I cancelled my membership at the Ballston location after three months. It's a clean facility that's rarely crowded, but the management there seems to have a fundamental lack of respect for customers. The high monthly fees are simply not worth paying when the customer service is so poor. Look elsewhere if you expect basic professionalism from your gym staff.

Update since I can’t reply:

Thank you for your response, but your summary of the situation is inaccurate and fundamentally misses the point of my feedback.

I need to reiterate again: No one was providing personal training to anyone else. We were two friends working out together, which is a common and reasonable activity in a gym setting. Your assertion that this was about "ensuring safety, consistency, and a high-quality experience" for personal training is a complete misrepresentation of what occurred.

When we spoke in person, the reason provided for confronting us was to "protect your trainers." Now, in writing, you've shifted the reasoning to "safety, consistency, and a high-quality experience." This inconsistency suggests you are doubling down on a stance without acknowledging the core issue.

The issue is not your policy on external trainers; the issue is that my friend and I were watched, profiled, and confronted based on a false assumption. This kind of suspicion and lack of basic respect from management is precisely why I wrote the review and cancelled my membership.

Your fundamental lack of respect for paying customers makes your high fees unjustifiable. I am sorry that this is still not clear to you.

I did a site tour. I specifically asked if could cancel after 4 month because I was only to be able to go to the gym during the summer. I was told it was only a click. Two weeks ago I tried to cancel my subscription, it's impossible. What was going to be a summer treat it's going to become a $1,800 lost. I emailed the team, they are not let me out. This is a tone of money I can't afford.

I’ve been a member of Vida Fitness since 2018, and I’ve regularly used the facilities at Ballston since April 2025, previously patronizing Vida Navy Yard, Vida U St, and Vida LC/Metropole most frequently. I also joined Golds Gym in Ballston in summer 2025.

In Ballston, I would recommend Golds over Vida for several reasons.

Despite really stellar efforts by a vast majority of the Vida Ballston Staff, there is one staff member who makes me uncomfortable ever since she aggressively poked me in the back and implied that I was holding her and her client up because I had been using a piece of gym equipment that they wanted to use.

At this point, I will reiterate that I’ve been a paying member of Vida since 2018, and I never paused my membership (which was an option during the pandemic) because I have always been aggressively supportive of Vida’s staff. In fact, I told Vida managers at LC and Navy Yard that they were not supportive enough of class instructors who needed help with things. Anyway, un-consented touching is never okay and I tried to “shake it off”, but the culpable party is now being featured on Vida’s internal advertising screens, and I just can’t tolerate it anymore. I canceled my membership this weekend.

Golds also has far better equipment.

Vida - at times - will have one stairclimber that works, while Golds has more than enough for anyone who needs one. Golds also has two Jacob’s Ladders for people like me with chronic lower back issues. Also, nobody has ever harassed me at Golds for using gym equipment that I need in order to deal with my chronic back pain (in contrast to Vida).

Vida has superior lighting and spa vibes, but I actually have realized that I need realistic lighting and top quality equipment, so the gym for me is Golds.

Since I’ve had overlapping memberships at both Vida and Golds for a few months, I’ve noticed that several other individuals seem to have memberships at both as well. At least one of those individuals agrees with me that the Golds equipment is better (but the shower situation is inferior to Vida’s).

Golds also has an enormous free parking lot. Golds will get crowded at times, but people are generally courteous (though I’ve encountered entitled people at both gyms).

I typically never leave a review if I would give less than 5 stars, but I’m making an exception here because health is essential, and I know I’m not the only person who goes to the gym to ameliorate stress, which has become an impossible task at Vida Ballston.

My husband and I joined this gym with high hopes, and for the first six months, we genuinely enjoyed the facilities and the environment. Unfortunately, we ultimately decided to cancel our memberships due to a deeply upsetting and unprofessional incident involving a sales team member and management.

