I’m on the advanced team that practices every Monday/Wednesday evening here. Great bouldering problems and routes. They also have auto-belay, cave with a roof, lead climbing, top-rope, vert-wall, Moon Board, Stokt wall, gym equipment, hang board, yoga mats, snacks, drinks, etc.

We are so happy we joined this gym. Our 4 and 7 year olds fell in love with climbing instantly, and talk about it all day. There is ample space and opportunity to challenge themselves and feel a sense of accomplishment when they figure out a course, and coaches Jess and Megan are so patient and supportive with them. We feel lucky to have them as guides!

Checked this place out while I was in town for the holidays, bouldering routes are a bit harder than other gyms I’ve been to but very fun and unique. Lots of space for belay climbing as well and I like that they have auto belay. Staff are very friendly and helpful.

Great climbing gym! I really like the employees there. They change up one of the bouldering walls every week and they have a lot of top roping and auto belay routes that I enjoy (some lead climbing too but I haven't done that yet)

If you’re going because you want a place to get a hard workout in this is a great spot. For a training climber this place has the old school vibe and the sandbagged grades to go with it which makes it really fun and hard.

The implementation of the clip in system for top rope gives me significant pause. They use an archaic opposite & opposed locker system but don’t seem to retie the figure 8 knots the carabiners are on very often and some of the tails on those knots are unacceptably short. Well less than 6 inches likely due to cyclical loading and lack of stretch in the rope. They also don’t seem to flip the ropes or otherwise allow the ropes to recover their elasticity. I took a slight fall onto one of the top ropes with some slack in the system and it felt like I was going to snap in two due to there being zero stretch in the rope to provide a soft catch.

This place is legit if you are a hardcore climber looking to gain or retain skills. At the same time it is also great for beginners to learn the skills and have fun doing it, and for a reasonable price. The staff is very friendly as well. I take my son there infrequently and he really enjoys it.

I would love to see an elliptical and treadmil here. I have no problem paying 100 a month to climb, but for that price, I feel like you should get basic gym amenities as well. Yes, I could go to Planet Fitness or whatever for relatively cheap, but I don't want to stop climbing and drive somewhere else to finish my workout.

Free weights are fine. Nothing fancy, but it suits the needs of most. Just needs some kind of cardio machine.

It's a bit small, but there are some interesting routes, and a few V2-V5s will satisfy most intermediate climbers. I haven't done top rope here because I enjoy bouldering more, so I can't speak to that.

Also, a little more lighting or better lighting would improve the atmosphere, and honestly, it needs a really good cleaning. There are dust bunnies between the mats and the wall the size of my firstborn son. Not real hyped about it when I look down and see all the filth. Wouldn't take more than 30 minutes to vacuum up all the dust bunnies, although I'm sure it needs a more thorough cleaning than that.

Not a huge facility, but plenty of routes and options. Took my 4 yr old ,who's never climbed before, and he LOVED it! We did the auto-belay, some bouldering, and a little of the upstairs kid's section, and he wants to have his birthday party there (the upstairs is a sectioned off kids party area).

I've been here a few times and have always loved it. However, the Bob Cat summer camp deserves 10/5 stars. My 4 year old went 2 weeks ago and hasn't stopped talking about it to everyone and keeps asking me if she can go back! I noticed the staff and other kids were all friendly! So, she enjoyed not only the exercises and activities, but all the people too. It was very sad to see her say goodbye to all of her new friends. We will do it again and are looking forward to the school year camp.

What a cool place!!!! I had no idea it was here until I saw their name as a sponsor of a sporting event. The place is very accommodating for small or large groups or individuals. The staff was extremely helpful and accommodating. The first time you go your equipment rental (shoes, chalk, harness) is included in your day pass cost. It's great for beginners and experienced climbers and very close to all sorts of restaurants and cool places within walking distance to plan a great day in downtown Lynchburg.
They had a kids birthday party at the time I was there and they were having a blast. They also have special prices for students and first responders.

I think if you have kids and know how to belay than this is a good gym for you. That being said, a few things concerned/confused me when we visited.

Most of the carabiners for the rope routes did not automatically lock/close fully, we had to manually push many of them into place and triple check that they were locked (very stressful, esp. if people are new or are not being thorough) it seems like they need to update their gear.
The bouldering sections had confusing routes as there were random pieces of duct tape that split up the wall or there were arrows at the top that we did not know what they meant. No one went over it in person/or in the video and with how busy the gym was it caused a lot of anxiety.
Last two things, when we arrived (4pm) there was no one at the front desk and despite ringing a bell there, we waited almost 10 minutes to be greeted by anyone.
And finally, the rope section was nice, just wish there were more 5.9s/intermediate routes as everything was either 5.10+ or the 5.8s felt like they should be 5.5/5.6s.

