The Hot Yoga Barre is my favorite exercise studio in the Richmond, Va area. Two locations -Willow Lawn and Midlothian and so many types of classes you never get bored. They have the most amazing instructors Juliet, James, Leoni and Marco just to name a few. Check out their new Lagree studio in the fan called Reforme that is next level.

This studio is my favorite in town! I have been to many studios, yoga, and weight lifting, and nothing feels like the hot room at Hot Yoga Barre. So many class choices and times, I feel like I can always get a workout or yoga session in, no matter how chaotic life is at the moment. I always leave feeling energized and happy!

I have been going to Hot Barre Yoga ever since I stopped playing collegiate soccer and it is the perfect blend of strength, sweat, and stretch, combining barre-inspired toning with dynamic yoga flows in a heated studio. The instructors are motivating, the energy is high, and every class leaves you feeling stronger, more flexible, and completely refreshed. If you’re looking for a workout that challenges both body and mind while enhancing flexibility and endurance, this is it!

Within 2 minutes left the room. It is not Yoga, it is something else. What a joke! People love jokes.

I am writing to share my recent experience at your establishment, as I believe it is important to provide feedback for improvement.
I was very disappointed with how my situation was handled during my visit. As a retired Army service member with 20 years of service and now a practicing nurse practitioner, I traveled from Hampton, Virginia, to attend a class. Unfortunately, I arrived just three minutes late and was denied entry. I was informed that entering late would be disruptive; however, during this conversation, I noticed two individuals walking out of the class I was supposed to join.
Additionally, I was informed that once inside the class, I would not be allowed to step out unless there was a medical emergency. While I understand the need for policies to ensure a smooth experience, I felt that my circumstance warranted some consideration.
Additionally, I appreciated the young lady's offer to reach out to the instructor to see if I could be allowed entry. Unfortunately, I was later told that she did not receive a response. When I requested to speak with a manager, another staff member introduced herself as the manager but did not disclose her name. I explained my situation, but I felt that my concerns were not acknowledged, and it seemed as though I was being dismissed.
As a healthcare provider and a mother, I understand that life can be unpredictable, and there may be times when arriving just a few minutes late is unavoidable. It is disappointing to feel that my time, effort, and resources were not valued, especially after making the effort to attend the class.
Given my experience, I have decided that I will not return to your establishment, as I believe it does not align with the realities of my lifestyle as a professional and parent. I hope that you will consider revisiting your policies regarding grace periods to better accommodate individuals who may encounter unforeseen circumstances.

Never been here before. Booked on the Mind Body App. Google maps takes you to a different location in the plaza. Side note driving around there is a tree right in front of the sign. I couldn’t find the studio.

Ended up coming up the stairs 2 minutes late for a 5:30 am class. Two other women were walking in with me. We were all locked out.

I understand being on time, however this is not an easy location to find as a first time class member.

3 people were missing from the class and the instructor didn’t give a few minutes grace period.

I will not be coming back to this business again when I am in town for work.

I began at HYB with the Spark Membership which is a great price for a month’s worth of unlimited classes. I love all of the classes provided, my personal favorite being the Hot Power Yoga flow. There’s a few different kinds of yoga classes offered, some more powerful and some more restorative, correlating to everyone’s needs/desires. The instructors are amazing. They are extremely knowledgeable and assist in any ways they can. Through these classes, I’ve really expanded my yoga practice and learned how to actively control my breathing. The amazing staff and community encouraged me to join Karma Krew. Best yoga studio in Richmond, especially for those who work early in the morning and like to get a workout in before starting the day as HYB has classes starting at 5:30 am.

I’ve been an HYB member for 2 months now and it’s become a highlight of my week multiple times a week. The classes work with my schedule, the instructors are friendly and clearly love what they do, and I love that you can consent (or not consent) to be assisted. There are fees if you don’t cancel a reservation in time, but those policies are clearly stated and the 3 hour window usually works for me. Yoga isn’t cheap, but I think you can easily get your money’s worth here. I love feeling myself get stronger. Not only do I see results, but I feel them when I’m in class. That makes it very worth it for me.

