We are a veteran-owned and operated semi-private training facility. We offer gym memberships, personal training, couples training, as well as small group classes. We pride ourselves in creating a warm and welcoming environment for everyone in our community.

Talk about meeting you in the middle, from pre-pregnancy to pregnancy to postpartum, Kati and Jamaal have met me (and my family!) in ALL the gray space just as their mission states. They met me with such compassion, encouragement, accountability and dedication. I’m grateful for each of them and I’m excited about my next chapter in strength and motherhood 💖

Before working out with Jamaal Grimes, I had low back pain and I was limping & had significant myofascial restriction s/p bilateral hip replacements in 2017-2018. Jamaal did more for my mobility working out 2x week in ONE MONTH than my 8 weeks of physical therapy (3x a week) at a locally well-known hospital-affiliated outpatient Physical Therapy clinic. Now I am much more mobile, I can walk without a cane, I can walk upright and not slightly bent over, and I am stronger and I have more muscle 💪🏼 I am going to continue working out with Jamaal, who quietly motivates and challenges me to improve my strength and endurance. I feel better now at age 60 since I have for the past 30 years. Simply amazing! 🥲

Contacting Kati at the Gray Space was one of the best decisions I’ve made! I cannot say enough good things! Kati is a professional who knows her stuff but is also so kind and accepting, you feel like you’re meeting a friend. Her approach is body affirming and focused on building strength and confidence in healthy, sustainable ways. Her flexible approach has made it easy to meet-I’ve been amazed at what we’ve been able to accomplish virtually. The Gray Space is the kind of business you want in your community and you want to support-genuinely good people who know their stuff and offer a great service. Can’t recommend them enough!

I do a virtual program with Kati! I have been doing so for a few years now off and on. Life happens and I fall off the wagon and Kati is always there to support without judgement. She gets me back up and running and feeling good about myself in no time! She listens to what I want to do like lose weight, build muscle, eat healthy and forms a perfect plan for me. She's always checking in to see how things are going. She makes working out from home easier than I would ever expect it to be!

My favorite place! The only place I will bring my workouts! Knowledge is important to me in the gym and experience! Katie and Jamaal reinforce your needs to your workouts! Extremely well rounded in the field and effortlessly creating a space to feel you can achieve your goals with a “we got this attitude!.”

I have started my weight loss to strength training journey about two years ago and have been training with Katie for over 1 year personally and in their boot camps! I have exceeded my goals!

I never feel like a stranger at the gray space and working out at there gym makes me feel like I can achieve anything! We pump music loud and get our “badass” on! I love it!

I am not a big reviewer but I have to let people know I changed my life, gained friends, confidence and muscles with Kati at the gray space.

Super chill gym that allows for you to meet your goals without feeling pressured. Variety of equipment is great and the owners are awesome trainers that provide tips and coaching in a variety of settings (group, 1-1, etc). Very happy I found this gym, location is conventional as well!

The Gray Space is the best kept secret in Richmond. I didn’t even want to post this review because this place is a HIDDEN GEM but y’all need to know Jamaal is the best trainer and an awesome person. I’ve worked with him for 2 years and have completely transformed my health. When I started training I really had no idea what to do in a gym or how to workout, I was stressed all the time, had health issues and didn’t exercise consistently or prioritize my health. I’m happier and healthier now and have seen huge changes in both my physical and mental health. I have a much more positive relationship with my body and I’m so proud of what my body accomplishes in each session. Jamaal is so supportive and encouraging and has helped me so much more than I can put into words.

I have trained with Jamaal for a year and he created a custom fitness plan for me to help me reach my health goals despite my chronic pain. He is so knowledgeable and can adjust exercises in the moment based on how my body responds. As someone who has been regularly working out for at least 20 years I’m impressed by the range of exercises and workouts he creates. He’s always so flexible with my schedule as I work full time and is happy to find times that work for us both.

Owners Kati & Jamaal Grimes of The Gray Space are one of a kind business owners! They go above and beyond my expectations no matter the service and are always looking for ways to improve and upgrade their space and experience! I have been working with them for my nutrition and physically training goals since October and am so please with the experience! Their approach is to meet you where you are and find ways to introduce health and fitness into your life a step at a time. No shame and no silly questions are asked in their mind just honest desire to be your best self! As veterans themselves they offer discounts to those who have served, year round! Kati is incredible! She makes everyone
(new to fitness, pre or postnatal or a pro) feel at ease. She’s a knowledgeable, kind and compassionate personal trainer who will whip you into shape and help you figure out what to eat for YOUR goals!
Don’t play with her though…she’ll take your excuses, chew them up and spit them out. Always with the right amount of compassion, of course. 💕

Kati is phenomenal! I’ve been training with her for months now and not only did I get back to pre pregnancy weight but I was able to consistently work out, something that was hard for me prior. She takes the time to learn what you like and caters each session to you. Would recommend to anyone looking for a Personal l trainer!
