I’m a 38-year-old mom of two (1.5 and 4.5 years old), and most of my days are spent at home or running errands. I hadn’t worked out in years—and had never lifted more than a 5 lb weight in my life. After watching my husband get a personal trainer in Richmond, lose a ton of weight, and completely transform his fitness, I finally decided it was my turn.

I found Alex at Simple Fitness and, honestly, cried during our intake call about how I couldn’t seem to lose the baby weight no matter what I tried. I started training with her once a week in August, then joined her 9-week challenge where I began lifting weights 3–4 times a week. Within just a few sessions, I felt more optimistic than I had in years. A week or two into the challenge, I already felt like my best self again.

I haven’t obsessed over the scale, but I’ve lost about 10 lbs in the last 2.5 months—without really changing my diet—just by adding strength training. I’m now the strongest I’ve ever been and can almost deadlift my body weight (which blows my mind!). Beyond the physical changes, I look better, feel happier, and actually love going to work out—even at 6 a.m. on a Monday!

The environment at Simple Fitness is incredible—especially for women who might feel self-conscious at big gyms filled with hardcore lifters. This is a space for women who want to get stronger, feel better, and be surrounded by encouragement and community. It’s truly the only gym I’ve ever been to that feels like a family.

Alex is incredible soul. She is knowledgeable, dedicated and a powerhouse. She embodies true balance as a personal trainer. She is your cheerleader and a team member in your support system. She is so encouraging with a flare of motivation. I’ve been working with Alex for nearly 4 months now. She has taken an approach to fitness that has healed my mindset around ‘diet’, nutrition, fitness, and wellness. In those 4 months, not only am I lifting heavier, but she has increased my intake from 1700 cals a day to nearly 2500, I’ve lost 5 pounds, can see my body toning, and feel better than ever before. Her 9 week program is so amazing! Before doing this class I was nervous to go to the gym because I just really didn’t know what I was doing or what I needed to do for my body. She gave me so much confidence with weights and form and breathing techniques. I was on the fence about doing the class just because a gym membership is cheaper but I am so glad I did. It held me accountable to go to class (even at 6am lol), taught me so much about calories and macros, I got to see that I’m not “weak” I just needed to build up my weight! Alex is also just such a kind person and really cares about you and your progress but isn’t aggressive or mean if you get off track or have a bad week. I am so glad that I did this program and I would do it again and again and again! Thank you so much Alex!

Her 9 week program is the real deal, and it really is a deal for all that goes into it too. Alex is SO knowlegable and really walks you through the why to the methodologies. Every time I come to Richmond, my sister trains me and my friends and she is better and more knowledgeable that the trainers that I have had living in Los Angeles. She doesn’t treat me like her brother. She goes into full work mode and treats me like a client, which I prefer. I have a lot of metal in my legs from an accident and she has had enough training to create routines around my needs. If you have the chance to try out one of her classes, I guarantee that she will make it a good session.
