This planet fitness is so small and so stinky that I had to go to the Manassas one because I can’t even go in the bathroom without it smelling like God knows what and the rest of the gym just smells like a sweaty stinky laundry mat. They never have any paper towels, restocked everything about this gym is just dirty. I can’t.

I am quite disappointed with the recent promotion that "High School kids are free." Very little equipment is available because this facility doesn't have much of it to start with. The children scarcely exercise at all…. appears less like a gym and more like a place to hang out.

It doesn’t seem like the staff cleans at all. Paper towel dispensers are always out on the gym floor. Toilets have had the same fecal stains for over a week now, trash on the bathroom floors, showers look gross. For how much money this gym brings from customers, you would think cleanliness would be held to a higher standard.

Edit: Why does a paying customer have to let the manager know of their store being dirty? Isn’t the whole point of having a manager, kind of to manage the building? Accountability doesn’t exist anymore.

The worst maintained Planet Fitness I’ve been to in the country. Showers without knobs, cold water, or without water pressure. loose hooks, etc.

It’s clear that whoever runs this location doesn’t care.

And, they’ve had many negative reviews over the last year.

Update: Planet Fitness responded by telling me to inform the owners.

This review was exactly that.

You have been informed from this review that this location is seriously mismanaged.

Though this gym is brand new and generally awesome, I’ve been getting the feeling lately that maintenance is not priority. I alerted staff of water damaged ceiling tiles at the entrance of one of the tanning booths a few months ago and nothing has been done. Not great for a person with a mold allergy. Lastly, I had a stalking incident at this gym over the summer, to the point where the police got involved and the man’s identity was known. He is still a member of the gym.

It’s not unreasonable to expect a place to work out that isn’t potentially dangerous to health or physical safety. I’ve deducted two stars, and will be happy to add them back as the issues are addressed.

Edit:
It seems that the water-damaged ceiling tile has now been spray-painted white. Pic attached for reference. I feel like the staff either really don’t care or have no comprehension of how an allergy works. The black card area now smells strongly of mildew and chemicals. When a ceiling tile is water-damaged, the source of the leak should be remedied, then the surrounding area cleaned, and then the affected tiles replaced. Removing a star for obvious reasons. Really hoping I can add 2 stars back at some point!

I recently purchased a membership at Planet Fitness in Haymarket to support my wife’s health journey following her medical diagnosis. Since she was unfamiliar with the machines, I visited the gym with her to help her understand how to use them properly.

When I asked for a complimentary 10-minute entry just to walk her through the equipment, I was told that no complimentary access was allowed, and I would have to pay a $20 day pass fee—even though I wasn’t there to work out, just to assist my wife. I then asked if a staff member could show her how to use the machines, but they stated they don’t have trainers available. When the manager arrived, I reiterated my request, but she still refused to allow me in for even a brief period. Instead, she offered to walk my wife through “some” of the machines but was unable to help her with everything.

This type of experience is frustrating and disappointing. A gym that markets itself as a “judgment-free zone” should be more accommodating, especially when a paying member needs help. Not allowing a spouse or support person a few minutes to assist—especially when the gym lacks trainers—feels like an unnecessary barrier rather than a welcoming fitness environment.

For anyone considering this gym, be aware that customer support and flexibility are lacking. If you’re new to working out and need guidance, you may not get the help you need here. I wouldn’t recommend this location, especially for individuals who require assistance in navigating the equipment.

This planet gets two starts from me simply due to the saving grace of the young man in the front whose name I didn’t catch. Taller gentleman with curly hair, you go kid. Doing an amazing job. And the other lady that I’ve seen work with you with black hair. Stellar, you two are amazing. One of my minimal concerns is that I wish for a brand new gym, there wouldn’t be so much downed equipment.

Now where my real issue lies is with the two other women who work in this establishment. A younger woman of some sort of western decent (constantly mean mugging us and has absolutely no idea how to handle customer service issues. Must’ve been trained by the manager I’m about to tell you about.) and a lady with glasses who manages the gym. First and foremost if you are going to have someone manage a gym, make sure they look capable of maintaining a gym membership because this woman doesn’t move. She sits the whole time and the only time she gets up is to chase down my Fiance (who happened to arrive a few minutes before I did for our planned nightly workout because I was stuck in traffic leaving school) so she went ahead to start her workout. She uses my guest pass and I was very soon to follow. When I approached the service desk, was not greeted, however more like barked at that “the next time you do that with the bar codes, your membership will be cancelled” I’m sorry, where was the de escalation or customer service attitude you guys are raving on about? No judgment zone, but my girl can’t get started on her workout 10 minutes before me when I was already planning to be there? Yeah no thank you, we are trying to get in shape and start a new healthy year in light of my mothers recent passing. We looked to planet fitness for comfort and a place to get away from the realities of the world. I am very very disappointed and frustrated with the way things were handled yesterday. I have indeed cancelled my membership and plan to proceed with my journey at another gym that I feel comfortable giving my money to. Get off your phones and learn some customer service, except for the first two I mentioned, you other two ladies need to figure it out.

