I've been taking a few classes over the past few months (changed named for anonymity). I really love the classes- the front desk girls are always nice and super welcoming. Energy in class is always good, even when people are bit tired. I really enjoy the morning classes particularly, the instructors usually have such a great attitude. I've taken a few afternoon classes but not always convenient for me as I live far away.
My only caveat is that l've taken a few of Melissa Shute's classes. She is really intense and high energy which really works so well for me. However, I’ve taken probably 10 of her classes now, and not once has she introduced herself or asked my name. I feel like all of the other instructors i've had have made an effort to at least know my name.
Sometimes the class doesn't feel welcoming and I feel like my instructor doesn't want to interact with anyone except the few people she knows in the class.
Really love this studio and will continue to go because it's so fun, but felt the need to make a review. I really honestly only want to give my feedback as constructive criticism, as I really do enjoy most of the classes here.

I just love this studio and bounce, in particular. It’s challenging but fun and appropriate for all fitness levels. MVMNT has great quality instructors and class formats that you won’t find anywhere else. Love it all.

I’m on tour celebrating my double ACL anniversary and landed on this studio to try Bounce for the first time. I booked this studio via class pass and was a bit hesitant because the pictures on google and the class pass didn’t give me “Black Girls Go Here” vibes, but I tried anyway because you never know. HOWEVER.
Okay so boom: I took a BOUNCE Class with Mary on Monday January 27th at 8:15 AM.
The studio was super cute and the actual class was a solid workout and a cool lil wake up. It’s a different type of workout and I enjoyed the ab & glute integration as well. It’s high impact, high energy BTW.
Walking in, the front desk girl was very welcoming - I believe her name was Sabrina - and noticed I was new to the studio and was helpful. She told me the instructor Mary was in the studio and I can go in there. She also told the instructor I had arrived. (That’s important)
I docked stars because I arrived 15 minutes early into the studio and the instructor Mary failed to acknowledge me as I sat in the studio stretching waiting for the class. She spoke to the next girl that arrived so l said something about it because I thought it was weird. She cleared it up (“oppsie” energy) and then we went on to have class.
After the class, as always, I left my review on class pass and noticed an additional review that made me gasp. Another African American woman left a review saying she wasn’t greeted. Whoof! I can’t speak for her experience, but I resonated with it and rememberrrrrr, it’s lowkey reflected in their marketing. 🤯
Overall, my first time doing the bounce experience was cool from a workout perspective. However, from an energy and vibes perspective - the lack of greeting left a super weird taste in my mouth especially considering 1) I was a brand new person to the studio + 2) I'm an instructor myself and it's a standard to greet everyone when they arrive to class.
Yikes.

I absolutely love MVMNT! From the moment you walk in, the energy is contagious, and the staff is so welcoming and encouraging. Jillian, the new owner, is a certified Pilates instructor and brings incredible expertise and energy to the studio.
The classes are a fantastic mix of mat-based Pilates, strength training, and cardio, with an attention to detail that makes every session feel personalized and effective. I always leave feeling stronger and more energized. The space is clean, well-maintained, and equipped with everything you need for a great workout. They even have a partnership with Bala.
If you're looking for a studio with knowledgeable leadership and positive vibes, MVMNT is the perfect choice. Highly recommend checking it out!

The only good workout is the one you want to do over and over, week after week, and that's what MVMNT does best. MVMNT provides a menu of workout formats to keep things fresh, and 45 minute sessions to fit your schedule. You will leave sweaty and worn out but also smiling and rejuvenated!

I did a class here as a drop-in while I was in town visiting a friend & I am so glad I tired it! Admittedly, I was a tiny bit nervous because I hadn’t worked out in 3+ months but I was able to scale all the moves & workout to my pace while still feeling like a part of the class. The instructor was very encouraging & I even got to meet the owner who was so sweet & kind and took a genuine interest in my concerns & guided me with weights & movements. I wish we had a studio like this where I live.

Have really loved MVMT so far!! One of the biggest things is that every instructor greets me by name. I had gone to a gym for 6 months and had to introduce myself almost every class; it’s not like that at MVMT. Plus, the 45 mins are packed with sweaty, fun, challenging movements that keep me feeling good all day. Overall a great gym with inclusive vibes. Highly recommend, especially if new to the area.

I fell in love with MTVMNT Society from my first class with Niki. The atmosphere of the studio is so welcoming and modern and doesn't remind you of a gym (which for me has negative associations). The classes are super fun and I love the small size. Instructors are amazing and I've noticed that even after a few weeks I already see improvements in my mood and I fall asleep much faster. There is plenty of parking.

