Carl is very knowledgeable and I’m thankful to have found this Crozet gem!! For someone who hasn’t worked out in years, I was very apprehensive and intimidated to start back, but everyone here has been so nice and inviting! Thankful to have a place like this in the community.

I absolutely adore working out here! It isn't even the closest gym to my house and I am willing to travel for it. The people are so kind and Carl and Chris really explain things. Equipment is also sanitized every hour as well! Super clean, challenging workout, and great place overall.

ZSP is a super place to workout. Very challenging. I'm doing workouts that I'd NEVER do if I hadn't joined. I actually look forward to working out now. One thing to note tho, CrossFit has a way of seeping into your everyday life. The other day I called my insurance company, they asked me who I wanted to speak to, and I said as many reps as possible. Still, this is a fun gym with a leader(Carl) that really helps you become stronger.

ZSP Crossfit is an amazing place. Carl Zovko, ZSP's founder and owner, is friendly, knowledgeable and professional. There are plenty of exercises that I can't complete due to lack of strength, but Carl is always able to provide multiple ways to scale each exercise so that I can still work the same muscle group. The classes are always fun and are as easy or as difficult as you make them, which allows you the opportunity to test your limits and get outside of your comfort zone. The people who attend classes are all super friendly and easy going and also help motivate me to push myself beyond what I thought was possible. They create a culture of inclusion and safety. A place where you can be both strong and vulnerable at the same time. It's a place where you can succeed, but it's also a place where you don't have to be afraid to fail in. Being a member of the ZSP tribe is special and that's why I keep going back.

Before joining ZSP CrossFit I was a slow, slovenly, and sloppy man. Not really a man at all, more like Jabba the Hutt, but slower, bigger and without a hot, galactic princess chained to my side. I didn't have the strength to hold a full bag of Cheetos, let alone an xBox controller. It had been years since I competed in a medieval jousting tournament or reenacted a civil war battle. Performing the reproductive act with a human female was but a distant memory.
I discovered ZSP by accident. I was catching my breath near the entrance so I could make it another 50 feet to Sal's Pizza. As I was hacking up the remaining pieces of my lungs, I saw people of above average appearance and moderately trim waistlines lifting heavy things and putting them back in the same place, jumping on wooden boxes and raising and lowering themselves. At first I thought they were being attacked by police dogs, but oddly, they seemed to doing this voluntarily. From sheer curiosity and an appreciation of yoga pants, I stepped inside. I half expected to be greeted with an overly assertive "may I help you sir?", followed quickly by a sound beating.
Instead Carl (the owner and head coach), looked upon me with sympathy, pity even. We talked briefly and I joined that very day. The next year was a blur, an extended montage of the Rocky theme, Eye of the Tiger and assorted AC/DC songs.
I emerged from this trial with a full beard, a shirt with three wolves on it, a 12ga shotgun, a topless CJ7 jeep, a red bandanna, steel toed boots, a smug gaze, thick arms, a chiseled chest and legs the size of overfed pigs. I dead lift my Ford F350 every morning with an eagle on my shoulder. Tomorrow I leave to fight the Kaiser.

I began seeing Carl as a physical therapist for my knees. Constant pain had kept me from exercising and I was in terrible shape. After completing therapy, I felt ready to exercise and I gave his Crossfit gym a try. I could not be happier! When I walked through the door, I could not do a single sit-up. Now I can do many more than I ever thought possible and I am so much stronger than I was a year ago! Carl's Crossfit classes have showed me that I am capable of more than I ever imagined!

I started working out about year and half ago after being inspired by my coworkers. I was witness to their amazing results and wanted a piece of the action!
Carl, the owner and trainer, has been amazing to work with. He is encouraging, understanding, helpful, professional....but will also motivate you to go beyond your comfort zone. Once you start seeing the results, you’ll be hooked like the rest of us. You’ll become a part of the ZSP family 🙂🏋️♀️❤️

ZSP CrossFit is awesome. I was nervous to try it, but so many friends raved about the owner Carl and the quality of the workout. I started with the Elements classes and haven't looked back. Carl creates a welcoming environment for all shapes, sizes, ages and ability levels. I love how knowledgeable he is, and because he is a physical therapist, he can easily recommend modifications if needed. The classes are small with lots of individual attention. I highly recommend ZSP CrossFit!

ZSP Crossfit is an amazing place! Carl is a great coach and welcomes all fitness levels. He scales workouts to meet participants’ abilities, but he also pushes us to step out of our comfort zones. As a physical therapist, he always makes sure we are performing the exercises safely and with the best form. He’s built an awesome community of members- people I look forward to seeing in and out of the gym. There aren’t many things that routinely get me out of bed at 4:30am, but Carl makes me look forward to that early morning alarm (and midnight Wodify check)!

When I moved into the area I was living alone and felt a little lost. Finding a community as supportive, accepting, and kind as the ZSP family has been such a blessing. From the first sit down meeting with Carl where we discussed my fitness goals, his credentials (which are extensive), my hesitations about CrossFit, and how we could find the right balance I felt like I had found a gym that was committed to a personal approach and friends that shared a similar worldview.
I am not someone who looks forward to working out but the programming of each work out and the connections I've made with other members have turned me into someone who can't wait to go to the gym each morning. Classes are the right combination of challenging and enjoyable, I always leave out of breath and sweaty but am not worried about injury or overexertion because Carl is always there to help adjust and scale anything that is outside of your range of ability.
I would suggest ZSP for everyone, any age, level of fitness, or exercise goal. Classes are small, fun, and challenging and the community make this gym a hidden gem.

