I had been happily going to this gym for a couple months. Today I went in and as soon as I stepped to the door Lisa looked at me up and down with a disgusted face and told me that I couldn't enter the gym in my five finger vibram shoes (some of us like having developed for muscles and no bunions) I turned to walk away and frustration because I knew when she gave me the dirty look that she was going to be a problem. I later called to ask to speak with the manager or whoever owns the franchise and Lisa was being very difficult over the phone and refused to transfer me.

I love coming here. Everyone who works here is always so friendly and welcoming and Lisa in particular has been extremely great. She's been exceptionally helpful, very customer service oriented, and she makes it a point to go above and beyond to ensure that members have a positive experience. The environment itself is great and feels judgment free, there are so many machines and different equipment to use, to really focus on whole body wellness - there's something for everyone. I also love the black card perks - the hydro massage and wellness pod are my after workout musts for relaxation and self-care. This is by far my favorite gym.

I was lied to! I did the dollar sign up for the black card membership plus a few dollar in fees. I was explained that the annual fee and membership fee would be taken out not the next month but the month after. A week after starting I started getting messages that the payment was declined for my membership fee. I called and was told it was a miscommunication and that they would cover the first fee but the fact of the matter is I was lied to! Not happy!

One of the nice things about PF is the standardization across all of the facilities - I always know what to expect and where my equipment will be and I am never disappointed. It is clean, well looked after, staff is friendly, things are well stocked. The only thing that prevents five stars is the air circulation - while they have the two large fans over the cardio area, there are none over the abs/stretching area or the free weight/machine weights areas and they can be suffocatingly hot, especially in this heat wave. I think this location is new - so additions may be incoming. But as a PF gym, it meets all expectations.

I’ve been strength training at Planet Fitness for the last 4.5 months. I was initially surprised that I could pay just $15-$20/month for such a clean, well maintained gym! Everyone seems so happy there: Jeffrey at the front desk greets me with a smile every morning, and not only that, he introduces me to others who passing by the front desk and calls me part of the family :) I love that they emphasize a judgment-free zone. I never have to wait for any machines (except the cable cross over, which is very popular!). I’m 58 and weighed 150 lbs 4.5 months ago, but have lost 10 lbs and 6% body fat from working out here. Most importantly, I’m fitting into all the size 6 clothes in my closet again! There is plenty of cardio equipment, dumbbells, barbells, etc. I really like the people I meet here, and it’s fun working out here!

I have been Black Card member since August 2024. This gym is kept very clean, and has 2 of most machines and plenty of different machines, dumbells, smith machines and plate loaded machines for a full workout. The great people who work there are very cool, and keep that place in good shape. Lisa, Billy, Jacob and Jamal are always there when I go and put a lot into keeping the place in good shape.

Only issue and one that is minor is that they removed 2 of the 4 hydromassage beds they originally had.

To be fair, the district manager, Sarah, has reached out to my inquiry and is in discussions with corporate to possibly resolve this. My understanding is they are getting a Cryotherapy bed. Tried this at one of the other PF locations and this will be a more than perfect resolution.

I recently had the great opportunity to visit this Planet Fitness facility while on the road as a professional truck driver, and I must say, it was an exceptional experience. From the moment I walked in, I was impressed by the cleanliness of the facility. Everything was spotless, which immediately made me feel comfortable and ready to work out 🏋🏾‍♂️.

The professionalism of the staff truly stood out. I want to give a special shoutout to Lisa, who was outstanding in her assistance. Her friendliness and dedication to customer service made my visit even more enjoyable. As a Black Card member, I was eager to try out the spa chair for the first time. Lisa was incredibly patient and kind, walking me through the various options and ensuring I felt comfortable using the equipment.

I joined planet fitness when it opened as a black card member and the gym was shown with 2 massage chairs, 4 hydro beds and numerous tanning beds. This week they have removed 2 of the hydro beds and 2 of the tanning beds and do not plan to replace them. This is misrepresentation at its finest, not to mention bad business!! The hydro beds were one of the main reasons I joined! The location is not even convenient to my home or work but it was worth it due to all of the amenities it offered and now you remove 1/2 of what you sold me in the black card membership and do not even give your customers a heads up your doing it? Well planet fitness, your patrons are clearly not your first concern and further more you left your poor staff with the job of telling us and catching all of the pissed off customers responses!! THIS was a very bad move and I plan on going all the way to the top with this bc it’s misrepresentation, false advertising and just plain out poor judgement and business!! The slogan “Judgment Free Zone” must not apply here. I have experienced multiple members commenting on my workouts, my physical appearance (inside and outside the locker room at that), and gotten to the point where other members have talked poorly about what I am doing in the moment. Men around here are creepy and everyone is allowed to slam weights as they please without any sort of accountability despite it being clearly stated in the agreement. It also has a pretty serious lack of cleanliness at that.

Been to a few different Planet Fitness. I wish they would keep the 30 min circuit room for those actually doing circuit vs people just in there using the equipment. It makes it hard for those of us who really want to circuit train. It seems to happen at most of them.

**update** I had them at 4 stars. But the customer service has gone downhill in evenings. Staff to busy chatting with each other and on phone to give good customer service. Can't even get a "I will be with you in a second" out of them.

