This is literally the worst gym I have ever been in. The equipment has got to be at least 30 years old, outdated and in horrible shape.

Maintenance is an issue. Most of the equipment is rusted, and seats torn. Equipment is often out of order for long periods of time.

The equipment squeaks. It smells. Its also overly crowded, which is odd that they dont make enough to have good equipment.

I'm so disappointed to find out the pool has closed. I suffered an injury that prevents me from strength training that I had settled into water aerobics since August with a hiatus in November. The pool was the only reason I kept my membership going. I unfortunately had to cancel the membership. Shout out to Anthony and Joe-I'll miss you, friends!

I joined 24 Hour Fitness specifically for the pool. It was always uncomfortably cold, and now it’s closed permanently with no plans to reopen. Very disappointing and not what I signed up for. I cancelled my membership.

Disappointing. The lap pool and hot tub have been permanently closed, and according to staff, this is because of a broken pool heater the company is unwilling to pay to repair. For context, replacing or repairing a commercial heater for a lap pool of this size typically costs only $5,000–$15,000, which makes the decision not to fix it even more frustrating. Despite this, the gym continues to advertise a pool on their website as if it were still available.

This location is one of the few gyms in downtown Seattle that had a proper lap pool, so this isn’t a case of low demand — it’s a case of failure to maintain basic facility infrastructure.

I joined and used this gym specifically for the pool. I overlooked a lot because of that convenience — including broken bathroom fixtures left unrepaired for months and perpetual cleanliness issues. But now the pool has simply been covered with a black plastic tarp, rather than being repaired or properly closed off, which takes the situation from disappointing to concerning.

Members should also be aware of potential safety and code issues:

A pool covered only by a tarp but still accessible to members is not standard or acceptable practice.

This condition may conflict with Washington’s public pool safety regulations (WAC 246-260).

It may violate Seattle DCI building and safety standards for hazardous areas.

Leaving an aquatic facility partially open creates premises liability risks, including slips, falls, and accidental entry into an unsafe area.

Any properly run fitness center would fully close and barricade an aquatic area during mechanical failure or repairs. Leaving it accessible with nothing but a tarp is unsafe and unprofessional.

To make matters worse, the facility has been unwilling to offer a pro-rated refund, even though the primary amenity I joined for no longer exists.

If you are considering joining this gym for the pool, be aware: there is no functional pool, it is not secured, and management has not provided reasonable accommodation or transparency.

Per the gym manager, lap pool is indefinitely closed without any notice. They had some issue with the pool heating that they can’t or don’t know how to fix. They don’t offer any refunds and insist lap pool was an “extra” service despite advertising it. Don’t sign up here.

These canned answers by some staff person regarding the pool situation are becoming insulting. The pool and hot tub are currently closed with no date to reopen. The pool has not worked properly since August. Staff has no answers and I don't blame them as the corporate offices obviously are not giving them the information they require. The staff is in the dark just like the members. Many pieces of equipment sit for months without repair on the gym floor also. There is no club manager. We tried emails and a letter with no response. Not surprised. We will be canceling our membership this coming week. I highly recommend people go elsewhere. Remember people will be reading your response so don't make it worse. No canned nonsense response please. If someone does respond just give straight facts. Do you plan on ever reopening the pool and if so, when? A straight answer just may keep us as members.

Overall a great gym with great prices. This gym is filled with all shapes of people of all colors... usually on the younger side. I tried the three day pass. It was a great way to see if id love it or not. My only gripe is there is only one row machine and it isnt open 24 hours. Will I commit... not sure yet.

After just moving to Seattle I wanted to check out this gym so I signed up for the 3 day pass. I walk in only to be told that this is supposedly only for WA residents. Even when I tried to explain that I’m new to the area, they wouldn’t honor the 3-day pass for me to try out the facility. The next day I receive a call from the front office asking me if I would like to purchase their monthly package. What a joke!

Over the summer, I started training with a swim coach and finally got into a routine. I was swimming for 1-2 hours for 6 days a week and making great progress. However, toward the middle of August, the pool heater stopped working and it has yet to be replaced. The temperature is 72° and lower, which is unacceptable given the risks associated with swimming at these temperatures. Furthermore, when pressed to give a timeline on fixing the heater, Alex (the manager) ignored me.

At this point, I only swim 1-2 days a week for maybe 40 minutes at a time in a completely different facility. I try running and lifting, but given a previous leg injury, this is not sustainable. Frankly, I’m starting to wonder why I even pay for a membership. If I were rating just the coaches and front desk, I’d easily give 5 stars. But being unable to swim consistently (which is why I go here in the first place) and being ignored when I ask a fair question (when will it be fixed?) knocks this place down to 1 star.

