My husband and I have been training with Anton for just over a year, and it’s been an amazing journey. Anton is extremely knowledgeable about strength training and general health and wellness. He takes the time to explain how muscles coordinate, so we understand the “why” behind each exercise. From the beginning, he took the time to learn about our goals and designed a personalized plan to help us achieve them. Over the past year, we’ve been able to steadily build real strength under his guidance.
Anton truly cares. He invests in building a strong relationship with us, which makes every session both effective and enjoyable. The studio itself also has a warm and friendly vibe that makes training something we look forward to each week.
We’re grateful to have found Anton and highly recommend him to anyone looking for a knowledgeable, supportive, and dedicated trainer.

“Like many people, I’ve always exercised off and on. But at my age (74), it’s essential to exercise consistently at least 3 times a week. My trainer, Anton, has kept me on track. He’s creative at designing the right exercises for what I need, taking into account what I can and can’t do. I’m stronger and have more stamina. Before I began training, I had fallen 4 times in the last year. Since I began, I haven’t fallen once.”

Highly recommend TFN. The are great teachers and kind motivators. The workouts are tailored to your specific needs. It is not one size fits all. I have chronic health issues and Ashley has been a key factor in making me the strongest I've ever been at 62! It's never too late and the positive changes to the quality of your day to day life are priceless! Thanks TFN for making me strong and unstoppable!!

I love the one-on-one training and the fact that everyone has a degree in kinesiology (or equivalent). It’s a personal gym that also offers physical therapy, nutrition counseling and remote video sessions. The atmosphere is very training focused without a bunch of people lifting on their own to distract from the individual experience.

I’ve been going to TFN for the last three years. Ever since I started lifting with them (one hour per session, twice a week) my body changed dramatically! My sixty-year-old-body is now much stronger, healthier and better looking than ever! (Says my kids.😁) Above all, I have so much energy each and every day, and even have my mind always in the right place! At first, I was reluctant spending money on weight lifting. But I’ll tell you…. It’s sooooo worth it! It changed not only my body, but it changed my life! All of the trainers at TFN are super nice, fun and professional. They are very well experienced in body training, nutrition and more. My trainer Jen even fixed my spinal injury related shoulder problem that I had for a long time. And let’s not forget TFN’s one and only super massage therapist, Kyori who knows throughly how to bring your body back in shape! TFN is a place where everyone can challenge and achieve their best “self” in a safe and fun environment. Whether if you are a well experienced competitive lifter or a total novice in lifting, or just out of shape or depressed, or getting old like me (ha!), or just want to challenge yourself and achieve your best everyday, TFN is the place for it! So come and lift with us! 💪🏼

Darren is a fantastic personal trainer. I started seeing him with little to no experience in strength training, and within just a few weeks he had corrected my form, pushed me (safely and incrementally) to higher and higher lifts, and set me up to continue progressing on my own.
His helpful tweaks and adjustments to each exercise, both before and during our sessions, are invaluable. While so many other trainers have a hard time explaining exactly how to move and position yourself, Darren gives directions and advice that are easy to follow, and explains the importance of each modification.
On top of it all, he's personable and easy to chat with during those breaks between sets. Highly recommend to anyone looking to put on muscle or otherwise improve their gym experience.

Working with Darren A has been simply transformational - as a newcomer to strength training, Darren has guided me to achieve great results in increasing my strength, balance, and overall wellness. Darren's patient and unflappably upbeat coaching style, combined with his skill in helping me take on new challenges, have grown my confidence and strength!

In my opinion Darren Ayar is one of the best trainers around. He takes the time to not only teach the exercises, but also explains the physiology and mechanics behind each of the exercises. To me this has been incredibly helpful and I feel like I get more out of the training session. He also comes prepared with training plans and documents my progress from each session. If I could give Darren more than 5 stars, I would.

Darren is an amazing trainer! I’ve been working with him for half a year, and I’ve been able to achieve my fitness goals with him (increased strength)!
He’s so knowledgeable and he’s able to quickly adapt my workouts to limitations I have for the day, while also pushing me. With him I’ve seen significantly improved form and decreased pain, so I feel safe pushing myself further. I go to him with any fitness/health questions and he provides great advice, you can tell he’s put in the time to learn and loves his work!

Several comments to make:
I found True Fitness and Nutrition through a Google search. This group is solid and admired by a large following so it’s no surprise they came up first in my search for a trainer. I’ve been a thrice weekly regularly for several weeks- what an experience.
One thing you notice right off the bat are the interesting array of sweet, mostly elderly but active dogs- all sizes but a steady welcome from all.
The trainers are as friendly as the pets that roam freely throughout the gym. My personal trainer, Kevin, is 25 going on 50- wise beyond his years, firm when it’s needed, and a booster 100% of the time. A steady stream of guidance and feedback has helped me reach a level of fitness I brag about to friends ( also senior citizens). A fear of falling is yesterday’s worry and the possibility of water skiing this summer tomorrow’s realistic ideal.
Kevin is a part of a great team which I think of more as a family. Each one is friendly, encouraging and a superstar. I haven’t deliberately (or otherwise) missed a scheduled session. That wasn’t the case when I worked out in other programs.
A great value for the cost of a session. Thank you TFN friends/family

I’ve been training with Anton at TFN for 4 months now, and I cannot recommend him highly enough. In fact, my parents are now training with him, too — that is how much I (and we!) like him!
I started training with Anton when I was 8 weeks postpartum after having baby #3. Prior to having children, I suffered with a herniated disc that led to back surgery, and after that I was terrified of moving the wrong way — and forget lifting heavy weights! — out of fear that I could aggravate my back injury. So, I came to Anton in a pretty weak state.
Anton is extremely knowledgeable about physiology and has expertly tailored our sessions to my needs, taking into account my back issues and my weak core after 3 pregnancies. With his guidance, I have — safely, and without aggravating my back — gotten so much stronger. During today’s training session, I squatted 75 pounds. That is a huge deal for me! But the best part is that it means I can carry my three kids around with much more ease and without fear of getting hurt, and I can also do things around the house that I used to rely on my husband for.
These sessions have been life changing and I recommend anyone who is thinking of personal training to try out a session with Anton. (I haven’t worked with the other trainers at TFN, but they seem great, too, and they are all very friendly and welcoming.)

Working out with and learning from Kevin Nguyen at TFN has been my best personal training experience to date. With the right mix of congeniality and know-how, Kevin began our first session with discovering my personal fitness goals, then developed a workout strategy that inspired me to exceed them. His educational background in physiology and practical experience in sports conditioning adds depth to his approach and enables him to adjust, on the fly, each workout to my current circumstances. Working both hard and smart, I get 100% satisfaction out of every session, and I am 100% satisfied with the results of my efforts. I highly recommend Kevin and TFN!

I've been working with Adrian for the past few months now and am so incredibly glad that I decided to continue with TFN.
I have had chronic Jumpers Knee for almost a year and despite medications and professional Physical Therapy, I simply was not getting better. After working with TFN on a holistic workout program my condition is practically resolved.
This is undoubtedly due to the level of knowledge, enthusiasm, and careful technique that Adrian employs in every single training session. His level of knowledge about the body and correct form / technique has helped a complete newby like myself start feeling more confident and strong when weight training.
If you are looking to begin improving your body regardless of your skill level, I highly recommend TFN for a tailored program and attentive and caring staff. Cannot recommend it enough, make the investment in yourself!

A few weeks ago, I started to have some unusual back pain that was resulting from my powerlifting, particularly from the deadlift. Rather then try to suffer through it, I knew that I needed to find someone to check over my form to make sure that I was doing the lifts rights. After a cursory google search, I stumbled upon TFN Training and reached out to schedule an appointment for a form check. My trainer Ashley was very knowledgable about the body mechanics related to powerlifting. She was able to highlight the problems in my technique which cleared up my back pain almost overnight.I am really grateful for TFN Training, and I would fully recommend them to anyone who is looking to get stronger or learn how to lift weights.

I have been working with Anton for the past year as a beginner in powerlifting. The first encounter was very thorough in collecting my previous experiences, goals, injuries and expectations. He gave honest feedback to my questions/goals and made sure I understood the logistics of how everything worked before moving forward. Before I started training with him, I had pulled my back during a 1 rep deadlift PR due to improper form. He sent me exercises and suggestions to help with my back pain even before our first session started. Not only has he helped improve my form to prevent future lifting injuries, he has also helped increase my overall strength and confidence. Today we revisited my old PR that had injured me before and I was able to do 4 reps safely. Anton possesses a lot of traits that I personally look for in a coach: Attentive – analyzes my movements and points out any inefficiencies to correct. Dedicated – the time and energy he puts in matches mine. Communicative – quick to respond to any questions/concerns and takes time to discuss any roadblocks that may occur (physical pain, mental fatigue, etc). Most importantly, he has a plan in place for me to reach my goals. I am someone who requires structure and specific direction, and he has built a strong foundation for me to work with. I am very grateful to have Anton as my coach and TFN provides such a safe and welcoming atmosphere to be in. I don’t see myself training anywhere else.

