Been climbing at Vertical Rock since 2018. I started with the Learn the Ropes course and got top rope certified there. At first, I was a little nervous asking strangers if theyβd want to climb with me, but everyone I met welcomed me with open arms.
What really sets VR apart is the community. Itβs more than just a gym, itβs a place where people encourage each other, and celebrate each otherβs progress. Whether youβre brand new or experienced, it always feels supportive and inclusive.
The staff is knowledgeable and friendly, and thereβs a strong emphasis on safety and growth. Over the years, Iβve met some of my closest friends here and even started taking people outdoors through connections I made at the gym.
If youβre looking for a place to climb, grow, and find real community, VR is it.

Fun place! Iβm only giving it 4 stars because they need to get better at restocking their inventory - thereβs never any shirts. My daughter enjoyed her time at summer campβ¦especially her camp counselor, Brixton. If youβre looking for something cool to do in Manassas, Iβd say try it.

Great climbing gym in terms of the route setting and friendliness of staff. Iβve been a member for 2+ years and wouldβve give the gym 5 stars, however, over the last few months the cleanliness of the gym has seriously lowered from what it once was. More often than not the bathroom soap seems like it is mixed with water rather than being filled normally (not sure if itβs just a lower quality soap as you can tell the difference compared to when itβs freshly refilled) and the padded floor looks like it hasnβt been cleaned in over a month. Sad to see as I do love this gym but paying the same membership price for a lower quality does not feel great.

I donβt recommend this place. I went once with my children at 7pm, the front door said it was opened until I believe 9pm, but we were taken out at 8pm, I said the front door says 9pm, their excuse was it was before Covid and have not being updated, no apologies they said itβs how it is. Then my son got a membership, he was not informed it was a 1 year contract, he though it was month to month, when he canceled he has to pay almost $300 for early cancellation. They behave like scammers, I donβt recommend this place!

I came in to ask about info, memberships, and how to get started as a complete beginner with no climbing experience. The guy at the front desk just rattled off membership prices, acted completely uninterested, and basically told me I had to figure it out on my own or bring someone with me to help me.

I have had great experiences here. I have taken a few skills course here and have learned a lot. The birthday party package is reasonable. The kids really enjoyed it. We became members and have been going a couple times each week. They have a few auto-belays so you can climb without a partner. The staff is always friendly and helpful. This place has a great atmosphere and is a fun way to meet people in the climbing community.

What a fun place! We bring our son here because he loves to climb. All the staff was very welcoming and are very attentive to the children. My son really enjoys coming and echar week his confidence builds up to go higher. The staff always cheers him on.
Have know a lot this place for a few months but just decided to enroll in January. If youβre like me and overthinking it- donβt. If your child loves to climb on your furniture just bring them here. They will love it!
They donβt have much parking but Iβve never not found parking in front of the building.

I've never been in a climbing gym so my rating is based on my first time experience. I've been on a family rock climbing tour in Moab, bit e that's the extent of my experience.
For me, it was a great first time, I did the "open climb" which included three climbs with as belayer, harness included and I rented climbing shoes. Great range of routes that go me started and provided a comfort level up to my last climb where I was putting in all I had
I come to Manassas regularly for work, and I had been wanting to come try it out for quite a while. They have monthly memberships, but really what would be great would be a punch card system. When I come to town, im not in Manassas long to make a monthly membership worth it, but if I could get a 10 time pass or some such, I'd be all in.

Good routes for lead and top rope. Auto belay is fun but has limited routes. Bouldering is a small corner but thats okay.
Great overall, my only complaint is the lack of showers.

I came to VR Manassas for the first time about 3.5 months ago and came back a few days after my first visit to get a membership. I had never climbed before and now my husband and I come 2-3 times a week. Our son, who just turned 5 this month, also loves climbing! We feel so lucky to have such an awesome climbing gym close by. We have fallen in love with climbing and are so thankful to have walked into Vertical Rock.

What an amazing experience!
My son and I have tried this place a few times. Today, we took their "Learn the ropes" class. Dakota was amazing! He took the time to ensure we really understood the concepts and went at our speed. He was professional and encouraging! Then he checked in on us after the class a few times to ensure that we didn't have any questions!!
Wish this place was closer! It's an hour and a half away but we will definitely be back!

