The Tuckahoe location is a great community center for health and wellness. I have yet to explore the whole facility, but there are tons of classes, activities, and programs available.

LIFTERS BEWARE: If you're looking to lift weights this is not the place. The amenities are great and the weight room has what is needed, but the majority elderly clientele make it impossible to actually work out. The cowardly staff caters to this audience as they can get suckered into the woeful personal training options. The atmosphere is dead, zero energy, music is the same as a dentist's waiting room. If you want to actually lift weights you will be asked to leave. Cancelled and will never go back.

I've been coming here since 1998 and I've gotten great enjoyment out of socializing with other members and staff. I found it challenging to find the time when I was working but since retiring in 2013 I've been blessed to be able to come Monday thru Saturday.

Iβve enrolled at this YMCA twice, but both times I ran into the exact same problem. Thereβs a group of older men who act like they own the place (though they are just members). They are rude, sit on machines for long periods without letting others use them, and their behavior in the sauna is very disrespectful. Unfortunately, the staff doesnβt step in to address this, which makes the environment unwelcoming.
Because of these issues, Iβve chosen to drive 8 miles to American Family Fitness instead, where the atmosphere is much friendlier and respectful. This YMCA needs to take member concerns seriously if they want people to feel comfortable here.

Place seems to not know what they send out to parents they gave me a 72 hour deadline on the 12th and as Iβm uploading the last of the documents to them on the 3rd day (the 15th) they cancel my sons enrollment in the same moment so once I had them call me days later they are saying they stopped taking documents on the same day (the 12th ) as they gave me the initial 3 day deadline so what was the point of that ??? There are better child care options out there Iβd skip this one and keep looking

Joined in January, and committed to myself to get back in shape. First thing I did was start with a personal trainer, Brandon. He's been great in getting me launched with strength and cardio training.... he's pushed me to work harder and stronger without it being overwhelming. The facilities are super clean, and all the staff are so friendly. I've learned lots of strength exercises from Brandon, so I can keep my workouts mixed up.

I want to start by saying how much my family loves the Tuckahoe YMCA facilityβthe staff, especially the counselors and afterschool care team, are absolutely wonderful. They care deeply about the kids and create such a positive, supportive environment. Weβve had great experiences through afterschool programs, sports, and now summer camp.
That said, the corporate billing and business center has been a very different experience. Communication is poor, and navigating any billing or account issues feels frustrating and disorganized. Itβs disappointing to see such a great community branch impacted by a lack of professionalism and follow-through on the administrative side.
We continue to support the Tuckahoe location because of the amazing staff, but I truly hope the larger organization takes a serious look at improving how they handle operations and communication with loyal families.

*Parents with children with special needs - PLEASE READ!
My son was diagnosed with ADHD/Autism two weeks before I registered for camp at the Tuckahoe YMCA. Heβs very high functioning and has been in the school setting since pre-k. I let them know prior to registering about his IEP plan and some accommodations we have in place. They made it seem like everything was okay!
June 2nd was the first day of camp. Why did they politely kick my child out the program? First we talked about doing half days because it was a new environment but when I went to pick him up they basically said letβs go ahead & issue a refund! Iβm so frustrated but also understand all of the childrenβs safety is the biggest priority! I think the most heartbreaking thing is they didnβt give my child a chance to adapt to the environment or modify the camp schedule. They immediately decided they didnβt want to work with him. I say this to say donβt waste your time sending your children here for summer camp if they have any type of special needs. They will not work with them AT ALL! They didnβt give my child any time to adjust. Iβm disgusted with this location & the staff here.

Iβd love to share how impressed I am with this fitness complex! Itβs spacious, spread over two floors, and everything is well-organized and modern. I especially appreciated having access to two swimming pools, a sauna, a fully equipped gym, and a dedicated area with exercise bikes. Working out here is a real pleasure!
On top of that, I got incredibly lucky β the first week was completely free, and just as I finished it, a special promotion started, so I received an additional month for free! I havenβt seen such generosity in a long time. The staff is professional, friendly, and always ready to help.
I highly recommend this place to anyone who values comfort, quality, and a great workout environment!

We recently moved here and have been attending the Tuckahoe YMCA for about 2 months now. The childcare here is a god send, and it has allowed me to regain a little piece of βmeβ outside of my mom identity. My kids love going, and it is SO reassuring to know they are well cared for by consistent and caring staff. The play space is always immaculate and the toys are intentional, and itβs by far the best child watch Iβve ever seen at a gym. We are beyond grateful!