I recently had moved to the area, in the height of the pandemic, and discovered the MVMNT studio. And it was open (No small feat! Constant cleaning, multiple precautions of untold effort, financial investment to the max...all for the clients!) and it provided not only a terrific workout, but an opportunity to connect with wonderful women who were equally eager to MOVE their bodies. This experience stirs something internally that just cannot be fully replicated on Zoom. The MVMNT society is full of friendly, kind, and encouraging people and the classes are dynamic and challenging.
Truthfully, MVMNT 100000% buoyed me during our darkest days of 2020 and into 2021 when community was so difficult to find or create. Thank you Natalie, Mary, and everyone at MVMNT for providing such a beautiful space that fills my soul with joy each and every visit. I love you guys and can't wait to bounce or BOSU with you all this year and for many more to come!

MVMT Society is hands down the best workout studio in the DMV. Natalie and her team are experts at helping you achieve whatever fitness goal you are looking to master. They offer a variety of classes that run the gamut from high intensity cardio that torches calories (bounce, bosu and high fitness) to super sweaty sculpting and barre. All levels are welcome! The instructors give variations to every workout so it’s doable even if it’s your first time. The community is a huge part of what makes this place so great and what keeps me coming back week after week!

If you are looking for just a gym, maybe this place isn’t for you... BUT. If you are looking for lifestyle or even a community then look no further!! Seriously since my first class here, my life had taken a 180 or 360 depending on how you look at it.
I went from bored sitting in the house and snacking 24/7 fluctuating between 165-156 if I decided to fast or take up another YouTube challenge which only was sustainable for 2 weeks till I got bored to where I am now. I’m not a fitness junky per say but I have tried it all but nothing got me to stick or feel like someone was trying to scam me on a gym membership that was overpriced.
This is the only place that doesn’t really offer an INTRO class for good and bad. I debated for weeks if this is the place I wanted to be since I heard all the pitches before. But one rainy day I took a bounce class that I paid for in full on MINDBODY and they had a dynamic pricing of $10 off and I was like what do I have to lose besides maybe $18? I took it despite all my anxiety warning me against but I thought “maybe this time... it’ll be different..” and in all honesty it was, the class was close to my imagination but far more challenging in a great way. Why? Because it’s so dynamic and well curated you won’t know what to expect.
So that day in bounce Natalie was the instructor and boy is she charismatic. She made me feel welcomed and all the people in class were very helpful, they told me that they still feel a bit lost sometimes but if all else fails just bounce and have fun, after all this workout is for you and no one else. After that day I took a 3 day rest period and debated if that class was for me, because I was so tired and worn out during my first time and I consider myself pretty strong.... not in the core but everywhere else! And I decided try another discount class, cause hey it’s like an expensive CAVA bowel why not. I hated it mainly cause I don’t care for exercising. But after that class I made a new friend who volunteered to be my fit friend. So I started going to socialize. Then slowly and surely I fell in love with how my body looked, I still feel sore since I don’t take as many rest days as I’d like but I feel all the more confident for it.
If you read pass here, congrats! And if you ever need a buddy in class feel free to reach out to someone right next to you, since they are all on the same journey and everyone there will welcome you and all your anxieties, insecurities and inhibitions since we are all on the same journey to be a stronger us!

This place is AMAZING! One of my friends recommended me to the MVMNT Society and I am obsessed. I typically take the BOSU, BOUNCE, or Sculpt classes, they are great! I burn more calories in a 45 minute class than an hour long Orangetheory class! I must offer some more positive feedback and personal testimonial for just how much I absolutely love love love being a member of this studio and classes. (My words really won't give it justice - the "positive feeling" I get every single time I finish a class is just simply the best, as simply put as that). So rewind a bit....I was an athlete growing up my whole life and loved playing sports competitively and working out but then the "real life, working world" set-in and I pushed fitness to the back burner and only exercised variably when I "had the time". Last year I had my first baby and then felt so fearful to start working out again - I was so eager to get back into it but so worried about how my body would perform. Finally, this past February (...after months and months of following the studio on instagram and dreaming of going) I stopped the excuses and signed up for my first class. I was instantly hooked!! The studio + instructors + other clients were all so welcoming, judgement free and supportive. The classes kicked my butt in the best way possible and were so FUN! Right as I was getting into the groove Covid hit (as we all know). I was devastated when I first heard about the studio shutting down and then immediately elated when I saw the news of the new fresh start. Becoming a Founding Member was a no brainer! Going to classes these past 2 months has been my favorite part of my week - I truly look so forward to "mama's free time". I leave the classes feeling on such a high and such pride in the work we all put in during those 45 minutes of intense workout. Each of the instructors are incredible, the classes are so hard and so FUN in the most perfect and inspiring way and the other clients that attend are always so positive and encouraging of each other. Thank you to The MVMNT Society for bringing this to me and our community - it is so needed during such a challenging year for so many.