LOVE LOVE LOVE this studio. Listed out the pros/cons below.
PRO:
1. The instructors - I have been to both Willow Lawn and Midlothian, and the coaches are consistently solid. We just moved here from DC, where I have been a SoulCycle/Barry’s/OTF fan for years and I would put these instructors and their workouts up against any of them.
2. The studios - always feel clean/fresh and the equipment is updated and easily accessible.
3. Class variety - they offer everything from power yoga to cardio barre and have special themed workouts sometimes. Love being able to mix it up and have never been disappointed.
4. The staff - I know staffing is a struggle for everyone right now and they are consistently helpful and friendly. The owner is around often and she jumps in to help and makes herself available to chat with members - she seems lovely.
CON:
1. The other members are kind of rude - I think it might be helpful to book an actual spot in class so that folks aren’t always rushing to get “their spot”.
2. Post class cleanup - it’s always a bit chaotic because there are spray bottles and cloths stationed around the studio, everyone goes for them at the same time, and the wood floor is sweaty/wet from class. Might be nice to have the instructor hand out wipes during stretch to help minimize the chaos.
3. I’ve been to several hot yoga studios where they hand out lavender cold towels after class and it’s a very nice touch - I’m sure the reason this doesn’t happen here is also staffing related, but just an observation.

Overall, I can’t recommend this place enough. I struggle with a knee injury and was super sad that I had to give up HIIT and heavy weights, but this place has made that transition feel like a blessing. It really is great for everyone at all fitness levels!

This place really has the best of everything. I love power yoga classes with upbeat, energizing music that helps you get out of your head and into the practice. That would’ve been enough for me but then I tried the Barre and Burn classes and now I’m extra hooked. Still just as if not more upbeat and energetic than yoga, these are both perfect when I need a little more movement. All the classes offer such a good challenge physically and mentally. Another thing that makes this place stand out is the consistency in the experience that you get there. No matter who is teaching the class you will get just as clear of instruction, just as high of motivation, just as banging of a playlist, and just as good of a workout. The studio is always spotless and well stocked with anything you may need before during or after your class.

For the past few years, I have been doing the "out-of-towner'" membership a few weeks each year when I am in Richmond visiting. (I live a little over an hour away.) There is simply NOTHING like it ANYWHERE! I was in town for two weeks this December and I saw and felt such amazing results, that I decided to go ahead and become a "regular" monthly member and commute a few days a week. It's beyond worth it and with the addition of the virtual classes, it's even easier to justify the commitment. The instructors are second-to-none, the studio is BEAUTIFUL (both studios) and I especially appreciate HYB's thoughtful and thorough plan to implement safety protocols. I feel safe, valued and healthier than ever in both mind and body. Thank you so much HYB!

I honestly haven’t had genuine experiences when it comes to the Hot Yoga locations in Richmond. It doesn’t surprise me. I was told this and knew from experiences it very well may happen again but I was being hopeful. When comments to potential customers are made referring to “well these are our cheapest options” when showing interest rather than explaining all of what’s offered and making customers feel as though their not welcome is distasteful. I felt that judgement and perspective is poor. It is only wise for customers who have had bad experiences already to take advantage of opportunities i.e groupons as they see fit before investing into a business moving forward. So, I came. I sweat. I stretched. But the search goes on and I’m certain this company isn’t for me and that’s okay. To each it’s own ☮️.

LOVE HYB. Took classes occasionally over the past couple years and finally treated myself to a full membership and I am so glad I did. Here are some reasons why HYB is exceptional: 1) the diversity and inclusion of the studio. you will find a real range of ability, gender, race, age, SES status, etc representation here which is AWESOME. (not true for other studios whose names I will not mention here...) You fit in here no matter who you are. 2) the instructors are the best. Sydnie is always bubbly and dancey and fun. I'm almost jealous at how much she loves her job! Dudley is this mix of magic and sparkles and sunshine and rainbows and all that is good in the world. Emily brings the energy and jams to the noon barre classes! I could keep going but all the instructors are truly great. If you go regularly, they greet you by your name and it feels so good when they cheer you on during a workout. "Great job, Victoria!" It's like getting a gold star in kindergarten class! 3) Great studio, location, pricing, discounts, schedule, store, and so on. Also pleased with the safety measures in place for COVID-19. My ONE thing that I wish could be improved is the waitlist set-up. If you join the waitlist they can add you in up to two hours before it starts. This is extra tricky for early morning classes. I learned after a couple charges that the waitlist is not for me. Maybe it works ok for others but I avoid it. Other than that- SUPER place. Grateful for the staff, the studio, the love and energy of all the people who are a part of it. THANK YOU. namaste.

