Knowledgeable, friendly instructors guide you through series of stretch, mat, and reformer movements in a serene studio. Group classes of seven or less provide atmosphere while also ensuring personal attention. Private lessons focus on the abilities and areas of your choosing. After a couple years of weekly classes, I am stronger and more aligned than ever. A class at tru PILATES is like exercise, physical therapy, and massage combined - you'll feel amazing afterwards!

This is the most inviting exercise studio I have ever been to. I was a new comer to the idea of pilates and they welcomed me in, taught me everything I need to know about what the exercises are and how to use the tables. Then they paid attention in class to when I was struggling and came over and helped me figure out what I was supposed to be doing. I love this place! I recommend to everyone! What a team at Tru Pilates! I have been taking only one class per week so far, for about 3-4 months, and I'm already noticing the benefits to my mild body arthritis. I recently helped my daughter to move, and the lifting, carrying, steps down and up, didn't bother me as before I started Pilates. Rachelle has been the instructor I take more classes with, and I always leave the class feeling more nimble and, happier, and relaxed. I was in Robin's first class 18 years ago and am currently enrolled in two pilates sessions and an additional stretch session each week. Also, I have been a physical education teacher for much of my career and know excellent instruction. Robin demonstrates her excellence in the following ways. She keeps her classes small and is able to attend to the varying individual needs. Another perfect week with two classes at Tru Pilates! I have been taking classes at Tru for six years and thanks to those classes I feel great! I have no physical limitations and now in my late 70’s I am able to do all the physical activities that I did in my 40’s. More importantly, my recent DEXA scan showed a gain in bone density over the last five years and I attribute that all to pilates. For those looking to maintain an active life style I highly recommend Tru Pilates. My husbands kids me saying that I won’t let anything interfere with my pilates classes and he is right. I won’t!

I have been practicing pilates for 21 years and plan on continuing into old age. I'm picky, too, and have been at 6 studios over the 21 years. We moved from Denver Colorado to Charlottesville Virginia 2 years ago and it was a priority for me to find a great studio. I found it at Tru Pilates. It is impossible to convey the benefits that I gain from consistently attending Tru Pilates. I have enjoyed Pilates for many years but one year ago found Tru Pilates. I am very active and have experienced occasional ailments like Plantar Fasciitis and Tennis Elbow. Since moving to Charlottesville from San Diego I had not found the type of instruction that I had enjoyed in California. I was frustrated with the recurring pain and decided to seek out the one thing I was missing in this area. This specific studio, along with the extremely knowledgeable instructors, is like no other that I have experienced. I look forward to going to every session and always leave feeling fantastic!!!
If you have not tried Pilates all I can say is that if I could only participate in one type of exercise this would be it. I definitely think that Tru Pilates will help me to be my best and most active self for many years to come!

Truly amazing! What a gem. I was able to take my eight week old to private classes, and it was the best decision ever. Robin not only accommodated my baby but welcomed her! It was such a relief to do something for myself postpartum without having to get childcare or feel like bringing my baby was an obstacle to overcome. Robin clearly knows her stuff and will explain it all to you. It’s so cool to watch her process and feel the benefits. What a treat to have a place so wonderful in town. Definitely worth it.

Being in a group class with Robin is almost as good as taking a private class from her. She knows each of our bodies - who cannot raise their right arm, who needs pillows under their head, who has hip issues. She then finds easier ways for them to do what we are concentrating on so that everyone feels successful. Quite an art involved in making that possible.

So, in my 70s ,Tru Pilates is amazing .I’ve been practicing yoga I’ve been a runner I’ve trained a lot of different ways, and I’m a bench jeweler. I think if there’s one thing that you can do for yourself your body and your mind is to join Tru Pilates.

The single best Pilates studio in C-Ville, hands down. I've spent 11 years at Tru as a private and group client. I am so grateful to have found Tru Pilates studio. I have incredible respect for Robin Truxel for her background in physical therapy and her continuing education in pilates. The atmosphere is warm and inviting and each class is started with the question, "what would you like to work on today?" Her knowledge of anatomy and movements of our bodies to isolate individual muscle groups has kept my mobility intact. Small class sizes with spaces to isolate for Covid has been an added bonus.