For years after graduating from college (3 to be exact), I told myself that I was going to start going to the gym and working out. Year after year that didn’t happen and I realized that I needed motivation to get started. I decided working with a trainer was my best bet and set out to find one. I quickly found TFN and got matched up with Kevin. One year later, I can say for certain that my improved strength and fitness is directly correlated with my work with Kevin. A year ago, I could do 0 pull ups. Now I can bang out 10 without an issue. I transitioned from 2x weekly personal training sessions to virtual coaching and a monthly visit and it is the perfect balance for someone who travels nearly every week. I’ve developed a love for lifting and working out that I intend to continue for the rest of my life. Just get off the couch and start working with the trainers at TFN. You won’t regret it.

I have been working with Kimberly in New Jersey for 1 1/2 year, before she unfortunately moved out of the state. Having multiple health-related issues with my back, knees and shoulder, I was hesitating if I have to resume physical therapy to strengthen my core muscles or go with a high intensity training at a gym. I am so happy I went with the second option after I met Kimbery, I immediately felt I would be in good hands, Kim was extremely knowledgeable and was making each work out very efficient. She would “customize” each exercise cycle based on person’s progress level and limitations. I very much liked her approach of modifying any given exercise based on person’s health history. I used to play basketball for years in middle and high school, but after a sustained trauma I was told by physical therapists that I had to avoid certain types of exercises. Kim easily made adjustments to adhere to PT’s recommendations when at the same time continued to build strength in the targeted muscle groups. I also liked a lot her warm up stretchings, relieving the long-term stiffness in joints and muscles. I started seeing the first results soon after I enrolled in the program and each week of training with Kim was bringing me closer to my ideal shape and helped me feel stronger and the pain from the chronic injures was significantly reduced. But most importantly, I cannot say enough how sweet Kim’s personality is!!! She is someone, who you can joke with or talk on serious topics- in either ways she is a great interlocutor with a big heart!!! I can sincerely say we lost a treasure and Kim’s new gym and customers are very lucky to have her there. Love you Kim and thank you for all you did for your community in New Jersey!!!

I’ve been training with Adrian for a couple months now and could not have been happier with the experience. Thanks to his expertise, I’ve been able to see incredible progress in a short amount of time. As a beginner who was new to weightlifting, Adrian helped me through every step of the way, teaching me correct forms and techniques explained in ways that I could easily grasp and understand. He is very attentive throughout the session and is not afraid to push and help reach new limits. Thanks to this, I have never felt more stronger. He is very knowledgeable at what he does and is open to answering any questions that might arise during or after the session and is overall a great trainer that I would definitely recommend for anyone looking to start or take their training to the next level!

Can't say enough wonderful things about TFN, especially Erik. He is so very knowledgeable and personable. My high school aged son started lifting with him a few weeks ago and he has learned so much about how to lift weight properly and how to avoid injury. He really looks at the whole athlete, knows his stuff, and has made quick strides with my guy. My son never complains about going to lift. Erik makes it fun and he is always eager to go work hard with him.

TFN's technical knowledge and ability to share it with others in an applicable way have really benefitted my family and me. Ashley Schell and Erik McLeod have worked extensively with us not only teaching us the "Big Three" lifts but also helping customize workouts and schedules that help each of us to attain our fitness and health goals.
Could not recommend Ashley and Erik any more highly. They earn five stars not only for the way they do their work, but also for the results they achieve!

TFN training is changing my life. I have been working with Erik for about 6 weeks and the progress I've made is incredible. There is good focus on technique to avoid injuries and speed progress. I started with two sore shoulders that had limited range of motion and a bad case of plantar fasciitis. Six weeks later, I am pain-free, have full range of motion and am lifting the highest weights of my life. I can't imagine what might be possible, but I am so excited to keep improving my strength and fitness with TFN.

I can’t recommend the TFN team highly enough. I recently competed in my first powerlifting meet as a masters age group lifter. Unfortunately my regular coach wasn’t available that day, but he hooked me and my son up with the TFN team and we had an absolutely fantastic experience with them. First our coaches on game day - Kevin Nguyen and Reggie Mouton - were rock stars. They did an awesome job prepping, coaching, motivating, and advising us through our first meet. Second all the other TFN team lifters that day were welcoming and incredible to be around. I wouldn’t hesitate for a second to work with this group again, and if you are looking for a motivating, welcoming environment to lift in, I know you’ll be happy here.

Working with Kevin has been an absolute gamechanger for me! As a novice powerlifter, some friends in the powerlifting community in NYC recommended Kevin, which I think is baseline a testament to his craft, expertise, and reputation in the industry. Immediately after my first session working with him, it was evident to me that Kevin was the perfect coach for me! Just in that session, he had immediate feedback/form cuing that was precise, clear, and effective, in that he was able to provide the “why” and the “how” in just enough words to sufficiently convey the message without getting lost in being overly descriptive. The ability to convey really technical or tricky information in a clear and implementable way is unique and significant! Kevin is also very easy going and approachable, and was eager to coach me at my current level in preparation for my first powerlifting meet. We did several in person sessions but do mostly virtual coaching and programming, in which he is super communicative, friendly, and always provides thoughtful and detailed feedback and responses. My lifts (both form and strength output) increased so much in just under a year working together. Even after moving away from the DMV, I was confident in my decision to keep online training with Kevin!
The TFN facility itself is really thoughtful laid out and everything you need for your workout! The whole TFN staff is friendly and inclusive, shout out to Reggie who always elevates the vibes of the gym when he’s around.

I have been working with Reggie at TFN for about a year and during that time I have loved the experience. I love being active and working out but it falls 3rd after my work and family in my list of priorities. Reggie understood that and was very flexible with me. He made time for me whenever I asked for it but also held me accountable to my goals when I needed it.
I started working with Reggie with no real short term goal in mind other than to work on my fitness. I could see results immediately and felt so much stronger within a couple of months. As I shifted my training to prepare for a marathon Reggie shifted his approach which enabled me to transition into a new workout regimen easily. But the best thing about working with Reggie is his sunny disposition! I definitely need that from time to time!

This review is specifically for Valerie Rider aka prettyndgritty(instagram) who is assigned as my coach from TFN. First and foremost, I have been lifting weights for close to 5 years and had hired a virtual coach earlier from bodybuilding forums last year but recently decided to do some research for hiring a professional coach who really care about his/her clients to achieve the body transformation they needed.
I started my search on google and found TFN. They assigned Valerie rider as my coach and we had our initial call and we talked about my history. Then we exchanged emails and I had lots of questions for her In what kind of workout and nutrition she will Cretate for me that will help me achieve the muscular body that I am after and she replied with a LONG email by providing alot of details. Due to personal reasons and money, I decided to hold off but then started following her on Instagram. I was amazed on how much knowledge she had about a human body and how much details she provides for every exercise on her Instagram stories. Finally, the right time came and I decided to hire her as my coach.
I have been training with her since June 1st and it has been only 19 days and I can tell you that Valerie was focused on getting my technique better first for all the exercises. I never knew the muscles that I need to engage for bench press, deadlifts and squats and I have been doing these exercises for 3 years. As a coach, she requested me to send her videos every day and she is super responsive. She provides videos as well if her texts does not make sense.
Usually coaches just care about making money and replying once a week to their clients but with Valerie it’s totally opposite. She gives her 110% by providing you all the details about your exercises, creates a custom plan to achieve the body that the clients are after and truly goes extra mile to give an amazing customer exerpeice. She’s the one who texts more and ask questions instead of the clients which I found to be quite astonishing.. This just tells you how passionate she is about the work she does and how much she cares about her clients to reach their goals.
I am so lucky to find her and I am sure the rest of the TFN staff are also like that. I am excited of our journey together and it’s already to a good start. In 19 days, I’ve learned so much knowledge about the exercises that I never had it for 5 years and have also seen some smal difference in my body. If uou truly want to experience a coach who cares about his/her clients, look no further and call TFN. I am sure the rest of the coaches over there are the same like Valerie Rider.