EDITED TO ADD: I did send a message to the link provided by management in the response to this review. Again— no response. The pool heater is not going to be fixed and the temperature continues to sit around 70°. Other equipment is not being fixed or replaced when broken. DO NOT JOIN THIS GYM! They clearly are planning to close for good. I feel like I was swindled out of my hard-earned money. They should change the name of this company from 24 Hr Fitness to 24 Hr Cash Grab.

Lots of space, machines and equipment and great hours. Free parking is available after 5pm on weeknights or before 8am on weekdays. The pool is one of the nicer pools at a 24 hr fitness location I've used and it's 25 meters. Only downside...locker rooms are run down and not the cleanest. Gym is often crowded between 5pm-7pm so better to go during off hours.

Update 12/17/25: Reducing rating as the gym has removed almost all the paper towel and cleaning stations. The bathrooms continue to be gross and run down and there are always problems with the hot water. It has been years and this place has refused to upgrade or maintain the bathrooms properly. You get what you pay for.

Update 10/15/25: Pool heater has been broken since late August. Apparently the building owner and 24 Hr Fitness are at odds on who should pay to fix it. They both have decided not to pay, so there is a pool, but the water is in the high 60's or low 70's. You can swim, but it is pretty chilly. It's a shame the gym and building management can't come to an agreement as pool access in Seattle is pretty limited and this provided a need in the community. If the temp of the pool continues to drop they said the pool will be closed indefinitely. This was one of the main reasons I have been a member so long, so if this ends up being closed, then I will probably cancel my membership.

0 stars if possible, I just moved to Seattle and got a 3 day pass to check it out. When I came in they said since my ID didn't say Seattle it wouldn't be free instead it would be 30$ FOR THREE DAYS. I offered to show my lease with a Seattle address and they said they wouldn't accept that. No manager available to speak to either and completely useless employees that didn't offer any other option to prove my residence. DO NOT GIVE THIS GREEDY COMPANY YOUR MONEY!!

This 5 star review is for Anjelica.

I’ve been a member of the 24 Hour Fitness on Yale Avenue in downtown Seattle for over a decade, and after years of watching it decline, it had become the dirtiest gym in Seattle. I currently work at Equinox, so trust me I know dirty when I see it. About a year ago, it got so bad it was unbearable.

I started going to the Northgate location instead, it’s significantly cleaner, has a working pool, a full-size basketball court, and treadmills with fans. There were even rumors that the Yale location might be closing because they hadn’t renewed their lease in October. When I learned it was still open, I stopped by, maybe thinking I was saying goodbye to a place I’d long been part of.

What I didn’t expect to find is Angelica, a kind woman with a great sense of humor cleaning the gym. Thanks to her effort, the gym was unrecognizably clean. I wanted to give her the recognition she deserves. Because of Angelica, I’m seriously considering returning to this location on a part-time basis.

I’m new to Seattle and needed a gym that was close by, clean, and had great employee to member interaction and Alex and Caleb at Yale Ave. in downtown Seattle gave me just that. I never signed up for anything so fast. HIGHLY recommend.

Unfortunately, this is my second time having my wallet/credit cards stolen while locked in a locker. The wooden lockers are apparently quite easy to break into. I know this location has a history of this happening, and while I’ve alerted staff of this, there was no follow-up other than writing down the details that were later seemingly ignored. Was told I’d get an incident report for my records if I needed it, but never received that either. Hold onto your wallets. When I replaced my credit card with the local
BECU, they informed me that this happens frequently and they often get customers reporting their cards stolen from this specific location. I didn’t want to have to write a review like this, but hoping it may help facilitate a change.

Was in the area for business and signed up for their 3 day trial pass given they are a national brand and being able to use them around the country. First off, the equipment is very out dated and is in need of some refurbishing. You could also try to add a few extra pieces of equipment such as a hex bar, a safety bar, and maybe some benches up stairs to do some work with the dumbbells and kettlebell on the open floor. The two treadmills I tried to warm up on were making loud noises and definitely need maintenance.

Lastly, I woke up at 5am to go use the gym on my 3rd day of my free trial to find out that the front desk told me I can't come in because I don't have a Washington State ID. You guys not only have let me use the facility the past two days with no issue but you are a national brand so you're telling me you won't honor an actual membership?

Not worth your time here. Clearly management doesn't have confidence in their advertisement or decisions.

Meh.

