8 years I've been going to this gym. Great gym and great staff. The shower area is a completely different story. Rarely do I get a hot shower...it's either tepid or cold. The shower area has no heat, so it's always cold, in addition to your cold shower. This problem has been ongoing for 8 years. Message to the owner: bigger water heater or adjust the existing one. I've been to at least 10 other PLanet Fitnesses when I travel for work...ALL of them have hot showers but not the one in Harrisonburg. Time to look for another gym. When the owners don't give a damn about the shower area or are just total cheap skates who either won't buy a larger water heater or adjust the existing one to the bare minimum it's time to move on. Check out the pitiful response they gave me below from my original post 3 years ago.

All the machines are built for tall people. (I'm 5'2)
There's a lot of equipment I can't use properly cause I can't reach or sit properly. Also a lot of their equipment is out of service and/or missing pieces/handle grips.... Or their bikes computer isn't reading properly......

This is the best Planet Fitness I have used, mainly because it's in a huge space. Machines are spread out, other than aerobic ones. My only complaint is that it usually takes more than 6 months for a machine to be fixed. There is ample parking, though not necessarily in front of the building.

Excellent staff, but questionable parking lot. Present and former staff have always been attentive and friendly. Every surface and piece of equipment is always maintained and cared for.
I've been licensed for a decade, and I've had to file 3 hit-and-run claims/ uninsured motorist- claims because of inattentive and careless drivers (the only claims I've ever had to file with auto insurance).
Maybe suggesting better lighting at night to the property owner or a sign reminding people not to overdo the pre-workout may help.. 5 stars because PF, understandably, does not have a duty or obligation to circumstances outside their property.

Wanted to sign up for the black membership so I could use all the location and told the person at the desk that. Then asked to pay for a year In advance and was told that was fine. When I went to use the gym in Richmond I was told I had to pay for the day because the black membership couldn’t be pre pay. I called to ask what could be done and even though they checked and saw the person who signed me up was new. The General manager of the Harrisonburg branch said it was on me and didn’t even try to offer a solution. I’ll never use planet fitness again. Planet fitness is the dollar tree of gyms and run by below average people.

I can’t say enough good things about Planet Fitness and their incredible staff. During a recent snowy day, the team went above and beyond to ensure the gym was safe and welcoming for everyone.

When I arrived, I noticed how clean everything was despite all the snow and salt being tracked in. The staff were actively mopping up any wet spots on the floor and wiping down equipment to make sure it stayed spotless. One employee even greeted me with a smile and immediately addressed a wet area near the entrance, ensuring no one slipped.

They were also proactive about cleaning up the salt residue near the lockers and in the hallway. It’s clear the staff genuinely care about providing a clean and comfortable environment for their members.

It's a shame when multiple employees stand around on cell phones instead of cleaning and I don't mean replacing towels n a little dusting on the machines. There are always tons of dust balls and it's gross when your doing floor exercises and don't want to get off your matt because how gross the floor is. And when the sun shines in the windows, my God it's even worse u see it all. Go back to the covid days when employees actually cleaned it's not like the place is short staffed.

Joined back in October of last year, a coworker convinced me to join saying they had been going for months and wanted a gym buddy so I decided to join expecting to go with them and the plan of going after work. They told me I could cancel anytime

My coworker only went once and I ended up having to leave my job in late November , the nearest gym to my home is 45 minutes away and of course driving that far to go to a gym is ridiculous.

I decided to cancel because im not using it ,I was informed it is $50 some bucks to cancel which I don't have, I don't even have the $25 to pay the membership because I'm not working but they didn't care.

Here I am now paid $275 for something I only used once , as soon as September comes I'm canceling. It must be nice just to receive a free $350 because they also charge some stupid annual fee right after you sign up.

I've held a Black Card membership with Planet Fitness for over 5 years, mostly for the tanning beds. Although the staff is friendly and welcoming, I am so disappointed this year. Over half of the beds do not work and those that do aren't working properly. There are bulbs missing, fans not working, and only 2 lay down beds available ( one of those being the bed with hot air coming out of the fans). I don't know if I will continue my membership much longer.