There is a good variety of recreational activities and exercise workouts to do and be directly involved in doing in classes and/or on an individual basis, also! The Tuckahoe YMCA staff are excellent and the social activities and family and Bible study groups and children's daycare, youth adults camps and adults, seniors all have activities to be a part of at the Tuckahoe Family YMCA! This is a great facility with lots of room for everybody. The "stretching balcony" upstairs is very useful. Having two pools with different temperatures is a big deal. The warmer pool for winter, the cooler one for other seasons is perfect. Two circuit rooms and classrooms with equipment is great for spreading out my routine here and there.

I LOVE coming to Tuckahoe Y. Tracey and others - but I always see her! - keep it nice and clean. Bathrooms are always super clean. Trainer Brandon has been SO helpful and has generously given his time to me, offering all kinds of training and diet advice! He is a great resource and is always so encouraging and friendly/easy to talk to! Lauren, also a trainer, offers me alternative, more efficient exercises than whatever I am doing. Super helpful!!! I used to work out 5x a week but have slacked since having kids. I'm back on track now! I never used to do the Y classes but a friend convinced me to try TRX Bootcamp a month ago and am now hooked!! Highly recommend them! Most efficient use of time for getting in shape. Lastly, the Child Watch was SO HELPFUL this summer. I otherwise would not have been able to have any time to myself at all. Jo and the others are amazing with my kids!!!

Witness firsthand how the YMCA has touched mini lives. It offers a safe place for everyone to meet up, exercise, socialize, and feel welcomed and safe. The staff goes out of their way to help everyone in any way possible. I Truly believe the environment is lightning in a bottle. You simply canβt mandate this or draw it on a flow chart. Itβs the people in the building that make it so special.

The Tuckahoe Y is great, an awesome facility especially since they've recently expanded. Their personal trainers are great as well, especially Shauntice who I trained with for several months. She did a great job of listening and adjusting our workouts to accommodate some injuries and set backs - helping me get from basically sedentary to now working out regularly 3x+ a week and feeling way better!

The Tuckahoe Y has been a wonderful resource for me as a mom home with kids. I can drop them off at child watch and take an hour to myself to work out and get a hot shower. Bliss! Since the renovations, the facility feels new and clean, but theyβre going to have to stay on top of it in order for things to stay nice. The shower curtains already have a little mold/mildew on them, and there has been no hot water in the showers for the last couple weeks. It sounds like theyβre working on it, I just hope they can maintain a high standard to serve the community.

Life gaurds extremely petty, seem as if they made it theyβre mission to hover over our black kids and make sure they did not enjoy theyβre swim, it was less about Saftey and more about control, the elderly lady even when respectfully spoken to did not
Know how to control her emotions and have a decent conversation she chose to get disrespectful and raise her voice, instead of the staff correcting her they made excuses for her, they took theyβre attention off of the other 20+ people that were swimming and chose to hover over the black kids and made sure to get on them every chance they could, do better!, learn how to talk to people, also be fair enforce the rules for everyone not just the black kids that are enjoying them selves I could tell they werenβt used to seeing kids being kids they are used to robotic like children who donβt know how to play express them selfβs and have fun!, did I mention theyβre were 4+ dads in the pool at the time monitoring theyβre own kids? They say theyβre and watched us and only us for some
Odd reason and no one else! To the elderly lady get your emotions in check especially when dealing with the public!

Love love love this YMCA. We have been coming here for years and absolutely love the staff. The new renovations are amazing. The only thing I can suggest is perhaps some benches for folks to sit on the exterior and perhaps a bus stop. I know it's outside of their ability, but area planning should have the Ys on the public transit route. There isn't even a GRTC stop within a half mile on the weekends. Just my .02.

Man I LOVE this place. Super friendly staff. 2 problems tho:
1) There are NAKED MEN IN THE LOCKER ROOMS! Like dude! I came here to use the bathroom not see some expired jingle bells!
2 ) Many years ago, this tall, fat, white man used to come after me and my friend, Ibrahim. This white dude did NOT like soccer bro, so whenever me and my boy would be shootin some shots - he'd come to ruin the fun.
He would say something like "youre harming other people cuz the ball might hit the elderly people that are walking above the gym" - but who cares? As long as I score, that's what matters.

This location is under heavy construction. You will find a very limited amount of equipment, especially free weights. There are two squat racks, but both were taken forcing me to leave due to time constraints. Also got lost twice due to poorly updated signs. Go to another location or another gym. Maybe it will be nice when construction is completed. It does not fit my needs for now. I'll have to drive to the Midlothian Crunch Fitness late tonight to get my workout in which sucks.
I'll be sure to drive over to Patrick Henry location from now on.

THREE times in the past 8 days the Tuckahoe YMCA kept the pools open despite thunder and lightning in the area (including the VERY dangerous storms last Thursday). Twice swim lessons were going on and dozens of children were in the pool WHILE it was thundering and lightning outside! In addition, the decision to eliminate the Lap Swim Reservation System has degraded the lap swimming member's experience significantly. Before the system was eliminated, any member could sign up for and get a guaranteed space to swim at any given time. Now you have to drive all the way to the Y and HOPE there is a lane available for you. I have already wasted two round trips to Tuckahoe only to find I could not get a lap lane to myself.