This place is an absolute gem! I cannot say enough positive things about this studio.

Studio notes: It is extremely well run by a super friendly and helpful mix of front staff women (the owner is really nice too and stops in every now and then), incredibly clean....like super super clean, and every staff member is so nice, genuine, and helpful. I was very comfortable going in for my first class, and everyone was very friendly and inclusive.

Policies: easily communicated, stated at the beginning of every class, and easily found on their website.

Yoga notes: I am so grateful for how far I’ve come in my practice thanks so the variety of classes offered at HYB. I started with very minimal yoga experience and felt comfortable going in with minimal experience in some of the easier classes. I worked my way up to completing several harder classes a week. I feel so strong, energized, and centered after each practice. The instructors are AMAZING...all of them...every single one. Incredible. They are so knowledgeable, friendly (no snobby at all), clear and concise, and guide you effortlessly through each class. It’s nice not to be in downward dog peeking an eye open to see what your neighbor is doing because the instructor isn’t making sense. None of that at HYB.

Negatives: it’s addicting and you will choose to cancel any and all plans if they interfere with your hyb schedule 😉

I've been a very happy member of HYB for almost a year, but have been truly blown away with them during the COVID-19 pandemic. They VERY quickly sprung into action creating pre-recorded content on a completely new platform, with a brand new, easy to navigate website, PLUS do daily live-streamed classes, as well. The entire team is clearly very dedicated to their craft and their students, and it shows in how they've gone above and beyond. Their pre-recorded class library is extensive and diverse. from 5-minute videos focusing on one specific pose, to 10-minute focused workouts, to full-length classes, and even guided meditation. They have something for everyone, regardless of your goals or fitness level. I am so grateful to continue to be a member of the amazing community they've created. <3

Zero stars, drop in rate $23. Towel is $64. No rental mats. Kidding?
Edit: After the comment on 7/15/19 by the owner. If I show my credit card transaction because obviously I dont carry receipts from 2 years, would you refund me the money?

I absolutely love Hot Yoga Barre. I’ve been going for over a year consistently, and every time I leave feeling stronger. I love how there are so many different classes to choose from to mix up your workouts, so you never get bored of the same old workout! The heat makes me feel so good. They have so many additional things to offer like unique workshops, teacher training programs and fun pop up classes. The teachers are all amazing and so motivating. They are very informed and helpful and I love how they offer assists to help you get deeper into a pose. If you are thinking about trying out HYB, go for it! It is an amazing place.

I started at Hot Yoga Barre in May 2017. I began with the Spark membership (month long) and soon after started the Ignite - I couldn’t get enough of the classes! I have enjoyed all the classes offered. Instructors are excellent. Can’t say enough positive things about Hot Yoga Barre.

I've been coming here since they opened and I genuinely love this studio. I have gotten so strong thanks to this studio and the the classes they offer. It's hot for sure but the heat levels up the intensity and helps me stay focused. The instructors are really great and will answer any questions you have. They also encourage you to rest when you need it and push yourself when you can. I find everyone incredibly friendly, even when the studio is packed. If you're new to yoga/barre, this studio is a great place to try. You'll feel welcome right away.

This studio has change my life. I started coming here two years ago, it was the first time I had taken a hot yoga class. I immediately fell in love. The room is hot, but the way they heat the room feels very natural. All of the instructors here are great - they’re warm, inviting and super supportive. It’s a hands-on studio, they move around the room and offer assists, which I love, it makes me feel so much more engaged in the poses. Definitely prefer this style, rather than the teacher at the front of the room modeling the poses. Yugala is my favorite class, Gillian is wonderful! It’s great for beginners to learn the poses, but also great for more advanced, because you have time to practice and amplify each pose. I highly recommend all the yoga classes - Power I, Power 2, and Fire Glow are great too! They also have barre and HIIT classes. The front desk are always kind, inviting and helpful, even taking the time to learn your name. :) They continually have different workshops, fun events, and challenges with prizes. Classes are a bit pricier than other studios I’ve seen in the area, but definitely worth every penny!

This place is wonderful. They have great instructors and a nice variety of classes. They often have fun pop up events and cool things happening too. I have to say that the monthly fee is hard to swallow but you get what you pay for. They have a great introductory rate so you can try it out before you commit to a several month membership. Last thing is that you will sweat; most of the classes really push your limits which is wonderful. At the same time, the instructors always encourage you to listen to your body and offer alternative moves.