Vertical Rock exceeded my expectations in every way. From the moment I walked in, the friendly and knowledgeable staff made me feel right at home. The facilities are outstanding, with massive climbing walls catering to all skill levels. The routes are well-maintained and offer a variety of challenges. It's clear that safety is a top priority at VR, so much so that I felt confident immersing myself in the full climbing experience. The gym is clean and well-equipped, where the atmosphere inside is extremely infectious, with climbers cheering each other on and offering support. The staff is always available to provide guidance, tips and encouragement, creating a sense of community. Whether you are a seasoned climber or a novice seeking adventure, this place ticks all the boxes as an absolute GEM. I can't wait to challenge myself on their incredible walls again, which I was told are frequently updated. Trust me, you won't be disappointed. And don't forget to check out their kids camps, too!!

My son and I go to the gym in Manassas often. Very clean and well run, with friendly staff and atmosphere (we started as non-climbers).
My son did his climbing merit badge there and several people came up to me asking what class he was taking because it looked so fun.
Finally, my son and I booked an outdoor climbing trip with them. Our guide was fantastic. Very patient and safe. We climbed several routes and did some rappelling. We had a blast and my son wants to do it again.
Highly recommend this place!

Pretty bummed to be honest. I paid $90 for 3 day passes and a shoe rental so me and my friends from out of town could do some bouldering. When we got over to the area we realized that literally half of the bouldering area was under construction... We tried to make the best of it, but with the portion that was available to us, we had done most of the routes within an hour. Kinda lame to charge people full amount when only half the service is available. I would've given this place a better rating because it was well maintained, but this experience was disappointing.

VR has 50+ foot climbing walls, arch and roof climbs, and a variety of rock climbing classes for beginners and experts. Youβll need to have some level of athletic ability but you donβt need to be in perfect condition. They also have a fitness area with strength and cardio equipment, a yoga room, two private rooms that can be used for party or meeting purposes. The staff are all super friendly and supportive and genuinely want to make your experience enjoyable. VR is also a great destination for birthday parties. Make sure to wear appropriate clothing as youβll want to make the climbs as easy as possible.

Having been apart of this gym for the greater part of the year I have been greatly impressed by the skill, approachability, and family friendly culture that the staff and patrons have built. I have served in the military, now a first responder, have had gym memberships for weightlifting and MMA, and I will say that this gym is a go to place for those who are out to better themselves physically, mentally, and socially. On days that I do not want to climb, the gym has a great selection of free weights that includes being able to deadlift, bench, squat, etc.
Most importantly for me is the ability to show up with my two elementary school aged children and feel comfortable having them explore and climb safely while I climb or lift. The staff is also resepctfully vigilant for safety and the open setup allows for me to see my kids around the gym easily. The camaraderie between parents has also been very easy to develop. Also all the staff and youth coaches that I and my children have interacted with are professional, skilled, enthusiastic, and easy to develop a rapport with.
Overall I have been very impressed and grateful for this experience. The cost of joining this gym really pays for itself and with anything else its all about what you put into it.

Ive been climbing here for a few months and loved every visit. The routes are good and are changed often. During the LTR (learn the ropes) class the staff make sure that you are comfortable with the knots and techniques. There are also auto belay devices so you dont need a partner, although most guests are nice enough to give you a belay. In addition to the climbing walls they also have a small gym and a campus board.
As a little added bonus they also have coffee beans to take home and a Keurig to satisfy you caffeine addiction. The only critique I have is that the bouldering problems are difficult to start, but that's just me.

Facility is TERRIBLE. 12-month membership is pricy and it is very hard to get ahold of anyone to cancel your memebership.
Also, when purchasing I specifically asked the employee, "Does this membership expire after 12 months?" The response was "YES". However, I continued to be billed after my year commitment and it was very difficult to reach anyone to cancel my membership.

Joined this gym December 2021 and it has been outstanding. Best decision and investment I have made in myself in a LONG TIME. The staff are great and the climbers are supportive and friendly. A great place to meet positive people and explore climbing. They also have yoga, Pilates, and meet-ups to learn the ropes and meet other members. They are opening a bouldering gym in Tysonβs Corner very soon so more excitement to come.