The pools are way too cold. Kids shivering during their classes and even the βwarmerβ pool is freezing. I swam in the cleaner pool (extremely cold) and had goosebumps and purple skin when I got out after a few minutes. The other pool is really nasty, opaque water and itβs very cold also. Wildly disappointed in every part of the kids swimming lesson experience.
-The student teacher ratio is 5:1 but they proceed even when it's more.
-The younger teacher doesn't know how to deal with kids that are nervous, she just ignores them and proceeds with the others.
-The old woman teacher doesn't even notice when kids fall off the edge into the water right next to her, she calls my kid the wrong name every time, and gets frustrated, literally throwing her hands up on the air and complaining to other employees, when the child is nervous to get in. Sara has been the only engaging and capable teacher.
-I specified in the entry form that my child would do better if I'm not there at all, but I have had to be in the water to help my own child during the classes because she couldn't trust the teachers.
-With the way the kids take turns and have only one teacher sometimes, one child is only in the water for a total of FIVE minutes (if that) during the whole 30 min time slot. And with a different teacher at every class, the curriculum isn't even consistent; none of them are on the same page.
-Also, the water is SO freaking cold. All the kids in the class are shivering half way through and have purple lips by the end. I've brought it up with several employees with zero action and the last one even told me today, "Well, I think it feels nice. Your child will feel better when she gets some meat on her bones." She's three.
0 stars for the swimming classes. Would never recommend.

Having to cut the water off in 5 minutes for repair. Really? or is that just dribble.

Renovations making it extremely crowded and only a βfamilyβ locker room, no adult locker rooms. The pool is always crowded and even if you have a reservation, have to share a lane, which is fine. The gym is very crowded too. Hopefully it will be better once renovations are finished. The staff are always helpful and friendly.

Before meeting the YMCA I used a lot of libraries and coffee shops to maintain a work routine on my dissertation, but at the tuckahoe YMCA I discovered a perfect combo, a space where I can work and don't leave without exercising my body. This routine has done a lot of good for my psyche and my physique. Going to the YMCA and leaving without exercising is almost impossible, after all, there I can maintain two goals: studying and exercising my body. This has left me less guilt-ridden about productivity and more connected to my body. It would be a dream if the YMCA created a space for study tables, etc., mainly because I see that there is a great demand from young people who are in the school and university phase and who frequent the space a lot. Promoting this profile for the YMCA would be a great achievement for the YMCA community at tuckahoe.

Your facility has the proper equipment for me to be able to exercise. I am disabled and can only use the pool and recumbent bicycle. This is difficult to find at other facilities. Thank you Tuckahoe YMCA!!

I enrolled my son in advance to attend the basketball camp, unfortunately my son got sick and in advance I had to cancel the camp, which could not be possible, they still charged me $40, how does a father foresee emergencies? How a father can prevent his child from getting sick... It's a pity that an institution as large as YMCA has to take away $40 (whether little money or a lot ) for a camp that my son could not attend.

Iβve been a member at Tuckahoe since the 1980βs. They helped my rehab after I got hit by a car and almost killed in 1988. I spent 5 days in a coma. With their help Iβve finished eleven full Ironman triathlons since then. Tuckahoe is outstanding and Iβll be swimming there tomorrow morning. Looking forward to it!

I love they have so many programs/ sports for kids of all ages. My kids play soccer, basketball, gymnastics, cheer and Lego Robotics! They love child watch as well, which gives me time to workout.

I was given a tour by my best friend and really loved what I saw. it's a very nice size gym in comparison to most. It had plenty of rooms and equipment to work out comfortably without concerns about COVID. Just overall a great place to visit and enjoy a wonderful workout experience. There are two pools here so that's a plus.

My son does cross country every year and the coaches are the best. They are patient, encouraging, positive, informative and really care about the team. I absolutely love the YMCA and so glad my son attends their sports.

If you have a kid with special needs, I do not recommend their before and after school childcare program. They do not have the appropriate staff, training, and accountability of staff for handling children that require extra assistance. My child has been left unattended more than once and, during one instance, was found in the public locker room alone. Today, my childβs grandpa found him alone in their office. I have spent a lot of money for their services, not using many of the days that I paid for, and yet when they do have my child, they fail to do their job. They even wanted me to pick him up early today because they have too much going on to watch him. No mention of retroactive pay, of course. This is unfair to parents who have to work, but especially to parents of kids who already have many challenges to overcome. I have tried to be understanding of their situation as Iβm sure they can only do but so much, but the entire experience has been disappointing, and I am fortunate that I will no longer need their services after today.