This place is phenomenal! I'm so out of shape and I was looking for a place to work out for few months now.
What I love about this place:
• the workouts are easy on my knees.
•the workouts are intense, but can be adapt to every level.
•the staff is very kind and they follow with each of us to make sure we get the max and always being safe.
•the energy of the place is amazing. Everybody is kind and gentle.
• diversity. In the classes I took they were different group age and shapes so everybody fits in. Are few toned girls and few curvy ones, few young and few more mature also.
•the place is always super clean.
Thank you team Xtend. You guys keep me motivate to get stronger and healthier.

I was pretty intimidated to take a class here but have been so pleasantly surprised by how supportive and inclusive this studio is! I thought that I would stick out like a big tall sore thumb, but the front desk staff and instructors always seem to recognize when there's a newbie on the scene, and they make a special effort to say hi and give the lay of the land - and the other folks taking the classes are really welcoming and encouraging. I've learned so much from my fellow class-takers! And as for the workout - it's awesome. It's intense, yes, but it's somehow also super motivational - you don't actually get discouraged by the burn, you want to conquer it! I can feel myself getting stronger and more confident with each class.

XBOT is a fantastic studio!
Instructors make you feel welcome and comfortable in/outside of class. During class, they do all the moves with students, provide coaching on form + technique, and offer modifications, but are not pushy if you do not want assistance. The instructors never cease to remind students to go at their own pace + intensity and to take adjustments as necessary, emphasizing that each student knows what is challenging/safe for their body. With all this being said, classes are easy to follow for newbies to barre, but remain challenging/high quality nonetheless, making new students like myself feel strong + confident even amongst seasoned barre students. Additionally, each instructor has their own style and is constantly switching up their routines, making each class fresh and unique. The instructors are also very approachable, positive, + encouraging, and get to know each student, which is ultimately what has motivated me to keep returning to XBOT, since I am new to fitness classes in general and am insecure about working out in front of other people. More generally, all staff members are super kind, helpful, and transparent, contributing to the overall un-intimidating atmosphere of the studio. Also, this studio doesn’t have many barre snobs, which is highly encouraging for a youngster and newbie like myself.
Finally, I’ve got to give a shoutout to Maggie Laughlin, whose instructor in training class was my first experience at XBOT. Her energy is refreshing and contagious! She made me feel so welcome, capable, and confident when I arrived for my first ever barre class and is always telling me I’m killin’ it, even though my form and technique aren’t perfect. She’s an absolute rockstar and everyone should flood into her classes! Seriously, every class I attend at XBOT is a result of having an amazing first barre experience with Maggie as my instructor.
Good vibes coupled with an intense yet easy to follow workout…can’t beat that!
*no previous barre experience necessary!

After trying what seems like every other barre studio in NoVa, I made my way to Xtend Old Town and 12 classes later, I definitely feel I saved the best for last. The workouts here are fun and challenging, and it's clear the instructors put a lot of thought and creativity into designing each class so things never feel repetitive. Compared to other studios, Xtend incorporates more cardio into their barre classes, and the instructors always offer modifications so you can dial down or dial up the intensity if you want to. Overall, you'll sweat, you'll shake, and when it's over, you'll be glad you did!

I've only been to this studio a handful of times, but I can say Xtend Barre is my favorite place to take barre classes! I love that each class I take is different from the last and I always leave there with my legs shaking! I would highly recommend Xtend Barre to anyone in the Alexandria area!

I've been to a handful of classes at Xtend Barre old town and each one has been challenging and fun! The instructors are high energy and great at pushing you to do your best. They also are very knowledgeable and provide helpful modifications along the way, whether you want to take it easier or amp it up. The combo of Barre moves and cardio will kick your butt in the best way!