I trained with Elliott White at TFN for about three years and only have good things to say. I came into TFN weighing about 145 lbs and within two years, gained 30 lbs mostly in muscle mass, which was the goal. Elliott White is a patient and very knowledgeable trainer and taught me the sport of Olympic weightlifting from scratch. I started off struggling to snatch 65 lbs due to a lack in technique, but left TFN with a 220 lb snatch, which is a huge milestone for me.

I have been working with Erik for only a few weeks. In that short time he has taught me improvements to my lifting technique that I wish I had know decades ago (certainly I would have avoided many injuries and would have hit many of the performance goals that I missed). Erik has a methodical approach and attention to detail for building foundational movements and good habits. It is perhaps most impressive that he has been able to modulate between effectively teaching both me (a 40+ male interested in the scientific details of technique) and teaching my children (a teen and pre-teen with entirely different motivations and interests). As a whole, TFN is a no ego gym for learning excellent technique and enjoying the process.

I have been working with TFN since December of 2019, over the past 6 months it has been the most successful and long standing workout routines that I have had. My trainer is Valerie, however all the trainers have been friendly and supportive. The first time I met Valerie we did not workout at all, but had a conversation where she explained that we needed to find the workout, schedule, and goals that would work for me so that I could build consistent healthy habits. When I started in December there were in person one-on-one training sessions at the gym, where I learned the proper techniques and form multiple times a week. After we learned enough to create a clear plan for me to workout on my own, we tracked my daily progress through online work-out plans with pictures and videos, with weekly in person training sessions. This workout-plan was tailored not just to me, but also to my real life limitations, such as which gym I could or would be consistently able to go to and the equipment available there. This is what worked for me and my schedule, and showed me the best continuous results. The communication was great, and options were always explored to make sure I was getting the best work-out I could be. One week I had to travel a few days for business, Valerie created a completely new routine for the hotel’s gym based only off of the hotel’s website pictures, which allowed me to continue progress and continue to build the healthy habit of working out while traveling. Since the Covid-19 outbreak the physical TFN location has been closed, however I have still been able to continue my progress through virtual training sessions where I work-out from home while video conferencing with Valerie. Like the previous gym work-out routines, these in-home work-outs have been tailored to what I have available to me, and what I can consistently do. While these virtual work-out sessions are vastly different from the ones in the gym, the level of attention and support I have been given has remained at its previously high levels.

I started my journey at TFN about a year and half ago, and at that time, I was not able to commit to it. A few months ago, I rejoined TFN, and this time around, I have been more committed than ever. COVID-19 really gave me a new perspective on the importance of being healthy; however, I used to think being healthy was just cardio; but after training consistently at TFN for about 5 months now, I believe that strength training the the key to long term success. What sets TFN apart is the personal attention and super untraditional approach to training. My trainer Reggie is super focused on my overall growth, and I am learning that even little minor things makes the workout completely different. Strength training has changed my body shape and I am able to fit into clothes that I haven’t worn in like 9 years, and that’s an accomplishment. I highly recommend Reggie as a trainer, he is fun and witty, but he will work you to your fullest potential. He has changed my views about weight lifting. I never pictured myself being able to do a perfect push-up, and I am on my way to accomplishing that. Do not look anywhere else other than TFN if you are looking for long term true results driven and non-fad training.

I've been working with Kevin at TFN for a year now and it has been such a great experience. Kevin has helped me dial in my powerlifting technique and helped me lose weight. I feel as if he is with me on my powerlifting journey every step of the way. He's always available to me whether it's via text, phone call, or in person sessions.
My in person experience at TFN has always been positive. The staff is always personable and everyone speaks to you when you are there. The atmosphere is great and the facility is clean. Overall TFN is a great place to take your fitness journey to the next level.

I've been working with Reggie from TFN training for about 3.5 months now and I couldn't be happier. TFN is an amazing business with a great staff, and Reggie is the best trainer I could have asked for. I do both in person sessions and the virtual training. Reggie has really helped me nail down the details of my form during the in person sessions, while creating a detailed workout plan for me through the virtual sessions while also providing good feedback on my form through the videos I send.
If you're looking to start personal training I really recommend TFN, I've managed to accomplish my fitness goals through their instruction and coaching.

TFN Trainer, Kevin, helped me to avoid surgery on my knee through strength training and to walk more confidently, especially up and down stairs. As an older woman, I became aware of muscles I did not know I had. I really liked the way the Zoom sessions were individualized to meet my needs. This was my first experience with a trainer and I appreciate the range of suggested activities using things I had around the house. Kudos to Kevin and the TFN team for looking out for senior citizens!

I've been using Kevin Nguyen as my powerlifting coach since March 2020. Not only has he helped me with my lifts, but he has also helped me with diet and nutrition! He was gotten be to lighter weight, AND helped me lift heavier (my original goal) for squat, bench, deadlift and more.
He's super professional, caring, and passionate about what he does. He always responds to my needs, talks me through my programs, listens to my problems, and gives me a good understanding of the plan for each training block. He's a good listener and modifies the program as needed whether it be b/c you're hurt or you're just simply busy. Communication is key in a coach/client relationship and Kevin is able to, 110%, fulfill this requirement.
If you want to see results with not only your lifts, but your overall health and yourself then, I'd 10/10 recommend reaching out to Kevin! You're missing out if you don't!

I have been going to TFN and working with Reggie for over a month now, and I cannot overstate how good of an experience it has been. Prior to TFN, I had zero knowledge about how to properly perform any weightlifting exercises, and had not been to the gym in a decade.
Fortunately for me, Reggie is an encyclopedia of weightlifting knowledge, and was able to show me how to properly perform an exercise, while at the same time explaining why it is done that way in order to get the most out of the movement. In a little over a month, through a combination of in-person and virtual coaching from Reggie, I went from having no idea what I was doing in the gym, to being confident in my established gym routine while actually looking forward to it, which is certainly a change in mindset for me. I’m definitely looking forward to the months to come.
About TFN in general: the facility is well-equipped, clean, and you can tell that the staff (including the dogs) genuinely enjoy what they do.
In sum, TFN is fantastic, Reggie is a great trainer, and if you’re thinking about taking the first step, I would encourage you to do so.

Training with Mike Pacheco at TFN has been an amazing experience. For years, I had struggled with figuring out how to lift safely and progress to heavier weights. Although I watched YouTube videos on proper technique, I still ended up developing injuries.
But when I started training with Mike about a year ago, he quickly fixed my form on deadlifts, squats, and bench press. I soon started doing these movements without getting injured and hit several new PRs. Mike is a great teacher, he is patient, but also knows how to push my limits safely too. I have consistently trained with Mike for almost a year now and have really enjoyed learning from him. The rest of the TFN staff are also really friendly. The gym has a really cool culture and is a very relaxing environment. I highly recommend Mike and TFN.

Update: Kyori is an excellent massage therapist. I've had 3 massages now and she is my new all time favorite masseuse. Good location, excellent price and high quality - everything I want!
Justine has been my trainer for the last 6 months. I've been very happy with her plan for getting me into shape. I'm 49 and a mother of 3 teenagers. I was not overweight but neither was I fit. I know I've gained a lot of muscle in the last 6 months. I work with Justine twice a week. I no longer have back pain and my doctor is pleased with my progress. Justine listens to me. She is very encouraging. We had to switch to virtual training in March 2020 and we never missed a step. Justine has the flexibility to adjust the plan under less than ideal circumstances. I highly recommend her guidance and care.

I am fortunate enough to have worked with Reggie Mouton. Reggie has made a huge impact on my young powerlifting career. Not only has he helped increase my numbers, he has helped with my understanding of the movements and programming. He has made it super simple for me to understand by relating lifting to life. He is extremely knowledgeable and knows how to get information out in the best possible way. Reggie has not only been a good powerlifting coach, but a good life coach and friend.

Had the opportunity to work with Kevin Nguyen with my squat technique and bracing. Went in with a pretty bad patella injury that caused me to not be able to squat at all or do any basic living activities without feeling a sharp pain in my knee.
During the hour long session with Kevin, he put me through drills that would help strengthen my ankles as well as any imbalances in my legs. He also corrected how my footing was, how to pull down my ribs/brace my core, and fixed up my tempo for the lift. Within the hour of being there, I went in with a sharp pain and left feeling completely healthy again. On top of that, Kevin gave me drills to help continue my rehab and get me back on the platform.
I can't recommend Kevin enough. He's an incredible coach and an even better person. I loved the opportunity to work with him and he once again proved why he's one of the elite coaches in the nation. If you are serious about your progress and training, go with Kevin and TFN.

