I’ve been a member at Tyson’s Playground since 2022 and it’s truly the best gym in the area. The vibe is always motivating, the community is friendly and supportive, and the equipment is top-of-the-line. It’s clean, spacious, and filled with people who take fitness seriously. I absolutely love training here!

I’ve been a member at Tysons Playground off and on since 2017. While the amenities are outstanding (specialized lifting equipment, sauna, every cardio and strength machine you can think of)-it’s the community that really makes this gym stand out. Ken and the staff are friendly, enthusiastic and knowledgeable on all things fitness, and all of the members are super welcoming. Tysons Playground really is the best gym in the DMV area!

One of the best gyms in the DMV. The equipment is always clean and well-maintained, and there’s a wide variety for all types of workouts — from strength training to cardio. The staff is super friendly, welcoming, and always ready to help or answer questions. Overall atmosphere is positive and encouraging. It’s a great community — Highly recommend to anyone looking to take their fitness seriously in a supportive environment.

I’ve never had this much fun working out! I’ve been a longtime member - coming here off and on over 8 years and it never disappoints. The vibe at TP is awesome—everyone’s upbeat, and my trainer, Owen, actually makes fitness something I look forward to. Every session is personalized to fit my goals and health needs, and they always find creative ways to keep me motivated. I love that they take the time to adjust workouts for my varying medical challenges without making me feel limited. If you want a place that feels supportive, fun, and genuinely cares about your progress, this is it!

I was visiting the area and looking for a drop in gym. I chanced upon Tyson’s Playground and it seemed to tick all the boxes, drop in rates, powerlifting, machines. All I can say when I got here is WOW…great gym, well set out, all the gear, seperate powerlifting section, great general area, massive space and the welcome was just brilliant. Ken was welcoming, helped to point everything out, came round and checked all was good during my session.
If you are visiting the DC area and looking for gum to work out then this is the one. I have been in gyms all round the world and this is definitely in the top 5 and ticks all the boxes for whatever you need.

Best gym in the area. PERIOD. From the state of the art equipment, to cleanliness, to culture, to vibes...it is hands down the best spot to get a workout in and take your lifting up a level. I was taken aback going there, it's legit a "gyms gym."

the staff at Tysons Playground made me feel so comfortable right away. Plenty of parking made my visits hassle‑free, and I’ve even told friends it’s the best gym in Tysons when they ask for a “gym near me.”

I visited Tyson’s Playground and found it pretty average for the price. The atmosphere felt uncomfortable, and the professionalism I expect from a gym just wasn’t there. I prefer a calm, drama-free environment- this wasn’t it.
What really put me off was hearing that, after a 1-star review, the gym allegedly asked members to flood Google with 5-star ratings. That kind of damage control is a red flag and shows poor priorities. Involving members in that makes it worse.
Between that and the customer service concerns others have raised, this gym doesn’t feel like the safe, focused space I look for. It felt chaotic and off-brand for what a gym should be.

Tysons Playground is an awesome place to train. The equipment, staff, and fellow-members are all top notch and I have nothing but great things to say about the gym. I would highly recommend them to anyone looking for. A reasonably priced gym with high quality equipment. Ken and Fabi run a great business and do always listen to the members’ feedback. KEEP IT UP TP!

This gym is being review bombed by some tantrum-throwing toddlers. We've all come across our fair share of Karen's and Chad's—can you imagine spending your entire life feeling that entitled?
The reality is that the gym is incredibly solid. I moved here from Manhattan and recently joined (before that, I had been to this gym before during one of my visits to the area). It's one of my favorite gyms for a few reasons:
1. It's an incredibly spacious gym with just about every piece of equipment you could ask for. It's particularly great for Olympic-style lifts.
2. It's very clean. You'd expect every gym to be clean, but unfortunately that isn't the case.
3. I particularly love the fee they charge for failing to re-rack your plates. You aren't a child and the gym staff aren't your parents. If you think it's acceptable to walk away without re-racking your weights, reference my first paragraph.
4. I messaged the gym staff before signing up because I had some questions about membership pricing. They seriously could not have been kinder.
I encourage every person to do their due diligence before joining any gym. Visit the gym for a day and chat with the staff if you have questions. Then, and only then, can you make a truly informed decision as to whether or not you'd like to become a member.
I sincerely doubt you will as triggered as the children leaving 1-star reviews.