I love this studio! It's always so clean and welcoming, and the workout is always killer (in the best way!!). No two classes are exactly the same, but they are always fun, motivational, and leave me shaking for hours. I'd definitely recommend Xtend Barre to anyone in the Alexandria area!

Xtend Barre Old Town is always clean and the classes always challenging. I’ve never had a bad class there! Xtend HIIT is my favorite but the TRX and Fusion classes are awesome too. Such a convenient walk from the metro.

I love this workout! I have tried other barre studios but nothing makes me feel like I am actually working my body then Xtend barre. The staff are all friendly and the coaches are all supportive. Great place, I love it!

I was a little skeptical about taking a barre pilates class that was recommended to me by a friend.. But after the first class I was excited to try again! I really love the upbeat music and the instructors! I also love how the instructors make sure your form is correct and that you can go at your own pace! Now I’m hooked and I can’t wait to go to the next class!!

I’ve tried 3 other barre studios via ClassPass in Alexandria alone and this one is my favorite! They have great variety of times, they always know my name, and the instructors are all great at offering modifications if needed. I work my hardest here but notice results. Will be back!

I have taken barre classes at several studios in Alexandria and DC (and previously in Philadelphia and New York), and Xtend Barre Old Town is definitely one of my favorite barre studios! The staff is very friendly and helpful (even when I've arrived to class late a few times). I have been to several classes at Xtend, and have found that every class is uniquely challenging. The instructors always change up the routine, so I never do the same workout twice. Also, the classes offer a good mix of cardio, strength and flexibility training. The instructors are always energetic and encouraging and willing to help students improve their form. I highly recommend to anyone looking for a challenging, yet fun workout in the Alexandria area!

This studio is stellar in every. very clean, organized, and there is more than enough space to host the class. The people who work there are simply lovely and motivating. I had never taken a barre class and I didn't feel out of place at all. The woman who owns this place is such a motivation as well; she took the time to talk to me and ask about my injury and she didn't know me from a whole in the wall. I will definitely be going back!

I LOVE the Xtend Barre studio in Old Town Alexandria! The studio is always very clean and inviting, all the front desk people are friendly, they don't treat you as "just another student", they actually know your name and make you feel welcome. They have multiple classes throughout the day which makes it easy if you have a busy schedule. The barre classes are amazing, they have helped me improve my balance, make me more flexible, and burn calories. Definitely a great investment!

I have loved every class I've taken at Xtend Barre Old Town. It's great that there's so much variety so that you don't feel like you are doing the same work out. Definitely recommend and everyone is really friendly!

Everyone at the studio is super nice and inviting and the studio itself is modern and always really clean. Xtend is unlike most barre classes in that in incorporates cardio in every class to burn more calories and to get you sweating. I've left other barre classes without even breaking a sweat.. I promise that's not the case with Xtend Old Town.

I am OBSESSED with these workouts! Don't get me a wrong, I am still a lover of a classic barre class, but Xtend Barre takes it to a whole new level by adding in spurts of cardio into all of the strength training + conditioning you would get in a traditional barre class, which I really love!
The cherry on TOP is that they incorporate traditional ballet moves/positions into the workouts, which brings me back to my dancing days and makes me feel like a real life ballerina! They have a lot of different types of classes you can take, and all at various times throughout the day to fit your schedule. All of the teachers are super friendly, upbeat & motivating, but not in an in-your-face kind of way. Very welcoming environment to push yourself to whatever challenge your body is wanting/needing !

So happy I joined this studio! The variety of classes and instructors keeps things from being repetitive and I find it more challenging (but also more effective) than other barre classes I've attended. The staff at the front desk always say hi and remember your name too!

Let's be honest, there are a ton of Barre classes around the D.C. metro area. I haven't tried them all. What I will say: Xtend Barre has become one of my favorite workouts. It's more ballet focused than other studios, so don't be discouraged if your first few classes are a difficult. I can tell a difference in my body when I attend regularly.

I took my first class at Xtend - it was circuit 7. I looooooved it. From the environment of the studio (chic, friendly, gets down to business), to the members (everyone was so welcoming), to the instructor (she knew her stuff) to the class (the circuit workout moves had me feeling like I was for sure going to come out looking like a VS model). Woo weee it's what I've been looking for. An all in one studio that offers variety and has a good vibe. It doesn't hurt the swag (clothes & accessories) is cute too. Without a doubt- I'll be purchasing a membership!