BEWARE don’t not visit this Planet Fitness. There’s no Locker room to change clothes and the bathroom and shower is outside in a mobile trailer and it’s disgusting. Worst PF I’ve ever visited in my life.

Had family come in town to visit, my nephew wanted to go with me to the gym, I told him at 12 years old he could not work out, and that he could sit and play his games while I worked out. A lot of machines are either broken or missing pieces such as the hand grips missing. It is planet fitness do not expect much as well as the locker rooms always having a stall out of out of order. Go to valley fitness or elsewhere they even allow a dog on the treadmill and management is very uncaring to not only there staff and gym-goers but seemingly not caring about the gym itself. Save your time and go elsewhere

Customer service could use some improvement. I hardly ever come to this planet fitness and was unaware that I couldn’t use a day guest pass. I tried to scan in and they told me I couldn’t, which is fine, but then very abruptly told me it was $20 for a day pass (which is pretty insane). ACAC is a $90+ a month fitness facility and they only charge $12 for a day pass. When I asked if there were any other options, the young lady working and the assistant manager said you can get a membership, but didn’t mention what that costs. There wasn’t much empathy in their response of willingness to try to work with me. It felt very - take it or leave it. The $20 is one thing, but the delivery and communication around that whole thing was very poor.

Super clean gym. Solid gym music. Staff have been welcoming. Only complaint is the app could be misleading when it comes to the crowd meter. There have been some incidents when the app would show 2 bars and the gym would be a lot busier than shown on the crowd meter. (Most likely an app issue and not a gym issue) I would also suggest single leg squat rollers to help mitigate congestion around the bench/dumbbell area.

People are always drinking from the fountain even though is COVID times, please block or cancel the fountains people is not respectful of the pandemic rules, only keep the refilling water bottles, is gross and nasty have to refill your water bottle and just and inch close to have the fountain from were people is drinking. There are no always paper towel to clean the machines and people don't clean after themselves, there is staffing only at the front desk, there is more people coming in the mornings and less people cleaning or making sure is safe to come to workout here, at least at night I always see staffing being more conscious and walking around making sure everything is alright. I send an email before and they only answered me to talk to the people here instead, I canceled my subscription before for similar issues and seems like I'm going to cancel it again, this gym is convenient for the 24 hrs availability that others gym in Harrisonburg don't have , but really disaponts have to cancel and look for another options for details that can be fix having at least one staffing member just walking around to make sure everything is clean, instead of having 2 or 3 staffing members just standing and talking in the front desk. There is really a lot of people that prefeer to pay the extra dollars for details like this.

Planet fitness has more than enough equipment to help you reach your fitness goals. the hospitable team members are available to answer any questions you may have regarding PF. I tried this big machine for enhancement and it has no harmful UV rays, however the sign advises you to wear eye protection. I was afraid to step inside at first until the team member mentioned"you don't have to close the door(lol) . I didn't think the lights would come on had I not shut the door. Anywho, the door does not seal which makes sense and you can stop at any time. It's a 12 minute session and the PF team members suggest for best results, to use the UV machine 3 x a week. PF has tanning beds, massage chairs, and the cool full body water massage bed; high or low pressure. I prefer high pressure(hehehe) with all this my only issue, is the ladies showers are never cleaned properly, the floors are always dirty and hair is always everywhere. I take my clorox clean up wipes to clean the handle, shower head and shelf under mirror where I place my personal products for grooming. I also clean the mirror. Outside of that, I love PF!!!

Every time I come in the staff smiles and gives a friendly greeting. They are very attentive and are quick to help out in any inquiries or needs.

Harrisonburg PF is super clean and the staff are really friendly! It's been cool coming to this gym and starting to see regulars! ☺️ I was a member of a private gym before, so this was a bit of a change for me, but I'm starting to enjoy it more and more!

Even though there aren't any free weight machines, you can still get in a solid workout with the equipment provided. There's also tons of room for you to take dumbbells off to the side to do your own workout. You can't beat the cost!

It's also really cool to watch people of all ages and all fitness levels come here to move their bodies and feel better about themselves. I love that everyone's welcome to come as they are!
