We had the most amazing workout, highly recommend it and we are definitely coming back! My daughter and I are trying different workout classes and we heard about SPENGA and we thought we’d give it a try. The reason we like it so much is that it works on different muscles in your body and also it’s not boring, before you know it, you are doing something else. I also love how it ends with yoga, it was very relaxing at the end. Thank you Emma and Emma for a great class. One more thing, the staff is extremely welcoming and they are all so wonderful. We arrived and our names were written in our lockers, very nice touch ♥️

We have signed up with ClassPass to try out different classes and by far this has been our favorite class. It’s really nice because it works on different muscles in your body and it’s also not boring because before you know it, you are doing something else. I had the pleasure of meeting the owner and the instructor they both have amazing energy and very welcoming. But baby let’s talk about the work out… chefs kiss, it was amazing. The best experience I’ve had in a very long time, dealing with depression from a miscarriage and coming here has truly awaken my spirit to put me and my health first. I’ve been doing SPENGA for the past couple of months and it’s been a great experience. I usually go in the mornings, sometimes afternoons but mostly morning, and it’s an awesome way to kickstart the day. The 20 minutes of spin gets my heart rate up and clears my head, then the strength portion is just the right amount of work. You know your body, you know your limits, and there’s no pressure to push beyond what feels right. That’s been huge for me, especially after having shoulder surgery about eight months ago.
I’m not really a yoga person, and most mornings I’m tight on time, so I usually duck out before the yoga portion. But I like that it’s there if I ever need a good stretch or a slower pace.
Overall, it’s a solid mix of cardio and strength in just an hour, and I leave feeling better every time. Highly recommend it.

A very strenuous onboarding. They asked me for excessive amount of info ahead of the class, then denied entry when I showed up 5 min before the class, telling me I’d need 20 min to learn the tech! Really sad because I was excited to try them out. I showed up to have fun and move, instead I received an unparalleled level of incompetence, lethargic
behavior and additional stress. Will never try again!… Reading other reviews on the class experience, it sounds like I dodged the bullet! 🙏

I love the workouts and the whole experience here - a perfect blend of exercises, with great instructors and a super friendly staff. And when I ran into a medical issue, Sherry couldn't have been more compassionate, helpful and concerned, adjusting my membership and making it so smooth and hassle-free. I've been so disappointed in my Spenga experience. I would not recommend this gym to anyone and BE CAREFUL of their memberships, it's a NIGHTMARE trying to cancel.
The spin part of the class is fun with jamming music and you learn to adjust your zones depending on the trainer if you want a more aggressive cardio session.
The strength workouts felt dangerous to me. The time for an exercise tended to be too long and too frequent for strength. So you're doing back to back sets of ~10-20 reps. Eventually I just stopped going to avoid injury. Also, if you want over 15 lbs in weights, they aren't at your station and you have to run across the room to get each pair.
Finally, the yoga ends up being a cool down/after thought unless you specifically select a trainer who is good at it.
In the end, I found I was getting an okay cardio workout, a high rep lift that I didn't like, and a disappointing yoga flow.
Then I tried to cancel, and the nightmare continued. I've messaged about 4 times asking to cancel and asking to confirm cancellation, and the manager responds but won't confirm the cancellation.

The studio itself is great and the staff amazing. I really enjoyed the workouts here and the facility is new. However, if you ever need to cancel, watch out. The owner twice forgot to cancel charges/subscriptions despite advance notices. Luckily, I asked for a copy of my cancellation form, and successfully disputed my credit card charges. These may be isolated incidents, but it leaves a sour taste in my mouth.

I have been coming here for about 4 months now and I really do enjoy it. I travel from Charles County MD to come here, so that should tell you a lot about my experience. My ONLY issue is, there's not enough space to really enjoy yoga because we're so close to one another and some of us have long arms/legs. So, I sometimes walk out when we get to the yoga portion. This past weekend, an employee came over to adjust a fan that was beside me and she stepped all over my mat with her dirty tennis shoes. She apologized, but the space is just really small for such full classes. So, I ended up walking out on yoga that day as well. Another thing that is pretty annoying, is people coming in late. They have to adjust their bikes and then they adjust the fans to THEIR liking AS IF those of us who come ON TIME don't like a little breeze from the fan as well. Overall, it's a great place to get the combination of spin/strength/yoga. When you get the FULL experience, you'll leave feeling GREAT!

This is by far the best workout class I have done. I have done other cycle and strength classes before but I always find myself unable to finish the whole class, but the SPENGA structure is literally PERFECT! You get such a good workout with amazing instructors that know and care about everyone in the class. If you have health issues they should be aware of, they add it into your file and all the instructors are notified prior to class so they know how to help you if you need it!! I drive an hour one way twice or three times a week for class just because it’s that worth it. HIGHLY recommend!!