First and second time climbing ever. Passed by when on a run and decided to give climbing a shot. Driving through for work knowing nothing about climbing took a shot and it was a blast. Every question I had was answered by members. They made me feel very welcome. Even got a bit of coaching from one of the other climbers. The sport and the community is addicting. Had such a great time I had to stop by again on my return trip. I will be visiting Rise Up Climbing on every work trip that brings me this way!

We thoroughly enjoyed our visit to Rise Up climbing! Great routes on bouldering & top rope. We don’t climb lead but it looked like they had a dedicated lead area as well. Staff was friendly and the facility was clean. Our favorite part was the climbing cave! It was a very fun challenge. They had plenty of beginner, intermediate, and advanced routes on all walls. We took our kids here today and had a great time. My wife didn't climb so she could help guide our sons. The boys and I climbed and it was a lot of fun. JB and Chris were very helpful and friendly. My youngest son is a talker and they were great with him and answered all of his questions since we've never rock wall climbed before. There are lots of different levels of difficulty which makes it nice for newbies and experienced climbers. If we lived in the area we'd definitely be getting the yearly pass, we loved it.

After being a faithful member for over a year, I can honestly say Rise-up has made a handful of decidedly good changes. They added showers, a real yoga studio, a bouldering cave and a solid weightlifting area. Unfortunately, their outdated facility is still plagued by countless spinners, inconsistent route quality/turnover, and inconsistent/unclear messaging from the staff.

After talking with a staff member about cancelling my membership about three weeks ago I was assured that I just needed to make sure I cancelled my membership before the 10th of the following month (date of billing) so to avoid being charged for an additional month. Unfortunately it appears that said staff member was mistaken. After putting in my cancellation request in on the 3rd I went to talk to JB ( gym co-owner) so to confirm I would not be billed for an additional month.

JB informed me that I would be charged for an additional month regardless of the fact that His employee was propagating incorrect information. He explained that their membership policies outline that you must cancel your membership before the 1st of the month to not be charged for the following month. Furthermore, they increased their membership fee without sending an email out to inform their members.

I can accept the fact that I should have read all of the fine print instead of asking an employee for information but the rude, careless, and dismissive attitude displayed by the gym management was honestly shocking. I suppose customer service and honest business practices do not matter when you have no competition. All other staff members have been very polite.

Rise Up was a blast for my active 6 and 10 year old grandchildren. Staff provided patient, thorough safety instructions for auto belaying. Ultimately, it was the responsibility of myself and the kids to follow procedures.

I allowed them to climb and belay as much as they liked and then we went home for lunch. After a rest, they begged to return. They climbed and challenged each other until they were too fatigued to continue.

The kids befriended a boy about their age who was well skilled who gave them tips and encouraged them. My two young hikers now consider themselves climbers and can’t wait for their next visit.

Let me start by saying I have never been inside of this place. This is not a review of the rock wall itself.

The reason for the rating is the customer service. A manager and co-owner of the business, J. B. Askew, emailed me back after I inquired about possible student discounts (as a financially responsible person should do). After politely pointing out that he could have been a little nicer and more professional to boost business for him, I was met with another rude email.

Feel free to go, but do not email them!!

We had a wonderful time as a family of four on our first climbing experience at Rise Up. JB and Stephen were very welcoming and helped explain and demonstrate everything to us safely. We were pleased that even our skeptical 5 year old was able to climb safely (and that they had equipment available for her petite frame). To top it all off, because it was our oldest's birthday, the guys surprised our kids with free swag and it made the entire experience that much sweeter! This is a wonderful small business that's easy to support - family fun, movement, and impeccable customer service! Five stars!

I had been wanting to give my son the chance to try rock climbing for a while and decided to go here while in Lynchburg (we're from out of town). We were totally ignorant to the climbing world, but the guy at the front desk (Tyler? Trevor? Travis?) was very helpful and treated us great. I recently moved back to Lynchburg and was looking for a gym to join, so I went from gym to gym (not like there are that many in Lynchburg anyway) basically interviewing them and seeing what the gyms had to offer. One of my friends suggested that I check out the climbing gym downtown and so I did, they sold me within the first 15 minutes of walking in the door. The next day I came back, got a membership and have been climbing ever since. The facility is great and the community is even better! I was weary since I was a beginner, but, I soon learned that the staff as well as the members were very beginner friendly unlike some of the climbing gyms I had been to in the past. Since joining a little over a month ago the problems on the bouldering wall are all new from when I started, this facility is excellent, the staff and environment is awesome and most of all, they know their stuff!