If I were evaluating the gym exclusively on the community, I'd give it a 5.
If I were evaluating the gym exclusively on the quality of the gym itself (routes, maintenance, workout area, amenities), I'd give it a 3.
If I were evaluating it based on price and business model, a 1.
I'm giving it a 2 because the people make the gym; the gym doesn't make the people. The physical gym itself is 'fine': the routes are decent, the weight area is small, the covid policies were excessively minimal, the size is middling, there's no water bottle filter, the staff is great.
What I have issue with is the delay of maintenance and use of a contract. Triangle, Sport Rock, Movement, Latitude... *every* climbing gym I've been to has a non-contract price approximately equal to the 12 month contract-price of VR (+/- $10). Instead Vertical Rock tacks on a 30% increase for a "flex" version as of writing this, creating a problem and providing the solution like standard chain weight gyms. I'm inclined to believe they aren't hurting for cash since they're expanding to Fairfax, and in the era of Covid, I found the use of a contract anti-consumer. I hope they change their policies.
Check the price/contract of the DC metro area climbing gyms before going and see how much going regularly and distance matters to you.

Member since 2019, supported thru their covid closure. The actual facilities are 3-star at best, the Community is the reason I stay. Simple improvements like a water bottle filler, stairmaster, and happier/more experienced setters would go a long way. Would've been two stars before they added auto-belays.
Gyms are a tricky business, but Its $80 a month and I dont want to have to get a second gym membership just to get a workout in on non-climbing days. Loads of members have planet fitness memberships because of this and I think thats a pretty egregious failure for VR. A couple of grand invested in their facilities would make a huge difference for us regulars.

Literally the best rock climbing place Iβve been to.
Not because the routes are the best. (Theyβre great)
Not because itβs cheap (itβs cheaper but modestly priced)
Not because itβs state of the art. (Itβs just what you need)
Itβs literally because the staff and community is probably the best of almost any business Iβve ever been to. I can leave my phone out (and I often forget things there) and I donβt worry about it. I can climb a route and get tired and talk to the staff not just because theyβre friendly but because they are friends. I would hang out with these people any day of the week.
Seriously worth the drive and experience. Changed my life.
If I could give this place 100 stars I would. Also the route setter Steve is amazing. Matt, Garrett, Steve, Sydney, just everyone there is welcoming and knowledgeable.

Good indoor climbing gym. Weekday climbing is best to avoid birthday parties and other large groups that often go on weekends. I wish they had a discount for younger (>5yo) climbers. I have a couple of children I would love to take with me more often, but at $20+ per child, when they barely attempt two or three climbs before they are done, it just isn't worth it.

Phenomenal gym that has top rope, lead and bouldering and located close-ish to MCB Quantico. The gym is about a 45min to hour drive from Quantico and is the closest gym in a nice area nearby shopping centers. Staff are very friendly and helpful! The routes are good, not often but every now and again there will be a route that feels like the anchors and draws are not kept in mind when the route is set, flow is very awkward however, this is very uncommon and climbing here is always a joy!

great gym! friendly staff & love the energy from all the members. they offer a variety of classes too which is nice as well as camps for kids. they are very strict about masks due to covid, and actively patrol the climbing floor to make sure folks wear them which is appreciated β and yes, you do get used to climbing and working out in a mask, i barely notice it anymore!

Havenβt taken any formal training on climbing anything more than ladders for job purposes, Iβve always wanted to be able to feel comfortable Rock climbing. Well I took the leap so to speak with the DC Vertical Rock Climbing in Manassas.
Everyone was kind and helpful and I basically just walked in off the street. I did fill out the online information before hand but had no idea what to expect. What a great sport to get into is all I can say after one night. Could be the least expensive sport you can get right into for a couple hundred bucks. And you can take it with you anytime an anywhere. More to fallow, I am sure after a few more hours and instructions there will be more information to share.