I’m by no means a cyclist, and it’s been a couple covid years since I was in my best shape, so I was a bit nervous to try a spin class. I was pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed the first class; it’s a great class for all levels! I mean, it’s tough, don’t get me wrong, but it’s attainable and even mostly fun. The coaches walk around and offer modifications and help your adjust your form as needed, which is nice. I love the yoga session at the end to cool down and stretch!

I love the variety of the 20/20/20 at Spenga. I've never had a consistent workout routine, but the friendliness and motivation from the staff make it easy to show up to class every time. Thank you Amy for helping me work towards and push past my personal goals! It can be pretty pricey, but definitely worth it for the workout. I highly recommend joining for a Themed class. I love SPENGA! Tried a variety of classes/studios on the classpass free trial and I ended up going with a membership at SPENGA instead. Aside from the amazing smell in the lobby and bubbly personalities of the staff and instructors, I love SPENGA because of the welcoming and encouraging environment. Everyone is encouraged to push themselves at their own pace - and instructors encourage/suggest modifications for those who need them. (This is one reason I chose SPENGA over other classes that felt a little judgmental or too pushy when I felt the exercises were too difficult for my level). You simply can't beat the variety of spin strength & yoga all packed into one - the main reason SPENGA wins in my book. All in all, this is a great workout for anyone from beginner to gym rat - can't wait for my next class :)

I have lived in Ballston for almost two years. I have walked by this gym a number of times. I finally decided to try it out. The instructors are great, the staff is great, and the owner is really nice. I normally attend times a week. I normally burn anywhere from 400 to 700 calories a class. I have the unlimited pass. It is worth it. 100% would recommend.

The place offers a decent workout that combines spin/cardio, strength, and yoga. The spin section is almost more of a warm up. I do wish the instructors would come to a consensus as to what each zone is supposed to mean. Some instructors don't bother to explain the zones and just hop right into it, while others give varied descriptions of what RPM we should be hitting on our bikes. It's so confusing.
Depending on how it's structured, the strength section is more solid than spin section. It was done as more strength with some cardio mixed in (such as squat jumps). At times, I didn't find it challenging but for the most part this was the best part of the entire "SPENGA" workout. I was able to go up in weights quite a bit during some of the exercises as they weren't challenging/were really basic moves.
Overall the yoga section was definitely the weakest with all of the instructors that I tried. The instructors used incorrect terminology for yoga poses and struggled to adequately describe what we should be doing. I had to keep looking up at the instructors to follow what we were supposed to be doing (and saw others looking lost so it wasn't just me). It was more of just a stretch for 20 minutes and not actually yoga.
The studio itself is clean, with fairly new equipment that's well-maintained. Most of the staff is friendly. It has to be noted that there's not a lot of diversity amongst the staff.
Some other things to note:
-For some reason they clean the dumbbells from the strength portion while the class does the yoga.
-They don't offer modifications during strength.
-They come in and take photos and videos during the strength section without getting your consent.
I rated this studio at 2 stars because the workout is decent though not unique enough to match the price point. I would not recommend purchasing a monthly (or unlimited) membership as you could definitely get as good (if not better) workout in each of the core areas of SPENGA at nearby fitness studios for a better price.

Writing this from a secondary account since I actively come here, and want to be honest without hurting anyone’s feelings.
Overall, I love this place and the instructors are great for the most part. I have tried many other gyms/fitness studios but this was the one that has stuck to me by keeping it fun and switching up the pace. I physically and mentally feel good coming here like I got a really good workout.
Now I’m not sure if I would recommend it to just anyone. My issue for knocking off stars is the prices and costs for the cancellation policy. I have been coming here for quite some time now and I have the unlimited membership, which is $209 a month. Substantially more than other exercise studios Ive been to. Again, I bear the cost because this is the only place that has kept me motivated, but if you don’t really have that problem, find somewhere else.
The surrounding street grids are very busy and the timing of the sessions is pretty limited, and they fill up pretty quickly. That being said, you have to plan ahead to come here. It’s $15 for a no-show, $10 for a cancellation within 8 hours, and you’ll get turned away at the door if you’re more than 5 min late for a session you signed up for. I understand that of course they have to make money, so they want to make space for paying customers who are ACTUALLY coming. The $15 no show fee makes sense. However, not being able to cancel the session within 8 hours is wack. If I take more time to plan out my day, the sessions are already all booked! (Like for example if I’m not sure what time I’ll be done at work, there’s no wiggle room for me to book in the morning and cancel it if I’m running late, but if I wait until after work to book it there will be no spots left).
The 5 min late policy is new. I find this ridiculous given the aforementioned reason, as well as the fact that parking is hell over there. I can’t believe they would deny you a 55-minute workout just for being late. I came in 2-3 min late for a session this week and the front desk person condescendingly reminded me of the 5 min late policy, even tho I wasn’t even that late. I know they was just doing their job, but it left a sour taste in my mouth with the fact that I’m paying so much to be here and they’re just going to be so unforgiving about it.
Anyway, I hope my thoughts will be taken into consideration and I will continue to be coming here until I cease to enjoy myself!