Update 7/16/2025: To 24 Hour Fitness... I had written a few times and even talked to the manager of the Yale location at least three times. CLEANLINESS is the biggest issue in your facility, followed by music that is too loud and your hours... you are "24" Hour Fitness but only open 16 (on average) hours a day. I made t-shirts to wear at the gym specifically to ridicule the hours... wore them once a week for almost an entire year. Not one member of staff mentioned anything about it, but I was pulled aside for wearing gym clothes with an American flag... the associate who pulled me aside said it was inappropriate and divisive.

worst gym in seattle. bummer that there arent any other options for serious lifters (except iron gym which is great). other gyms in area (pro club, soon to be equinox, etc) are luxury priced and gimmicky. this gym has a huge space and footprint, lots of cardio offerings, great racks for olympic lifting, pool, sauna, steam room. it really is an awesome space with so much potential. but the bad. it is filthy. half the equipment is broken (lying hamstring curl out of commission for going on 4 months now), huge theft problem, constantly empty towel, hand soap, sanitizer, equipment spray, and other cleanliness containers. disorganized, staff make no attempt to reorder equipment that gets moved around. stair steppers, half of them have been broken for six months plus. assault bike broken. bottom line id say its passable if youre okay with a dirty gym and equipment that is old and breaks frequently and stays broken for a long time. what really lets it down is the staff. a sort of post pandemic apathetic disengagement where they all seem disinterested, unhelpful, blank stares when you ask for assistance, don't answer the phone when I called to update my membership info.if youre looking for a new gym would highly recommend not signing up here

The fact this dump is still up and running is what amazes me. I don’t know if the people at corporate are morons, or the staff just don’t care. The gym is consistently dirty, and I don’t mean just dirt, I mean trash is everywhere. The locker rooms are foul. Plus, you take a very very high chance of having your things stolen. In the lockers and on the floor. The equipment is never fixed, it’s almost like they want this location to close. If you want to pay for a membership with half of the working amenities, trash everywhere, and a staff that CLEARLY doesn’t care, then this is the gym for you! I wish I could put a warning sign on their front door. What a disaster of a once great franchise.

I’ve been a member for over a month, and this gym is consistently dirty. The locker rooms, equipment, and floors are in desperate need of cleaning. Paper towels for wiping down machines are rarely stocked, making hygiene a major concern.

On top of that, several machines—especially for leg workouts—have been broken for weeks with no signs of repair.

Parking is also a hassle. The garage is only free for a limited time each day, and after that, it’s $14 per hour. Street parking is scarce, adding to the inconvenience.

Overall, the poor maintenance and lack of cleanliness make this location a disappointment.

Jan. 2025 update to the below: men's showers continue to be appalling: broken or missing soap dispensers, and hot water that only comes on if you turn up the nozzles to firehose strength. At least they've cleaned the black mold (mostly).

The embodiment of "you get what you pay for": memberships can be really cheap...but that comes with equipment that stays broken for weeks at a time, broken urinals in the men's room, and staff that has been cut to the bone.

Oh, and per the owner's response below: fix the damned urinals already, and the sink that's also been broken in the men's room for at least three weeks. And the broken soap dispensers in the showers. And the wall in the downstairs warm-up room that's had a gigantic hole in it (where someone obviousy slammed into it) for the past five years.

List of equipment that has not been fixed in 3+ weeks and is STILL broken:
- The pool (meant to be fixed by 1/10)
- The only Assisted Pull up machine
- The only leg abduction machine
- One cable machine (out of 4)
- Prone Leg Curl machine
- Chest assisted T-bar row
- Pec Deck
- 7 treadmills
- The scale in the bathroom

I've told the employees at the front desk, and they said there was NOTHING that could be done about any of the broken equipment. Some of this equipment has been broken since October. If joining this gym, expect to not be able to complete a leg or back workout, and if you see a broken piece of equipment, expect it to permanently out of commission. Terrible terrible service.

Did a three day trial, and this place was so filthy and run down that I never want to go back. The mens lockers are half broken into with nonfunctioning doors, the showers filled with standing water and mildew smells, and the equipment is stained with long evaporated sweat and greasy grime. It would have been cleaner doing push ups on the sidewalk out front in the winter rain.

I'm a new member here. I enjoy going here but went to work out today around 11. I went to go inside and the door was locked. The site says there opened and no one was inside. A few other guys were looking to go in as well and we couldn't. I text one of the guys who works here and he says he doesn't know hes not working but will find out. I just genuinely wanted to make sure everything was ok but I feel as a member here someone at least should be working to let me in on my day off was looking forward to a work out here. Here to work out at 11:40AM Sunday.
Nothing posted.
No one to explain why shop is locked up.
Doors locked?
Lights on.
One employee and random guy walking around inside refusing to acknowledge 30 people at the door.
What an abysmal place.
Never cleaned. Filthy. Awful service.
Staff is aloof, if you can pull the one employee off staring at their phone even once.
Locker rooms filled with homeless washing clothes in the sinks. Toilets overflowing.
Floors filled with hair and dust and dirt.
Last time I’ll ever come back.
Hope your bankruptcy fails and every location closes soon. Save all your paying customers the grief.

