Drew was recommended to us for my kids strength and conditioning coach. Great environment. He introduced my kids to weightlifting safely. Was so so very PLEASES and IMPRESSED with his knowledge base on the specific sports that we are involved in, especially our nutrition questions. Which is always a concern as the young athletes are still growing. He has even recognized an injury that my son had that I didn’t even realize. He worked on strengthening it to prevent further injury from now on! He is seriously top notch and pays attention to detail! Ive seen so much growth and confidence in my kids. He adapts your training to what is needed whether a young athlete or an adult looking for weight management (like me). He’s made a plan for me also to help me in my running and dancing.
Looking forward to our continued journey. So blessed to be apart of Porrada Barbell.

2 years ago I made the decision to pull myself out of whatever FUNK I was in and set a goal to do a bodybuilding competition. I was introduced to Drew through a mutual friend and we set out on my little journey to take back some control in my life. While we had zero expectations of me actually placing (literally just happy to be there 😂), I took the overall wellness title, and a couple more shows later Drew’s coaching got me into the IFBB PRO PEAGUE 😱 …all as a lifetime natural athlete!!

I am an all natural bodybuilding athlete and have been consistently for the past 10 years and been working out in general for over 20 years. I’ve worked with several trainers/coaches in my day but no one compares to Andrews coaching ability and style. I’ve been working with Andrew for about 5 months now and this is THE best program I’ve ever been on. This guy knows his stuff.. looking for great strength and conditioning, no matter the age, Andrew Del Carmen is the one to get you right, with proper techniques in lifting to avoid injury, try a session, he'll make sure you're comfortable in whatever you're trying to achieve. He was a former competitor and champion in strongman and body building competitions. Also a high rank Jiu-jitsu instructor and student amongst the most skilled fighters in the Hampton Roads, you will not be disappointed.

Drew is great! I came to Drew to get back into shape and just achieve a better lever of daily fitness. I have seen significant improvements in my strength and overall performance. He is great about listening to any issues you may be working through and working to fix those issues and rehab them. I have had consistent neck issues for the last 5-6 years. Since starting with him, I have virtually no pain in my neck. I can’t recommend him enough.

There are many good things to say about Porrada Barbell, but for me, the key difference is the measurable progress that becomes evident with each passing month. The training is designed to be both physically and mentally challenging, and the word 'quit' doesn’t exist here. Unlike mainstream gyms, Porrada is a community of like-minded individuals fully committed to advancing their fitness goals. Porrada has consistently exceeded the expectations of me and my family, as shown by our significant improvements in strength, speed, agility, and mental toughness. My 7 year old takes the youth strength and conditioning classes and loves it!!! We saw immediate improvement in his sparring in both his power and stamina. As someone who never lifted weights until his 30s, I needed more in-person input than simply watching YouTube clips, reading a Mark Rippetoe book, or even online coaching. Especially given I wanted to focus on compound exercises using a barbell (squat, deadlift, press, etc.). The mechanisms of these exercises look simple, but that doesn't mean they are easy. And outcomes of improper forms or mistakes can be more critical when you are no longer in your 10s and 20s.
That's how I came upon Drew at Porrada Barbell. While researching barbell courses and personal trainers in the Virginia Beach area, I found Porrada Barbell to be the best choice for what I was looking for.
After training with Drew regularly, I got answers to questions and challenges of barbell exercises I faced in the past. I had "aha" moments while lifting weights that would've taken forever if it was just by myself.
There are many insights I would've missed if I just watched YouTube videos or took a group class. Of course, this option cost more as this was 1-on-1 personal training. But that was a premium I was willing to pay to build a foundation for better fitness, especially after never lifting weights in my 10s and 20s.
Speaking of pricing, I find Porrada Barbell to be still the best option for PTs given it's an independent business with its own gym. I found Drew's pricing to be more reasonable than other PT options in the area.
So to conclude, I definitely recommend Porrada Barbell, especially if you are like me who is thinking of lifting a barbell but not sure where to start, or even worried that you're too old to start. You may just need some helpful personal touch, and are willing to pay time and effort (and a bit of $).

Porrada Barbell sets an atmosphere that allows you to develop. It is inviting, comfortable and motivational. Trainers are patient and works with you where you are physically. I’ve been training with Drew for a little over a year. I started off with wanting to lose weight, but when I picked up my first heavy barbell I fell in love with weight lifting. Everyday I get stronger and stronger. I love the atmosphere of Porrada Barbell. I would highly recommend anyone to check them out. When you come in to this gym, you have a sense of intensity that is matched by the professional training that you are given by all the trainers! Andrew, Olivia, Tanya will not let you fail! This is one of the best gyms in the 757! When you leave after your session you feel the like you have to come back! They understand your needs and also help you with any nagging previous injuries. I feel myself getting stronger every session!! Drew is a very patient trainer. He was very attentive to a preexisting injury that I was suffering from. In fact, his sessions strengthen my lower back due to him being meticulous but at the same time pushing me to my limits. They constantly clean and sanitize the equipment. I highly recommend this gym!
