soon as I entered. Smells great, no dust or dirt. All the equipment was detailed. Even the ceiling was clean. Talked with Samantha, who was very involved with, spearheaded in fact, the cleaning regimen. Very similar layout to my home gym of Charlottesville, VA, and not throwing shade at all, but wow, does that place need to tour this place to know what clean really is. 5 out of 5 to this particular gym.

As of recently, I had decided to pursue my health and wellness journey and was touring around various fitness facilities amongst the Richmond area. After doing so, I had chosen to register with Planet Fitness and at that, I am so very happy to have done so! From the warm, welcome desk greetings brought from Kris (the establishment’s manager), as well as the additional representatives surrounding, presenting the top tier cleanliness and hygienic measures in place. Cons:
- Machines are broken for weeks and others are in need of servicing.
- After the new makeover they took away the better of the two Matrix rowing machines (the one which actually counts the reps). Which only leaves one rowing machine in the gym entire gym.
- They need an extra Matrix peck/delt machine as the two they have are both always taken.
- They need a new Matrix leg press machine that actually lets you get a stretch at the bottom of the movement. The one they have hits the bumpers before you ever get a stretch.
- The leg extension machines and leg curl machines need the slack taken out of the cables.
- New layout is weird. Please put all machines/weights on one side and cardio on the other.
- Other Planet locations have Life Fitness rowing and pressing machines which are great but this one doesn't.
Pros:
- The manager is nice and called me to talk about my concerns.
Added some cool new machines like the incline press machine, deadlift machine, standing calf raise, hack squat, glute machine, and barbell stations. The barbell stations are extremely popular so it would be cool if you added another 2 stations.
Advice for management:
- To make room for the machines I mentioned above, you could take out the two seated calf machines, two concept2 rowers (no one really uses them), along with some other cardio equipment that no one uses. You have a lot of ab equipment. Could probably take out one of those machines. Take out some of the yellow equipment since it’s lower in quality compared to the purple equipment.
- Put all cardio on the right side of the gym (closest to the windows) and weights in the front and left of the gym.

I’ve been a member of this gym for several years and have to echo some of the recent reviews. The recent changes have made going to this gym a headache. They basically halved the fixed weight machines in favor of plate loaded equipment that no one uses. Additionally, the atmosphere at the gym has been really bonkers for about the last 6 months or so. There are kids, like small children, under 10 years old wandering around the gym almost every time I’m there. They do not enforce their own policy of having a chaperone for 13 and under. There are couples flirting and making out all over the machines. There’s no staff anywhere to be found that could possibly enforce gym etiquette policies. I’d avoid this location if you’re on the fence.

Overall I like this gym. However, the recent changes are a negative for me. They seem to want to make this location like a golds gym. They brought in more free weight machines at the expense of removing some of the fixed weight machines and treadmills. During evening rush hour, you have to wait for the fixed weight machines and the treadmills are occupied. They have added new bike and stairmaster machines which is nice.

This gym went from bearable to unbearable. When I first joined I thought it was one of the dustiest planet fitnesses I have ever seen and most of the equipment was old. It seemed like it was a dumping ground for old planet fitness, however it was sufficient for getting my workout done.
That one tall young man at the front desk acts like he can't talk and always less than thrilled. Always! I'm like, he's got to be related to somebody in management. Because this is not the place for his personality.

Since the changes with "some" new equipment being brought in and some of the additional equipment being removed, it may be even worse. Now there is always a wait for the weight machines and 9 times out of 10 I leave without completing my workout. It's summertime and the kids are in there in groups, play on the machines one by one. One of the reasons I left the YMCA was because I didn't want workout with kids. I am really trying to adjust but thinking hard about going elsewhere.

Super bummed by the updates to this gym. It seems like all of the equipment I use (cardio and cable resistance machines) was reduced in number to make room for additional free weight options. During busy times, it's already hard to get on everything I'd like, and now there are no longer doubles of all the machines. This is an entry level gym that should cater to people who are using the basic machines. I understand reducing the number of cardio options, because they are not usually full except for the step machines and more of those were added. But reducing the number of cable machines might be a dealbreaker for me. I'm going to see how it goes, but will probably switch to Crunch.

First of all, Kris and company run a great workout facility. Clean and very welcoming. I’m updating this review following recent equipment rearrangement and additions. Love additional plated loaded machines and addition of more dumbbells with more space upfront for those pieces. Nice newer elliptical. Two thumbs up.

However, my experience on Friday post reopening was not good. In addition to loud heavy metal music, the club was very crowded with a lot of young children occupying the equipment including many adults walking or sitting on machines on their phones! It took way too long to workout and the noise level and weigh times was awful. Also, what happened to the express workout room??!! About halfway through my workout I decided to go to the usually quieter room in the back and hurry all along. Nope. Circuit configuration gone. Many of your older members seemed to like this area and it would seem this is no longer an option.