I've been going to Xtend Barre Old Town for almost a year. I started going one or two times a week and left so sore that I knew it must be doing something. This is not your average barre class. After a few months I started going more and more regularly and eventually became totally addicted to the workout. The community there is amazing and even an introverted person like me has made a few workout buddies. As someone who looks forward to things like wine, cheese, and Netflix, (and more wine) I never thought I would ever be someone who looks forward to working out... this place has literally changed my life. And a bonus- I've lost 15 pounds since I started at Xtend without changing my questionable eating and drinking habits! ;)

I'm not particularly proud of this fact, but I never really worked out. I decided after some minor health issues that I wanted to feel like I had some control over my health and I wanted to do what I could to hopefully remain as healthy as possible. I have never taken any group type classes and I have only had a brief gym membership that I used maybe once...I wanted to find something that would increase my energy and give me some muscle tone, but most of all, I knew I needed to find something that I would not quit and that I could stick to. I had heard of barre classes and did some research in the area to compare cost, class times, and reviews. Based on those things I picked Xtend Barre in Alexandria. My first class was an eye opener. I knew I had terrible endurance but when I had to quit not even halfway through class I knew it was worse than I thought. I felt defeated and embarrassed and thought of never coming back. At the same time, I felt like I had something to prove to myself. Thankfully, the front desk girl reached out to me after class to check on me and the owner reached out as well. I never expected that and I got reassurance that I'm not the first person that had to take a break from class, and they gave me some tips for any future classes that gave me some hope. I learned basics like the fact that I should probably hydrate better (like I said, I'm new at this), that I can skip advancements or start with modifications of certain moves, and that I can take breaks if I need them etc. I feel like some of the pressure I had put on myself was taken off and I decided to get over my own insecurities and go back. I'm happy to report that I made it through the entire second class and every class since then. I have been going for about 9 months now and am so very glad I stuck with it. Here are some reasons I love this barre studio:
-The instructors are awesome. They motivate you, they are kind, they are experienced and they make you feel welcome every time. I am definitely on the shy side but I still feel like I am part of this group.
-The classes are challenging but doable. One thing an instructor said early on in a class stuck with me "it doesn't get easier, but you get better". There are still parts I find more challenging than others but I love the variety and the sense that every class is different, but always targeting all parts of my body. Some days I feel like I can take most of the advancements, other days I take pretty much none and stick to the basics, but I know that that's ok too. I know just showing up and sticking to this routine is half the battle. And surprising even myself, I look forward to coming most days, and on the days I'm dragging, I am still always glad I came afterwards.
-The schedule is great for me. I work pretty regular hours and feel like I am able to catch a class most days if I want to and some on the weekend as well.
-Results. I didn't really start this for weight loss, more for health and toning, so I can only speak to those things (for the weight loss I would probably need to target my carb habit more). I feel like I definitely have better muscle definition than before, and I have seen an increase in energy and endurance. I have also seen an improvement in my resting heart rate and also feel like it's been a good addition to manage stress and anxiety. The combination of cardio and toning through weights, movement, resistance bands etc. is just the right amount of everything to feel like you're getting a good full body workout.
In conclusion, the only thing that would have held me back from writing such a glowing review is the fear that everyone will start seeing the light and filling up all the classes..But I'm honestly more than happy to recommend this place to anyone who will listen!

I’ve been with this studio for over two years now. My sister and I joined together and we fell in love with the workouts. It is the only workout that can motivate me to wake up for 5:45am classes. This studio offers barre classes, yoga, TRX suspend, and circuit 7 (which is a high intensity workout). The instructors are each incredible and the variety in workouts keeps my body getting stronger. This studio gives me the opportunity to keep healthy and a barre family that makes me look forward to my early alarm.

If you want lean muscles and increase your core strength, you have to go to Xtend Barre Old Town. The class instructors are friendly and absolutely amazing, offering a variety of classes (Barre, HIIT, TRX Suspend, Pilates Stick) throughout the day, and never repeating the same routine. During class they help with correcting your form, while making you feel comfortable and confident. Xtend Barre Old Town is the best barre studio!

I bought a class pass voucher on Gilt City to try this gym. I was interested in yoga mainly. I wasn't a huge fan of the instructors as they spoke very fast and were difficult to follow for a beginner. I tried a barre class as well and the instructor also was difficult to follow.
Perhaps this gym just wasn't a good fit for me. Also a bummer that the voucher I purchased expired before I could use all the passes since yoga was offered so infrequently.
I wouldn't recommend driving to get here as parking nearby is quite difficult. Either walk or take metro/a bus.