TLDR: Best gym in the northern Virginia area: great equipment, welcoming community, and thoughtful renovations.
I’ve been a member at Tyson’s for over two years, and I fully intend to keep my membership as long as I live in the area. The equipment is truly top-tier, not only in quality but in variety. As someone on the shorter side, I often struggle to find machines that fit me well, but Tyson’s has options that actually work for all body types. This has made a huge difference in the quality of my workouts. My strength and motivation to workout is noticeable greater after joining TP.
The recent renovations have taken the gym to a new level. As someone who works out after a 9-5, the new sauna is a great place to unwind. The cleanliness of the gym is also notable. Having been to subpar gyms, I didn’t realize how much it matters to work out in a space that’s clean.
Lastly, what really sets TP apart is the community. The owner and staff are consistently warm and welcoming and there’s a genuine sense of neighborliness amongst the members that you don’t find at big chain gyms in our area. Regardless of my beginner experience level, I’ve found TP to be a great and motivating place to work out.
also, be wary of the one star reviews for TP, some appear to be false and inaccurate, completely out of step with the experience I and many others have consistently had at TP.

I wish I lived closer to this gym. 24/365 with a full suite of panatta and newtech gym equipment, as well as some really cool, old-school nautilis and other machines. I really liked the pullover machine and the newtech row (perfect force curve!), though I didn't have a chance to try the multitude of lower body options. Individual mirrors at the many squat racks. The power lifting area is in a different area with a more "garage gym" feel for a slightly different vibe. I'll definitely be back whenever I'm in the neighborhood!

TP is hands down the best gym in Northern Virginia. I’ve trained at a lot of places, but nothing compares to the atmosphere, equipment, and community here. The facility is clean, spacious, and packed with top-of-the-line machines, free weights, and functional training areas. Everything is well organized and maintained.
What really sets TP apart is the culture. Whether you're a beginner or an experienced lifter, you’ll feel welcomed and supported the second you walk in. The staff is incredibly knowledgeable and approachable. They take the time to get to know you, offer real guidance, and genuinely care about your progress.
The community is another huge plus. It’s a mix of bodybuilders, powerlifters, athletes, and everyday people just trying to improve. Everyone motivates each other and that kind of environment is rare to find.
I can’t recommend TP enough!

Absolutely love coming to this gym with my girlfriend every month. Even though I’m just a guest once a month, I always feel right at home. Fabi is incredibly kind and helpful. She always greets us with a smile and makes the experience feel personal. The recent renovations have made the space even better than it already was (and I didn't even think that was possible!). Everything feels fresh and clean, and the equipment is top tier. I’ve been to a lot of gyms, but this one consistently impresses me. Easily takes the cake for my favorite gym. Between the great atmosphere and the quality of the facility, I always look forward to coming in to get a lift here!

I had a frustrating and frankly exhausting experience with Tysons Playground that made it clear this is not a business I want to support. The staff was inconsistent, communication was poor, and when I tried to clarify things, the tone quickly shifted from "friendly and helpful" to passive-aggressive and defensive.
I was offered a specific deal in writing and over the phone, when passed on to another team member who walked back and twisted as if I had misunderstood... a classic bait and switch move, more fitting of a used car lot than a professional gym. When I declined to sign up for a full membership (something I had clearly stated multiple times I wasn’t interested in), they became pushy and increasingly hostile in tone, even implying things about my character when I stood my ground. The professionalism here is severely lacking.
One of my friends who’s a current member pointed out something else that’s pretty telling: whenever someone posts a 1-star review, the gym seems to scramble to bury it under a sudden wave of glowing 5-star reviews. Check the timing and frequency around the 1-stars — it’s not subtle. That kind of review manipulation is just another example of the slimy tactics this business uses to protect its image instead of actually fixing its culture.
I have been going to non commercial gyms for almost 20 years and have never experienced something even remotely close to this. If you’re looking for a gym that values integrity, consistency, and respect for its members, look elsewhere. Review manipulation, shady business tactics, and absolute joke of customer service. Would give 0 stars if I could.

The recent renovation at TP was quick and incredibly well done! The gym listened to member feedback and created a great training environment while being clean, modern, and fully equipped with everything you need. While the updates meant losing some of the powerlifting and Olympic weightlifting equipment… I believe they still made sure to preserve enough to keep a community going. Love the addition of the posing room, sauna, and new locker rooms. The staff is always friendly and supportive. A great place to train all around!