PLANET FITNESS IN MECHANICSVILLE. ⚠️⚠️❗️❗️

They have charged me $333.92 since May and my memebership is only supposed to be $24.99 a month. So check you acct if your a member already. Oh and FYI you have to go in to the gym to cancel, you can not cancel the same way most people join...which is online.

So I went into the gym on July 10th to finally cancel since I have been having health issues and unable to go in to cancel and they would NOT let me cancel any other way. BTW, this was after my follow up from surgery the day before. The young guy behind the counter was really pleasant and helpful. Really enjoyed my interaction with him and he deserves a raise or a better place of employment.

Well,
Since May 13th I have been charged over $300 of which I have only had July refunded and they still owe me $308.93 and are refusing to refund me. I should have only been charged 49.98 and I was charged $333.94 and they have only refunded me $24.99.

I emailed the manager and he said he would take care of it. About 10 days later I got a refund for $24.99. So, I emailed him again since apparently that is the only way to get in touch with him and the district manager. He then explained they only refund 2 months back. So I told him that two months back was the $333.94 they owed me back and not just $24.99 which was only for one month not two. So he gave me the district managers name and email. I emailed her and didn't get a response for several days so sent a follow up email to which she basically replied and said that she had looked at my acct and all they owed me was $24.99, but funny thing is I have the bank statements to prove otherwise. Needless to say she was very unprofessional in her email and she still has not responded to my return email that I tried to re-explain to her that they have over charged me.

So just wanted to let others know they are stealing money from people. Bad thing is they know it and refuse to refund their mistakes!!

Do not join here if you want to use a good customer oriented based gym. I will say AM Fam was a lot better experience when i was there and their customer service was impeccable!! Just drive that extra 5 mins and pay that extra per month. It is alot more worth it, you always get what you pay for and it shows with planet fitness compared to American Family.

Staff is good and is very friendly. PF has two of almost all of their machines, so there is almost no waiting. They have a good assortment of dumbells, bars and plates. I highly recommend them.

Generally pleased with everything about this location as it seems to be well managed. Knowledgeable and friendly staff, clean overall and the equipment is in very good shape. But. There is currently a promotion allowing teens 15-19 to work out free. NO problem teens joining the rest of the membership if they are trying to achieve their fitness goals. But the gym ends up being just another location for these young people to meet their social and entertainment goals. Not all of them, but the majority.
Groups of 2-3-4 tying up multiple machines for 30 minutes while taking selfies and laughing as they share (TikTok?) videos and make video calls. Have seen this multiple times just this week.
Someone suggested that signage be posted. C'mon, that will accomplish nothing. The PAYING membership should not have to deal with this. What is needed is a "hall monitor" which should be provided by management. Immediately.

Great assortment of exercise equipment, very spacious so you're not on top of anyone, nice locker rooms with changing areas and showers. The black card membership is completely worth it, includes shiatsu massage chairs, hydro massage, tanning beds and wellness pod that features soothing sites, sounds and smells. Staff is usually very attentive and friendly.

I have been going to PF Mechanicsville for a little over a year now. It has become a part of my morning routine several days a week. Jeffrey and Lisa that work the desk in the morning are like a second family and everyone is always courteous of others in the gym.

The facility itself is kept clean, has lots of different weight and cardio options, and targeted weight rooms for those wanting a quick 30-minute workout or more intense functional training. I recently had the displeasure of visiting the Planet Fitness in Mechanicsville and was highly disappointed with my experience. The customer service provided by the young blonde haired girl at the front desk was absolutely abysmal. She seemed to be more interested in flirting at the front desk than doing her job. She was unhelpful, and seemed completely disinterested in assisting me with any of my questions, while also seemed to pawn most work on Zac .

To make matters worse, none of the paper towel dispensers were filled in the gym. This may seem like a minor inconvenience, but it is a basic necessity for gym-goers to clean their equipment after use. The lack of cleanliness and attention to detail at this location is truly appalling.

Overall, I would not recommend this Planet Fitness to anyone looking for a positive and welcoming gym environment. The unprofessional staff and lack of basic amenities make it a subpar fitness facility. Save yourself the trouble and find another location to use.

Jamal that works overnight is awesome. He is friendly and makes me feel safe working out and being inside a gym in the middle of the night. Jamal and Alex were trying to stay in the front while cleaning the machines. They literally moved the treadmills to clean underneath and around. The cleanest gym if ever seen. And Jamal and Alex were extremely nice. I liked them so much and they were so kind it was the reason I signed up. I hope planet fitness knows it's the staff that make or break the gym. I hope they stick around so I can enjoy my workouts and spa sessions. They are the reason for this five star review.

it's been 2 months since I joined Planet Fitness. And my experience with their customer service has been absolutely awful. Every time you walk into the gym, staffs would either ignore or choose to not greet you. Just another day, I saw two young ladies at the front desk busy chatting awhile three customers standing in the line waiting to get sign in. I've seen a lot of bad customer services and this is definitely one of them. I don't think the upper management cares about how staffs are treating the customers. I joined this gym due to a part of my company's reimbursement plans, but It has been very disappointing. I will inform the HR about this as well.

This club is amazing!! All the employees are super sweet and very friendly!! But the assistant manager Rae is outstanding!! She is always has a warm welcoming smile when she greets you !!! If you’re looking for a great gym to work out Planet Fitness in Mechanicsville is the place to go !!!