I have been working with a TFN trainer (the amazing Kevin Nguyen) for the past three months or so. I was initially hesitant to work with a trainer. In order to relieve back pain while running/walking, I had already tried a number of specialists, including physical therapists, but relief was always temporary. However, from the first virtual meeting with Kevin, I knew TFN’s approach was different.
First, the training session/exercises are uniquely tailored to the client’s needs. Kevin listened to what my end goal was – to walk/run without pain. He asked insightful /knowledgeable questions about my injury to better structure my recovery plan. Additionally, the trainers are fully dedicated to their clients’ success. In the one-on-one Skype sessions, Kevin walked through each of the exercises with me in detail, emphasizing correct form for best results. When not in a virtual session, Kevin checked in regularly via What’s App to keep me motivated. Whenever I reached out to him for advice, he was always-always available and happy to chat.
The proof is always in the pudding, as they say. After eight weeks of specialized strength training I am running pain free once again. TFN gets five solid stars for the knowledge, expertise and exceptional dedication

I have been working with Valerie Rider for about a month now. Valerie, truly is a wealth of knowledge. She explains every exercise in ways that are easy to understand. She is attentive, patient and a great personal trainer. We have been meeting virtually through Google Hangout (similar to Zoom/Skype) twice a week and she is always available through text or email. I do not own a barbell or much fancy gym equipment and with the pandemic closing gyms I thought it wouldn’t make sense to hire a trainer now. Fortunately, Valerie took in to account all the fitness items I have at home (resistance bands, kettle bells, sand bags, etc.) and created a workout program using the items I have available. As a veteran, motivation is key to a successful life style change, Valerie provides that motivation in spades. I highly recommend training with Valerie!

TFN has made the biggest difference of anything fitness-related that I have ever tried. You name it, I’ve probably tried it (or at least considered it): Orange Theory, Bodybuilding.com, Youtube, and random programs I have found online. I was tired of trying hard without feeling or seeing any results, so I began looking into personal training. I saw all of the great reviews for TFN and was a little intimidated by the powerlifting tilt to the gym, but I signed up for information anyway. Elliot, the owner, called me within hours of me submitting my request for my information. He took the time to talk through my fitness goals and immediately made me feel comfortable. He paired me with Valerie Rider based upon my needs- and did he make a great choice. Valerie is kind, attentive, knowledgable (check out all her certifications, she has many), patient, and dedicated. When I hit a goal I had never been able to before because of her careful and precise program she had created for me (she always checks to see what I can work on- it is a targeted and informed program she creates and tweaks), she celebrated with me and tried to give me all the glory- but I couldn’t have done it without her.
Now that we are all at home self-isolating, I have felt no loss in gains nor attention from Valerie. I love that she has created a program for me based upon my needs and what I have at home. The virtual live sessions are really helpful for correcting form and checking in, and honestly, feel exactly like our in-person sessions. I am grateful for her attention and dedication not just now, but especially at this moment. I don’t want to revert any of the gains I have made already, and Valerie has done an incredible job at helping me continue to improve. I have more energy, more muscle definition, am more dedicated than ever before, and overall feel better. I look forward to working with her for many years to come.

I’ve been seeing a personal training coach and nutrition coach at TFN for almost 2 years now and it’s really changed my life for the better. Before, I was really struggling with motivating myself to eat better and to exercise more. TFN has given me the encouragement and one-on-one attention that I’ve needed in order to fully commit myself to becoming the healthier version of myself that I want to be. They have also been really helpful by offering virtual coaching/training during all the stay-at-home orders during COVID-19. I tried to do at-home workouts on YouTube, but I found myself not having the drive to push myself fully and I wasn’t sure if I was doing the movements effectively or correctly. With virtual coaching, I can still get the one-on-one attention that I need while also feeling encouraged and motivated. I’m so grateful that I can stay connected with my trainer Justine Chang and nutrition coach Sarah Jones during this time, and they have helped me so much.

I had been trying to lean out my body for the past two years with little to no long-lasting results. After finding TFN on Google, I immediately contacted Sarah, the nutritionist, to see if she would work with me in my remaining days home from college during my winter break. Sarah responded to my email quickly and formulated a plan to help me reach my personal goals, which in my case was fat loss. From January (when I started working with her) to March, I could visibly see my body changing and leaning out. The best part about it is that I did the online training program, since I am a UVA student and couldn't travel to Northern VA once a week, and her nutrition plan and check ins still enabled me to lose weight! She checked in on me weekly, working around my schedule and setting weekly goals for me to accomplish. The results are long lasting and very visible and Sarah did an awesome job helping me out! I would recommend to anyone looking to lose weight and get healthier by fixing their diet!

Valerie Rider has been training me for nearly a year and a half at TFN Training, and we made the seamless transition to live, in-person virtual training after the pandemic began. I've kept the same 3 times per week schedule throughout all of this, which has helped me stay feeling healthy and focused. My work with TFN has been particularly helpful because it's completely personalized to my abilities, and I've developed more strength to enable me to take longer walks, do more challenging hikes, and resolve back pains caused by too much sedentary time. I value my time with Valerie because I feel I've achieved what I didn't think I could, and at my age, building muscle mass is critical.

This place is filled with people who are so welcoming, open, and friendly. It really feels like a family type environment every time I go in for a visit. I wanted to take my powerlifting to the next level by getting a coach. I've been with my coach, Kevin Nguyen, for about 7 months, and I have significantly improved in terms of strength and technique. He's very responsive and supportive, whether you're having a hard time with a specific exercise or even with anything going on in your personal life. He tailors your programming for your needs and exercise frequency. He sees every detail that you may not notice immediately when recording lifts, and provides you detailed information on how to improve. He's a pure professional when it comes to powerlifting coaching, diet, and exercise. If you want to take your powerlifting to the next level, I would 100% recommend Kevin at TFN Training.

I've been training with Justine twice a week and had a nutritional consultation with Max once a month for the past 3 years.
I had never done any strength training or weight lifting before, but the setting was very welcoming to beginners. By the time of the COVID-19 shutdown I was doing sets of 10 at ~155lb squat, a 110 lb bench and a 185lb deadlift. I also experienced slow but steady weight lose over this time.
After the shutdown I continued weekly virtual sessions with Justine over WhatsApp focusing mostly on body-weight workouts. I continued to lose weight during the shutdown. The virtual workouts also helped provide some structure to the weeks of self-isolation.
I recommend TFN to people who want to try out power lifting. I also recommend their virtual training sessions if you're stuck at how during a shutdown

I’ve been lifting weights and consistently going to the gym for over 15 years and powerlifting for 5. I never could have imagined how much more room there was to improve when I signed up for personal training at TFN.
Working with Kevin Nguyen (both in person and virtually) for the past 1.5 years has been an absolutely mind blowing experience. He was able to fix my terrible squat technique in our first 45 minute session and led to massive growth in not only my squat, bench, and deadlift numbers and technique, but also made me an all around better athlete.
The coaches at TFN truly are a great team. When I signed up for my first powerlifting meet, all the coaches at TFN showed up to guide me and other TFN athletes through the process. I have never felt more comfortable in what could have been a tremendously intimidating process.
My only regret is not overcoming my stubbornness and signing up with TFN sooner in my lifting career. If you’re even in the slightest considering personal training, just do it! I cannot recommend TFN enough.

The trainers and staff at TFN are nothing short of phenomenal! I have worked with both Kyle Paxton for physical therapy and Kevin Nguyen for weight training.
(Spoiler before I start: This place is AMAZING!)
As a competitive diver I have been hopping around from physical therapists for a long time, trying to find someone who could appropriately address my back and knee issues. Surprisingly, I found TFN when I didn’t have these problems and instead was dealing with BPPV (which causes dizziness and vertigo). I worked with Kyle to help retrain my vestibular system and get me back on track to dive. Kyle always explained what was going on, what he was doing, and above all else, always made me feel comfortable. My dad and I ended up referring to Kyle as the “magic man” because after he helped get rid of my BPPV, he also helped address issues with my knees and back that had been reoccurring for years. Sometimes we’d run into issues when my athletic background of flipping and spinning everywhere would prevent the typical PT exercises from working. But not to fear, Kyle was always up to the challenge and went out of his way to create new drills and/or exercises! I was truly blown away by his knowledge and adaptivity during my time with him and have found him as a very helpful resource every time an issue arises.
In the fall of 2019 I began working with Kevin. I remember being so nervous to start weight training, since I had absolutely no prior experience. But, all of those fears were completely diminished the second I walked in and met him. Kevin is one of the kindest people I have ever met and not only made me feel comfortable to be there, but excited to wake up at 5am on a school day to go workout! With everything I did, Kevin would explain the drill and always went above and beyond with ensuring I understood both the exercise as well it’s purpose. He is an incredible motivator and as someone who is just now finishing up high school, he has been and even more incredible mentor. I have shared so many laughs with Kevin and truly feel like he has an unmatched ability to create an environment in which his clients can learn, grow, and get stronger!
My overall experience at TFN has been an easy 11/10 (if not more!). When I would come in, everyone would always be smiling and would always say hi. The welcoming atmosphere found at TFN is truly unmatched. Every time my friend mentions an injury or need of one of the many services that TFN provides, I am always quick to point them towards this amazing group of people. You truly would be doing yourself a disservice by choosing to go anywhere else that isn’t True Fitness and Nutrition.

