I took the fall 2025 Women on Weights series and it was a fantastic introduction to working with free weights and building skills and experience in a weight room environment with other supportive and cool women! Alex systematically and carefully worked through a top-notch curriculum where we were able to safely practice working with different weights and ask questions and get feedback. By the end of the course, we all walked away with the tools and skills to start working more with weights. Alex is a supportive, non-judgmental, and tremendously skilled trainer. I highly recommended working with her if you have the opportunity!

I took Alex’s Women on Weights class and would highly, highly recommend it to any woman looking to learn or increase knowledge about weightlifting in a safe place with a great trainer. The classes were structured but fun and Alex’s instruction was thorough but not overwhelming. Small class sizes allowed for personal assistance and a supportive environment. Alex is enthusiastic and warm, she provides helpful feedback, and always has fun playlists. If weightlifting is overwhelming to start like it was for me, this is the perfect group class to gain skill and confidence.

I just finished the 4 week foundation course and at 74 I was the oldest woman there. Alex is a very knowledgeable and enthusiastic instructor. I left every class feeling like I had used my body in a safe but challenging way. The group was fun and supportive , and everyone got plenty of individual attention. I highly recommend it to learn how to lift correctly and take care of your bones.

Alex is incredible. I have been working with her for a few months now, and she is everything I'd hoped for in a trainer. With a focus on building a sustainable foundation, she ensures you are able to continue growing and improving. She is patient, she listens, she's responsive, and she's willing to pivot based on your needs. My flexibility, strength, endurance, and overall health have all improved dramatically in just a short time, and Alex has become an integral part in my overall health journey.

I’ve been seeing Alex as a trainer for almost a year and a half and I cannot recommend her enough. When I started seeing her I felt clunky, clumsy, and out of shape. Through 1:1 training she built up my confidence, educated me on how to exercise safely, and got me to actually go weight lifting at the gym on my own because I WANT TO! I’ve never been athletic but now I consider myself very very active. Alex knows her stuff and can work with anyone at any level. I have also been in several of her classes (women on weights etc) and it’s worth every penny. What I also like about Alex is that she doesn’t put the focus on the training on making my body look different. She focuses on making sure I feel good, have proper form, and get stronger every week (but I have happened to slim down in the process!). Even in her classes, she makes sure to give everyone individualized attention. Get on her calendar!!!

Alex is probably the best personal trainer I’ve ever worked with. She answered all my ‘why?’ questions without skipping a beat. She’s also great with modifying your workout if pain or and old injury shows up. I highly recommend Alex!

Highly recommend Alex as a trainer. I've had such a fantastic experience in her Women on Weights class this month. Eight consistent sessions over 4 weeks, slowly introducing you to various weight workouts, workout basics, proper form, and gym equipment. Alex is super nice, bubbly, doesn't judge you, and is very encouraging without being patronizing. The class was full of women with varying levels of experience with weights, and she managed to still work with everyone individually. I have a shoulder injury, and she was able to provide modifications to many exercises to ensure I was safe but still working out the right areas. She also made a point of making sure everyone in class set goals each wednesday, which were not necessarily directly related to working out but overall well-being, and then followed up each monday to see if we acheived our goals over the weekend as an accountability measure. Cannot recommend her class enough, especially if you want to just dip your toe in the water when it comes to weight training. Additionally, the price for 8 1-hour sessions is less than I would pay for 4 40-minute physical therapy appointments, so for me it was definitely worth it. As someone who has had a lot of trouble finding a workout that i actually enjoy and can physically do with my injury, I actually really loved these classes and even looked forward to them.

The Foundations Class is a great refresher for safe and effective training with weights. Alex is knowledgable, supportive, enthusiastic, and helpful, and the small class size allows for personal attention as well as support from other women getting back to working with weights or trying them for the first time. Recommend without hesitation!

I cannot speak more highly of Alex Avanto and her Women on Weights classes. Alex is a consummate professional who knows her stuff! She is extremely informed, accessible, responsive and attentive to her students. She works you hard and keeps it fun in the process. I got everything I wanted out of the experience, which was to demystify weightlifting, build my confidence, learn proper technique, become stronger, and make friends in the process. I'm so sad my class has ended, but we all bonded so well, we're going to try to continue working out together moving forward! If you sign up for Alex's class, you will walk away feeling like your time and money was very well spent!