While working out with our friend, who is a frequent workout partner and has joined us at other gyms without any issues, a sales team member named Josh and later the manager on duty accused, not questioned, our friend of being a personal trainer and training my husband. This was an entirely baseless and unproven accusation, as they were simply two friends working out together, as many others do at this gym without incident. Not to mention gym rules around personal training at gyms are very common and not something we’ve ever done before. We’ve watched others spot each other, discuss form, and point out machines on nearly every occasion we’ve been to Vida.

The situation was handled terribly. The manager's confrontational approach included saying, "As far as I'm concerned he should never come to this gym again." After this interaction, we were promised that management would review camera footage and contact us. We were shocked to hear from management who, without an apology, stated our friend "looks, and fits the build of someone who would be a personal trainer." A quick Google search of our friend would disprove this narrative…… Would you believe they then offered a free personal training session as a solution.

This was not only unprofessional but also highlighted a deeply concerning issue. It gave us the strong impression that assumptions were made and our friend, who is a Black male, was profiled based on his appearance while working out with my white husband. That these two individuals couldn’t just be friends. My heart was honestly broken over the interaction, my husband said he felt harassed and had never experienced anything like that before. It's truly unfortunate that profiling like this still occurs, and while the gym itself is nice, I cannot in good conscience recommend this location.

I really wanted to like this gym. It has everything that I've come to expect in a gym before moving to this area - a variety of fitness classes included in membership fees and classes at various times during the day in a relatively clean environment. The majority of the people that I came into contact with at the gym were awful, they didn't follow-through on what they said they would do or were just generally uninformed about what was happening in the gym and offered no support.

When I came into the gym, the front desk staff almost never greeted me or acknowledged my presence. I signed up for a membership after coming through ClassPass and didn't receive a tour and overview of what my membership gave me access to so I attempted to set up a tour for myself several times with the front desk saying someone would contact me which never happened while I was a member there.

It was also disappointing to sign up for a membership under what I thought was a deal then I was required to purchase a service (either Pilates with reformers or sessions with a personal trainer) for $150. Honestly, didn't really want either of the services. I spent months trying to set up some of my free first sessions with the staff at the front desk.

The class offerings are also problematic for me in that they only offer a fraction of what other Vidas offer. There's one class that sounds amazing according to the description but because it's only offered at 11 am, I can't try it. The Pilates on reformers are a separate entity from Vida and you have to purchase packs or classes to attend which is unfortunate that it is not included in membership.

I didn't use a lot of the free weights area since I was never able to get a tour and learn how the machines work but the gym was pretty crowded after 5pm and Saturday mornings. No one ever tells you but you get tons of discounts with your membership and parking is validated for an hour. It would have been great to know these things.

A good chunk of the lockers don't lock and the sauna is constantly broken. The showers in the locker rooms weren't palatable for me but the ones on the bottom floor where you have an individual room worked better for me.

In terms of classes, for the strength and cardio classes many used the same routine or basic exercises again and again so it was easy to get bored and not be challenged during workouts. Overall, the management of the gym was the worst part of the gym. I've already requested to cancel my membership but unsure if I'll sign up at any of the other Vidas as management seems to be a problem with all of them.

I was ready to join VIDA Ballston online with their base membership, but the checkout process requires a $150 “New Member Package” to proceed. It’s not optional and wasn’t clearly disclosed on the pricing page.

The gym looks solid based on reviews and amenities, but the lack of upfront pricing is disappointing. If the real cost to start is $279, just say that.

Still open to joining if this ever changes. Transparency matters.

Just joined this gym. The membership consultant, Derek, was super personable, & I never felt like I was being "sold" to. He worked with me to sign up with an option that met my needs.

The tour was great, & I knew this gym was the right fit for me because it's a short walk from where I live, the facilities are clean, spacious, has all the equipment one could want, isn't crowded, and the dim ambience really motivates me like I'm here to work 💪. The music playing over head is also my type of music...RnB, hip hop, some pop; also, the music volume is just right not annoyingly loud.

There are 3 levels: ground level (entrance, aura spa, smoothie bar); upper level (has floor to ceiling windows, cardio equipment, upper body equipment); underground level (no windows, 3 group fitness rooms, leg equipment, TRX area, open space).

The women's locker room/restroom area is clean & plays spa music.

