The worst Pilates class I’ve taken, ever. It was taught by Cary, the owner. This is the first Pilates class I’ve been to where the instructor didn’t demonstrate any of the movements herself. She would tell us to do a move, and then say “do 10-12 of these” without counting us off. The result was that the class would only do 4 really slow counts of the movement. The floors and reformers here were dirty and had dog hair everywhere. The instructor was also rude and got irritated when I called for directions (the studio is deeply buried in a giant apartment complex, with no directions posed online). Never coming back here! Definitely not a class for 20 something women looking for a good workout.

Great for any level! I really appreciate when Andrea comes over and helps with your form, makes all the difference. Very clean and has a nice courtyard view with the occasional squirrel walking arounf

Update 2024: five years in and still feel the same! Praxi Pilates is a fun, challenging workout that I love, supports a strong body, and complementary cross-training for my other athletic hobbies (running, swimming). I go to Praxi instead of other pilates studios because I feel like the workout changes to keep me challenged and interested, the instructors care and modify exercises for all levels (modify down and up!), and I really enjoy the community that Praxi offers.

I have been following the owner Carey as an instructor to the different places she has been at for the last several years so I am so happy she has her own studio now. She is one of the best instructors I have worked out with -- she puts a lot of thought and planning into creating a challenging balanced class with a pilates-foundation for all of the exercises. She always is mixing things up, coming up with new moves, or finding a way to challenge you with some of the classics. The new studio is beautiful, bright, clean, modern, and a true pilates playground with a ton of space for reformer, mat, TRX, and chair workouts with affordable pricing. Always easy street parking and as a plus it's easy to get to and close to my home!

I can't say enough good things about Praxi Pilates. The instructors are all excellent. They make sure to check with everyone about any injuries before class starts and provide adjustments for those who do. They also give you a range of options for spring choices depending on your fitness level. The classes include a balanced assortment of exercises for all the different muscle groups. I used to have neck and back problems, mostly from sitting at a desk all day (like most folks), but not since I started doing pilates at Praxi. Lastly, the class environment is very inclusive and friendly. I highly recommend it!

I love this studio! The class size is small with a max of about 10 students? And I’ve gotten to know some great people there that are also regulars. I also love how every session is different and the reformer machine is MUCH more interesting than just working on a mat.
Don’t worry if you’ve never done it. Carey and her team will guide you through and get you comfortable.
And one final thing. I’m not the most perfect shape and large gyms used to intimidate me. This one has clients of all sizes and shapes and no one is made to feel I adequate or inferior.
Go get healthy!!

I am very happy about a decision that I made. Praxi Pilates has the various types of Pilates classes and all of classes that I have taken so far have already made the differences on my body. If I had time, I would take these classes everyday. Fun and very effective classes!!!

Posting this as a response to the owner's response to my original review below:

Response to owner: My critique wasn’t on the challenge or level of the class, it was how you conducted it. I didn’t appreciate the constant talking with another student while trying to enjoy my class, especially when there were only two of us. It was isolating and I couldn’t focus because of it, especially when you used profane language. You did push my feet down, Carey. I know because when you did, the motion threw me off guard for a bit and I felt my lower back spasm as a result in that very moment. It might not have been something you meant to do or realized you were doing, but you did. Despite the level of the class, neither should've happened.

Original review: On Monday, I attended my fourth class at Praxi since joining the studio in late February. I have previously taken classes with Lisa and Andrea, and I have always enjoyed my experiences, leaving feeling well-worked and energized. However, my Monday class with Carey didn't go as well as the others. This was shocking to me, considering that she is the founder and head instructor of the studio.

Since I did well in level one and mixed-level classes, and have a mat Pilates background, I decided to take this level two class. There were only two people in the session, including myself and another individual. While leading, Carey and the other client chatted about personal matters throughout the 50-minute session, which I found extremely unprofessional and disrespectful.

Several moves were new to me, and Carey did help me with form and adjustments. However, she made several condescending remarks while doing so. The most frustrating part was towards the end of the class when we were doing teasers. This is a move I'm familiar with on the mat, but I had never tried it on the reformer. While going over the move, Carey pushed my feet forcefully onto the foot bar of the reformer, which I was unprepared for. When she did so, it immediately re-triggered an old back injury that I hadn't felt in two years. If this was my first class at the studio, I would never have returned. The unwelcoming energy of the session, coupled with a re-triggered back flare-up that I'm now dealing with, is upsetting. I can't foresee coming back anytime soon.

I’m new to Pilates, and after extensive research…. I finally settled on trying it out with Praxi. This is by far one of the best decisions I’ve made in my workout routine!
- Firstly, Carey offers so many different packages that cater to everyone! One of her packages makes it so easy and simple to try out the different classes and instructors that Praxi offers!
- Second, the classes and instructors are fantastic. Each one is different, all having different styles as well. The instructors are all incredibly nice and help walk you through the entire workout!
- Third, the atmosphere. Probably my favorite part about Praxi is the amazing instructors and the members. They’re all so helpful, sweet, and make the experience so much fun! I actually look forward to this every class I take and it always boosts my mood/energy.
- Fourth, the workout you get makes you realize jus how many muscles you have been neglecting HAAHAHA I’ve never been more sore in any other workout I’ve done. Not only that, but it targets everything! You get a full body workout in one class!
After taking multiple classes with multiple instructors, I can happily say that I look forward to starting my membership and continuing on with Praxi!

It has only been a couple months of steadily going to classes, but I'm fairly addicted and have enjoyed getting to know both the instructors and my classmates! It's a great workout and I feel so accomplished when I'm finished!

I look forward to every class!! Carey is an amazing instructor and I’ve seen real results in just a few months. And a stronger core has led to improvements with all of my other work outs. Check out classes with Jeff and Andrea too. They may seem easier at first but then you feel that burn the next day. Whether you are new to Pilates or a seasoned pro - this spot is for you!!

I've been taking classes with Carey for quite some time now, and she balances challenge with inspiration perfectly (for all levels)! The studio is a peaceful, welcoming place that I look forward to entering after a long and hectic day. The other instructors (Jeff, Andrea, Kelly and Caroline) are all very good at what they do, and bring good karma into the space. So glad Praxi is here!

Carey is the ABSOLUTE BEST! I have been practicing pilates for more than ten years, and Carey is the best instructor I have ever worked with. I tried every pilates studio in the DC/MD/VA area, and NOTHING compared to Carey's classes (or her rates!!). She provides the best workouts, while effortlessly adjusting to various skill levels in each class. Before she purchased this new studio, I followed her around to various locations in the area because she is SO worth it. And now she has her own beautiful new studio!! I strongly encourage anyone who is looking to tone and shape their body while improving their health to GO TO PRAXI PILATES! It will be the best decision you make for yourself!