Gym location - Great
Equipments - Great
Value For Money - Great (3 day pass USD20)
Staff Attitute - 13/11 - Great (5am) guy
14/11 - Great (5am) guy
15/11 - Terrible!! (5am) a RUDE lady. She was a rather big and short woman and was extremely unwelcoming, rude and treated me with an attitude, maybe because i am Asian as she talks to the other just fine. I greeted her properly and told her that i had the 3 day pass but she told me that the pass dont work at this timing. I had to explain to her that i paid for my pass and NOT the free trial pass. After that, she was still cold and unfriendly and asked for my indentification. Its a vast treatment from the two gentleman staff that handled me two days ago. I dont know what wrong with this woman. Rude!

Dirtiest gym I’ve ever set foot in. I wish I would’ve taken a tour before I signed up for a year. It’s filthy in there. I can speak especially to the men’s locker room and the air vents, ceiling, showers, sauna, and pool arena. I actually went to the dermatologist and found out I likely contracted a skin bacteria that gave me the nastiest, itchy rash ($600 later). Doctor said it was most likely from a hot tub or sauna, before I ever mentioned I had been going to that gym! My year is almost done, but I won’t be going back. Wish I could get a half refund or something. It sucks that it’s the closest gym with a sauna available to me, in Seattle proper. I will always tell people to stay away from that place. So gross. It’s like the #1 job of a gym is to keep it clean. They’re just taking ppl’s money. They’re not even open 24 hours as the name suggests. Ridiculous.

I have been a member of this gym for over seven years, and it's clear that 24 Hour Fitness does not invest in this location. Much of the equipment has remained unchanged since the grand opening and are not well maintained.

Given that this is a flagship location in Seattle, one would expect more investment in the facility.

Please do not reply with a boilerplate template. I expect a response from the regional manager.

Getting sicker of this place by the day. Replaced heavy bag with lighter beginner one which encourages earning bad habits and doesn't support the full range of techniques I want to do, and the Northgate 24 removed theirs entirely.

Update: I dropped a message on the 24 hr website contact us, and I have yet to receive a response from them after 2 weeks.

It's a cheap gym, and that's what you should expect from the service. Someone broke the lock on my locker and stole my wallet, and after the front desk person had me leave a note for Colin, the manager, no one ever reached out to me. Looking through the reviews, I can see the gym has an issue with theft and stolen property, but they are clearly not doing anything about it.

Here are just some of the problems I see, and I would say these problems are worse compared to LA fitness.

1. Oftentimes, the front desk is unwatched, and I could easily stroll through without anyone stopping me.
2. The locks on the free lockers routinely do not unlock after putting in the original passcode, and when someone from the front desk helps you unlock it, they don't care to check if it's actually your stuff in the locker. (Also, if I am standing in my swimsuit trying to get my stuff, maybe you could walk a little faster so I can shiver a little less?)
3. There are no extra lockers for valuables, which I've seen in other gyms.
4. There's a faucet that's completely broken in the bathroom for months, and there's no sign of when that will be fixed.
5. The bathroom is oftentimes just dirty.
6. There are some very squeaky treadmills, and the buttons can be difficult to operate, so it can take quite a few tries before I actually find a treadmill that works.
7. I have definitely interacted with front desk staff that just did not know the answers to questions about membership billing practices and signing up for personal training.

The backpack with my ID has been stolen from the locker, and I have to leave Seattle in two days. The manager outright said they have the footage from the time it was stolen, but they got more important things to handle than checking it.

Explaining that someone might have accidentally taken it and could be contacted for retrieval, that my flight is in two days and I literally have nowhere to stay if I don't get back my ID didn't help. I can't believe this, I went here for three months. All he needed to is see if any members walked out on camera with my backpack that i showed him on a picture

If pools wouldn't use chlorine, there wouldn't be a single place "clean" in this gym. I only go to the pool because the chlorine masks the awful smell on the free weight area. Also, not against the gym, but why people enter the sauna and steam room with their training clothes? sweatshirts, pants, sneakers, hoodies, sandals with socks? No wonder why everyone complains about the smells everywhere. It seems to be more of a cultural thing, there should be a policy on how to enter sauna and steam room, and educate people constantly that are not used to saunas and steam rooms. Another thing, why people having a full shampoo and soap shower on the rinsing shower by the pool? I understand *it *may *be *the *only *functional *shower *in *all *the *gym, but this is for rinsing chlorine from the pool or cooling off sauna heat, not for using your cleaning stuff in front of everyone. I'm glad pool water is cold, otherwise would be full of people just chilling like it was a resort pool. Thank you for keeping the water slightly cold for those that really want to swim and dont care about temp while keeping away lazy ones.