TFN helped me refine my technique and achieve my goals. The staff and members are also great to be around. Kevin Nguyen helped me through a technical session where he explained clearly and concisely what happens throughout the squat, bench and deadlift movements that I never thought to optimize on or had trouble activating my weaker muscle groups. Sarah Jones also was really nice as a new member of the staff at the time in showing me around the building (It's not a huge building by any means, but she was definitely welcoming and added to my experience). I highly recommend any new or experienced lifter to come check out TFN. I can't recommend Kevin enough for his technical sessions or his game day coaching for powerlifting. He picked the perfect attempts for me to have a perfect day. Definitely let me push my body to the limits while building my total.

For the last 6 months I’ve been working twice weekly with Valerie, who has patiently coached me, a 73-year-old woman who had never lifted before, to where I am able to dead lift 80 pounds and do squats holding a 30-pound weight. I’m getting better with the push-ups as well. I notice a real difference in my actual life as a result. I can rise from a seated position without effort, and miraculously I can sit at work without the back and shoulder pain I had for more than 20 years. I kept changing my chair as a result of body pain; what I needed to change was my body! In fact, changing my BMI, the ratio of muscle to fat, was the original goal. My doctor suggested if I wanted to stay healthy I needed more muscle. I am accomplishing that goal, and it’s fun.
TFN is a friendly, welcoming place. I highly recommend the trainers there and am really happy I found them.

I started working with Jenn last year with the goal of gaining muscle mass, while at the same time reducing my body fat. Results have been great. My form/technique in squat, bench and deadlift went from mediocre and injury prone, to what Jenn seems to think is 'pretty good', but she also has a high standard of performance! Still room for improvement.
At 35 years old I'm squatting 330, Bench 250 and deadlifting 405. Just the beginning for me as I trust Jenn and the staff at TFN to increase those weights by at least 50% each over the next 2 years. My body composition also changing (for the better). I didn't keep measurements but I will say that my wife likes the new muscle mass.
Much like anything else in life though, you get what you put in. I've only missed 2 workouts in the past 9 months (due to my child being born). Don't skip your appointments!

I had the pleasure of receiving a one hour session with Kevin Nguyen for some knee soreness after my half marathon. I learned so much about muscle recovery, stretching and balance in a short amount of time. Two weeks later, my knee felt fresh again and I was back to running/training before I knew it. Three months later, and I still apply all the tips and stretches he advised me about. He's crazy knowledgeable and responsive. He genuinely loves seeing his clients succeed and progress in their programs, you can clearly see it from the positive energy and client support he brings to work everyday. Kevin really loves what he does and you can clearly see that from the relationships he’s built with his clients and co-workers. I’ve been fortunate to work with Valerie Rider and Jenn for the last couple months. Valerie is simply incredible! She is devoted to her clients and their goals. I’ve worked out and done some lifting in the past, but working with her has changed my perspective completely. She keeps things simple, clear, and to the point, which always makes learning a new technique manageable and enjoyable.
In the past I was not able to make a ton of progress with my squat. I basically resigned myself to thinking that I was just not a “squat person.” Valerie took me back to the basics and taught me good technique. It became fun and almost ‘easy’. Don’t get me wrong, Valerie expects your best effort, and she will push you hard, but you will quickly be lifting more than you ever thought was possible.
If you have the opportunity to work with Valerie, you won’t regret a second of it! I can’t recommend her enough!
As for Jenn, she’s fantastic! We’ve been working on building up small daily goals that will help me reach my end goal of healthier and sustainable habits. These two ladies have shown me that this is a process and you need to enjoy the journey!

Knowledgeable and supportive trainers, welcoming environment, great space, plenty of equipment. I'd give more stars if I could. I've trained primarily with Erik over the last several months and on occasion with Kevin. I don't think you'll find people with better credentials or more dedication anywhere else. If you want to learn how to train with weights, go to True FN. If you already know what you're doing, they'll make you better.

After six months of working with Kevin Nguyen, I have never felt more confident in my technique/safety when weight training (Especially with the big three lifts: Squat, Bench Press, Deadlift). Initially, I had approached him due to mobility issues which didn’t allow me to squat without losing balance or raising my heels but after a couple months, my approach to the squat had completely changed and I felt more balanced and comfortable during the lift than I ever could have imagined. The deadlift was another one of the big three lifts that seemed daunting to me but the cues taught were something you really can’t pick up through trial and error.
Overall, to say my experience with TFNC and Kevin has been incredible would be an understatement. The point of me starting to lift was to feel healthier and younger even as I age but the fear of injuring myself was always present. Not only has that fear completely subsided but lifting has now become hobby/passion of mine. Working with this organization was the best decision to make for my lifting career!

When the gym I where I first starting lifting closed last August, they gave me only one recommendation - True Fitness and Nutrition. That recommendation was spot on. TFN is an excellent gym. The trainers are experienced, friendly and helpful. They all care about each person reaching their fitness goals and have created real community at TFN. I have been training with Kevin Nguyen, but have also opportunities to work with and get to know the other trainers. Kevin's focus on technique and training strategy has me lifting more successfully and moving more easily in the gym and out. I look forward to each training session.

I've had an excellent experience working with Valerie over the past few months. In November, I walked into TFN in the worst shape of my life. After some initial evaluation and discussion, Valerie built a custom strength training program that's already yielded results. I'm stronger, I feel healthier, and most importantly I'm motivated and excited to work out again.
Valerie's emphasis on correct form has already made me more confident in my ability to lift heavy weights and undoubtedly will help me guard against future injuries. She's great at explaining what we're doing, why we're doing it, and how to do it well. She's also incredibly patient with me when I'm struggling to translate her instruction into action.
With a new baby, a demanding job, and a body that's only getting older, I could have found myself in a pretty poor health very quickly. Thankfully, with Valerie's support, I'm prioritizing fitness again and I'm developing habits and training know-how that will serve me for the long haul.

I've been working with Kevin Nguyen for powerlifting programming and coaching and he is awesome! I took a couple of years off from lifting, and just in the last few months Kevin has fixed my technique, gotten me on a fun but effective program, and best of all, made me fall in love with lifting again. He's extremely knowledgeable and responsive, and provides in-depth feedback on everything from form to nutrition. He is constantly making adjustments to my programming based on my schedule, and next to my hubby, is my biggest supporter. I can't recommend Kevin enough as a coach and a person!

Honestly I just came to buy a belt from one of the trainers/coach there thinking that would be it, but I ended up leaving there a client.
Personally, I wasn't interested or really planning on getting a coach because I thought I knew a lot about the ins and outs of lifting. Kevin asked me to have a training session with him and I agreed because I thought it would be pretty cool to lift with a guy like him.
While there I went through my normal warmup routine to work up to a heavy single on deadlifts then doing back off sets. I was then told by Kevin that I was yanking on the bar which I didn't think I was. He proceeded to then tell me everything that was wrong with my form, knowing of his extensive background, I wasn't going to tell him that he was wrong. He pulled me aside and basically retaught me all the basics of a proper deadlift form from bracing all the way to pulling.
I was so impressed by the end of this that I ended up booking a one on one session with him to fix my form for my other main lifts. Kevin himself, has a strong background, having competed on a national stage and multiple high level competitions in his elite powerlifting career. He has helped me fixed my form for all my main lifts, it is still work in progress to break my old habits, but I feel a lot stronger and more fluid in my movements. Kevin is dedicated to his craft and has a sharp eye to point out flaws and fix them in his clients to deliver the best results.
The gym itself isn't the largest space around however it is meant for clients and isn't an open gym. It offers the best equipment around for their clients to borrow and use for their training from belts (lever and prong), bands, squat shoes, calibrated plates, collars, competition racks etc.
Even though I've only been with Kevin as my coach, I can tell from seeing the other trainers that they genuinely care and are dedicated to helping and improving their clients in any way they can. Every single person is here incredibly qualified to do their job and I would recommend True Fitness and Nutrition to anyone out there.