Hopefully, the gym layout and music will get worked out. And the phone users will be spoken to or lose interest in the gym. The kids working out at PF for free seems to be a summer policy, one that I’m not sure all of your members can get onboard with given that there is no supervision or programs for kids. One differentiator of PF is that there are no children. Which is one of the reasons I come vs the Y where much of my membership went to kids programs and summers were always a challenge. It would seem to be a liability issue given that the kids seem to like climbing on the equipment, which is designed for adults not minors. All for getting the kids involved in fitness early just not at the gym where I signed up to get in shape and reduce stress. Thank you for your consideration.

Great new equipment with the plate loaded stuff....but they got rid of a lot of machines to only have 1 of each now (i.e leg curl, leg extension, leg press, seated row, lat pulldown, adductor/adductor machines, etc ) It was definitely very useful to have 2 of each, as to not have to wait for a machine to be free.

I usually enjoy coming to this gym, but today left a bad impression. When I walked in, I greeted the two girls at the front desk with a polite “hello.” They had just been warm and friendly with the couple in front of me—smiling, chatting, very welcoming. But when it was my turn, they both just stared at me with cold expressions. No smile, no reply, just attitude. It honestly made me feel unwelcome and singled out for no reason. Planet Fitness promotes a “Judgment Free Zone,” but that wasn’t my experience today.

I recommend this gym. I've been going for three years and have positive experiences. It's clean. Employees are friendly. The equipment and space suit my needs, and I don't have to wait to use most things (I do usually go during the middle of the day). There are the usual few annoying members who don't put their weights back or have phone conversations but for the most part everyone follows the rules and is respectful. There are a wide variety of ages, fitness levels, etc that go here and so you will probably fit it just fine :) Can't beat the price for what it offers.
Reasons you *wouldn't* like it at Planet Fitness: 1. You're an advanced weightlifter who needs equipment like a freestanding squat rack for instance. PF just has Smith machines and recently added a hack squat machine. 2. You're looking for support and community. Most members here are polite but don't interact much.

However last few month it get very loud and hard to focus and relax. The elderly gentleman is coming with other group of people to train them and he is super loud.

I re-rate it again because (I’ve been a member of this gym for a while, and overall, my experience has been positive. However, I want to address an issue regarding Kris. Her behavior is far from professional and has been quite bothersome. Her attitude and way of handling members create an uncomfortable atmosphere, which is disappointing.

As a former gym owner for 12 years with another gym brand, I can honestly say it's hard to compete with Planet Fitness. Excellent gym equipment choices with Matrix, life fitness, Precor, and many others. It just doesn't get any better. Great layout, super clean, friendly staff. The extra amenities are a cherry on top. I have the black unlimited card so that I can access all the clubs. If these were my clubs I would charge $90 per month and it would be worth it. Bravo 👏

Once you sign up, you can only cancel your membership if you either come into the location, or send in a physical letter. There is no option to cancel your membership online, so if you end up moving away and forget to cancel, or end up injured and unable to come in to cancel it in person, it needlessly makes the process take longer and more effort

I was able to park my semi in the rear of the shopping center away from customers. Was welcomed by staff. This location is quite spacious and comfortable. I had a great workout, and the local people are nice.

I was at this gym right now and i recently moved here from maryland even though i got membership premium one that i can use all over the U.S and i have used the same membership in most of the states. The employee name was JULES she disrespected me looks like she didn’t wanna help at all, was super confused i showed her my email that I’m a member and everything that i pay here. I am there member from past 7 years and this is how they treated their customer well-done.

Just to clarify: this isn't a review of Planet Fitness compared to other gyms, but against other PFs.
This is the 5th PF ive been to and I gotta say it's one of the better ones. A lot of times you'll see equipment being misused by...casual gym folks. This typically leads to equipment breaking more frequently. If the staff isn't on top of getting it repaired, you will end up seeing a very annoying amount of gym equipment being out of service for months at a time.
Not at this one. This team seems to be on top of their game. Very impressive.

Still has massage chairs that you need tokens to use; old hydro massage beds and not updated hydro massage chairs; the light to change locations in 30 min Workout room cannot be seen when you are on several machines; people not doing 30 min workout use the machines making it difficult to follow circuit.

I’ve been going here since they opened. The gym for the most part, is clean and usually not crowded. They have plenty of equipment for most needs. The reason for the 3 stars is the quality has consistently gone down since opening. Staff used to be very friendly and welcoming, now just occasionally acknowledging customers. There used to be staff always cleaning the equipment, replacing paper towels, and emptying trash. Now I see no cleaning, consistently find empty paper towels dispensers, and it’s not abnormal to see trash cans full. Still worth $10 a month, but not more.