ZSP Crossfit is the best gym I have ever been a member of. Carl’s friendly and positive style to the way he leads classes is a quality hard to find at most gyms. Carl has created an inclusive environment for folks at all fitness levels, and his physical therapist background is an added benefit to those in his classes. Carl regularly creates extra programs such as a running class to prepare for an upcoming race or nutrition program based on suggestions from members. I started with ZSP over a year ago and attend about 3 days a week. The results have been impressive to say the least. The best part though is the community that Carl has created. Everyone is encouraging, supportive, and has a good time. Try a class sometime and see for yourself!

I started working out at ZSP back in October 2017 and haven’t regretted it once.
After reading up on Carl’s background as a Doctor of Physical Therapy, I decided to give him a shot despite misgivings about CrossFit. I had always worried about getting injured doing CrossFit but that isn’t a concern at ZSP. Carl gives great care and attention to his clientele to ensure they have a safe but competitive environment to achieve their fitness goals.
Carl also ensures that everyone feels comfortable and has fun. He has a great deal of personal warmth and empathy. He’s great at breaking the ice with funny stories from his childhood in Florida and Lynchburg VA. Stories from Carl’s 6th grade year in Florida are real crowd pleasers. You’ll have to come try out ZSP to find out why. But believe me, it’s totally worth it.
Get your butt over to ZSP ASAP!

Had done CrossFit before and loved it so when Carl opened ZSP here in Crozet I joined immediately and have not looked back. At age 51, I look back at all the years that I worked out on and off by myself and wish that CrossFit was available to me 30 years ago. The motivation and camaraderie I get at ZSP reminds me of the fun days of group sports from years ago. The attention that Carl gives to doing a lift/stretch/run, etc properly is why I have had no injuries in the almost 2 years that I have been coming to his gym. This was the best investment in my health that I have ever made.

I was in a rut with my workout routine, and a friend suggested that I try ZSP CrossFit. My initial reaction was that I am too old, and I had fears of getting injured from some crazy CrossFit coach pushing me beyond my limits. My friend told me that ZSP CrossFit welcomed all ages and fitness levels, and that I really should check it out.
I started with the Element class, and I was immediately hooked! Carl, aka not-crazy CrossFit coach :) encourages me in a healthy, safe way to be my best. I feel stronger, and I love the way we all cheer each other on... we laugh and we work hard, and it is awesome!

This place is the absolute best. It's a CrossFit gym that meets you where you are, no matter the fitness level, and builds you up from there. The owner/trainer, Carl, is a physical therapist who emphasizes form and safety in every work out, but knows how to get you to safely push it.
I've been going a couple times a week for 3 months now. I've still got a long way to go but the improvement already is fantastic!
But the best part is the sense of community at the gym. Class sizes feel small and social. Everybody supports each other and enjoys each other's company. It really feels like being on a team which only adds to the fun.
So check it out, you will LOVE it.

ZSP isn't just a place to do CrossFit : it's a place to find community and support, all while working on being the best version of yourself. Here you do get to work out alongside an (amazing) group of people, yet every exercise and movement is scalable. One never has to worry about showing up and not being able to fit in with the group, thanks to Carl's awesome ability to make you feel great about where you are on your fitness journey and helping you do what's best for your abilities and growth. Take all of the above and add to it the fact that he's a doctor of physical therapy who mixes in his expertise to build workouts that are the perfect mix of challenging and fun... and you get what I do believe is the perfect box.

My husband and I both Love love love ZSP and Carl. Carl is a great coach--encouraging, motivating and always positive. His physical therapy knowledge is such a great compliment to the weight lifting and makes me feel confident that I am pushing myself but doing it safely. And my kids LOVE the kids classes. I usually have to press them to go to sports practices but they're always excited to go to ZSP. THANK YOU Carl for taking care of our whole family's fitness!

I whole-heartedly recommend Carl Zovko 's ZSP Crossfit to anyone interested in taking care of their bodies for life! He provides quality strength, flexibility and cardio workouts in a fun and relaxed environment! After joining a year and a half ago, I have never been in better shape!

Worked out here for about six months and had to leave due to work assignment across country. I already miss this place. Owner Carl provides terrific advice regarding scaling workouts and pre/post workout routines. I came in post-surgery and Carl did a great job giving recommendations for scaling some challenging workouts while motivating me to do better. Friendly atmosphere at this gym that proves welcoming to beginners and experts alike. Always felt challenged and inspired to do better working out here every time. I hit several personal records on deadlift and back squat while training here despite being post-surgery. My level of physical fitness would not be what it is currently without ZSP. I would highly recommend this gym to anyone living in the Crozet/Ivy/Charlottesville area!

This is the best investment that I've ever made in my health and wellness. Carl is not just a great coach. He has a PHD in physical therapy and is constantly watching our form/ motion with exercise to make sure we don't hurt ourselves. I actually look forward to class everyday and I can't say that about my previous exercise experiences.