I have recently started my journey to live a healthier lifestyle. My coach, Justine, is so patient and enthusiastic. She always encourages me and makes me feel like I can do anything! The environment at TF&N is relaxed and everyone is very friendly. Jenn & Elliot are awesome and bring their rescue dog to work with them which I LOVE! I look forward to getting whipped into shape at True Fitness & Nutrition!
Update: I have been going to True FN since the beginning of Feb 2018, and wanted to update my review. I have nothing but good things to say about this place. Justine is still the most awesome-ist trainer and I'm so glad to have found her. Kyori, the massage therapist is absolutely THE BEST. She really gets in there and finds the right spots that need attention. I also get nutrition advice from Ari and he has helped me lose 15 lbs. This place has changed my life and I will be forever grateful.

I’ve been working with a Kevin at true fitness and nutrition for a few months. His coaching has been a vital part of my growth as a beginner in powerlifting. I’ve received excellent nutrition, strength programming, form correction and injury management advice from him.
The quality of programming and form correction far surpasses that you would receive from a big box gym trainer. My lifts all look stronger and better in a relatively short amount of time. My body fat is being reduced as muscle increases. The highly responsive feedback has provided me with the confidence and skills I need to have confidence in all my lifts. Furthermore, when training at the true fitness and nutrition location, everyone has been extremely friendly and welcoming. It’s really a fun environment and time flies by.
The decision to train with them has been a tremendous overall value.

cannot say enough good things about my experience with Kevin in the few months I have been working with him as my powerlifting Coach via Online Programming. I stumbled upon Kevin watching him perform in high level powerlifting meets, and I reached out one day to see if he would answer a question (which he did). I decided to give it shot and see if he would take me on as a client and ever since then the rest has been history.
The knowledge and dedication Kevin puts forth for his clients is amazing to see. Whether you are a student, working, etc. Kevin not only cares about your coach and client experience, but how things are going in your daily life as well. I like to say Kevin is more of a mentor than strictly just a coach. He has given endless amounts of advice not only as a lifter, but as well as with life and as a student. His responses to my training footage is always in a timely manner and always gives in detailed responses back whether it is to make adjustments or applaud his clients for making progress. He has fixed so many technical issues with my lifts in such a short time with the knowledge he has. The priority is not just lifting the most weight for him, it is ensuring we are moving PROPERLY, along side getting stronger. But my physical strength has not been the only thing that has improved my mental strength and capacity has also gotten much better since working with Kevin.
Kevin is extremely knowledgeable and I cannot say enough good things about him as a coach and as a person. Although I cannot speak on the facility and the rest of the coaches at TrueFN. I do have the intention of making my way down to VA at one point and hopefully getting a training session in with him and hopefully meeting the other staff. Going under Kevin as one of his clients is one of the best decisions I have made and have no regrets. I absolutely recommend True Fitness & Nutrition!

I was handled by Kevin at my last meet and it was an incredible experience. He was very attentive with getting warm ups done in a specific time leading up to each lift. The attempt sections were right on the dot with leading up to the projected 3rd attempts. Kevin took away all the stresses of the meet so i was able to get in the zone and focus on what my lifts. I highly recommend Kevin to any powerlifting/handling needs.

I cannot speak highly enough of Elliot, Kevin, Ari and the entire staff at TFN. I joined the studio a few months ago and have been impressed by several points:
1) The space: At first, I was taken aback that this is not a full gym, but rather a modestly sized studio. What it lacks in comparison to a larger gym, it makes up for both in focus (e.g, squats, bench press, deadlifts) and expertise (e.g., squat shoes, professional grade equipment).
2) The atmosphere: Upon arrival at the studio, I am reminded of the TV show “Cheers”, where one is greeted with warm hello’s and welcomes. Everybody knows your name. Also noteworthy - the other guests at the studio are of all ages and capabilities. I recall a moment where everyone stopped their own routines to cheer on a 60 year old woman as she hit her personal best in a deadlift. I had a cheering section as I struggled with a push-up challenge. It is a warm, inclusive and supportive environment.
3) The expertise: Kevin and the team have a methodical, evidence based approach to building strength and technique. He, along with Elliot, Erik and others, have helped me see the finer points of how to lift safely. Rather than piling on the plates, they make me earn the weight with good technique. We progressed through body weight and kettle bells, onto dumbbells and then Olympic bars, only advancing once I demonstrated proficiency with the technique. In addition, I engaged Ari to help me reflect on my nutrition goals and how to integrate my diet with my weight lifting. All of the staff are available online, which helps when I’m traveling.
I would encourage anyone to visit TFN and take a few sessions. They effectively blend professionalism, expertise, and warmth; I am excited about my progress in a short period of time and hope you will experience the same.

Through positive word of mouth I found myself training with Kevin Nguyen at TFN, and since that one day I have had him as my coach and never felt better. Within a few weeks he fixed knee pain I had been having for months when squatting (along with hitting a PR!). As well as that he has lead me down a path to become not only the best powerlifter I can be, but the best person. Every time I train at TFN it is better than the last and I can not wait for the days to come. Best decision I have ever made!

Man, where do I begin? I have had numerous great experiences with Kevin Nguyen at TFN. He has an extremely broad knowledge base in exercise, fitness, and nutrition. He’s trained individuals ranging from 8 years of age to 72 years old. He’s also trained individuals of various skill levels from beginners to professional athletes (football, volleyball, and baseball). He’s great if you’re looking to get into fitness for the first time or get better at your individual sport(s).
I’ve gone to Kevin for a variety of things including Game Day coaching (for Powerlifting meets/competitions), technique sessions (Squat, Bench, Deadlift), and for advice relating to nutrition. He has exceeded my expectations in everything that he has helped me with. On game day (meet day), Kevin was an extremely valuable asset. I was able to solely be an athlete not having to worry about anything except performing. He made sure I warmed up on time, made appropriate attempt selections, told me what and when to eat, calmed my nerves, and gave me the best possible chance at performing optimally. I didn’t have to do anything except lift! He even loaded the plates for my warmup sets! With Kevin in my corner, I was able to achieve 2 gold medals, 3 National records, and 8 Virginia State records at my meet. For those of you who don’t know, Kevin is an extremely high level national powerlifting athlete in his own right, who has competed at numerous prestigious competitions. His experiences have made him an incredible coach.
Kevin also has a very good understanding of biomechanics which makes technique sessions not only extremely helpful but also enjoyable. He is always encouraging and never makes you feel inferior for any deficits in your knowledge. If anything, he reminds you it’s a learning process and you’re there to get better. He breaks down each lift and is able to diagnose your individual issues and how to fix them. Even with his enormous understanding, he is able to convey his points in a simple and digestible manner. As a medical student, I have a great appreciation of this as we are taught to do the same.
In regards to nutrition, Kevin has helped me put on roughly 10lbs of lean muscle mass. This has only enhanced my capabilities as a lifter and athlete. As with everything else, he comes up with a plan and is able to explain the reasoning behind his methods. My muscles thank him :)
I highly recommend Kevin. TFN is more than lucky to have him as a coach. He’s funny, personable, extremely driven, and knowledgeable. I’d rate him 6 stars out of 5 if I could. Coming to him was perhaps one of the best lifting decisions I’ve ever made.

I'm writing a review on behalf of Ari Snaevarsson, who's been my nutritionist for a few months now. If you go to Ari, the first thing you need to ask yourself is why am I doing this? I walked in to True Fitness, because I was sick and tired of nutrition/food being constantly on my to-do list. I was tired of telling my boyfriend that I'm fat. I was tired of the obsessive thinking, and the binging, and the deflation I felt afterwards. All I wanted was to have a normal relationship with food. And in the process of working with Ari, that's exactly what I'm getting. Thinking about your nutrition journey, you need to consider two things: the inner conflict, guilt, and shame that you were programmed to feel, and the outside goal/look and beauty that you're trying to achieve. Before you get to work on the outside, which is the easier part despite what you think, you need to work on the inside. Through mini achievable habits, that you set with Ari, and his immense support, you get an unbelievable chance to experience awareness and peace if you're open-minded. What that means, as Ari will quickly explain to you, isn't that it'll always be perfect, but it'll be achievable. If you're looking to lose x amount of weight by y date, then forget about it. If on the other hand, you're thinking to yourself like I was: I really don't want to spend the next 30-50 years worrying about what I am eating, then go to Ari. You'll have no greater ally.