I went to this gym for 2 years and ended up not renewing my subscription. Be aware of the following before signing up for a membership:

Equipment constantly broken and unavailable for months - Multiple stairmasters, machines, and others equipment were broken for months on end. Some machines were "fixed" but still broken.

Wifi down for extended time - There were periods the wifi was out for months. But towards the end of my subscription, it seemed it was up and running again.

Staff interactions - Some of the staff are really helpful, approachable, and nice to talk to. Certain staff are rude, will not be helpful, or will be "clicky" with certain customers. Overall you will know who can help you and who not to go to.

Men's room not sanitary - Bathroom toilets were mostly broken, unclean, or smelled of urine. Sink area and dryers are rarely cleaned. Would not recommend walking barefoot.

Overcrowded during prime time hours - Recommend going on off-hours (early mornings and afternoons). During peak hours it is a mad house and finding a place to workout is difficult. Definitely plan your workouts accordingly once you get the vibe.

Not a 24 hour gym - Note this is one (or only?) 24 hour Fitness that is not 24 hours.

The great thing about 24 hr fitness is the consistency of their facilities. The one in downtown Seattle continues this level of expected consistency with clean and well rounded facilities that I would consider the best in the city for the price point. But what separates this from the others I have visited is their employees. I had the well fortune of being signed up by Barry who went above and beyond to not only get me signed up quickly and politely but also gave me a great breakdown of facility with tips and tricks. Solid gym, good selection of equipment as well as several good multi-use racks and numerous dumbbells. There is a broad variety of machines to hit lots of different muscle groups. This is a good gym if you are into bodybuilding, and is okay for power lifters as well.

However, the bathrooms in the men’s locker rooms are disgusting. I don’t even know if they clean them. The scale is broken as well. The bench presses suck- I’ve never been on a narrower bench in my life, and there are only two bar heights (woe to those with average length arms). Lastly, many of the machines are pretty old and have not been kept up with maintenance- they’re creaky and slowed by friction.

The gym is not too busy. Even weekdays at 5 you can at least work in on most stuff. However, there’s only three cable machines, so good luck getting one, even when it’s not peak hours. Plenty of solid cardio equipment though.

That being said.. I’ve been to I’d say 30/40 locations and this ranks top 5 for sure. The two guys up front were great and courteous, helped me unlock my locker because I was stupid. Lol.

The layout is honestly super cool. Bottom floor strength training and pool. Top floor mostly cardio, middle has the racks and turf. Loved it. Plenty of equipment, even around high foot traffic times you can easily get a solid workout in. Nothing negative to say about this establishment being downtown Seattle it’s very upkept. Hire my boy to work here so I come more often!

Only complaint is my cell service was trash, but what can ya do. 😁

Update for May 2024: They put up a sign, "exciting news! Garage now open till 10pm". But I showed up at 7:05pm and the garage was closed. Should have known. Thanks for being consistent... Always bad.

Update #2 for January 2024: Back up to 2 stars since the Cybex leg press machines and Smith machine were repaired.

Update January 2024: All 4 free motion machines broken. Both leg press Cybex machines broken. Smith machine broken for a year now. There is a bathroom stall missing the door. Not really any hot water. This place does not care anymore.

Update October 2023: Added a star (now back at 3) since they did did some sort of sauna upgrade. I don't use that, but at least they are doing something positive!

Update September 2023: This place perpetually gets worse. They have now removed nearly all the paper towel dispensers. You have to walk all over the place looking for one to clean the equipment.

Original Review: Lowest membership price I've seen for a fully equipped gym with a pool, and staff are polite. However, you get what you pay for. Most things are in a state of disrepair and the locker room is always a filthy disaster zone. Parking garage consistently opens later than advertised, and parking validation machine often fails to work properly.

Mack is very welcoming and he walks the floor regularly and always says hello or gives me pointers and making progress in my training. He is truly a staple for the 24 hour fitness on Yale Avenue as I said without him this review would never have been happening and I appreciate 24 hour fitness for hiring individual such as Mac and I hope they continue to keep up the good work.