Come here occasionally to visit family and this PF is new since the last time I came here, so I had to try it out. I was decently impressed - the machines are new (to be expected for a new location), the locker rooms/restrooms are clean (for now), and not terribly busy during daytime hours, even around 6p (a common gym rush-hour time) on a random Wednesday. I also think that this PF location’s overall space isn’t too cramped, but has potential to feel more cramped if/when it becomes more crowded, considering that the location they built in used to be half of a Food Lion grocery store, and they now share the space with a new Aldi next door. I would guess that the crowding will eventually start as Haymarket expands, as right now it seems like this location is helping pull some traffic away from the Manassas location, which is obviously good for now pending a population explosion in Haymarket and Gainesville, but who knows

I was a bit hesitant after reading the reviews, but I'm glad I took a chance and visited this PF location. I normally go to a larger PF in Alexandria, but it doesn't have all the machines that this place does. Despite being smaller, this location has all the necessary equipment. Additionally, the women's bathrooms are very clean with great water pressure. I will come back when I am working in this area.

No treadmill works. None!!! Tried them all and staff seemed disinterested in the issue. Reported the issue to her and she returned back to gossiping with fellow staff. This gym is not it. Will not return

This could be a better location but they are dropping the ball here. Several things make me say this. First the front desk staff isn't very accommodating or motivated to do the things I've seen the staff at other locations doing. They literally just sit there on their phones. There is a very distinct odor permeating from the men's restroom/locker room area that has persisted for a while now and it appears no one is interested in addressing it. Multiple times the paper towel dispensers out on the floor are empty so you can't wipe down equipment after use. Equipment is sometimes dirty. The treadmills are not calibrated correctly either. I can't walk 5.2 mph with little effort. There are 18 screens but only three options for viewing meaning there are three different programs on six monitor's each. Not sure why, maybe there is a good reason? If the folks that own and manage this location would like to see how it's done I suggest they take a field trip up to Warrenton. I've been to a few locations across the country and haven't found a better one in terms of space usage and staff friendliness and work ethic. Two stars only because of it's convenient location.

I am writing this one star review for the haymarket location that would otherwise be a five star review due to their lack of a physical trainer. I am just starting to get into exercising so I am still pretty inexperienced and it would be much better if I could learn from an expert on site. I went on the 2nd of June and asked if I could talk with their physical trainer to meet my goals but the woman behind the was supremely unhelpful in this endeavor her name was Lydia and she was just generally dismissive and rude. I had driven 20 minutes to go there so I decided to enter anyways and learn from a youtube video. I want big arms so I tried to do "Hammer Curls" and I picked up a pretty heavy weight and started to do it but I think It was wrong because my wrist really hurt, so I just dropped the weight and it hit my big toe. It really hurt a lot and I think this experience would have been avoided if there was just a physical trainer there to help me do it right.

While this facility is newer, I was surprised at how much of the equipment already had issues. In addition to that, this gym is sooo cramped and close together compared to other Planet Fitness locations.
Don't really know about the staff, as nobody spoke to me...even though they were behind the desk when I checked in.
Everything is still relatively clean, although I did not check out the restrooms or locker room.

This is my second time coming to the gym. On both occasions, employees did not know how to sign me up for a membership and were very confused. Today I worked with Lydia, who was very rude and not very knowledgeable about membership procedures. Maybe it’s her first time holding a job, so I do wish her a successful career, and hopefully management can get these employees some better training.

I really like the gym. It’s close to my home which I love. It is a smaller planet fitness but it has all the machines I use. It’s clean and the front desk staff are friendly. The only thing I wish it had was exercise classes.

I joined this gym before they opened. It took longer than expected for this to happen, and this wasn't a huge deal because I used other locations. When the Haymarket facility opened I was excited to try it. Front desk person was not at all helpful, much less welcoming. This location has less equipment and is smaller than the locations I used waiting for them to open. I will switch my home gym to one of the more welcoming and friendly Planet Fitness facilities.

The one issue I’d take a half a star off for is that my traditional padlock doesn’t fit on this location’s angled lock holders. Other location lockers are more universal. But they have really useful small lockers right by the front desk that you can program yourself. I’ll just buy myself a different lock to use the locker room.

I joined yesterday and the entire process was quite easy, they directed me to use their online link. I was enrolled in minutes and able to use right away. They have plenty of equipments. Locker room appears clean. Overall good neighborhood gym!