Kevin Nguyen at True Fitness and Nutrition is a valuable resource for those concerned with educating themselves on the mechanics of weight training. During my time in sessions, Kevin emphasized proper form and never compromised on safety. If a form was executed incorrectly, he would immediately stop the exercise and correct the issue in order to prevent possible injury. As a complete weightlifting beginner, I definitely appreciated how carefully he monitored my progress and never let the slightest mistake slide. As he stated many times, his goal was to build habits that would last far beyond his direct tutelage.
My goal is to increase muscle mass. Under Kevin's instruction, I gained 6 pounds in less than a month while keeping my body fat composition relatively the same, from 153 to 159 lbs. My progress was not only measurably significant, but visibly as well.
In addition, Kevin tailors your workout to your athletic background and schedule. I am involved with competitive Thai kickboxing, and my training schedule and intensity is very rigorous. This was my primary motivation in gaining weight: in order to compete at the apex of my weight class. As soon as I let him know, he factored that information into the weightlifting routine composition. For example, based on the mechanics of a punch, Kevin made sure to include exercises that would target muscle groups specific to the motions of my sport.
As stated in other reviews, the True Fitness and Nutrition facility is well-equipped and very welcoming. I knew the names of the entire staff in the first week, as they enthusiastically introduced themselves. Kevin was no different, being very enthusiastic about sharing his passion for powerlifting with others. I would definitely recommend Kevin Nguyen at True Fitness and Nutrition to anyone wanting to learn about weightlifting.

I usually don’t go out of my way to write reviews, but True FN definitely deserves all the praise.
By nature, I am a detail-oriented person that will ask a hundred and one questions. On top of that, I don’t come from the participation trophy generation and I am my own worst critic, which makes it impossible to stand the fake cheerleader-type trainers and their generic responses. I recently had the opportunity to work with Coach Kevin Nguyen, an elite level powerlifter who competed at prestigious powerlifting competitions throughout his athlete career.
I’ve trained with national team strength and conditioning coaches and professional athletes, but finding a really great trainer or coach can be a very difficult task. There are thousands of trainers out there with a variety of "certifications" at every big box gym, but what separates the elite is a combination of truly world class athletic ability, knowledge, experience, and passion. Kevin has these qualities in spades. His history as a caliber powerlifting athlete essentially guarantees that he is one that is deeply familiar with all aspects of strength, conditioning, and fitness. He also has great experience in personal training with clientele ranging from competitive athletes, to people coming back from injuries and rehab, to people who just want to increase their own personal health and fitness. Kevin is extremely passionate about his craft, and that adds an incredible level of motivation to the training session - you know that you're getting 110% benefit out of every minute. I already had made some great progress in powerlifting, but his expertise took it to an entirely different level. Kevin was very perceptive to weaknesses and flaws in my lifting form and helped me target them all in just a few hours. Although he has many other responsibilities other than actually training, he is laser focused on delivering maximal results with you. The amount of improvement I saw in just one session with him was incredible.
Other facility pros:
1. Plenty of parking
2. 24/7 facility
3. The most clean and organized gym in the DMV
4. Loaner equipment, such as lifting shoes and belts
5. Intimate, welcoming gym setting
TL;DR - Whether you’re an advanced lifter or a novice just wanting to work on general strength and fitness, this is the place to be. The facility has the full complement of all of the best and more effective equipment for powerlifting, weightlifting, and functional/sport specific training. The trainers dedicate their time and expertise to educate their clients. Their goal is not merely on getting new clients, but helping them to improve themselves on a physical and even spiritual level. Take the time to talk to these trainers and be apart of the community. Ask about a personal plan and learn. Don't be afraid to ask questions because they’ll have overly qualified answers. Highly recommend their facility and services to everyone.

Was fortunate enough to get a movement assessment and technical work on the powerlifting movements (squat, benchpress, deadlift) with Coach Kevin Nguyen. I have experience with the barbell movements for a few years now, but in just one session with Kevin, we were able to deconstruct all three of my lifts in excruciating detail. He made me more aware of my body‘s natural movement pattern and thus allowed me to be a more efficient athlete and move pain-free. My eyes were opened to so many nuances and cues that I never would have considered had I not sought out a coach. I think it would suffice to say that if you place a premium on efficient movement as an athlete or human being, executing your lift properly, or just minimizing pain in movement, you have to see Kevin at True FN. Not only was he able to teach while making certain I understood everything as we went along, his enthusiasm and passion for his craft is infectious. The environment makes you want to come back and improve. I cannot recommend Kevin Nguyen and True Fitness & Nutrition enough!

Both guided me through a well thought out warm-up, which emphasized the positions necessary for proper technique in all three lifts and preparing my body to handle heavy loads. Throughout the session, Kevin and Brad were able to correct the nagging issues I have with all three lifts and improved the efficiency of each lift. Attention to detail was very present from both individuals as various verbal cues helped correct the technical issues we were focusing on. No movement was done unless there is evidence to support why the movement needed to be executed. Facility was top-notch and has everything a powerlifter needs to excel in their training. Can't wait to stop by again sometime soon!

TFN is easily one of the best training facilities that I have been to. They are loaded with an assortment of top tier equipment making it a perfect place for strength training and other fitness endeavors. I worked with Kevin, who is extremely knowledgeable in bio mechanics. He not only explained in depth the proper execution on exercises and drills that he had me perform, but went through the whole rationale behind it. After a day with Kevin, he made changes to my lifting technique that would allow me to both lift more weight and lift more safely. Also, the environment in the facility was amazing and everybody there had a genuine interest in your improvement.

I've been working with Kevin for almost three months and it's the best fitness decision I've ever made. He's extremely knowledgable and spends a lot of time (especially in the beginning) making sure I'm using proper form and understand the "why" behind it. He has an encouraging demeanor and holds me accountable without being harsh about it. And I'm seeing results - I'm getting stronger by the week and feel great.

I worked with Dylan for about 6 months via Virtual (Online) Coaching. As a Powerlifter looking to go far in the sport, attention to detail and technical analysis/feedback from someone who really knows what they are looking at is crucial, something that Dylan never failed to provide.
In the time working together we also made an immense amount of progress, both in terms of technique AND strength.
If you're looking for high quality Powerlifting coaching look no further.

I've been seeing Kevin Nguyen since July 2017 and the experience has been amazing. The entire TFN team is positive. friendly, and the experience of training here has been a total pleasure start to finish. Best of all, they get real results. I cannot recommend this place enough, it's great!

Care. Patience. Support. Superior knowledge. Truly wanting to see me succeed. That's what my trainer, Kevin Nguyen, brings to the table each and every time we meet. I'm only a handful of sessions in, and I'm already seeing results. I feel stronger. I know how to use my body better so I don't blow out my back again. I would recommend True Fitness and Kevin most highly if you are ready to do the work. I have no doubt that by the time I've reached my goals, Kevin will have helped me to become the best version of myself. And I don't just mean physically, ya'll. Having others believe in you, sometimes even before you do, has pretty amazing transformational powers! Go. You won't regret it.

The TFN Team really knows their stuff! I thought I knew a lot about lifting and different techniques but Elliot and his team have really shown me new exercises and new ways to perfect what I was already doing. They'll work you hard but give you the motivation of wanting more while making you feel like family after your first visit. I highly recommend!

I have been going regularly for sessions with Kevin Nguyen at True Fitness and Nutrition and he has far exceeded my expectations. I came in with a fitness background but he has helped me take my regimen to a new level. He takes the time to teach me the important things like form, technique, and nutrition so that I can achieve my goals quicker and more efficiently. I have seen some pretty amazing results in a short time. He goes above and beyond with his clients and concentrates on all the details. It is obvious he has a passion for fitness and it shows through his dedication and commitment to his clients!

This place is awesome! I've been lifting a long time and struggling with weight a long time. Having been an amateur Mma fighter as well as into lifting i of course got injuries and they catch up. Been out of the gym almost 2 years now and been training with Justine to get my form and strength back so I can lift and recover from injuries. Also working with Max on nutrition one of the hardest parts when life seems to overwhelm. My drive for exercise is coming back and my nutrition feels like I'm on the right path. I can manage cravings and am eating way better than ever before. These guys totally rock! Feel like part of the family walking in there as well everyone is friendly and greets you with true kindness. Plus they love dogs! so you can take your fur baby with you and work out. If you struggle with things take my word for it these guys are awesome! Justine and Max are giving me the drive to change and the tools to do it and make it work!