The business practices at this gym are shady at best — inconsistent policies, poor communication, and a complete lack of accountability.
A friend of mine was strung along, misled, and then blamed for their own staff’s lack of clarity and follow-through. Completely unacceptable.
On top of that, when I visited the gym myself, I was shocked to see they were missing several crucial pieces of equipment — things you’d expect to be standard at any serious training facility. For a place that charges premium rates, it feels more like a half-finished setup than a professional gym.
There are far better options out there that actually respect their members and know how to run a business.

Owner basically forced all competitive lifters to leave because of bad business decisions. This gym was in no position to be getting rid of these type of lifters. Additionally the owner doesn’t even know how good some of us are. HE HAD NO CLUE.
I was asked for advice on how to bring more people and money to the gym, which i gladly shared. They eventually said Olympic weightlifting and Powerlifting wasn’t a money maker, when in all reality their business decisions and poor marketing are what hurt them. I was only there for about 5-6 months and noticed major issues in their business. If it weren’t for me finding the gym by accident, I would have been training elsewhere. Their last Instagram post was about 2 years ago (just for context). If they don’t have members it’s because they aren’t trying to find them. Not to mention, based on who I know alone, I could bring this gym 20k in one week.
I’ve never reviewed a gym before but as a Multi year National champion, pan American, and world championship medalist (which the owner never bothered to learn), I don’t recommend this gym to any cross-fitter, weightlifting, not powerlifting. And if their business decisions don’t improve, NO ONE should go here. Respectfully of course.

workout here if you are trying to be a powerlifter. Otherwise, the gym is subpar a; they don’t have a locker room (there is only a 1 stall men’s bathroom - so no place to change, no place to shower), people workout barefoot (on equipment) pretty regularly and don’t wipe equipment down, lots of people working out shirtless, people bring their infants, and over half the gym is dedicated to powerlifting platforms. They even have rules posted on the wall stating that, if people are preparing for a competition, they get priority on equipment. If you’re just trying to get in a lift, it’s not the best in the area (and really expensive, around $100/month and not really a premium gym). it’s also missing some really basic equipment (smith machine, seated preacher curl, hip thrust, etc). The gym owner says they have a standing preacher curl, which is true, but no SEATED preacher curl, which is pretty basic. They’re also missing decent triceps machines (they have 1 really weird one) and their hip thrust platform is not accessible (it’s leaning up against the wall in a heavily trafficked area). Again, great for powerlifting, but not for everyone.

*In response to the buisness' response*
I'm sorry, but the response clearly shows a lack of understanding of what we were looking for. We were looking to lift on a weightlifting bar (with a specific kind of knurling and bearings on the sleeves), not once did we say that we needed a specific brand of equipment. Moreover, I don't appreciate the passive aggressiveness of your Ray Williams anecdote, not least because it's entirely irrelevant. Ray Williams is a powerlifter and has nothing to do with the sport of weightlifting. The fact that he lifted on an Ohio power bar means nothing. An Ohio power bar has bushings on the sleeves (doesn't spin smoothly) and an incredibly rough knurling that would tear up a weightlifter's skin were they to use it. Our problem was with the fact that the representative at the front desk wasn't listening to us (clearly), and that your website mentions nothing of guests being denied access to all Olympic weightlifting (again, nothing to do with powerlifting or Ray Williams) equipment.

Tyson's Playground is hands down the best gym/training facility I have ever been too. It is also the CLEANEST gym I have ever been too. I have been frequenting TP since May of 2016. It continues to be my favorite place to train.
I compete in Powerlifting but TP is home to all kind of strength and field athletes. Ken (owner) is incredibly friendly and is always updating his gym. Just when I think they can't add any more equipment or make it nicer, Ken finds a way. It's the only privately owned gym I have been too that has all their equipment look brand new. He has an array of powerlifting combo competition racks (eleiko used at IPF worlds and others), several sorniex cages, specialty bars (powerbars, deadlift, squat, Kabuki, multi-use, oly, SSB, chains, oly platforms, deadlift platforms, and more I honestly don't remember), strongman equipment, sleds, tons of bodybuilding machines, a huge collection of dumbbells and kettlebells, aqua bags for boxing, and more.
You don't have to be a seasoned athlete, but this gym is the real deal if you're serious about getting into shape, training for a strength sport, or supplementing your sport with strength and conditioning. Everyone is friendly so there is no need to be intimidated if you're new to a gym like this. You'll be in good company with many national and internationally competitve lifters who are always happy to give you a spot. Definitely check them out!