I have been doing Pilates with Robyn for at least 15 years! Last year I had knee surgery and Robyn was very helpful and knowledgeable about the exercises I needed to do as well as those to be adjusted. After surgery I realized that all the rehab exercises I had already been doing and my strength made a huge difference in recuperating quickly and completely.

I can’t thank you enough for working with me since mid-January. I had no idea what to expect but now I feel like I’ve discovered a secret that more people should learn. It started when the first question you asked me was what were my goals? Fortunately, I was clear in my mind that I wanted to be more flexible (you know, touch your toes) and I wanted my midsection, sorry, core tightened. Your reply was that was right up your alley. And you have delivered with dividends on top of dividends. I would like to reserve the right to be able to describe them as compounding dividends. In eight weeks, you have changed my life.

You taught me how my height and long arms contributed to issues with my posture and we started working on that as well. After just four sessions there was a day that I noticed an issue while in my pickup that I have been driving for seven years. When I looked in the rearview mirror, I was looking at the pavement immediately behind me. I was sitting so much more thoughtfully and upright that I had to adjust my mirror. The first two weeks I went twice per week, but after that realization I started going three times per week.

Yesterday I came home from work and then spent 90 minutes splitting firewood. Right in the middle of it I recognized that I was bending and twisting and swinging and using my legs and my back and my arms. It was readily apparent to me that my execution on this task was substantially improved by my Pilates training. The sessions at your studio have developed my strength and flexibility and what finally dawned on me yesterday was my movement. If being physically alive involves the joy of experiencing our bodies in motion, then we best be doing everything we possibly can to improve and enhance our strong and flexible movement. After eight weeks, for me, that is Pilates three times per week.

Robin is incredible - My OB suggested I work with Robin around 30 weeks pregnant due to intense sacrum pain and sciatica while trying to also prepare for a VBAC birth. Over the last 8 weeks or so of my pregnancy I worked with Robin through a series of privates and stretch classes and I really believe the time and intention helped me to have a successful vbac. Robin is very knowledgeable, so supportive and full of amazing resources. I hate going to the gym/working out. To be honest, I’m not much on walking across a parking lot or up a flight of stairs. I thought I’d never find a work out activity I could tolerate, much less enjoy. Robin/tru Pilates… magical. I don’t know how else to describe a person or place that makes fitness feel like a relaxing spa experience… and gets noticeable results! A friend recently commented on how in shape I look. That was a first for sure! She asked what I’ve been doing. I let her know I’ve been taking classes at tru Pilates twice a week. She said “That’s it!?” and I replied “That’s it. :)”. Tru Pilates also offers more intense options if sweating is your thing. They can customize an experience for you! That’s why the introductory 3 private classes are so amazing and much needed. I came to Robin and Tru wanting to strengthen my pelvic floor and rebuild by abdominal strength after having 2 babies. Now in my late 30’s and with a couple sports injuries I needed a more gentle way to build strength and stay fit. What a relief to find Robin at Tru to help identify exactly what my habits were that could be improved for better ergonomics and to teach me how to build strength both at the studio and at home. I used to be a runner and enjoy free weights, after leaving a large gym with COVID shut down I was so pleased to find a more gentle and personalized way to keep up my fitness- one I can be confident will serve me well for many years. Robin and Tru Pilates have saved my body! I started seeing Robin for pregnancy related issues over 6 years ago, and within one session, she had figured out ways to resolve my pain (which a dozen or so chiropractic visits hadn't been able to do). I have continued with her in both private and group sessions since then, and my body lets me know when I haven't been giving it the pilates attention it needs. With her PT background, Robin is able to give personalized recommendations and adjustments that make all the difference. During the pandemic, we ordered some pilates equipment to have at home because I missed going to Tru Pilates so much. My husband is now also a devoted pilates follower. I had private sessions with Robin T. during my second pregnancy and it was so helpful in preparing my body for birth without having had much time to recover from the first birth. She taught me specific (and really simple!) exercises and stretches to strengthen the muscles I would need for a natural birth and postpartum period. She also gave me a lot to think about in terms of how I hold my body and hold the babies. She also helped me rebalance both sides of my body from holding my toddler on one side for so long.