Although my commitment to my training sometimes wavers, Jenn Stofferahn's commitment to my health, strength, and training is steadfast. Jenn's approach is to understand, but to keep moving forward. She is patient, but resolute in helping me. I value her partnership and know that I will be calling upon her skills, knowledge, and experience for many years to come.

I have been training powerlifting with Dylan (both in person and via online coaching) at TFN for the last few months. Dylan's commitment to his clients is unparalleled by any other coach I have encountered, and he will dedicate an enormous amount of time and effort into your coaching so long as you put in the hard work required. Detailed video feedback and flexibility in training for my virtual coaching is greatly appreciated by me. Dylan has tailored my programming to help me overcome a back injury, and I have full confidence that his coaching will help me reach my highest potential in the sport.
TFN has cultivated a staff with a wide knowledge and experience base, and I would be comfortable turning to any of them for advice. Movement analysis, injury rehab and prevention, nutrition, massage therapy, these folks know their stuff and love what they do. The facility has a great array of equipment and will meet the needs of people of every skill level. It is a fantastic environment to train in, and a place I'm glad to call home!

Professional and inviting atmosphere where everyone (trainers and clients alike) have serious fitness and strength goals. The staff appreciates the fact that even small fitness/strength achievements are progress towards your goals as a client. The trainers there are patient and properly program your sessions so that you feel the progress and stay motivated all the while programming you for success. I never stuck with a program because I wasn't doing the right strength exercises to see results and I hated the typical "gym" environment with a million machines. At TFN they keep the workouts engaging while also sticking to the basics of resistance training. I've seen myself gain strength and enjoy training which I never thought I'd do. I've also had at least an 80% reduction in my lower back pain, just from training for the last 6 months. I would recommend TFN to anyone and everyone who is looking to become and stronger and healthier self.

I have been with TFN since April 2016, doing one-on-one sessions with Justine several times a week until October and then switching to primarily Virtual Coaching with occasional in-gym sessions. In short, I highly recommend both the facility and Justine as well as other trainers. The facility is clean and well equipped with high-quality training stations and weights (you can see photos or simply visit and see for yourself). Trainers are highly motivated and enthusiastic about their work and the culture of strength training, to the point that I consistently look forward to my work-outs whenever I am scheduled to visit the facility (and it's been almost a year now since I started). Justine, in particular, has been truly great: highly responsive to texts and emails, willing and able to work around my extra busy schedule, always patient and methodical with her instructions to me, and upbeat and energetic without being over the top in her attitude. Kudos to the TFN team!

I have only wonderful things to say about TFN. All of the staff are highly knowledgeable and know exactly how to best help you reach your fitness goals, whatever they may be. I have been training with Brad for about 4 years now, and I am still constantly learning, becoming stronger and fine tuning my form. He is patient, a great teacher, and has a wealth of knowledge about proper movement patterns, strength training and powerlifting programming. If you have any desire to get strong, look fit, or take your powerlifting training to the next level, I'd highly recommend Brad. The training facility itself is also filled with top of the line equipment, which only makes it better!

True fitness and nutrition is a beacon of greatness in an otherwise misinformed weight training/fitness community. They do things right and uphold a standard in proper technique and form that is unparalleled. Unlike your personal trainer at most commercial gyms, the trainers at TFN have a wealth of education and experience. Not only will they TELL you how, they will SHOW you how (there also really nice which is a plus). So If your looking to get teir 1 level training I would highly recommend TFN. Their equipment is also top of the line.

I highly recommend Dylan!
I have a shoulder labrum tear and was no longer able to continue my workout routine. I had pain and had very little shoulder strength and a lack of mobility, unable to do almost any overhead movements. I was feeling very discouraged in the gym and was unable to find a trainer and a workout routine that would not aggregate my injury. Dylan Smith came to my rescue.
After a phone consultation with Dylan, he agreed to start virtual training. The custom workout routine he provided worked around my injury and helped me regain shoulder strength. He continued to modify my training as I gave him feedback. I was pleasantly surprised at the level of coaching he was able to provide by just seeing videos of my lifts. He gave me more detailed feedback virtually than I had received at two years of training at a Crossfit gym. He also worked with me to design a home gym and tailored my workouts to the equipment I had available.
I am continuing to heal, but I’ve gained significant shoulder strength and mobility due to Dylan’s training. I was recently able to kayak and paddle board on vacation, something I could have never have done a few months ago. I am thankful to be on the road to recovery and I owe a lot of that to Dylan.
I highly recommend Dylan, he is very knowledge about powerlifting and will work with you to achieve your goals!

Hands down, TFN is the most professional personal training organization that I have experienced! I've been a member of multiple gyms and trained with multiple trainers in the last 20 years, but I have never experienced the attention to form and scientific approach to strength and endurance training as I have with Dylan Smith. Prior to working out with Dylan, I endured constant hip and knee pain, which I figured was just part of getting older. Since I started 8 months ago, I no longer have pain. I also consult with the nutritionist, Jenn. I thought I was eating healthy, but she was able to fine tune my diet and the change has been very effective in increasing my energy and managing my weight.

I have had the pleasure of working with both Elliott and Dylan for various goals. When I was introduced to Elliott I had been out of lifting for a couple years and kept getting discouraged every time I tried getting back into it because of bad compensations and dysfunction I had developed during my time off. Elliot was able to diagnose my issues immediately and within a month had corrected 95% of them. Not only did he correct the problems, but he also imparted his knowledge to help me understand my underlying issues so I could maintain my new found health of movement. I am forever greatful for Elliot's help.
I worked with Dylan on specific strength program he built for me and saw strength improvement better than anything I had ever experienced before. And this is coming from an a trained individual so they were not beginner gains. My bench went from 220 to 300 (I've wanted to get 300 for so long!) back squat from 295 to 400 and deadlift from 315 to 450. While working with Dylan, he was diligent about constant communication as to how I felt and was responding with my training. I highly reccomend him to anyone, not only for strength improvements but fitness overall as he is incredibly knowledgeable and easy to work with.

TFN is a great training facility, probably the best in NOVA--and I've been to most of them. There is a clear and effective training philosophy that Elliott, Jenn, Dylan and the other trainers adapt to meet you where you are as a trainee and for your goals. They have everything you need for general fitness all the way up to competitive powerlifting. The trainers also walk the walk training seriously, with several competing as accomplished powerlifters. If you want to get better, whatever that means for you, head to TFN!!
p.s. See you at Da Club!!

I love Jenn. She is the best fitness instructor I have ever met. I am impressed with the progress I made after a few sessions working with Jenn, and it is mostly due to her ability to teach proper form while making the workout really enjoyable. Her knowledge and patience makes me feel comfortable to ask questions during our training, which gives me confidence to reach for bigger challenges. The studio is very welcoming, professional and yet relaxed. It truly makes me feel at home.

Since I have joined the TFN team I have not had one experience where I have not felt accepted. I can proudly say that out of the many gyms I have gone to, this is the best one out of all of them. If you are looking for an amazing place that is sure to make you feel better, this is the place for you. Although TFN may seem small it has a big heart and is ready to help you no matter what. I would seriously recommended this gym to anyone who is looking.

Truefn has an experienced and professional training team and a great facility. Elliott is an excellent trainer who will help you learn proper form in lifting and carry it over into everyday life. If you're not getting something, he finds creative ways to alter exercises to better fit your unique movements. Attention to detail in technique is stressed above all else.

BEST PERSONAL TRAINING YOU CAN GET!!!
I have struggled with personal trainers for a long time. That all changed when I was introduced to Elliott White at TFN. I feel that most personal trainers are interested in making money and not me actually being successful, Elliott and the team at TFN have always made me and my goals the priority!
This is a group of personal trainers more interested in ensuring you meet your personal fitness goals than anything else. My work with Elliott has been literally life changing (and I am not one to pass out compliments unless VERY well deserved). With the support of Elliott and others at TFN I am in the best shape of my life and I have become a competitive powerlifter - which is totally awesome! (a personal dream that I never thought I would actually achieve). Elliott is the best coach!

I can't praise True Fitness and Nutrition highly enough! Jenn, Elliott, and the rest of the staff are welcoming, smart, full of knowledge, and very down-to-earth. I came to them to after having kids, and saw immediate results that got better and better with time. I don't have as much time to devote to fitness as I would like, but Jenn helped me create a workout routine that fits with my life and I am stronger, healthier, and all-around feel better thanks to her expert guidance. If you want trainers who will help you achieve your goals no matter what your current situation, to challenge and encourage you with kindness and good humor, look no further than True Fitness and Nutrition.

Great team highly recommend anyone here to help you reach your fitness goals.