I purchased a one-time pass to workout at Tyson's Playground. My personal preference for gyms is a local gym (not massive chain gyms like we see most of), so I was really excited for my workout. The atmosphere was really upbeat and positive and although there were mostly men in there at the time, I did not feel intimidated at all. The music was loud and motivating and they had all of the equipment I could have needed or wanted. Definitely an awesome spot- you will feel like a bad a** working out at Tysons Playground.

I just called and wanted some information on an event that is being hosted on the 12 and 14th of Nov. The woman on the phone was RUDE AF!!! I said I'm sorry, I can barely hear you. She became rude and unprofessional.I asked if there was a cost associated with the event and she was just rude. I said I would call back when I could speak to someone who knew about the event details. TPGF if you are going to have someone answering your phones and they are the first line of customer service for your organization. Do not have her because based her attitude I don't want to learn more about your facility based off her actions. #dobetter.

Best gym in DC, MD, VA area! I drive from an hour away some Saturdays to lift there. They have everything for cardio and boxing, crossfit, strongman, powerlifting, olympic lifting and bodybuilding. Also have large turf field for athletes to train.

I love this place! I joined Blackout Boxing a little over two years ago because my old gym closed and I was getting bored with my workout routine. At the time, I had a knee injury that prevented me from doing squats and lunges. Not to mention, I have a herniated disk too. I was very intimidated because the Blackout Boxing classes (and the entire gym) is filled with serious fitness minded individuals. The best thing is, once I got there, everyone was so friendly and welcoming.
Two years later into Blackout Boxing classes and I am now lunging, squatting and doing tons of things I never thought I'd be able to do. Oh, did I mention I couldn't row because of my knee?! My coach Ken Stewart (who is amazing) taught me how to row properly and now rowing is one of my favorite cardio workouts. The instructors are highly educated fitness professionals that will help you reach your fitness goals by challenging you, motivating you and guiding you through your journey; all while ensuring your safety first. My injuries will never stop them from helping me stay fit. Really there are no excuses here.
There are so many positive things to say but I'll end it with this. I drive from MoCo in Maryland to take my Blackout Boxing classes multiple times a week in Va. If you are serious about your workouts then you need to try this place. You are guaranteed to be challenged!

This is a serious gym with serious health and fitness professionals committed to leading their clients to their personal goals. The gym is conveniently located in the heart of Tyson’s Corner! It is a huge space with state of the art equipment and a well trained and friendly staff.
I have been coming to this gym for more than 8 years and have watched Ken Stewart and his professional staff build a full service gym for all ages and abilities ultimately committed to measurable results and continuous improvement!
My teenagers have attended strength and agility Private and Grouo trainings through TPG over the years during their off-seasons. (Is there such a thing anymore as an off season? 🤣) I love the BLACKOUT PROGRAM which is centered on three principles WE LIFT, WE BOX, WE ROW! Every class is appropriately challenging and has the ability to be modified based on your individual fitness level. As an example we have individuals burning 400 calories or as many as 1000 calories (tracked through heart monitors). There is no judging here just a heartfelt genuine commitment to improve no matter where you are starting from! Come try it-you will love it!

Absolutely love the blackout boxing classes. Perfect combination of cardio and weight lifting exercises. The trainers are well versed in their profession that they are able to show you the different levels of intensity for the weight bearing exercises; and they teach you the proper form for boxing and rowing.
They trainers encourage you to challenge yourself with each activity and most importantly everyone makes you feel like you belong! As a plus size person that is golden. I love the blackout boxing classes and I love Tysons Playground on a a whole as a fitness training facility.

Tucked away in an industrial area you would never guess this is a megatron serious training gym. They have a whole indoor field area, then another all weights room just as big, then another olympic lifting area separate from that. Oh and a batting cage. Great vibe, very motivational. Several weight lifting teams meet there and you'll always see lots of coaching of youth onsite. Just a great, big, serious getting yourself fit playspace.

What a gorgeous facility!
Tyson's Playground hosted a lifting event I was apart of at their place and I was blown away by how nice and huge the building was. It was endless racks and weights and free space!
I don't go here as a regular because it is a bit out of my way- but what a great layout. Wish I could go here!
I will say- I passed it a few times before I actually found the building.
