About the Club

Founded in 2010 to serve the Greater Richmond area , Project Yoga Richmond believes that yoga has the power to transform lives and, in turn, whole communities.

That’s why we provide individuals and groups affordable and inclusive access to yoga and mindfulness programs that strengthen physical, emotional, and spiritual health.

We do this through pay-what-you-can community classes, deepening education opportunities, and our community outreach programs.

Through our network of trained ambassadors and volunteers, Project Yoga Richmond forms meaningful partnerships throughout the community to reach those who may not have access to yoga.

I followed instructions on their website in September 2021 and still have not heard anything back, and it is January of 2022. Not only is this unprofessional it is also uncalled for. To reduce peoples effort a simple response would have worked. Why tell someone to fill out the form on your website if you are not going to get back to them? It logically doesn’t make any sense. Since I have filled out the form four months ago I have seen others become ambassadors and all on social media which means they have responded to other people except for me. I’m not sure if it is intentional or what but this is definitely not a good look. When people reach out for help a simple response is professional, but to continue to not respond is not only unprofessional but childish. Do better. No response is needed now. Just wanted to let others know about MY experience.

Although it says on the website that PYR is closed, they are now offering online classes which is great! I love being able to continue my practice at home.

While I appreciate that this can save you money on a tight budget. I went to a class that said gentle it was anything but. Make sure title of class fits class.

I recently started going here. Loved the classes. I was late due to horrendous traffic one day and the folks there were extremely rude about a locked door policy. Under no circumstances could I enter the class 10 minutes late, even though I am a seasoned yogi and even though traffic was out of my hands. I understand the intention to keep a quiet space but I wouldn’t have disturbed the class.. doesn’t seem very yogic. Very disappointed.

This is a great studio and the Friday flow is my favorite class currently. I have gotten into yoga in the past 6 months via Saturday Salutations, which is a great way to get started in your practice, and have been growing as a yogi primarily at PYR.
The cultural benefit that PYR offers with community outreach is something I will gladly donate to. Great staff all around and they are doing Richmond a tremendous favor for offering yoga to all walks of life.

Wonderful, affordable yoga studio with a wide range of class offerings for both beginners and non-beginners. The focus is always on wellness and acceptance rather than "perfect performance." Classes are pay-what-you-can (there is zero pressure from the check-in volunteers). They are a nonprofit, so the proceeds go to fund yoga classes in the community for people who may not otherwise have access to yoga.

I've been a yoga student for nearly 20 years, practicing various styles with different groups & instructors during that time. In my experience, PYR teachers are by far the best. The poses are led in a way that are highly effective for "getting out the kinks" and asanas are often presented with a beginner, intermediate and difficult version. The surroundings are comfortable and serene, classes are never monotonous; and best of all the philosophy of yoga is retained instead of being sacrificed for the sake of New Age "fitness." As a result PRY classes offer a well-rounded benefit to the participant - physically, mentally and spiritually - essential in the stresses of society today. The fact that the cost of classes are "pay what you can" is icing on the cake!

I absolutely love this place. Classes are wonderful--thoughtfully curated, wide variety of paces and styles--and I can't say enough about how lovely the people are who teach, volunteer, and lead the organization. Yoga Nidra, or yogic sleep, on Monday evening is a very calming guided meditation done while lying down.