HYB is truly life changing. Anyone I meet I talk their ear off about this place. Ever since my first class there, I have not stopped coming pretty much every single day. The staff there truly makes you feel loved, welcomed, and worthy, and in addition to the staff, even the members become like family to you. I can not say enough great things about this place that I now call home. I truly hope if you're even slightly thinking about trying it to come. It's absolutely worth it.

All I can say is Hot! Hot! Hot!!!!
It's a good hot.
That Lauren Grace, she is a Beast.
She is going to need to do more than one class. I cannot make it on Thursday's
Just for my appetite. I already signed up for another month. Most of the instructors are great in their classes. I am doing the 30 day challenge with them 😮. Yoga has my attention. I did not think Yoga was for me. One thing that caught my attention is I signed up for one class and I was not allowed to enter because it was crowdy. The people who sign up for class should be priority. Marge had good music, and she is the funniest. There is another instructor who is nice she wears glasses.

I have been coming here for over 3 years. The instructors and classes kept me coming back but the customer service is seriously lacking. I bought a visit pass for my husband for Christmas and we ended up moving and they would not do anything to work with us on a refund or to transfer the visits to another person. I even asked if I could cancel my membership and he and I could both use the remaining visits and they said no. The pass was several hundred dollars and he had over 10 visits left. You’d think after being a loyal customer for so long and having spent so much money there, they would work with you but that is not the case. The cancellation policy is also ridiculous and they always end up charging you for another month once you cancel. Because I moved, I lost over $400 to HYB.

I love HYB! I began attending classes in the Fall of 2015, as a friend of mine went to a barre class taught by Bethany, and she was hooked. I love the studio and the instructors are so nice, and great to work with. There is something addicting about the heat - I always leave feeling lighter and more relaxed. The studio is clean and well-organized, and they have a great selection of gear on sale as well! As a side note, if you have the chance to take any classes by Joyner Jones, do it! She is amazing and very motivational. The Yin Glow and Fire Glow classes are also terrific. I am hopeful they will expand in the future and maybe have a studio closer to downtown where I live! :)

I absolutely love the HYB. I'm pretty sure I die in every class but I feel like a better, stronger person when I leave. Classes here have improved my mood, physique, and eased my back problem (scoliosis). I want to say my skin is better too but that's hard to truly attribute. People in the class are really nice, so it's a good community as well.

It's also the little details here that I love - if you're pretty late, management will take your stuff and set it up as a mediator to avoid the awkwardness of asking people to move or make space. During yoga, sometimes the teachers realign your body or guide to deepen the poses.

CLASSES
yoga - intro (beginners), yugala (intro/intermediate), hot power (inter/adv), hot power II (adv)
barre - ballet-based exercises that don't look like much but burn like hell
burn - 45sec cardio exercises + 20sec cooldown. prepare to die in this class. I can usually do two classes in a row but a burn class before wipes me out and I get a little sloppy if I try yoga afterwards.
Teacher trainings and workshops - one starting in Fall. I would probably get certified here if I was still in the area.

THE HEAT
I believe it's around 90-100 degrees in the room during the classes. It can get a bit much. Hot yoga isn't for everyone, so I'd suggest trying with Spark membership first. Do not eat 2 hours before a class just in case, and stay hydrated - drink water nonstop if you are a regular. I think there are some benefits to practicing in hot yoga, but it's kinda like the benefits of drinking green tea - hard to quantify with substantiated research and subtle effects vary with each person.

INSTRUCTORS
I had gone before HYB doubled the number of teachers, but I can tell you every teacher here is not your average 200-hour basic betty. They're all human pretzels, lean mean strength machines, or more likely both with a touch of spirituality and lots of personality.

AMENITIES
- I believe 2 showers and 2 bathrooms with a double sink (always super clean omg YAS). If you shower, plan on getting in/out within 15min or not at all if end of day class.
- plenty cubbies to store stuff
- Small shop at front consisting of towels, mats, shirts, S'well bottles, and leggings (Onzie/teeki).

RATES
- unlimited: $125/mon with min. 3 month commitment, or $160 no contract
- intro special: $60 for unlimited month
- various specials for out of town, student, lunch classes, drop-ins, etc. check the website.