I've worked out here a few times, & it's never been crowded. That said, I avoid what are probably the busiest times (e.g., immediately before work or after work).

I also like that I can order a freshly made smoothie after my workout. So, I make sure I refuel by eating clean.

I'm excited to try some of the classes soon, which is included in my monthly membership fee.

Update:

Been coming here for a few years now and I have to say it is worth the price for me now. I’ve taken many of the classes to include sweatbox, Pilates, barre, Zumba, and reformer pilates, just to name a few. I still wish reformer and sweatbox were included since the price for the gym isn’t cheap! The facility is always well maintained and clean. i love the saunas, though those have broken a few times the management is always quick to repair the wait is usually part related. They have a wide variety of gym equipment and weight, squat racks, etc. they also offer personal training, which I have met a few of the trainers who are super nice and welcoming. It’s great to workout at a gym where you are welcomed and get to know the front desk and staff. Overall, would highly recommend.

Original:
I’ve taken a few classes at VIDA to try out the gym. The classes I took were barre, shred, sweat box, and Pilates. Pilates and sweat box were my favorite by far. Sweat box is a great mix of cardio and strength. Pilates was a great strength training class that didn’t feel harsh on my joints. Shred was very difficult for me, lots of burpees, repetitive lifting. Barre I was not a fan of but that’s more likely personal preference as it does require some aspects of flexibility. The facility is very nice equipment appears new and kept up well. However, I had mixed reviews with staff. Heads up if you’re not vaccinated you cannot enter the gym, if this is something that would keep you from coming. It was slightly weird having to show my vaccination card with ID and have the front desk stare at it for what felt like 5 minutes to ensure that I wasn’t lying and everything was legit. The pricing is what keeps me from getting a membership at VIDA. There isn’t really a budget friendly option. Sweat box which was my favorite is not included in the $119 and $139 per month classes. The highest membership is $189 a month which I consider high, considering I can get a gym membership with classes for a much more reasonable price. Overall, really liked the classes and facility just not super sold on the prices.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Outstanding Gym Tour Experience

I had an amazing experience touring Vida fitness thanks to Joshua Sands From start to finish, he was incredibly kind, professional, and knowledgeable. He was enthusiastic and eager to help, answering any of my questions with patience and detail. He took the time to explain the gym’s amenities thoroughly and made me feel completely comfortable. His genuine care for my fitness goals really stood out. If you’re considering joining, I highly recommend asking for Josh Sands at the ballston location —he truly makes the experience exceptional & I am now a vida fitness member he made me feel like its the perfect place for me

This review is really 3.5 stars. I've been an on and off member of this location (last attended Vida regularly in 2023/started back up this Jan 2025) and the overall upkeep of the gym has gone done a bit. With a monthly membership upwards of $120+ there shouldn't be 5-6 broken treadmills. I've gone to the gym during peak hours and non-peak hours throughout the week and people are waiting for equipment to free up, so they can do some level of cardio. Depending on the timeliness of repairs, I'll gladly edit my review. Vida Fitness-Ballston is a great gym, just was disappointed to see the overall quality of it go down since coming back...

The recent reviews of the Steam/Sauna are a little fabricated, because they do feel clean. The cleaning staff does a great job and they definitely deserve the shout out for all that they do.

I've been a frequent member at every single location while moving around DC and now living in Arlington, I've been at the Ballston location for 2 years now. My trainer Jonas has helped me reach my fitness goals and then some! Front desk dude Sam is all smiles as you walk in and makes sure to have your smoothie ready when you're leaving. Gwen the Sweatbox instructor/manager has an AMAZING Sweatbox class and really motivates you to keep going. They also keep getting new equipment to keep it fresh! Loving everything about it!

This gym and it's staff are absolutely top notch. I have been a long time member of VIDA and have been to various locations over the years. The Ballston location is hands-down the best. The facilities are always super clean, the staff is so kind and helpful (shout out to Isaac being the GOAT), the selection of equipment is vast, the restorative spaces of the spa & saunas are spotless and always smell nice, and the entire gym's layout makes sense with room to spare. Thanks again for all that you guys do!