Excellent climbing gym with great, community feel. Very open layout, clean, and friendly, informative staff. Variety of routes of various difficulties for top rope, lead, and bouldering. Lot if great climbers frequent the gym and climbing groups for different skill levels as well. Personal favorite nights are Monday and Wednesday at 630 for the Meet-up Group climbing session.

Most horrible, nasty place Iβve ever been to. Management is awful. Safety is not number one priority as long as the money is right they donβt care. DO NOT GO HERE.

Amazing gym with outstanding staff. I have been climbing here for a while now and love talking to all the staff members. The community is great and very kind. If you ever need a climbing partner they wonβt let you down. If anyone is looking for a gym to call home Vertical Rock wonβt let you down!

This place is great! First time there and first time indoor climbing. I went with my brother that is going into 9th grade this year. We took the belay class with one other adult, and the instructor Matthew. I cannot say enough good things about Matthew and the entire staff there as a whole. Matt took his time with all three of us and made sure to clearly explain everything we needed to do and how to do it, without making us feel pressured or rushed. After the class we could pair up and climb but not take the test that day, just in case anyone reading this thinks they can take the course and test in the same day, you can't. As an aside, we did go recently for the phases and everything opening up due to Covid. The staff was exceptionally clean and made sure everyone entering had hand sanitizer prior to coming in, and a mask on the entire time. I saw a staff member walking around making sure everyone was continuing to wear a mask which was nice. The rock climbing shoes are not allowed in the bathroom and the water fountains are taped off. After asking what the staff did when they were shut down, they stated they cleaned the carpets, walls, fixtures, and everything in between. It seems like, as a whole, a really professional place to go and do something great in a relaxing environment.

Expensive, but nice people and had a great time! Learned how to belay and then spent the afternoon with my 6 year old daughter in the boulder area. Instructor was nice and clear and took the time to make sure everyone had done everything right.

We have been members for a few years at Vertical Indoor Climbing Center and have really enjoyed our experience there. With the pandemic, we have really missed climbing and decided to give outdoor climbing a try.
The guides, Jovany and Matt, were professional and encouraging as we made our first outdoor climbs after months of not being able to climb at all due to gym closures.
It was an awesome trip. We got to experience outdoor climbs, comfortable with the knowledge that our guides were experienced in outdoor climbing and were doing everything possible to ensure our safety.
I look forward to going out with them again.

The place is ok, the staff is nice but try to push a sale on you, the mats should be a bit bigger for the bouldering especially for novice

Great customer service, my son β·years old climbed all the way up and was scared to let go and come back down. They sent someone up there and talked him down. He overcame and conquered the next 3 walls with ease

I went in there to pretty much conquer my fear of heights and it was awesome! Cleans and friendly environment, plus the staff was so nice and encouraging! Will definitely be going back! Plus, itβs such a good full body work out! I did the 3 climbs and was sweating just on the first climb!

Place is a solid spot to check out. Iβve taken a few friends who would agree. Small workout area with barbells and dumbells if you so choose, but climbing has a few options. The thing that made the visits for me were the staff, they love what they do and impart it through teaching and enthusiasm. If you go I recommend the day pass, makes more sense and offers more climbs for the price. Equipment rental onsite if you need it. Ask the staff about classes and techniques. Also! If you donβt have a climbing buddy theyβve got a board you can drop info on. Never panned our for me, but days I went solo the community was good enough to jump in and belay each other.

I really liked this place ! The staff was all extremely nice and accommodating. I haven't gone rock climbing in YEARS and they were extremely patient. What I liked was that they charged by how many climbs you did instead of doing it by time. So we got 3 climbs per and we didn't have to complete it by a certain time. The staff helped me out as well while I was on the climbs and gave me advice while on the wall, even when I was freaking out about the heights π

Took my kids here (ages 11 and 13) for the open climb. None of us had ever rock climbed before, and we had a great time. Everyone was so nice and our belayer, who was a new staff member, was very nice and patient with us. It was a great, first experience. I highly recommend for anyone just starting out.

This place is a blast. We took our teenage son and I think the adults had just as much fun as the kids. We have been to several other rock climbing businesses and what was nice about this one was that we had a dedicated staff member that stayed with us the entire experience. I would recommend this place for both beginner and the experienced.