What truly sets Alex apart is her ability to inspire and motivate. Her encouragement and positive attitude is contagious!

Alex's knowledge in health and fitness is extensive and evident. She is also continually updating her skills and knowledge, which brings fresh and innovative techniques!

Another aspect that I appreciate is her holistic approach to fitness. Alex emphasizes the importance of mental well-being alongside physical health. She incorporates mindfulness and stress-reduction techniques, creating a well-rounded fitness experience.

If you're looking for a personal trainer who can truly inspire and guide you on a transformative health and fitness journey, Alex is the one to go with. Her expertise, dedication, and motivational skills are unmatched. Thank you, Alex, for being such an incredible coach and inspiration!

Alex is an incredible trainer! I would 1000% recommend her to anyone! Alex has an amazing breadth of knowledge that she tactfully delivers in her sessions. She's thoughtful in her assessments and clearly works hard to understand her clients' histories. The intelligent manner with which she approaches each interaction and how she crafts her sessions is unparalleled. At the very least, just get an assessment with her!

Alex is amazing! I did an introductory session with her and she did a full movement analysis and had some very insightful things to offer. I am a longtime runner and have had some knee issues and she had some great suggestions for me to try. She is approachable and friendly too which is awesome.

I have been working with Alex through her Women on Weights ( WOW) program for about 6 months now and I can say with 100% confidence that I never want to stop! These small group classes have been a perfect format for me as I work to regain strength and mobility after suffering a knee injury and undergoing surgery last year. Who knew I’d be doing squats, deadlifts and bench presses at this stage in my life? The best part, this class is never about how your body looks, only about how it functions. I’ve gained so much strength and confidence in my ability, now when Alex says “could you lift heavier?”, I say yes, because she’s always right, I can always lift heavier!

Alex I'd a fantastic coach! I've worked with her for both strength training and climbing specific training.

I signed up with her because I wanted to advance my technical and mental skills to be a more efficient climber. My biggest opportunity area was managing my mental game when climbing moves increased in risk level. I often wouldn't "go for it" out of fear if I thought I wouldn't make it, especially if I would fall.

Alex coached me through these moments while I challenged myself to get comfortable bouldering, falling, and going for more difficult climbs. After working with her for 3 months, I see huge progress in both my technical and mental abilities!! Highly recommend working with her!

Alex is a phenomenal trainer! I’m working with her in her women on weights classes and have already learned so much in a short period of time. She is positive, always enthusiastic, and makes the experience fun! I also really appreciated that in introducing herself, she talked about “body neutrality.” I’ve gotten to a point in my life where I am actively avoiding diet culture and the negativity that comes with that. Her focus is to help you get stronger and achieve your goals, not to look a certain way. The environment shes cultivated gives space for women to learn how to lift without judgement or pressure. Simply put, Alex is the best!

Alex is awesome! Per my goals, I worked with Alex on a rigorous, tailored training program for ~4 months. In my time with her, I not only got stronger and leaner - she helped me fix old injuries (caused by underdevelopment, technique, etc) that I'd been dealing with for years. On top of all of that, she's an incredibly nice, smart, authentic person. I highly recommend you try training with Alex.

Alex as a personal trainer was superb. Very approachable and not a dull moment if you train with her. She is very passionate about what she does and also gives you a boost mentally. She gives me a lot of confidence using weights, gives safety precautions on how to use equipment, and gives an explanation on how & why we target certain muscles. Alex is very knowledgeable. Overall, I highly recommend her as a personal trainer.

I’ve been lifting weights for years without any real training or coaching- within a session with Alex, I had changed form on multiple things which actually enabled me to do more with less pain. I feel like I gained valuable understanding and knowledge that I can apply to most activities in life. The best part? The mindset is not on weight loss or changing your physical appearance. Rather, it is on learning how to set goals, identify/overcome barriers, and celebrate accomplishments that actually improve your relationship with your body in so many more ways than just looks. The mental aspect of activity is just as important as the physical and Alex creates a safe and welcoming space to improve both. Highly recommend.