I personally live in Ballston so picking a facility nearby was very important for me. I have been a member for almost half a year now. About a day ago I walk in to see a homeless person sleeping in the lobby, later that day I noticed they were being escorted INTO the locker room. I find this absolutely bizarre, then I come to hear as she was there stating she is paying for an executive locker, while her sleeping bag was in the middle of the locker room with her bags - smelling. I'm not sure what the policies hold; however, id like people to be informed of this as I wasn't. A gym that charges me nearly $130/month. This is NOT ok, id love to have this be sent to upper management to explain why this is ok.

Clean and wide range of equipment (some duplicates) but essential workout equipment has been removed from the floor and never replaced. Nice dry sauna, spacious steam room; though it could benefit from getting cleaned more regularly. Lockers/ Showers are relatively clean; they are cleaned & managed semi-frequently. T-Shirt sizes are not inclusive, even after 3 years of asking for additional sizes.

After my cancellation, they continued to charge me for 2 months. I jumped through hoops, calling and emailing for 2 weeks to get a hold of a manger who works there and cancel my membership. They never answered my emails or returned my calls. Managers had outdated information, who left the company and others were out of the office before 3pm making it near impossible to reach anyone who could assist. Needs work in administrative functions and communication.

7 day update - Thank you for the quick response, Vida team, however it is just words. I have been to the gym about 4 times since the original post. The first day after the post, it was very clean even had some soap left on the ground. However I went to use it on Sunday, saw a dirty tape or bandage on the ground. The problem is, over 24 hours later it is still there. This confirm there is no daily cleaning. I will cancel my membership and reduce the star because they have confirmed my problem and said they would fix it but have not.
Nice wide range of equipment and generally clean. The steam room does not get cleaned enough. It says it gets cleaned daily but definitely does not, as other reviews also agree. This was one of the main reasons of joining and why it’s a 3 star instead of 5. For the price point, location, range of equipment I would give it a 5 star.

I've been a member at VIDA Fitness - Ballston for about a month... and I've been impressed in several ways.

I want to give a shout out to my incredible personal trainer, Brandon Doyle. With a blend of tailored workouts, empathetic support, and evident expertise, Brandon stands out as an exceptional trainer. I have a history of patellar tendinitis - and Brandon tailors my workouts to make sure the exercises remain in a safe range of motion.

Brandon carefully pushes my boundaries and has introduced me to machines I never would've approached alone. Yes, I'm a cardio-nut, and would likely never creep over to the weight section without an outside force... treadmill, yay!

I highly recommend Brandon! Be prepared for polite soreness... it hurts so good!

I’ve been a member at Vida Ballston for a few years and can say it’s a very nice gym with a good selection of equipment. Their shower and locker rooms are always clean, the machines are well maintained, and the staff are friendly and helpful. With that said, there are a number of things I believe should be addressed to justify the price:
1. Most of the workout areas are not cleaned up and organized on a regular basis, resulting in equipment, weights, random PVC poles strewn haphazardly around the gym. I don’t think it’s unreasonable to expect there to be staff dedicated to straightening these areas throughout the day, returning weights and equipment to their appropriate places. At the very least, staff should be working to keep walkways clear so visitors don’t have to walk over / around piles of equipment. It has started looking like a unkept community center, at best.
2. When I first joined the gym, they appeared well staff with employees eager to help and ensure you were having a great experience which, to be honest, is what you should expect from a fitness facility at this price point.
3. I can’t speak to the quality or effectiveness of their personal trainers, but what I do find problematic is they often have their clients occupy multiple places on the gym floor simultaneously. This results in several (sometimes three or more) locations and pieces of equipment being monopolized by one person working out. Considering most of their time is spent taking to one another, the result is less equipment and space available to others.
I still enjoy the gym, but the quality of the services have decreased over the 2-3 years I’ve been a member. If you are new to the area, I would careful consider your options.