POLICIES
- if you have to cancel a class, do it at least 4 hours in advance to avoid being charged $15. you usually don't have to sign up for yoga, but barre/burn fill up fairly quick
- if you're late, management will give away spots to those waitlisted 5min before class begins
- THEY WILL SHUT THE DOOR before class begins. Get here early though try not to race - I've noticed a lot of police cars waiting on the streets around Willow Lawn.

TIPS & TRICKS
- S'well bottles or similarly vacuum sealed water bottles filled with ice will keep the temperature of your water refreshingly cool. I've walked in with 32 oz plastic bottles filled completely with ice and walked out with lukewarm water an hour later so take the plunge and get the S'wells.
- really need to bring a hand towel, a yoga towel, and your own mat. If you get a towel, the ~$20 ones on Amazon will do the trick, though if you practice a lot (like every day) I've noticed chafing on my arms due to moisture and poses such as dolphin. Now I use the $20 ones for barre/burn and the expensive yogitoes towel for yoga as it grips better.
- if you stay near the doors, you get cut a little slack due to people walking in/out or teachers opening the doors if it gets too hot.... I'm just saying ;)
- parking: usually can find the last spot or so if you arrive 15-20min early, but if not you'll have to park 10 ft away on the other side (gasp!!).

I was nervous to begin taking hot yoga classes and had never done Barre but buying the month membership is one of the best things I've done for myself. I have quickly fallen in love with the classes, the place, the teachers. The teachers and front desk are friendly, encouraging, and supportive. Being a huge fan of hot yoga and barre, it gets pricey when you want to have a membership at two different studios. Having one studio rolled into one (and having the option for BURN/H.I.I.T classes!) is almost too good to be true. Getting in a good sweat in the morning before work, or in the afternoons/evenings to decompress from the day, is the most satisfying experience. Thank you HYB, you rock!!!!

I've always wanted to get into hot yoga, and I'm so happy that I was finally led to the HYB! From the moment I first stepped into the studio, I was warmly welcomed, and I am now hooked on hot yoga/hot barre. With the Spark Membership, I have been able to try a variety of classes, some of which I would not have thought I would end up liking and loved, and I have been able to push myself above and beyond what I thought I was capable of. If you're new to hot yoga/barre, I would highly suggest going as often as you can in order to reap all the benefits, and the HYB makes this easy because they have so many different classes for different experience levels. The instructors are wonderful, love getting to know everyone, and are so encouraging! Thanks to all at the HYB!!

Class at the HYB is the best part of my day. After five months of daily barre (and sometimes BURN or yoga!) classes, I cannot imagine life without HYB. The instructors are fabulous. Admittedly, I'm partial to barre--it burns so good! My favorite part? The community of HYB regulars!

As a former BodyPump/BodyAttack/BodyCombat addict, I came to HYB with some muscular bulk. Barre has elongated my muscles and has greatly improved my posture and overall strength. For the first time in my life, I'm waking up early to hit the barre!

The staff keep the studio impeccably clean and even Swiffer the floors between classes. Forgot your water? Grab an ice cold SmartWater from the fridge! (They'll simply charge your account). Lulu mats, Manduka Yogitoes, aromatherapy candles, HYB gear, and S'Well water bottles are also available. S'Well will change your life.

Memberships are REASONABLY priced. Check out their competition in RVA, you'll see what I mean. Compared with NYC barre rates, HYB is a STEAL.

Take note: HYB is FIRM on their late cancellation and no-show policy. Also, the studio closes 15 minutes after class, making it a bit tricky to wipe up your equipment, towel off, shower, de-humidify, and dress in the allotted timeframe. Though I would prefer to shower at HYB, I don't want to disrespect studio rules.

The Hot Yoga Barre is, quite frankly, the best hot yoga studio in Richmond! The staff is so friendly, the teachers are inspirational, the retail selection is top-notch, and the studio is so clean! The classes are tough, but they are beginner friendly and the instructors are not intimidating. I've taken classes where I just lay on my mat because that's all I'm able to do that day, and the instructors not only let me do that but they often come and "assist" my "pose" but gently pushing my shoulders into the floor. It's so soothing and helps me feel like I'm not being "lame" by just laying there.

If you come to the studio as a first-timer, make sure to arrive 15-30 minutes early so they can give you a tour and tell them their policies. The Spark deal is really a steal.