I came here to try out a class through ClassPass and it was much better than I thought it would be! I arrived 30 minutes early per their request and talked to the front desk staff who were incredibly nice and helpful (sadly I forgot their names..) and they helped me get set up. I then got to meet the instructor, Susie, who walked me through the gym and explained how everything works and got me setup on the bike before class started. Susie was an excellent instructor and made the class challenging but fun! I like the 20/20/20 split because it really makes the class fly by while still giving you enough time on each section. Will definitely be back!

I tried out a workout class through SPENGA about a week ago. I love that they incorporate cardio, strength training, and yoga. My body felt great afterwards getting in 20 minutes worth of stretching. The cycling portion, I felt could have been slightly more high intensity and the instructor was off of the bike for 75% of the class so I didn’t feel as pushed and motivated during that section. Also, I felt as though there could have been more modifications for certain strength training exercises. The facilities were super nice and clean. There are lockers and bathrooms for use within the studio. All equipment appeared brand new and top of the line. My one hang up about this studio is the price. While I understand that rent is robably high and employees provide a service, $300 for 10 sessions, $209 a month, or $750 for 30 classes is very expensive. I did not see an option for a single drop in either. I could get a gym membership that offers a variety of classes for much cheaper. Overall, I liked the studio, staff and the class. However, I think you could get a similar workout for a cheaper price.

I decided to try Spenga after doing a session via class pass and have absolutely loved it! For anyone who struggles to self motivate/wants variety in their workout routines, this is a really great option, and the staff and studio are unmatched. 10/10 would recommend Spenga Ballston!

Did the summer promo package and let me tell you, one of the best decisions I've ever made! Not only are the staff so nice and welcoming, but knowledgeable about fitness. They'll push you to your best and help you towards your fitness goals. I'm stronger from just 12 weeks of Spenga and would recommend it to everyone interested in dynamic group training.

UPDATE: Over a year later, still going 4-5 days a week! Have never felt so strong, seen so much muscle growth, or stuck with a workout routine so consistently and happily! Hoping to hit 250 classes by the beginning of October!
Initially thought I'd go maybe 2x a week. Upgraded to an unlimited plan after my second session and went 5x last week alone. Amazing space, even better coaches, and the most engaging and challenging workout I've had in a while. I feel so happy and motivated after a session and can already see a difference in my strength and flexibility after barely a month in! Highly recommend to anyone looking for a solid community, personal growth, and a fun/challenging workout!

I love Spenga and I am not a workout fanatic. I feel like since you move workouts every 20 minutes you never get tired of the activities. It’s in a great location just blocks from the metro, and fortunately for me, just steps from my apartment building. My one feedback is that the music is never anything to current, but, that’s definitely not a deal breaker for me!

Sherry and her team are so wonderful and make you feel incredibly welcome not just on your first visit but with every visit to the studio! In addition to the the great team at SPENGA Ballston, I love the workout and the 20/20/20 split between spin, strength/HIIT, and yoga...it's like getting three of my favorite workout styles all in one session! The spin and strength/HIIT portions are very scalable and meet you where you're at each session (i.e. if you're feeling strong, you can totally go all out but if your body is tired/sore and needs a slightly less intense session, you can scale back). In particular, I appreciate ending with the yoga because that's the one area I'll neglect or skip if I'm working out on my own and in a rush. I would highly recommend checking out SPENGA Ballston if you live in the area!

Spenga is a really fun class. Can get bored doing 20 min spin 20 min lifting and 20 min yoga. 60 minutes passes by so fast. I don’t love exercise but I love Spenga! I’m over 50 and not an athlete. Great for everyone.

I love this workout. You cover cardio, strength training and flexibility in one workout. The instructors are fantastic, and the faculties are clean and have a fun vibe. Something I really liked was the video screens in the strength room, so you can make sure you’re doing the exercises properly. There’s no pressure to do things you can’t do - just encouragement and a more doable option until you’re ready. Lastly I liked having a bottle of water waiting for me when I finished the bike ride. Highly recommend.

SPENGA is my new favorite place to work out! The session structure is perfect to warm up my body with 20 minutes of spin so I can work hard during 20 minutes of strength, then cool down and stretch with 20 minutes of yoga/recovery. All of the instructors are fantastic and each has their own style! Can't recommend SPENGA enough - great for all fitness levels, too!

So far, it’s been an amazing experience! I have trouble staying engaged during my workouts so I love the setup of these sessions- only 20 minutes of each! And the instructors don’t spare a second of it. It’s a perfect fitness transition for someone like me who loves to workout by activity and also wants a decent but doable challenge.