Corrected: Please be cautious with your card details and charges. The trainer repeatedly violated rules by unprofessionally demanding payment, even falsely claiming that I had overdue sessions. I requested a list of my sessions and proved that I had no overdue payments. It became clear to me that this organization prioritizes extracting money over ethical practices, prompting me to terminate our agreement to protect my finances. Unfortunately, they continue to charge extra for unused services, as they have access to my card information. Legal action may be necessary, but it appears that this organization only requires your card to be in their system to initiate charges.

I have been a member of VIDA Fitness since 2015. There are a lot of things to like about this location – The equipment is new and logically laid out, the staff is friendly, and it's a large space so it never feels too full However, there is something terribly wrong with the showers at this location. You can be the only person in the showers and there is still no hot water – the rainfall shower heads look great, but the water pressure is abysmal. It's been like this for at least a month. I thought they would have fixed this by now. For this reason alone I will be sticking to the other VIDA Fitness locations.

I was a member here for almost a year before having to cancel my membership due to moving. I will miss this gym so much.

I'd recommend this VIDA location to anyone interested in a high-quality gym. While the membership is expensive, the quality, spaciousness, amount of open equipment, sauna, steam room, and other amenities make it worth the price if you're willing to pay. Most of the staff are friendly and are pleasant to interact with. Most members here that I have encountered are also pleasant and non-judgmental. During the hours I tend to go there is a very diverse crowd of members.
The parking garage located below the facility is adequate and you can park there for $1 if you are a VIDA member. The parking garage has ChargePoint EV chargers on levels 2, 3, and 4 for anyone with an EV.
I have very few complaints about this gym, but one thing I often noticed was that the sanitizing wipes at the stations located around the equipment needed refilled. The facility is also usually pretty warm. Despite this, the facility continues to be upgraded with new equipment like Theraguns being added semi-regularly.
Check out this location if you want a high-end workout experience with a diverse group of individuals.

I joined Vida Fitness in Ballston about 7 months ago and have been happy with my experience so far. The gym is the cleanest in Arlington, and they have an exceptional COVID policy. The equipment is high quality, and their locker rooms and showers are spacious. They also have a sauna and group classes, but I haven't tried those experiences yet. So far I've experienced mostly kindness and respect from the other members, and the staff are attentive. Even at peak times the gym isn't overly crowded like other gyms in Ballston where you have to wait an exceptionally long time to use the weights or equiptment. I also recommend Aura Spa which is attached to the gym - both for facials and massages.

An extremely ill-informed and disrespectful staff, I would urge everyone to look into an entirely different gym where the people actually treat you with respect and want to help you. As a prospective member, I was told numerous things incorrectly regarding their memberships and treated poorly by their front desk for a lack of them not knowing how to do their job. Devon, the front desk guy was extremely disrespectful and rude to me. Sarah, the manager of their membership services also has a lack of understanding of what is currently being offered in the gym for memberships. An extremely disappointing experience nonetheless. Not worth your time or money!

Well maintained gym, very clean, and friendly staff. Price is disproportionately high relative to other gyms, and the music in the evening is loud and annoying.

Vida requires far more of your private datum than any other gym. Beware, the owner David Von Storch & the general manager Nancy Burnham are activists, at least a congressman has been doxed on Facebook so far - overheard it at the front desk.

Vida has quality equipment with low volume of people, equals never having to wait in line for machines. That’s a plus in my book. I just joined, so not yet sure how their back end works

Signed up with Vida in Balston and it is truly amazing.
I've been working out for over 25 years, it is super clean, all new equipment with a layout that makes it easy to access each area,
and windows on three sides with a great view.
Worked out with Nick, a personal trainer and got a good feel for the equipment and suggestions for a routine on my own.
Membership sign up was easy, no pressure, it took less than 20 minutes.
Can't beat the location. Highly recommend this club!

Very clean, full service gym including top of the line equipment, knowledgeable staff and personal trainers, a spa, smoothie bar, and multiple locations some of which feature rooftop pool access (with the right membership). The locker rooms are well appointed and the showers include shampoo and body wash with towel service at no additional cost. Most gym showers become nasty after a year or so after opening, but VIDA maintains a high standard that sets it apart from other area gyms.

Highest quality machines and equipment; large, perfectly-maintained always clean facility; knowledgeable and helpful staff, trainers, and management; variety of group classes; easy parking and access, good location. They have been maintaining the most sensible pandemic policy. Friendly and professional management is open to any feedback. It is absolutely worth the investment.

Very clean, well maintained and a bright open space. During COVID they have been doing lots of extra cleaning and mask usage is 100% throughout the facility. Love this gym.

The gym is new which is nice. The General Manager is awful to deal with. The General Manger she's arrogant and rude to customers. She treats people horribly and act's as if she is doing to a favor. I wouldn't recommend this gym to deal with the abuse from the GM. There are plenty of other gyms near by that will treat you with respect.

Fantastic gym! I’ve been going for several months & I’ve been very happy. They’ve done a great job modifying things to be Covid Safe - plenty of space between equipment, cleaned constantly & ample disinfecting supplies located throughout the gym. Everyone adheres to the mask policy & is good about cleaning equipment when done. Great selection of high quality equipment, definitely worth the higher price compared to other gyms in the Ballston area.

I gush about VIDA Ballston to everyone I know. I joined shortly after the Ballston location opened and chose VIDA specifically because of the COVID precautions in place. Other gyms in the area are doing the bare minimum to keep members safe while VIDA is going above and beyond. The gym is cleaned constantly and is spotless. The variety of equipment and spacing between that equipment is great. The personal trainers are awesome and so helpful. I'm so thrilled that VIDA brought their excellent service to my neighborhood!

Finishing up my first 12 weeks of training with William Sorrentino and loving it at the new VIDA. The gym staff has taken great care during the pandemic and there is only a handful of us working out at time. William has been super and challenged me each visit with a new weights circuit. Parking is easy in the 4040 Wilson garage with an elevator direct into VIDA and they validate, so you only have to pay $1! VIDA Ballston gets 5 stars.

Ross is an A+ trainer.

Love the openness, variety, and amount of equipment. Can’t wait for the steam room to open back up!

There’s also plenty of cleaning equipment. Vida has done a great job at sanitizing everything, very frequently.

I joined the Ballston Vida location shortly after they opened in June. My son and I have asthma so our family had been strictly quarantining since March. Parking is in the 4040 Wilson garage and they validate so it's only $1 for up to 3 hours. After speaking to Richie (the GM), I decided to take a tour to check out their various safety protocols. Richie was absolutely AWESOME and thorough during the tour!

I expected the gym itself to be beautiful simply due to Vida's rep but it really is a stunner. I love that it's separated over 3 floors which makes you feel less jam packed than my previous gym (first level is the lobby/fuel bar, second is cardio/weights, lower is group fitness). Everything is totally modern and stacked with up to date equipment. Richie showed me all the social distancing signage, individual sanitizing spray bottles, professional cleaning staff, and even their UV mat sanitizer which was so cool! Every other piece of cardio equipment is unavailable to ensure that patrons are necessarily distanced.

The Vida app helps make returning to the gym safe because you need to use it to reserve your spot to use the club (cardio/weights area) or in the group fitness classes. This is huge because it allows them to control capacity. All the group fitness instructors I've taken are amazing! Caroline and Julie are FANTASTIC yoga teachers (they taught C2 and Sculpt from CPY where I used to go). Shanika does a kick butt outdoor boot camp and Circuit training and Lisa was a fabulous Color change spinning instructor!

All the super friendly staff wear masks and they do contactless temperature checks upon arrival. The smoothies at the Fuel Bar are also great, my faves were the PB and J and the old mean faithful. Honestly, Richie and his team have gone above and beyond to make this club as wonderful as possible. I have felt totally secure and at ease coming here 4-5 times a week. With many studios being unable to open due to a lack of safe protocols, you'll be so happy that you joined Vida, I highly recommend this Vida location!

I've been going to this Vida since it opened a few weeks ago. Very nice, professional, and clean. Staff are all very friendly and take COVID restrictions/limitations very seriously, which is much appreciated. The gym is continually being cleaned so I feel very safe and comfortable. Brand new awesome equipment! I can't recommend it enough.
